They had a lot of great clothes, at reasonable prices, and while the customer service was very attentive and friendly - I do not care for their policies... I went to Try on a few more clothes at 7pm and was told that the dressing rooms just closed, an hour before the store closes at 8pm, so that they can let some of the younger staff go home. I probably would've bought more if I could have tried on some more things, and I didn't like being turned away. I've never heard of anyone else who wouldn't let you try on clothes in the last hour that they were open. They did say I could buy them and bring them back if they didn't fit. So I still bought the other nice things I had found and tried on two minutes earlier. Though they said those were final sales and not returnable for some reason. Then I discovered that they do not give you bags to put your purchases in - they say they are "gree and you can bring your own bag, and you also get a 5% discount if you bring your own bag To reuse - but of course I didn't get the 5% discount, or a bag, as this was my first visit. I could not help but feel annoyed leaving with my arms full of loose clothes and not having been able to Try on the last few that I found. I don't know if I will be back because of these policies - otherwise everything was great! read more

Some of my favorite pieces have come from Uptown. If you like treasure hunts and have some time on your hands I always recommend this spot. I've sold to them a few times too and I feel like I was given a fair price for what I sold. I know some other reviews have said they weren't given enough but, y'all, it's a consignment shop. If you don't want your 2009 abercombie and fitch sweater with a hole in the armpit chances are they don't either. I find a lot of Target, Zara, Shein, Madewell, H&M, Express and Fabletics here all in almost mint condition if not with tags. Staff is friendly, a few people are a little cold but I don't let that stop me from being a frequent shopper. read more

Taking my son to see Spurs game. Our first one. He's coming from San Diego. Needed a Spurs shirt or hat and don't don't want to spend $40 for a tee-shirt! Stopped in here and asked Robert if he could help me find one since I had a hard time moving clothes back and forth with my disabilities. He was happy to show me to the sports section and then looked through all of them for me!! No luck but he didn't give up and we went to another section I never would have tried on my own because it's way too high for me. Success!!! He found the perfect tee in my son's size!!! Then, I asked about sports caps and he found the perfect hat for him! It's a vintage 2014 Championship hat!!! He was amazed at how cool the hat was. Pricing was phenomenal and he really made my day. Y'all, don't bring bags of clothes that you have had for years. Those won't be in style anymore. Bring brands. Barely worn. No more than one or two years of age. Or else you will just be disappointed. This is the same in any clothing consignment store. Seriously. You would be wasting everyone's time, then getting upset you didn't walk out with $500 in your pocket. Then bad reviews will give the store fewer stars than they deserve. This use to be the place to go but now I absolutely loathe this store. Every one. The staff are rude every time no matter where you go. The "fill out your life's information" kiosk to not only wait way too long but to also get turned down because there is a tiny mark the size of an ant on a pair of pants is r-worded. Fortunately stumbled upon this gem of a consignment boutique. Glad I did. Came in to window shop expecting funky gear from the 80's, was proven wrong and came out with 3 bags of clothing without overspending?!? Super low prices, I saw skirts for $1.99 and a cute dress I bought for $6.99! Clean store, helpful ladies at the cashier, and well organized into different categories. To top it off these items are not raggedy and old, or worn out. Items are in almost new condition as you can barely tell it was previously owned. I have sold a couple of things at an Uptown Cheapskate Location and the sell back value does need to be improved. However, this location has a good deal on clothes and I love that they have clearance sections with an additional discount. I've gotten a couple of quality items from there for a great price. As a Male, I know that most resale shops have much smaller Male sections. This was no different. Relegated to a corner, the men's section was small but organized well. I noticed that when most people entered, they were greeted with a hello by the staff, whereas I was not. Unless you had clothes you were trying to sell, or checking out, the staff didn't try to engage you at all. The prices were reasonable for the quality of labels. Drove past this new-looking place in Huebner Oaks and googled it when I got home. Essentially, it's like Buffalo Exchange or Plato's Closet- a resale shop focusing on teen and young adult clothing, particularly if it is currently in style. Sounds pretty cool. I am moving soon and have a bunch of nice purses I thought would be appropriate there, so off I went today. Took them in, was quickly helped by a well-dressed male employee. Filled out a form and dropped off my stuff. Was warned they may take up to 45 minutes, but I was welcome to either look around or they could call my cell when they were done. First I looked around- I found a gorgeous turquoise statement necklace very well-priced and went up to buy it. That's when things first started to go wrong- I was told that they aren't actually selling anything yet, and they wouldn't be for another few weeks. No exceptions. So, I guess they're just open to buy stuff? Odd, but okay, whatever. At least they're going through my stuff, right? Unable to buy anything, I let them know I'm leaving and am reassured that they'll call me with an offer when done. About 45 minutes later, I get a call and head back over- I should have known something was up by the way I was cryptically told, "We'll talk more when you get here," rather than being told any information about my stuff. I arrive, and am promptly informed that they can't take any of my purses, because they simply don't have room, because they're not selling anything yet. However, if they were "name brand" purses, they could accept them. I guess they didn't look too hard, because two of the purses i dropped of were Vera Wang... So, long story short, this place totally wasted my time. I took in 10 high quality purses, 2 of name brands, in clear tote boxes. They weren't able to accept "any purses" at the time, but took my boxes and took up my time anyway. Their excuse for not taking any of my purses was that they weren't name brand (but two were!) and that they didn't have room (because they're not selling any of their stock right now- which makes NO sense at all!). This place doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The employees were friendly enough, but their policies and business model simply don't make sense- they're only open to accept incoming stock, but they don't have any room for certain items, but they'll still look at it and waste your time. Sounds legit-- NOT. This place may work a lot better once they actually start selling things. They seemed to have decent stock, and I found a well-priced nice necklace I fully intended to purchase. The owner or who ever is managing the men's department need to realize that just because men don't drive your business don't mean it can't grow. The selection they have for men is HORRIBLE. They have a bunch of button down, basic tees, and basic denim. I brought in clothes that i feel they're men's department could use and they didn't purchase (bought all the women clothing though). They have an entire "designer" case full of women accessories & clothing but not the same for men. These people are missing a huge opportunity for their business to grow. SO VERY disappointed in their return policy. I spent over $100 YESTERDAY and bought my husband (2) pair of shoes he did not care for- the TAGS were STILL attached. THIS MORNING- I returned to the store to explain I needed to exchange some merchandise and I WAS WILLING to SPEND yet another couple of hundred dollars there; EASY. Unfortunately, they do not accept returns on shoes (even if the tags are attached) NOTE: the shoes totaled $50. So, unfortunately I had to eat the cost and I'm so disappointed I won't be going back there. I too am a business woman and there's NO WAY I'd lose customers to $50- especially, knowing I am a consistent shopper and spend a lot of money there each and every time. I have sent family, friends, and my patients there- but I will be sharing my story with everyone about my experience today. Again, I understand everyone has policies- BUT we always can make exceptions for certain circumstances to insure our customers are happy and continue to return to help our business succeed, right? The tags were literally STILL on the shoes and JUST purchased YESTERDAY. I'm so upset and disappointed in this store. Had they made this exception the way they did for my brand new shoes with tags still attached- I'd of still been there shopping and easily spent another couple hundred dollars. My business will go to Platos Closet on Bandera (now) I have NEVER had a problem returning anything there and the staff are So Kind and understanding. I went in today after my sister explaining how she drive by this place & it looked like a cute thrift store! The individuals working there have a severely rude aura around them. They were very pessimistic and not very welcoming. We observed a young lady asking if she could get an item that was on a body display & the associates response was "oh, everyone wants everything off the bodies today" her response "oh, I'm sorry". If items displayed are not for sale than why are they displayed? The vibes were just really off & it was quite overpricing for a supposedly "thrift" store. This place just keeps going downhill. When I started shopping here 2(?) years ago, it was a gold mine. I filled up 6 punch cards over the years. Now it's a mess of cheap brands: target, Charlotte Russe, old navy, h&m, forever 21... Even then, those brands are WAY overpriced. I'd say pretty much the same price as you'd pay new! I haven't found a single thing worth buying for at LEAST 3 visits. The kids who do the buying must be super young, like high school, because all the garments are very "juniors" feeling. Fast-fashion, poor quality clothes that probably won't survive the washing machine.... But it will look acceptable the first time you wear it! They have "sticker sales" but the stickered items are bottom of the barrel hideous shit garbage. Like, someone should have been fired for accepting those garments in the first place. I know they do sticker sales to clear the racks. But they just replace it with even more garbage!! Oh, also they spam the shit out of your cell phone and email. Constant 10% and 15% coupons. Like, yeah, okay, thanks for the $0.50 off my garment. Not interested. Opt out, or never give your information to begin with. Go to Plato's closet. Statistically, you'll have better luck. I'd say resale stores like this are 80% shit clothes, and 20% good brands. Of that 20%, who knows what is available in your size? Plato's closet is twice the size of Uptown. Therefore, you are ultimately more likely to find something worthwhile. I'm tired of wasting my time at Uptown. I might try back occasionally... but unless their buying standards improve, consider me a lost customer. read more

As both a buyer and a seller, Uptown is just 'okay'. Once, I did get a fair offer but each other time I have sold I thought the offer was too low. You can find a great deal, but it does take a lot of time because they overstock the store. It's hard to look for clothes when you can hardly move the clothes to see what's packed on the racks. The customer service is hit or miss, with some employees being very rude and others being very nice. Also, while I haven't been in each dressing room, they have no place to sit. A small bench would be nice in each dressing room. However, the multiple hangers in each dressing room are nice and convenient to hang clothes. read more

Aero jeans,CK top.. CR tops.. Agaci.. Express. . And Nordstrom. . Took some items to platos and they took 14 items for 34 bucks.. (F21,Agaci tops.. belt.. rings) and got at least 2 bucks per item.. and that's cuz the items uptown took were better.. So for selling I'd go try Platos.. for shopping..I'd come here read more

A total ripoff. I'd rather donate to a thrift store. I brought in about 30 items which were mostly dept. store quality stuff including a leather jacket originally priced at $300 alone as well as some formal pants i haven't even worn yet (they still had the tags on!). Out of all of that they told me they could only accept 5 of the items for just $11. All the while they are selling Walmart quality shirts on the racks (even an Insane Clown Posse shirt) that got some black grime all over my hand after sifting through them. The clothes they sell aren't even clean! I only accepted the transaction because I had no other options and really needed to clear out some space at my house. P.S. I got nothing against Walmart clothes or ICP, I'm just saying half the stuff they sell here should be rags or donated while they offer you hardly nothing for the clothes you spent a lot of money on and took good care of. read more

I've been really hesitant about writing this review.. I've been coming here for a couple of years now and I can say the business is not what it used to to be. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS KEY. I work retail myself for the past 5 years and I know how important customer service is to everyone. I used to be greeted every time I came in the store once I first heard about uptown. Now, I'm lucky if someone just looks at me. The fitting rooms are always clean so I will give that and the floor is always organized accordingly. When selling clothes they are picky but for all the right reasons. One night I was here shopping at around 6, a customer came in asking if they were still buying clothes. The girl at the register was probably the best employee there with a great attitude that kindly told the customer she would check. She then asked the older male (assuming manager) if they were and he didn't even LOOK at the customer to her face to politely say something along the lines of "No ma'am, unfortunately we are not at this time." He said with a rude voice "No." I love this store and the cheap prices but please.. work on customer service. Train employees to be more social to customers. read more

My mom and I heard about uptown cheapskate on KSAT12 and the way they explained it was the store would be able to take in all the clothes that I didn't need/want any more in my wardrobe. I took a chance and after I got declined at Plato's closet; I decided to take my less than three months old clothes and take it to Uptown. I had a couple scarves, three brand new pairs of Old Navy jeans, $110 dress that I bought from TORRID, I only wore once, 2 Torrid jeans I bought online as a final sale and couldn't return them and a couple of cardigans from forever 21 and target. When I got there the place looked really nice and I was really excited because I didn't know what to expect but at the same time I did so they had me sign in on an iPad. I waited for about 35 minutes just for them to tell me that they can only give me $3 for the dress that I got from TORRID. They said that they couldn't give me any other deals because all my clothes were "outdated". I could completely understand and agree if my clothes were more than a year old however I had recently bought them in the past three months. When I had asked the girl if she could give me an explanation why they couldn't take the jeans that I had or any of the other clothing that I had, she said she didn't look at them her coworker did. This is my second time in two weeks to visit this location. Both times I've spent much more money than I expected but came out with some amazing very reasonably priced namebrand items. Prices are very reasonable, the service is excellent. I've not experienced any dirty clothes, everything is priced appropriately, a great selection of sizes for both men and women. I even found a nearly brand new pair of Justin roper boots for my husband at $35. Wonderful place and I love being able to save money on name brands. Watch for their sales and for their special events which can get you even more money off the already affordable prices! read more
