I don't understand why it took me so long to make a trip to Uptown Cheapskate in Timonium, but I finally made it. And it was love at first designer label pick up! Uptown Cheapskate is literally going to be my new choice of clothing store, I was in heaven!!! There is a wide selection of men and women's clothing, accessories, shoes, and purses offered, all new and modern. You immediately think that they cater to a younger crowd, which they do, but there is a great selection of designer labels such as Ann Taylor,The Loft, and New York & Company. Definitely a great place to shop at for work clothes that may not always fit in your budget. I literally kept picking up different pieces of clothing as I made my way through the neatly separated sizes of choice. Had I had more time, and more money, I'm sure I would've walked out of that store with more. But two really nice Ann Taylor shirts for $12 is a steal. The young gentleman in the fitting room was really nice, and almost charmed me into buying another shirt, but my pockets said otherwise. Uptown Cheapskate is the kind of store that you want to visit when you have some time on your hands and don't mind carousing their racks. It is a definite must shop store if you are a bargain shopper, like myself. I'm so mad at myself because I didn't check out this store sooner. I've known about it for years, yet I was so silly to drive by everyday and not check it out. First, I need to say that Precious was very helpful. Since it was my first time, she explained to me how the process worked and she was helpful with my silly questions. She was extremely personable and informative as she told me about the discount of 10% on Wednesday's and how during your birthday month you get a really good discount(quite frankly I can't remember what it is) but you should do some googles. I was told it would be a 45 minute wait. I came in around 10:20 A.M., but the buyer hadn't arrived yet so I was free to look around. This store has an amazing selection of quality fashionable clothes. Also, it's organized by size and color. Clothes aren't packed tightly in the store. Aisles were easy to maneuver through and I was honestly quite amazed by the selection. This is such a change from a consignment shop I've visited a few times about 8 miles south of Uptown Cheapskate. Management is extremely rude to their sellers. I will never ever go back to buy or sell. I didn't care how much I was getting back but I ended up taking my items back just because the Manager was very ruse. FYI, they were going to offer me $80 cash or $100 store credit for 4 summer dresses (bought from Charlotte Ruse last year), 3 Michael Korrs handbags with matching wallets in excellent condition. I would have agreed to their quote but I ended up taking my items back because the Manager was so rude and disrespectful towards me. Love this place! You have to be in the mood to shop here and sift through things but they have tons of variety to choose from. Staff is so friendly and will start a fitting room for you if they see you carrying a bunch of stuff around. I've only sold my clothes to them once so I know first hand they are very picky, which goes to show the quality of the clothes they have. I had a few pairs of jeans with minor fraying at the bottom and they wouldn't take them, so they quality of the clothes here is like new. They also have new items that they sell. You can't beat the prices here for the quality of clothing. I rarely find anything over $15 unless it's an expensive brand or something more substantial like a coat. I will say that every time I come in the store I feel like the store has been rearranged, but it's not a huge store so it doesn't take long to find what you need. They are very organized and you will find everything separated by type of clothing, then size, then color. I can always find cute things that I like when I come here. read more

Love this shop! The prices are unbelievably low. Their sale rack is just unbelievable!! I buy dresses and tops there for $1-3 on sale but even full price they're only like $10. I love thrift/consignment stores but this place marks up clothing items way too high! I found only one item which was an old LL Bean jacket. Unfortunately I do not have experience with selling here so I cannot speak on that end. For buying some trendy clothes I'd rather go to a Goodwill in a nice area to find the same clothing for 1/3 of the price. Or even better, browse the sale sections at F21 and find the dress for pretty much the same price. Overall it is still a very nice store and excellent concept. Very well organized. Has dressing rooms to try on clothing. The people who work there are also pleasant and friendly. Probably won't be going this place again unfortunately. i work right over across the parking lot at the salon and enjoy going over to uptown on my break or when im off of work. they always have up to date clothes. its a bit more expensive then your typical "thrift" store but its worth it with the brands and condition of the clothes! plus the staff is typically always nice and willing to help, and i am greated with a smile EVERY time i walk in the door :) read more

What a great option to buy trendy, affordable, secondhand clothes! Everything that I found in this store was high-quality and appeared to be almost new. Uptown Cheapskate does a wonderful job of selecting clothes that are in style, making it easy to find a variety of options. I love how organized the store is. When you go into a thrift store you expect to spend a lot of time sorting through items, but the way Uptown Cheapskate color codes their clothing really helps to narrow down the process. One star off because some name brand items are still very costly. I saw a couple of pairs of name brand shoes (think Hunter rain boots) sold at a higher price than I found online new. My girlfriend and I went here yesterday with a basket full of mostly unworn (tags still attached) clothing, purses and ties. I we were asked to put all of our items in a bin and were then told to leave the bin somewhere on the sales floor. Then we were told that they probably wouldn't be able to get to our stuff on the very same day, so we were told we would be expecting a call at some point today. Today arrives, and we never received a call from them, so we proceeded to call them back. Upon looking and looking for our things they eventually seemed to remember who we were but were very flippant about it, describing our items as "old man clothes" (which were in actuality a bunch of button down shirts) amongst other things. At the end of it, it turned out that they (supposedly) ended up not wanting any of our items, and therefore proceeded to donate all of our stuff. All this without letting us know what was going on! This is absolutely unprofessional and cannot be tolerated. All we got from them was a lukewarm apology and that was it. Overall, the employees had an attitude that suggested how little they truly cared about us. We were helped by a dark-haired girl, wearing a Nevermore necklace and a deeper voice, who had me place the bin of clothing on the floor for her; instead of her doing her job, showing a sense of urgency and discipline and decent customer service, we received the opposite by these people. read more

Finally got around to cleaning out my wardrobe (should have done it a few years ago) and wanted to see if I could get some cash out of my clothes or donate them. I found this boutique after some online research and was very pleased with my visit! The store is soo well kept and had some amazing items for cheap, so I will definitely be back to shop. The items I wasn't able to sell were donated which I thought was great. Depending on the season and what they are looking for you can get a good amount of cash for your items. I scored a calvin klein sweater, banana republic sweater, tanktop, necklace and blouse for $50. The items on the shelf range for extremely used to new with tag items, so you have to dig, but there were a lot of nice things in there, and the prices are right! I also like that if you don't need a bag, that donate money to a charity of your choice. There are four 5-star reviews that have been filtered. This is a consignment shop or what they like to call, fashion exchange because they give you money or store credit (your choice) for your stuff right away, versus having to wait for a sale. I took some items over. Was told it would take about 15 minutes to assess and that I could look around or go get a cup of coffee while I waited. Well, after all that was said and done, I ended up with only $40 in my pocket or I could have opted for a $50 store credit. Honestly, I felt a bit taken. You could say it's my lack of experience doing this kind of thing, but I really thought I had some nice (and new) stuff--a new Coach bag, 2 really BCBG dresses, a pair of new heels that were never worn, a French Connection blouse (also hardly worn) and some other items. At no point did anyone offer to go through what I brought to say here's what I'll give you for this and I'm not sure if that's something they will do upon request. Everyone was very nice in the store. I just felt that I didn't really get what I expected and wouldn't do it again. But not at this place, Everything is recent style, arranged by size and color and type of clothing and there are many, many high end brands. I'm sure the lower rated reviews are from sellers. I, myself, was hesitant to sell my clothes to this store as I have had very little success at consignment shops (*cough* Plato's Closet), and I have that Ebay is a better option if you have the patience. But since I didn't have the energy to upload pictures of two bags worth of clothes, plus several pairs of shoes, I gave Uptown a shot. I get to the store and before I even enter I see things in the window I would be interested in buying- good sign! They told me the wait would be at least an hour and a half but luckily I did not have to wait into store like others require you to. Oh and the store is very clean, the sales people very friendly, and there was tons of merchandise within eyesight that I wanted to buy. I ended up leaving for over 2 hours and found out that they would offer me $40 or $50 in store credit (they accepted about half of my items). I was satisfied with that and accepted the cash. One thing I noticed when I got home (and I wish they had told me that) is that I received an email as soon as they did my transaction letting me know it was ready and the amount they would offer- holy smokes! I really was on the fence between giving a 2 or a 3 but ended up with a 2 because I when I was checking out I was listening to the manager talk to her employees, and oh my god I felt bad for the people working there! She was extremely rude and talking down to them making them feel bad about things they hadn't done when she wasn't there. All of this IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS CHECKING OUT. While I was selling/shopping, the employees were super friendly and nice so I have no clue why she was being so terrible to them. They were also working crazy hard the whole time I was shopping (they seemed overwhelmed). What were they supposed to completely ignore customers so that they could do what she wanted done? She needs to work on her management style and really consider how she acts around/towards customers. Now, for the actual review of the store. I love shopping second-hand but lately it seems like this store is focusing much more on the teenage crowd. That's not necessarily a problem in of itself, but I think they need to be clearer about that. As a shopper, I'm disappointed by the quality of the selection (I personally think the Annapolis location does a much better job). It's crazy because the racks are often so crowded that it's hard to even look through the clothing but, at the same time, they don't seem to have much variety. With a lot of effort, I can usually find one or two nice tops, but maybe they could work on the organization/number of items on the racks (it shouldn't be so hard to look through the clothing). They also seem really weird about buying clothes. I brought in a bunch of designer stuff (e.g. J. Crew pants, which is one of the brands advertised on their homepage) in really good condition and they didn't buy a single thing. I was especially confused because most of it was men's clothing (according to my husband, that part of the store could always use more items and I know many second-hand places have trouble finding good quality men's clothes). They gave a vague response that the stuff was either old and out of style or damaged (it wasn't damaged...). I tried clarifying whether they ever look for the type of stuff I brought in but they gave a pretty vague response. Anyway, for the area, I think this place is OK. This review is in reference to the Towson location. They never seem to buy clothing. I brought them 2 full bags of clothing, shoes & a purse in great condition (no holes, stains, missing burins, pulls, etc) & that were very cute & in style. Not to mention at least 1/2 of the clothes were FROM Uptown Cheapskate!! I overheard the woman looking over my stuff say 'well it's just not part of our style' & 'there's some wear on the shoes' Um, well yeah, I wore them!!! They market themselves as taking 'used' clothing!! I guess by used they mean they want clothes that were bought but never worn. I have taken clothing to this location before & it was the same story, Also- don't donate to them because they won't even give you a tax receipt. I came to Uptown Cheapskate for the first time to sell 10 pairs of Levi's jeans, 2 dresses, 2 rompers, a pair of heels, a pair of sandals, and 2 VS Pink sports bras I was looking to get rid of. I called ahead to ask about their process and felt good about taking my clothes there. I got to the store and I immediately got rubbed the wrong way from the staff and how they interacted with me. Their tone and attitudes were rude and condescending and as a first time customer I felt out of place and this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I was given different information in the store compared to what the associate told me on the phone about how their process works. All total they only took 7 of my items and I received $23 in cash for it. I spoke with the manager about it and she didn't seem very empathetic to my experience as a first time customer. All she said was that she personally appraised my items as if that was supposed to make me feel better. I'll probably never come here again to shop or sell my clothing which sucks because I was hoping for a much better experience. read more

Uptown Cheapskate is a great place to find designer clothes on the cheap. There was a vast array of men's and women's clothing, shoes, belts and purses. I came across plenty of great finds (some with the original tags still on them) and left out with two bags of great finds. Discounted retail therapy at its finest! The customer service is good and the staff is quite friendly. Checkout was good and seamless. I like that they have a version of a frequent buyer's card and shoppers can enjoy 15% every time they shop during their birthday month. If you're looking to rid your wardrobe of items, you can definitely bring them here and either get cash or store credit. A few pointers: Take your time. When I first started perusing all I saw were items from Forever 21, but I stayed, took my time and continued looking. Tucked in between those Forever 21 shirts was a Burberry shirt that was pefect for my wardrobe! Reconcile the hanger label versus the actual size of the garment. Translation: I've found plenty of shirts in my size on a hanger marked with a different size. For my experienced thrifters: be mindful of the purses and shades. Although these items are deeply discounted from their MSRP price, some of them are still too pricey and in some instances, it may be better to save those coins and wait for a sale at another retailer.
