Jessica was really great with my pedicure and gel polish on my hands. Another lady, Kim, did my hand cuticles and was very rude and aggressive - I was cut on 6 fingers. Two are infected today (the next day). I had to ask her to stop and that it's sensitive and hurts. She applied some alcohol to one nail and I told her it burns and she never said a word to me. Also, they don't have other services for the pedicure like parafin wax, scrub, masks--I saw pics of the levels for pedicures but I wasn't offered any. Have visited 3 times now. Once for pedi-manicure and twice for a polish change. What is the bottom line with nails??? How long does it last? Most do ok at first but some chip off within days. Went for a dip manicure one afternoon and I am pleased with the results. Is it absolutely perfect? No- nothing in life is perfect. Is it better than the last manicure I got from another salon? Absolutely! Overall my nails look very nice, but I did leave with a couple of fingers injured where the cuticles were overly cut back. So I've got to deduct a star for the cuticles, but the nicks are minor and the technician did a great job shaping my nails and buffing them down so that they're not overly thick. read more

Uptown is the first nail salon I've tried in Birmingham, and it did not disappoint! Initially, I thought I wanted acrylics, and this was one of the only top-rated spas in town that provided acrylic service. Upon showing the nail technician a reference photo of what I wanted, she recommended I do SNS (dip), so that's what I went with. Getting SNS done was so fun! I enjoyed the process, especially the feeling of dipping my fingers into the soft pigmented powder. Because of the nature of my chosen nail design, the lines of the colors were not perfectly achieved using the dip technique, but I think they look phenomenal nonetheless. I went with a friend, and we had a spectacular time chatting with the nail technicians, who were incredibly sweet. It was also easy to schedule an appointment: I called the morning-of and got an one for two people at 430PM that same afternoon. The space itself doesn't smell of heavy chemicals, as there are a series of small ventilation systems at every nail station for respiratory health. The only downside to my otherwise great experience was the pain around my cuticles during the dip process. I still have a scab on one of my fingers, but the pain subsided by the next day. I highly recommend going to Uptown and treating yourself to a wonderful session of beauty! read more

Their pedicure chairs are so old and worn and uncomfortable that my butt went numb. The music made me want to walk into traffic. Took my daughter shopping in Birmingham for the day, getting nails done was on her list so she found this place. Mary was my technician. I told her, like I always tell people, to make sure she got the polish very close to all the edges and cuticles as my nails grow fast. Up until this experience I have always been disappointed because they say OK, but then they never do, and after not even a week my nails are so grown out that I have to take it off. The picture I am posting is my gel at almost 2 weeks. You can only see a small amount of growth at the base of my nails because she listened and did what I asked. I have visited Uptown Nail Spa often, but not as often as I should! Uptown Nail Spa is conveniently located in a shopping center, which means a shared parking lot (yesss). I usually get the mani/pedi combo with Vinylux for my mani - a product that is more long-wearing than a traditional polish but that I am able to remove myself (unlike gel polish). The nail techs are friendly and efficient. The pedi stations are clean - I have seen nail techs spraying down the tubs and they also have disposable plastic liners in them. Also, I know they use an autoclave to sterilize tools - yay! I highly recommend Uptown Nail Spa. Walk-ins are welcome - get there early on weekends! Also be sure to pick up a rewards card. read more

After a suggestion from my significant other, we decided to spend a Sunday funday at Uptown Nail Spa after doing some light searching on Yelp for a nail place open on Sunday. The service was exceptional as well as the overall experience. We both decided to get the Mani/Pedi Deluxe Combo. Very very good choice I might add. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and then immediately walked to our pedicure chairs. All of the equipment is very well maintained and cleanliness is obviously a top priority. Amazing job! I got a pedicure and a dip manicure with tips. I have short, small nails and a lot of times I feel like it's hard to get a good dip manicure. Other places I've been too have done them to look lumpy, didn't blend the tip with my natural nail, and were clearly in a rush to just get it done and get me out the door. Uptown took their time and made sure that the shape smooth and was exactly what I wanted. I was also their last client of the day and there was bad weather coming, so they easily could have rushed through just to get home. But they took their time and did an amazing job. I arrived at the salon around 9:30 (opening time). I wasn't greeted right away, which surprised me because there were a number of people that appeared to be working. When I was greeted the employee asked me how he could help me, and walked away without saying anything. I started to look up another salon in the area, I found the initial interaction to be very off putting. I got a gel manicure, which was nicely done. My gel mani was $38, which seems pricey to me because I didn't have any gel polish to remove and I typically pay around $30 in other parts of the country. Hands down the worst nail spa I have ever been to. They are rude to you, unless they know you. They never smile, unless they know you. They never greet you when you come in. I only come here because it's close to my apartment. Most times, I drive out of my way to go to another nail salon so I don't have to come in here. I plan to give this place another chance because it is so close to me and I think I just caught them at an off moment. I came in about an hour and a half before closing on a weekday night. All I needed was to have my SNS gel removed from my nails and then a regular manicure, no polish. The guy who worked on my nails was a young guy, probably college or high school age. He did well removing the gel, but he FLEW through the manicure. I know I wasn't getting polish, but a manicure is about a lot more than the polish. He was very rough when trimming my nails and cleaning up my cuticles. Almost to the point where I wanted to pull away.
