I had the absolutely worst food poisoning from this location last two nights. Timeline of events: 9pm Sunday - ate a sushi burrito with the kani salad. 11pm went to bed no problem 4am - extreme nausea and throwing up 6am - still by the toilet and both throwing up and diarrhea 8am - feverish and cold and contemplating going to the ER. Uptown Poke is a great lunch spot. It's clean, cute, and preposterously fast (our bowls came out literally seconds after ordering). Most importantly, the poké bowls are delicious. I opted for the West Side (when in Rome...). It delivered exactly what I was looking for. I felt fresher after eating it. The tuna was tender and flavorful, the veggies were crisp, the sauces and crunchy tempura came together in heavenly flavor and texture harmony. The matcha bubble tea was also delicious, not overly sweet. Much like my tasty salmon, I am hooked. Flavorful and delicious fish! I haven't stumbled upon lots of poke places in Manhattan (maybe because I haven't specifically searched for them), but this one was delicious! The kani salad was a bit too much mayo for me but the portion was pretty sizeable. The bowl was the highlight. I created my own bowl and the fish was plentiful and tasted fresh. Service was nothing stand out. You order your bowl using the menu and they make it in the back. That's the inconvenient part because you can't really see the options laid in front of you, which is different from most poke places I've eaten at. But I decided to give Uptown Poke a shot since it had such great Yelp reviews-- so glad I did! Ordered the "build your own bowl" in a large ($16) with the following combination of ingredients: Tuna, Kani, White Rice, Diced Mango, Cucumber, Pickled Ginger, Shiitake Mushroom, Jalapeño, Wasabi Sauce, Spicy Mayo, Fried Garlic Crisps & Scallions. Such great poke! I had been craving poke for a while and Uptown Poke hit the spot. I would suggest getting one of their signature bowls if you're trying to save a little money $$. Most of them come with two (or even three) types of protein, which if you were building your own bowl, would be a lot more expensive. If you build your own bowl, one protein is $14.99 while two proteins is $17.99. Most of the signature bowls are $14.99 so it's definitely a steal in my opinion. I ordered the Salmon Sunrise bowl, which looked like one of their more popular options. It comes with salmon, tuna, kani, FREE avocado, edamame, and lemon. It is a HEFTY bowl! It also comes drizzled with sweet sauce and spicy mayo. I asked to swap the rice base for mixed greens to feel a little healthier. The mixed greens really make the bowl feel light! All of the ingredients were also insanely fresh, and the sauces mixed so well together. I do think they put a little too much sweet sauce in comparison to the spicy mayo. It almost seemed like 75/25 sweet sauce to spicy mayo when I would have preferred an even 50/50. Other than that, I have absolutely no complaints! I'm not in this area too often, but if I ever am, I'll definitely be popping back in. read more

I ordered the Salmon Sunrise bowl here, and absolutely loved it! The small size is already really filling and kept me going the rest of the afternoon. The salmon, tuna, and crab were fresh and flavorful, and there was a perfect balance of rice, edamame, and seaweed. The avocado serving was very generous! The tempura crunch and spicy mayo really complemented the bowl well, and the lemon garnish brought out the rest of the flavors. Can't wait to be back to try some of their other bowls! One of the better poke places in Manhattan. A two protein bowl costs around $18 but they load your bowl with toppings. I love the build your own bowl option but the specialty bowls seem good as well. I almost wish they gave a bit more rice but it's a great deal for the amount of fish you get. I would pass on the bubble tea. The large bowl comes with a truly astonishing quantity of rice. - I had tuna and yellowtail, and both tasted really fresh! - Our random assortment of topping and sauces all seemed prepared well, and you can have 5 toppings plus 2 crunches, so many of them! Shiitake (the standout, for me), edamame, onions, hijiki, jalapeno (omg too spicy), avocado for $1, nori, garlic crisps... the list goes on. - On the other hand, the "Hawaiian" pineapple bubble tea was extremely confusing! I ordered the Uptown small bowl, which was still a ton of food. I really appreciate the large portion size, as it's a lot of bang for your buck. The bowl had a lot of yellow tail and spicy salmon. The salmon was genuinely spicy, but I wish it was not cut up into tiny pieces and slathered in sauce. That made it lack the fresh taste that I look forward to when eating poke. The toppings really complement each other: the creamy avocado, sweet mango, and crunchy cucumber and edamame went well with the salmon. However the wasabi aioli tasted strongly of Mayo and became a bit overwhelming. I also ordered a matcha tea with boba at 75% sweetness level. I like how you can customize your sweetness and the tea had the perfect amount of sugar. However, I encountered a problem I've never had before: the boba was too thick and kept getting stuck in the straw. My husband had the same issue with his milk tea. I loved the ambiance of this place and am glad to have supported, but I hope to have a better experience with the menu items in the future. I was seriously craving a Poke bowl and this place is in my neighborhood. We ordered a large Yellowtail Supreme bowl and a regular sized West Side. The order was prepared and ready super quick. When we got home it was a bit hard to tell which order was which because the tops were smothered in sauces and the large one wasn't immediately obvious (still not sure what the difference between large and regular is). I might just be very spoiled by Chelsea Markets Fish Market bowls, but this bowl was so wet and sloppy I couldn't eat it. I have eaten my fair share of poke and I was disappointed by what uptown poke had. For the bowl size and the charge for the small bowl to only have one protein was already way overpriced. As for the topping they barely had the correct poke toppings that other poke places usually have so it was hard to create that good flavorful dish. I was thinking to walk out, but decided to give them a try. Overall, Uptown poke provided a generous portion with plenty of fresh fish, but lacked in several key areas. This spot definitely offers fewer and less creative options for toppings. They also may have forgotten to add sauce to my bowl because it was flavorless and dry. The last two times I've ordered from here the avocado has been so unripe that it's inedible. So unripe in fact that it would have been impossible for the person cutting it up to not have realized.
