Great location, really decent prices (even before shows at the Aragon) and very good waitress who rocked the booths like nobody's business. Great place to meet before a show in the 'hood. Staff is very friendly, again, especially the waitress. Decent sized space and easy to move around even when packed. No crazy lines for the bathroom, no bad attitude from the bartenders and healthy pours on the reasonably priced cocktails. I've been to Uptown Lounge only for super-late-night drinking when there was a need for a dark corner and more booze. I can't say too much about the place because my face was either in my beer or latched on to a boy's; I wasn't really paying that much attention! :-X I do know that I felt like the bartender was cool, the bouncer friendly and the bathrooms were clean. That's about all I need in a drinking establishment that late at night. Close to home, open super late and good for making out. Win! read more

This bar is ok. The drinks are slightly overpriced but I went after a sold out concert at the Aragon ballroom and this is right next to it. However, it didn't have a cover charge so that was definitely a win. I didn't like how it was set up, the tables and chairs sit around the edges making it awkward to stand which is your only other option besides being sprinkled with beer and due to the lack of elbow room at the bar. Luckily, me and my gal pal were able to sit at a table with two lovely ladies that allowed us to sit with them while we enjoyed our drinks. All in all there is a street of bars just around the corner, if you're just visiting Id recommend you try one of those. Less crowded and still fun. read more

Deciding on a bar open past 2am is difficult...there are plenty of options, but they often become a last ditch effort to find your Mr./Ms. "Right Now." Uptown Lounge cannot consider itself above this force of nature; however, they do provide very decent drinks, comfy booths and ample floor space in which to watch the nightly game of beer-goggle hook-up. The music is random depending on the "dj" last time I was here, it was Hammer Time....and the women's restroom has three stalls (this alone gets a star) I can't complain enough about bars that have a single stall in the ladies. I'm not at all surprised that Uptown Lounge doesn't have many 5-star ratings nor many 1 & 2-star ratings. It's solid. Nothing special and definitely not bad. I often come here for Monday night and Thursday night football games because I don't get them on my TV and these guys do. Service is friendly, they have a good selection of beer... and that's really all I care about. If you want a bar, this is a bar. If you want something flashy, this isn't flashy. Normally, I like this place because they have a good amount of beers on tap and the lounge atmosphere is really cool with regards to comfortable seating, spacious area, and it's open til 4am which is nice if you don't feel like paying cover at Green Mill or experiencing the loudness of Kinetic Playground. My cousin swears it's a gay bar, but it didn't seem that way to me. There is usually a DJ here, but I can't recall the music being exceptional or anything like that. I ordered a Fat Tire and found it to be completely flat which had the effect of slowing down my drinking big time. What really bothered me on my last visit some Somali cab driver was totally staring at my friend and making obscene / rude gestures. I know he was Somali because he was harassing me outside about my friend. To reiterate 1) While it's open late, the Uptown scaries come out late at night. 2) You're not going to lose an arm or leg here, but you might get handed a flat beer! 3) The Red Line and Lawrence bus run all night in case you need to plan an exit, luckily it is easy to find a cab. read more

After my last visit to Uptown Lounge last Friday, I really want to give this place 1 star. I'm going to be more fair than that. See what kind of a level headed Yelper I am? I've been to this bar 5 or 6 times I guess. It's very nice on the inside, very loung-ey. Drinks are fine, jukebox is good. One piece of advice- go late. When I've been there after too many at other places, this place is heaven. I went there around 9-ish last week and had one of the shittiest bartenders I've ever had. No greeting, no what can I get you- nothing. I felt I was seriously inconveniencing this chick and taking her away from flirting with her hipster/frat-boy buddy at the other end of the bar. The only attention my end of the bar got from her afetr my initial beer was when she brow beat this poor drunken cheese-head who had the nerve to light a cigarette not knowing that you can't smoke in Chicago. When he fled the bar from her shrieking, she turned her attention to his companion, who apparently comes here occasionally. She then gave him shit. I was afraid I was gonna be next. This place was aight, my friend had a bday party here and they gave us the back room. I had a party once and had to give up the back room, but that was a bachelor party. The staff - nice, professional and not up in our grill. My drunken idiot friend walked out of the bar with his drink & when I worked the door, that was grounds for a smack down. I love Uptown Lounge! I first went there on a blind date and it was a great, the date, not so much, but the establishment was superb. Everyone who works there was super chill, but accommodating. The music is good as well and they are open super late, which is always good. I returned twice, once with my girlfriend, who loved it and once with my then bf. We wanted a quiet night out after he got off work from another bar in LP, and Uptown was the destination. We had a good time and the music was pleasing the crowd has been very chill all three times that I have been there and the set up is pretty cool as well. This is a good little spot to go with a little older crowd and without the drunken foolishness of some other late night establishments. Check it out! read more

Great little bar hidden away near the Lawrence red line stop in Uptown. We came here to meet a prospective wedding vendor (a DJ, whom we hired on the spot). The place was pretty empty, save for a few lingerers drinking away their sorrows after the Cubs lost the first playoff game (don't want to peak too early, I say). I'm told the bar gets very hopping in the wee hours, since it is one of the only 4 am bars around. I dig the decor -- classy, sexy, yet comfortable. $4 Hacker Schorr specials -- yes please! The drinks are very reasonably priced here, and seems they have specials just about every night of the week. I get the feeling that it's a very chill atmosphere, even on crazy weekend nights. Not as gay as Crew, not as hipster as Fat Cat -- just a cool place to drink and hang with friends. Uptown Lounge is one more reason to love this little strip of Broadway. I'd like to return on a weekend night to see it in its full late night glory, but for a casual beer on a Wednesday evening, it was perfect. read more

My go to karaoke spot. It's definitely not one of those super hip always packed with drunk 20 somethings kind of place, and that's why I love it. The crowd here is always chill and friendly. There aren't many options for 4am bars in Uptown, but The Uptown Lounge is all you need to end a great night out. Having just moved out of Lakeview, I'm used to having late night options in this area (The Closet, Charlie's, Nick's Uptown, etc.). Even with these options, none of those places would receive a four star review compared to Uptown Lounge. You really see just how diverse Uptown is when you walk into this bar around 2:30 am. This place is always playing some great music and maintains a relaxed and pre-2:00 am atmosphere (read: everyone is not wizasted and falling down drunk). The bar's layout is open enough to be able to chat with new people - the first time I went with a group of friends, a couple of guys invited us to join them in their large booth and we had a great time getting to know them. Bottom line: if it's 2am and you're not ready to go home, then stop by The Uptown Lounge for a fun and friendly atmosphere and very reasonably priced drinks (domestics are only $3.50 on a weekend!). My band recently played a Saturday show here. We normally play in the Western Suburbs so we didn't know what to expect. We were able to park right across the street (pay box) and load in was a breeze through a door that goes right to the stage. Sergio the sound man and his helper (sorry I don't remember your name) were very attentive and did great sound for us! Antwon (sorry if misspelled) the door man was very helpful and was even dancing to our music at one point. Jen the bartender was all smiles and very attentive. All of the patrons we spoke to enjoyed are sets and we hope to return for another gig there! We got paid well and there were no problems whatsoever. Sure the drinks are a bit pricey, but not bad considering the location. Keep up the good work, Uptown! read more

Chill, low-key place, that defines upscale dive bar -- with booths lining the left side of the bar and dim sexy lighting. DJs spinning different types of music throughout the week. We happened to go on vintage rock night, and he played all the James Brown, David Bowie and Rolling Stones we wanted. Cheap drinks and friendly people too. Uptown Lounge is a great place to hit up after a show at the Aragon Ballroom or the Riviera Theater. They got some good deals and a great selection of beer on tap and bottled. The place is big too. Plenty of seating and dancefloor, plus a second pool room. As a DJ, I dig their set up...2 Technics 1200's and the Pioneer DJM-500, as well as a dual deck Denon CD player with pitch control, loops, and a cool break feature that allows you to slow down the song like a record. If you're looking to party, this place is good 'cause there's no cover and it's open 'til 4am (and 5 on Saturdays). The music selection is a bit eclectic. But if you're looking for rock, punk, and metal music I suggest going on Thursdays. read more

This is a nice place to chill in an eclectic neighborhood that could use a few more bars to cater to the locals and concert goers. It is somewhat lacking in enough seating, but it is dark, loungy and purrrfect for hanging with friends. The service is fairly prompt, and the drinks are decently priced. There are great booths located in front of large, street-side windows, which are outstanding for checking out the Uptown scene, and unbelievable architecture. It is located almost directly across the street from the Lawrence Red line stop, and about a 1/2 a block from the #36. I liked the inside of the bar. Decor was simple, nice layout. The bartender on this Tuesday night did not seem to be interested in being there or serving customers. I was pretty disappointed by the Uptown Lounge. The locals all tell me how chill it is. It is indeed chill, however it lacks one thing...fun. The bar is full of single guys, who are all waiting for the cute waitress to come and chat with them. If you get one thing here, it's great personal attention! These waitresses spend time chatting with all the guys in there. The only problem is that every guy in there is under the impression that he has a chance, so these poor slobs keep going back, and keep tipping big. They never knew what hit them... The first time I went there, it was because a friend of a friend needed a Wingman. So as we stroll in, I notice that it's a complete Sausage fest in there. Then I realize that the girl he wants help with works there. Now I know two things...Don't hit on the staff...because every other guy in there is doing it...and two...if she flirts back, she is seeking big tips... I went up here on a Saturday night late to see a friend perform. I remember when the bar changed hands and went from a traditional 'dive' to the new and improved upscale-y place that it is today, back when I used to live in Uptown. I never did go there back then, so I had no idea what to expect. The space is nice. Long bar, filling the right side of the room. The left side is low tables and booths. Big clean bathrooms. There is another room off to the side where the performances are, but it was so packed, we couldn't even get in. We sat at the bar and watched baseball highlights and drank overpriced beer. The bar was full of dudes in baseball caps and flip flops and girls in heels and big earrings. It was pretty much a 2 to 1 ratio. And at the one point when my companion got up to use the facilities (leaving his beer and smokes at his stool, with me sitting with my arm across his stool for good measure), someone tried to take it and I got a dirty look for my polite "Um, that stool's still taken, sorry." I really never go here unless I'm looking to stay out till 4 a.m. It's usually a bad decision, as most 4am bars are. I can't comment too much on the drinks as at this point in the night it's usually anything goes for drinks. Easy to get to with the red line right there. Not bad for after shows at the Aragon I suppose too. Most of the Lincoln Square bars close around 2 or 3 latest. Came in here on a Friday evening, and the place was pretty empty. Granted it was early, maybe 4-5pm but it was still a bit strange. The lounge is nicely set-up, with booths and tables spread out around its surprisingly spacious interior. Then there's a bar at the front you can sit at, with bar food available from a local chain called Papa Ray's. This food service works through an app, and is delivered to your seat. You can order pizza, wings, French fries, and salads. Pretty convenient! The reason for the three stars is for the staff. The bartender was straight up unfriendly and it took forever for her to even acknowledge us. She was far too busy having a conversation with the two other people in the lounge. Can't imagine how it would be if the place had actually been busy. read more

Kimberly B. is right. The DJ on Friday night plays some good funky house music. The atmosphere is loungy, but not overpriced at all, and the crowd didn't seem pretentious like you see at many lounges and the service was great. I think it's better for groups rather than couples who want to chat. And it's a great place to either end a pub crawl or to start a certain-to-be late night of drinking. I haven't heard Evelyn "Champagne" King's "Love Come Down" since college. My roommate had an 80's compilation that we'd play when we hosted parties! And a night of drinking isn't complete without doing the "Guy" to the Stones' "Miss You." The "Guy" is the dance move of the future. You'll be seeing this move at all the clubs before you know it. We came in on a Friday night after walking by earlier and seeing a sign that they have karaoke. No cover, the singing starts at 10pm. The bartenders seemed a little testy when we were ordering. A bar doesn't need to be lit with fluorescents, but maybe lit enough that a person can at least read the taps or see what beer is in the fridges. But at least they have a few menus to give you... I expected it to be busier, but there was what appeared to be a very popular show at the Aragon on the street. But it certainly wasn't dead. Pleasantly packed, not uncomfortably so. Now...I am a karaoke snob, so I have my preferences. But I haaaate it when the KJs play a full song in between every karaoke-er. Especially when there are plenty of people on the list and wanting to sing. And this happened the whole time we were here. Also, the mic kept cutting in and out when I was singing, and crazy feedback a lot of the time. We still had a fun time and each got to sing a few songs. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but it was very close to where I was staying, so that is what really drew us in. read more

The rating is between 3/4. 4 it's. I have been here few times on weekday and the place has decent crowd+regular. It's a nice chill/roomy place. Quite a clean place. They have a pretty big beer selection but I didn't try any since I'm not into beer. I tried their extensive list of martinis. I had quite a few and I liked all the one I tried. They have a nice kick to them and tasted delicious. I'm into the flavored martini side instead of the dry/gin side. The two bartender ladies I met were quite mellow and real. Way too impressive of a beer selection to be a dive bar. Uptown broke my heart a little when they dropped the Breckenridge Vanilla Porter from its tap (though it is still available in bottles). It can be a bit much to handle on show dates for the Aragon or the Riviera (or God help you if it's both), but if you're in the neighborhood and you tire of seeing the same Anheuser-Busch lineup, and the Hopleaf is too crowded, it's a decent place to spend some time. read more
