I went to this store for a last minute change of clothes and was assisted by JAMES M. He was so personable and down to earth. A real gem. He went out of his way to assist me and help me pull together a outfit last minute. The whole time he was helping me, he was constantly straightening racks of clothes. He was picking up clothes that had fell on the floor, while still interacting with all the customers that were shopping. Honestly it seemed like he was the only employee working. Thank you James for your excellent customer service and for your hard work and dedication to your store. James should be recognized, because he alone is such a gem to this company. Awful customer service. Everyone who worked there was so extremely rude. I tried asking if they had a size larger for one of the items on display and she refused to help me. She said without even acknowledging me that whatever I saw was all that they had. When another person approached an associate, they were so willing to help her. Is it because I'm brown? They all had the attitude as if they were on a reality show and there were hidden cameras. They didn't want to be bothered and just talked to themselves while I needed help. First and worst experience ever. I definitely would not recommend bringing your business here. The clothes may be cute, but the employees aren't. Brought my daughter here because we heard there was a great selection from a girl at my salon. She was right! We found so many cute things for her including, an adorable jacket for me. Been here twice and love this store. Awesome deals on high end brands like Vuori and Lululemon. I've found stuff for both men and women and the condition is like new. This isn't your Goodwill where you'll find items for a few dollars. I purchased a Madewell jacket which retails $149 for $44 here, and some Vuori and Lululemon items for 1/3 or less of the cost in great condition. I had just purchased some Commission Lululemon pants at the flagship store for $129 then saw a pair here for $40, gently worn! Will keep coming back for sure. read more

This is the place to go if you want to sell or buy. James and the rest of the staff were very helpful and friendly my entire visit. I find as a young looking person I tend to be overlooked when shopping, this was not the case for the staff at Uptown Cheapskate and I thank you :] They can be a bit selective about which clothes they choose to buy but if you browse through their selections to purchase you'll see why. They are plenty of dresses and shorts dressier tops and lots of great quality gym wear. In the back there is a section for men as well. I am visiting Carlsbad from Brooklyn NY where I always go to second hand stores. I am so happy that while I am in California I found this treasure of a store!! I love their ample supply of exercise/yoga clothing - I've scored two pair of vuori pants, a sweatshirt and a bra that would have been soooo expensive at vuori or REI. The prices are very reasonable to the quality and brands they carry - I've had so much fun. The store even posts new items that come in every day on instagram at 5:30. First time customer, also brand new to the area my friend recommended Uptown to me. First impression loved the inside of the store, as I was walking up I received glares from the employees more importantly an older lady who appeared to be the manager. I'm very shy and quiet at times and I was hoping for a friendly interaction but the first thing out of her mouth was "We don't take anything with trash bags here's a bin you can put your stuff in, if it's wrinkled we won't take it and have your items laying flat in the bin" The other employee that took over was a lot nicer to me considering it was my first time. They only took 1 item for $4 and I had a very large bag of clothes some were apparently "out of season" but still nice things. Never coming back, and only reason l'm giving 2 stars is because the other younger employee with curly hair was actually way more professional about this whole process. read more

I've been here several times, always found great items at fantastic prices and never have I had a negative experience until yesterday. I walked in at 5:28 to sell a small bag of items (3 shirts and a pair of Toms I wore once). When I walked in, the three girls behind the counter couldn't be bothered to stop their chat to say hello, despite making eye contact with me. Legit not even a smile... Okay, that's fine, maybe being personable is something I carried with me after working customer service jobs for a huge chunk of my formative years, it's not for everyone. So, I set my items on the counter, and even still, no greeting, just the girl who appeared to be in charge looking at her watch and saying, "we stop taking sales at 5:30" Mkay, I walked in before then but cool. I literally walked out and donated everything to Goodwill. Making the sale wasn't important. Maybe getting there with two minutes to spare was my bad but I cannot shake poor customer service. It's not hard to say hello to someone when they walk into your establishment, especially to spend money. To each their own. I won't be back. read more

I discovered a hole in a shirt I was going to try on. I brought it to the attention of the manager so that someone else wouldn't unknowingly buy a damaged item. The manager didn't care to see where the hole was because it was (her words) "already 70% off and someone will still pay $2 for it." I started to walk away, but really didn't feel good about the lack of concern for the person who would buy something not knowing that it had a hole. So I turned back and said, "I wouldn't like it if someone sold me a damaged shirt, even if it was only for $2." The manager's retort was that these are "thrift store prices." Her attitude was very much that the quality of the item didn't matter, because it was on clearance. There was no general indication to customers that the clearance items might be damaged, and no reason to suspect that the person who does buy the shirt would be made aware that it is damaged. It may only be $2, but the lack of ethics displayed by the manager was disappointing, and I highly suspect not aligned with the expectations of the company, which describes itself as franchise in which "you'll find thousands of different brands, all hand-selected for quality, style, and condition." TL;DR: I told the manager a shirt had a hole in it, she put it back on the shelf to sell anyway. read more

I have took clothes here before and wasn't thrilled but it is close to my home and they seemed nice enough. This time I went in with my daughter. We were spending the day together and I figured we would just look around and see if they have anything cute. I walked in with my things in a box and the sales people were standing behind the counter. They kind of look down at you like you are selling your stuff for a fix. Then one of the ladies gives you a warning that she is only taking stuff that you find in the mall if you were to go today. REALLY, anyway I had a few purses which one was a Patricia Nash that I literally bought in December on sale. I never used it and would have returned it but I forgot I bought it. It had the storage bag and is very nice. It was just a little big for what I wanted it for. They just literally threw it back in my box. They bought 4 items and I have no idea what they were. As they were going through my box my daughter who is 22 and I went browsing around and seriously it looks to me like if they are buying all the good clothes they keep for themself and put the crap out. The shorts were definitely not shorts you would have found this year or last year nor were the sundresses. I donated my things and feel way better then to give it to that place whose employees think they are so much better then everyone else. Don't waste your time. If you want old stuff go to vintage place. This place is a goodwill with Macy's pricing. read more

I went in with my friend (both teenagers) with two full baskets and two full bags of clothing, accessories, and shoes. The three blonde women working - who were not helping any other customers at the time - glanced at us, did not greet us, and went back to gossiping amongst themselves. They were extremely stuck up and made our whole experience uncomfortable from the beginning. They only took five of our items out of the large sum of in-season and in-style garments that included name-brands American Rag, Free People, and Brandy Melville. My mom went a couple months ago and had a very different experience. They were nicer and offered her much better of a deal for the clothes she brought in. After I left the store, I felt like they had judged me because I was younger and clearly had better taste in clothing. This was by far the worst resale experience I've had. Working in retail has taught me a lot about customer service - and this is exactly what we're advised not to do. The trend in these low star reviews is very clear: the condescending employees make it clear that they don't want or need our business, and I will not be giving mine to them again. read more

I seriously love this place. The selection of clothes here is AWESOME. You can tell that they only accept clothes here (if you're a seller!) that are in style, up to date, and in good condition. The prices are unreal too! In a good way. A lot of consignment shops are gross (weird smells, messy, etc) but here it is organized to perfection, even by size and color. Marie Kondo status! James and Maddy were super sweet!; and beyond helpful and knowledgeable of the items in store and there locations. I got to sell some items and use that towards my purchase! Love this place! Its very organized but very crowded when I went. At first they were keeping track of how many people were in the store but after a while they stopped and im not sure why. Other than that, it's a great store and I'm sure they'd take in a lot of your stuff as they had a great variety in stock. Terrible customer service! My friends and I came in and immediately felt judged, no one greeted us and we kept getting stared down by the employees. Who I believe was the owner was being extremely loud and obnoxious while she was on the phone and when who I think was her daughter told her she was being a bit too loud she began to yell "I don't care!" and then left to the back. And to top it all off when I got rung up the employee tossed my card back at me.
