Scratch Chicken Pot Pie
Erik T.

We were on our way back from the coast and wanted to stop for lunch. We found the Uptown Grill and what an amazing find it was! The menu looked incredible and there were a ton of options we wanted to try. In the end we chose the Scratch Chicken Pot Pie and were not disappointed. It was simply incredible. I do love me some pot pie and get it whenever I see it on the menu. This was probably the best I've had. I highly recommend. If you like it a little spicy, ask for their house-made hot sauce. It is damn fine...in fact, it was so good I bought a bottle bring home. :) We loved everything about our experience, the food, the atmosphere, and especially the friendly staff. Thanks to front and back of house staff that made this incredible. We'll be back.

Really delicious flaky pastry chicken pot pie. We also got a burger which was fantastic as well! Service was a good pace and the restaurant has a nice country vibe. Would go back again to try other items on the menu!

On our way to Canon Beach we decided to stop for dinner in Olympia and found Uptown Grill. We got Chicken PotPie and Chicken Adobo bowl. The Chicken Pot Pie was good, we loved the Chicken Adobo Bowl. The combination of rice, slaw, onions, cucumbers and cashew was great. We would definitely come back the next time we are in Olympia.

Ramen with chicken

What a great spot in downtown Olympia! This was our first time here and we can't wait to come back and try more of the menu! Our bartenders were so friendly and helpful! We decided on the teriyaki chicken bowl and the ramen bowl with chicken. Both were excellent with fresh ingredients and lots of vegetables.

Love this place! Always busy, but service is on point. Was looking for something different for lunch, but the pot pie called to me in a mystical, magical way. Can you say 'the perfect meal!'? The only downside is the crust is so darn flaky, you're going to get lots of crumbs on you - kinda like eating beignets and avoiding getting powdered sugar all over you...impossible! You gotta try it, you will not be disappointed. Though at $24.95, it's a little pricey for a lunch!

If 4.0 is your gauge for average then this is above. Not necessarily a must try but if you are looking for a pleasant place with good food then this is your spot. Food, service and atmosphere were excellent. It is a place my group found ourselves sitting after the meal to chat and enjoy the atmosphere. For someone like me that is rare. Everything has to be just right, not only the food and atmosphere but the the moods and people you are with as well. Normally I'm a eat and retreat kind of person. The braised pork poutine was exceptional and a must get, large enough to share between 4 people. Be careful if your main meal comes with fries though, as it might turn into French fries overload. I didn't try the Beef Stroganoff but my mother in law cleaned the plate (which is rare for her) so I'd assume it was good Slow-Roasted California Tri-Tip BBQ Steak Sandwich was delicious, a little too much sauce but the flavors were great and steak was perfectly sliced / cooked. Loved the caramelized onions and additional onion ring inside. The French fries were also very good that came with the Sandwhich We got our kids Milk Shakes, Fried Chicken & French Fries. The fried chicken was more of an in house cutlet sliced into chicken finger form, which for us was a step above the normal chicken finger. The shakes were both good and the kids were happy

Spicy Margarita with Black Salt

I unfortunately can't say much about Uptown Grill's food beyond their sweet potato fries which were absolutely delicious when paired with honey mustard however, I can say that my experience here was wonderful and I will be back again. The service was fantastic with our waitress being extremely kind, personable and just downright great at her job. She made us feel welcome and took great care to recommend, check in on us and ensure we had what we needed. It wasn't too terribly busy and we were able to get a table for our bigger group with space around us. Very comfortable atmosphere in a busy spot. Parking in the area can be tough so there may be a bit of a walk to get here because of that. Now the food and drinks. As I said above, the sweet potato fries were so good! They were crispy yet soft and flavored perfectly. I also tried a spicy margarita drink that was recommended to me with a tequila that I believe they mentioned was house-made and black salt. It was surprisingly good and I could see it pairing well with some of their other dinner offerings. I wasn't as big of a fan of the huckleberry lemon drop but I am not a huge fan of the subtle floral notes. It was still a great experience regardless and I'll be back to check them out again soon.

Delicious scratch-kitchen in downtown Olympia. They make the strawberry lemonade themselves and it was a great sweet yet sour refreshing drink. The Australian Wagyu burgers were perfect! The sweet potato fries too! And the sauce they make to dip was a slightly sweet and savory blueberry honey mustard. I would love to use that dip for so many things! We can't wait to enjoy more meals here!

This was a nice little find for a beer and a bite of dinner. Service was good, without pestering us. The beer selection is good and our server helped me make a good beer selection that hit the spot. I had the steak salad that was also exactly what I needed. Lots of greens and some perfectly done delicious steak. Worth a stop in for sure.

Scratch Chicken Pot Pie Specialty and new Orleans style prawns
Alexis V.

the prawns were not totally reminiscent of NOLA quality, but I could tell that there was effort put in to get that taste of spice rather than spicy. would have been nice if the bread was a bit warmer and fully cut because it was hard to get through the tough breading of the baguette. Love the touch of a sunny-side-up egg because the yolk nicely melted into the prawns and meats. chicken pot pie size was bigger than expected, which is great! dim lighting, but still nice to capture a picture. loved the slender cups that they serve because it is easy to cup your hands around them. also liked the clear signs that were legible about where to go to seat ourselves, but will say that the waiting area for tables is a bit cramped with the host podium in the middle of the aisle where you must walk through. appreciate the offer of cracked pepper by the waitress, who was so attentive in ensuring that my table was topped off on liquids. waitress would not interject in the middle of conversation and caught on social cues quick to know when to interrupt for refills. good place to go to if you are meeting your neighbor for the first time, especially during the MLK Jr. holiday weekend!

Gorgonzola Mac and Cheese

Ok, so we have been back..twice. The second trip we saw the same server as before but luckily we got someone else and she was great. That time I went with a burger and it was ok. The menu does say you can't change what's on it, you'll have to order the customized burger but when I asked our server if that's really the case just to not have onions she said not to worry and that made me happy. The third time we went is because I received a gift certificate and well it's a free meal. We got the most awesome server this time, who was personable, knowledgeable and fun! I went back to the Gorgonzola Mac and added pork this time and it was smothered in oil but good. My husband got the pork chop with brussells and sweet potatoes and when I tried it, I was jealous because it was sooo delicious. So yes, we will be back again because 2/3 great experiences thus far is a good thing and I want my own pork chop next time.

I adore this place! We've been there twice this week. The bartender (Brad?) is amazing. Roxy is so friendly. They're great people. The food is fresh. Everything we've tried is excellent. Wonderful gluten free options.

This restaurant is now one of my favorites when I visit Olympia. Everything is fresh and flavorful. The portions are a great size. Had the beer battered cod tacos and with very flavorful and delicious. They do add a scratch kitchen for the cooks as a tip. Sky our waitress was very attentive. I will definitely be back. Double yummy

Are the clam chowder and teriyaki sauce gluten free? Trying to decide on food before I arrive (I'm allergic to gluten).

They both contain gluten! But we have gluten free bread so any of our burgers and sandwiches can be gluten free, and a new pasta made with pea flour!

Is there outside dining available currently? Hard to tell anymore as everything changes from week to week and may have changed since the most recent review.

Yes, there are a few tables outside. I went by there yesterday and there were people there. I would call ahead because the tables are minimal.

Next best was the bread - it was perfectly soft inside with a crispy crust. Between how oily the dish was and my nose running from the increased spice as I continued eating, I wouldn't return for this dish. The eggs weren't noticeable in appearance or taste- I had to search for them. The "creamy grits" were creamy, but the black pepper taste was STRONG. Definitely ordered the side for the "creamy" factor, hoping when the server said harissa in the eggs would have a mild spice, that the grits would calm my mouth. The amount of pepper made this unsuccessful. But if you like black pepper a lot then you'll enjoy them. My son enjoyed the beignet's. The server was also the host and he was kind. It was easy to get his attention when needed. I didn't see anyone with a grin on their face after taking bites of their food. I looked around quite a bit out of curiosity. So for ambiance, kind and prompt service, and the possibilities of the menu I gave it 4 stars. We only tried the few things I mentioned. I did also appreciate the bottle of water ready on every table. Note that there is no kids menu and it's mostly table seating. So maybe try on your own or with other adults, and leave the kids at home?

Cozy atmosphere. There were 3 employees that night, the woman who initially waited on us actually appeared to roll her eyes when we ordered. She seemed pretty rushed and just didn't want to work that night or something. The bartender was friendly and came for our second round and he actually seemed more welcoming and friendly. The drinks menu is a bit small (compared to other nearby bars). We got 5 drinks, one espresso one which wasn't great and the rest were alright. Nothing that made us go "Oh man, try that!" but they weren't bad either. The food, looks better than normal bar food, which I loved. We ordered "Balls of Gibralter" - North African meatballs, which were *SO GOOD*, so delicious EXCEPT the texture. The flavors were all amazing, but it was as if there was too much egg and not enough breadcrumbs because it gave the impression of being wildly undercooked, even though you could see no pink. In other words, it's just my thing. I don't need a bar to have a food menu. I don't need it to take credit cards. I don't need it to have TVs lining the walls or be blasting the latest dance music. I do need it to be a place where I can nurse a few drinks and be with myself (or my friends) without such distractions, and the Crypt fits that bill perfectly. BTW, if you need to have the aforementioned things, there are a dozen other places for you to go near downtown. If you want to be more social, or party with a bigger group, they have a patio.
