Came in early on a weekday for a cup of coffee and a quiet place to work, and immediately fell in love with this establishment. It's clear the owners take pride in their business; super friendly service and he brewed a fresh pot of coffee just for me. There is a wonderful homey vibe, I couldn't help but smile as I listened to regulars coming in and exchanging friendly banter with the owner. It's clearly a well-loved place for a good reason. I just moved to the area and have been looking for a good little coffee place to make my home away from home. Based on all the wonderful reviews I decided to check out Uratu today and my experience was not at all satisfactory. There was no wonderful welcoming owner around, just two women who spoke little english and the older one was fairly unfriendly. The place smelled horrible, kind of an acrid burnt smell which ten minutes later was replaced by a horribly over powering pinesol smell. Top top it all off, my chai latte, which cost significantly more than SB and Portos, was horrible! I couldn't drink more than a few sips before throwing it away. I was disappointed on every level which makes me very sad because I really wanted to like this place. read more

This place is a true hidden gem in a busy neighborhood in Glendale. My boyfriend and I came across this cute coffee shop while searching for a good place to study. The owner is very friendly and the service is great. The drinks are good too, they even make suggestions on customizing your drink based on what you would like. I also love that they have good WiFi and don't play their music too loud so you can actually focus on your work. Tried the scones and I am not a fan. I also tried the breakfast sandwich but I'm not really sure you could call it breakfast since there was no eggs involved. It was a ham & cheese on a bagel. Free wi-fi, friendly host, and the best chamomile tea.. ever! You can really just kick off your flip-flops and chill with your laptop here without feeling guilt tripped into buying something every other hour. The host literally makes you feel at home. Super nice and wonderful service. Only thing is they close at 10/10:30pm and they ran out of most of their baked goods when I got there around 8. This place is brilliant! The owner is extremely friendly, the environment is cozy and relaxed, the deco is tasteful. Urartu exudes a mom-and-pop coziness that you don't find in the impersonal juggernauts that are Starbucks or Coffee Bean. It is never packed. Makes Urartu a great place to study. Another subtle advantage: there are many plugs! My laptop and iPad appreciate that very much. There are computers and printers inside the store, in case you need to print out something real quick. Very convenient. The only down side is that Urartu closes earlier than most places... In short: From now on, no Starbucks or Coffee Bean for me, thank you very much! read more

If you're not looking for just another coffee shop, then this your place. You get treated like a VIP every time you're here. The owner, Yuri, is possibly one of the nicest guys on the planet. Some friends and I drove down from SF for the weekend, and found this place. Knowing what a coffee-lover (addict) I was, my friend found this place on yelp by its great reviews. It did NOT disappoint! I got a coffee and my friend got a mocha - we loved our drinks! I take my coffee black, so it's important for me to have a strong blend and great taste, but without the bitterness. I also got the breakfast sandwich and some pastries. Their croissants were delicious. The main reason I am giving 5 stars, though, is the customer service. This place has a cool, relaxed vibe. They didn't mind us sitting there passing the time away, and it is super-cozy. The people there were really friendly and just had an overall positive attitude. Very nice staff. We had house coffee, matcha Latte, waffle, and omelette sandwich. Price was extremely reasonable and the omelette was very generous. Wish the waffle was bigger or maybe even offer two and up the price a bit. It didn't fill up as is. Urartu merits the title "coffee shop/house." Coffee shops are too common, but when you say coffee house, then you get a place with character. I only go for the coffee and a refill. I cannot comment on their specialty drinks or food. Pros: 1. Friendly staff 2. Maryland Avenue (street outside) is off the beaten path, keeps things quiet. 3. Two plush love seats. Don't see those often in coffee shops. 4. Plenty of outlets and power strips. 5. Free and unlimited wifi. 6. Local faces are often there, gives it a community feel. 7. Love the plasma screen flashing NY Times headlines. Cons: 1. Not sure how parking works. I think you get 90 free minutes at garage next door. Not my area of expertise - I'm pedestrian. If you were a fan of PsychoBabble in Los Feliz, when they existed, then you will love Urartu. It is a place where you can sit, enjoy coffee, and loose yourself with a book, paper, or work. read more

We needed a late night caffeine fix for a long drive & this place was open. Coffee was decent. It's a largish place and had free wifi. The tables outside by the front door were filled with smokers. Unfortunately the smoke was filling up the interior of the store so we chose to walk around the neighborhood & drink our caffeine fix. read more

In this 100 degree weather in SoCal, my cousin and I went to the Americana and were in search of something refreshing and cold. I look on Yelp and found this place by accident. My cousin and I got their fruit smoothies here and it didn't taste as great. I can see why this is highly rated. It is a cute coffee shop, with nice decor and couches. There is also free wifi! The man who works here seems very friendly and outgoing. There are also computers if you do not have a smartphone and I am sure it is free to use? Not too sure. I haven't tried their coffee here, but the fruit smoothies were a no-no for us :( read more
