I am sad to say that this place we will never return to. The service was amazing and that, that is the ONLY reason they are receiving 3 stars. Start out with drinks. Great Beers and wines many choices, home brewed. Appetizers the Fried pickles were actually delicious. Asiago Artichoke dip was just ok, not a lot of flavor, but a nice portion. Then that is where it stops being good! We had seven people with 4 different dishes. Pork loin with risotto was nice portions, but it had no real flavor. Ribeye steak with blue cheese mashed potatoes and bacon green beans. The steak was not seasoned and they dumped a sauce over the top. The green beans were inconsistent some where country some were cooked perfect. The mashed potatoes were very good! Flat steak with red wine Demi glaze, garlic kale and cauliflower, potato gratin um it was a very small portion, NO flavor, the cheese was hard like it had been sitting for awhile and it was large slices of potato for such a small dish it came in. The kale was surprisingly good. My steak... Oh it gets NO stars. Very tough almost like beef jerky. I asked for Medium and Recieved medium rare. This brewery and restaurant has been a staple in the Omaha old market for years. I love the ambiance and family friendly events they have. First off the beer is great and being Omaha's first micro brewery that I visited 10 years ago they hold a special place in my heart. But as a friend said recently "you visit a brewery to try the beer but come back for the food". I would agree in this case. Their beer is good but not the best in town. But the food has always been spot on and when you can have a beer, dinner, then play pool afterward you've got a winning combination. Just okay. The beer I ordered - upstream's American wheat - was okay but nothing great. I ordered the Caesar salad to start, was good but completely coated in dressing and cheese so I couldn't finish it. Raspberry glazed chicken was okay but not very warm by the time I got it. The vegetables on the side were not cooked at all, only good part of the meal was the plain rice served with it. The waitress then took far too long with our checks on a not so busy evening. I like to come here for dinner when family is in town. They have a easy, simple menu with something for everyone. From scrumptious Mac and cheese to delicious schnitzel! Since moving to Nebraska in August, this has become our go to place if we are in the downtown area. The food quality is always pretty solid. Pretzel bites with the beer cheese sauce are absolutely ridiculous. I could eat five orders by myself.I've tried a couple of the chefs specials and never been disappointed. They offer multiple types of beer, but they all have a really unique Upstream flavor. The service was stellar! Champagne was our waitress and she was lovely! It was very busy, we were walk ins . They gave us a 1 hr 45 min time which was only an hour. I have had good and bad times here. Lunch has always been great. Service has usually been alright. The beer is always good. Although, there was one time I was extremely disappointed. Visit this place even if you are in Omaha only for one day. They brew an impressive selection of excellent beers, the service is friendly and the thin crust pizza is very tasty. My favorite beer, the firehoue RED! it is really red. The brick walls reminded me of Brooklyn and the smart beer logos kept me busy for a while. I recommend the happy hour, specially Wednesdays for the half off pizza deal. My very favorite pizza? Got to be the Italiano! Yum...... I only have one complaint and want to ask the dessert chef to work on the "Cream Brulee" a bit more becasue it is not up to par yet. The caramelized sugar top was too thin and soft; it needed more fire. The creme brulee was not creamy at all... I even could feel the grains of suger crunching under my teeth so mudslide was the correct name for it. The "too" soft gingersnap cookies tasted good but they were crumpling at touch and fall apart. My recommandation: either eliminate the creme brulee from the menu or do more tests to get it right! You offer great beer but Omaha deserves good desserts too. read more

We were visiting family and took a side trip downtown. We ask a local where to eat and they suggested this place. We got calamari and fried pickles for appetizer. Main dishes we ate Fish and Chips, Reuben, soup of the day(potato and bacon), pub salad, kids pizza. The Scotch Ale was great! The best part of the meal was the Bread pudding for dessert!!! We've been to up street brewing twice. The beer selection is great and the food is pretty good too. The first time I went I had the jam chicken sandwich. The chicken was grilled and moist inside. Overall it was pretty good. The second time I went I got the jumbiliya. This was a fantastic dish. The taste was there, the serving size was nice, and the food was delectable. Overall this would have made it onto our best of Omaha list. read more

I have been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years. Tonight was the first time I was treated as a nuisance rather than their reason for being. We asked to be seated and the hostess asked how many. I replied"2". She must not have heard me because she sternly replied how many and a look of incredulity was on her face. After she seated us, she threw menus at us and literally slid silverware at us as she ran past. Her countenance told the story. She was not happy to serve us and for this reason we made our feelings known to the manager and left. We do not eat their regularly but we have been customers dozebs of times over the past 10 years. We always sit at the bar. Why? Because we want the interaction with the bartender. At this bar? Worse than little attention. Try none. Ordered a flight to give all the beers their equal shot. By the 3rd taster we noticed beer all over the bar because one of the glasses was cracked. Asked for another beer. Got another beer. But no apology for serving a broken glass. And no further check on how we are enjoying our beers. The guy next to us is still waiting for anyone to greet him and take an order. If you sell beer. Talk about your beers. Talk to you guests about the beer. At the very least provide some damn service. Beer is expensive. At this standard, I'd just as soon stay home and drink beer from my fridge. Fail Upstream. I bookmarked this place On yelp before our trip, so when my sil recommended it we were excited to try it. Server was ok considering we were a decent sized group (5 adults/4 small children) it wasn't very busy in the restaurant. The kids all had their delicious creamy mac n cheese. The option for veggies was a great addition. My husband has the fish and chips (As I'm allergic I didn't try it) he seemed to line it though. I got the Ruben which was delicious. The meat was salty and the sauce added a creamy sweetness. The bread toasted perfectly. I had it with the cucumber salad which was perfect. Not too sour! Although at the end of the meal I think our server forgot about us. We had ordered root beer for dessert, it never came. Even after my sil/bil ordered a growler of root beer to take home. Great food, the smoked gouda/ale soup is heaven. The side cesar salad was overdressed but the alfredo and cheese flatbreads were amazing. Higher stars would have been on tap, but our server Jamie was incredibly rude and unfriendly and did not enjoy her job. We requested tonics with lemons, and were given limes. A minor oversight I would look over normally, but she was rude both times we asked for lemons and seemed like she was pushing our little reunion out the door. I've been here to eat a few times. The pool tables upstairs are cool and fun to hang around on, and the bartender always knows what they're doing in terms of making drinks. The food is just so so. But the real reason for my not so Stellar review is the way that I've seen the management treat their employees. I've overheard management being very rude to the serving staff more than once. They always say that people don't leave jobs they leave management, and I think that would be true here. It would be different if it was an isolated incident, but I can honestly say I've never been there and seen management treat the staff well. While I know this doesn't mean anything in terms of the wait staff service or the food, it makes me very uncomfortable and it makes me not want to return to the restaurant and give them my business. read more

We had a family outing here this last weekend for dinner. Service was good but two of us ordered the fish and chips, it was absolutely awful!! The fish is about 70% thick batter and only 30% fish. The batter was way too salty and just was an unpleasant meal. Two of us ordered this and it was the same for both plates, avoid it!! So he we go.... 1. Light beer. Not my bag. I also don't like light. 2. American Wheat. No not a fan. 3. Capitol Ale. No again 4. Firehouse Red. Very good nice classy finish for a red. 5. Flagship IPA. Rock on! Delicious. 6. Dundee Scotch Ale. Very delicious, malty flavor with a perfect finish. 7. Cask Conditioned Ale. Interesting.. full flavor bold, I liked it. Will order this again no doubt. Now onto the Seasonals. 8. Unincorportated. Crisp fruity. Ok not really for me but ok. 9. Flight Milk. I liked it. Medium body and a fruit finish. 10. Coco Poco. Awesome! Dark beer hints of coconut. Love it! 11. Ebenezer. No no no, cinnamon in my beer please, but if you like cinnamon try it! 12. Thug Passion. TART! WOW! Before coming to Omaha, I asked a friend to put together a list of breweries to try. He told me to skip Upstream because their beer was nothing special. Turns out their food isn't anything special either. The menu was pretty typical in terms of fare. Nothing jumped off the page but the prices seemed a bit high for what I was reading. I decided against a steak and went with a pizza which was greasy. Even the service was underwhelming. If you're in Omaha and see this place, keep walking. There are better options. read more
