I recently brought my Lexus to Uptown Automotive because it had a serious shock problem, they were great! They let me know that the airbag over the shock on one side was blown, upon completing the installation of new airbags, the sensors also needed troubleshooting, they figured it out promptly and I have my car back, running great! 1.) This company has a seriously sweet gal that runs the front, she communicates great and is very nice to deal with. She sets the stage for the great service that is to come. 2.) They know what they are doing and Dave the mechanic is very communicative also, explaining what work has been done clearly. 3.) They are fair with their pricing. Update: I had to make an appointment b/c my truck engine light was on, & it had no power. And the only available time was next week. Ken who I spoke too, I felt that he did not want to deal with me. Where to begin. I called Uptown with an unusual issue. We were on Oahu, and our truck was in Maui, and wouldn't start. Uptown had it towed out of the airport, paid the fees, and then took the truck and fixed it and stored it!!! This from a man i never met face to face. Dave, Ken & Travis are just good, upstanding mechanics (which is not always the case among mechanic shops!) I was a single mom, "damsel in distress" a few weeks ago. Stopped for a cup of coffee in Wailuku & suddenly my beloved Jeep wouldn't start. Despite two good Samaritans who tried to jump start & fiddle with the starter, my jeep wouldn't go. Had it towed to Uptown which was the closest garage to my location - Thank Goodness! Dave worked on my jeep right away & with Travis' help, identified that the ignition initiator in the ignition cylinder had cracked in half. He took the time to locate a ignition cylinder kit on-island instead of doing the easier but much more costly whole steering column. He had me back on the road in time to pick up my child from school. Despite living Kihei, I will make the time to have my jeep serviced at Uptown. Brought my car in for an exhaust repair. When Ken called me to pick it up, he said it wasn't running well and implied that it must have always been running badly (he hadn't test driven it before the repair). So he did an additional $1000 worth of work replacing various parts (MAF sensor, Idle Air Control, etc., etc.) that didn't fix it and gave it back to me running so badly it stalled at every stop sign and red light. He basically gave up trying to repair it. I Googled the symptoms, diagnosed the actual problem, and sent it back to them for one last specific $250 repair which made it run properly. I shouldn't have to diagnose my car for my mechanic, that's his job. Update 2/8/2016: After less than a year, the exhaust is leaking again. I took the car to a different mechanic who says that they reused the old gasket when they replaced the exhaust header. I paid around $2000 for the exhaust repair, and they couldn't put in a new $70 gasket? I'm going to look for the bill and see if they charged me for a gasket. I trusted these guys! I will never bring a vehicle to them again! read more

I recently moved to the island and purchased a Maui cruiser that needed a lot of fixing up. Dave was so helpful and knowledgeable about repairing my car. Took my car in to these guys to get some electrical work done. The people there were helpful and got the work done in a day. The only problem I had was when I picked my car up from them the inside of the car smelled like cigarettes. I don't smoke so the smell was off-putting, I had my windows down the whole way home to air the car out and even bought an air freshener. read more

We own a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac which has been a great truck but is now showing signs of wear-n-tear. We have always taken the Sport Trac to our local Ford dealer when it came to annual servicing and minor repairs. We have never left the dealer with a bill that was less than $150, so, when we started to notice that the air conditioner was not blowing out cold air, I decided to ask a friend if he had any recommendations, knowing that I did not want to take it to the Ford dealer because of their "pricing structure"! This friend recommended Uptown Automotive. We decided to have Uptown do a check on the air conditioner with an estimate of what it would cost to have it repaired. They did find a leak and gave us what sounded to be a very honest assessment of what was needed and how much it would cost. We felt that the price was very fair and very affordable so we decided to have Uptown Automotive complete the job. Since then, August 1, 2013, the air conditioner has been great. I live on Lanai and was looking for a mobil mechanic to work on my Land Cruiser, so I called, and the person that took my call was Lena. She was very busy at the time I called, so she had put me on hold, and for some reason I got cut off, and before I could call back she was already calling me back. She was very professional and very efficient! Lena got a couple of Mobil mechanics for me that she recommended. I was just so blown away with the way she took the time to help me. This is a great example of going above and beyond for a customer. Remember.....a customer doesn't necessarily mean someone that has to do business with you, but anyone that calls and inquire about your business is considered a customer.
