This was a wonderful experience. It's a great way to see many beautiful parts of Boston while having fun cruising around on a bike. I loved riding through the Esplanade, seeing Beacon Hill, the South End, the Christian Science area, and Boston Commons. There's much more as well. I was lucky to ride on a beautiful day in September when the weather was sunny and 70 degrees I agree with the previous reviews and there's not much else for me to add. We took the City Bike Tour. It was a great ride, easy pace, and beautiful views of the city. I believe we could have gone another 2 1/2 hours. If you are uncomfortable on a bike, this might not be the right tour for you. There are frequent stops as well as riding in traffic, but we never felt unsafe. The crew did a great job explaining what we were doing and they did a great job guiding. While in Boston we ended up on four different historical tours and this one was by far the most fun! This isn't some major nationwide travel/tour company. They seems like the mom and pop bike shop that decided to start giving tours and they do an amazing job at it! read more

I love riding bikes and find it to be the best way to see a city. In the past month alone, we've done guided bike tours in San Francisco, Niagara on the Lake and Boston (Urban AdvenTours). We are not avid road cyclists, as I prefer the more leisurely approach on a crusier with a basket and bottle of wine or two! I booked the City View tour through Urban AdvenTours and my husband, who is the very cautious (border line paranoid) one was not happy upon our arrival because of the busy streets in Boston. There were 22 in our group and we had 3 guides. Everyone was personally fitted with a bike & helmet, and a water bottle. This process was very efficient and we were off and riding in no time. Also, each bike comes equipped with a zippered canvas bag (on the handlebars) to safely secure your personal items during the tour. Our guides, Ken, Ralph & Lexi were outstanding! #1...They kept us safe (that made husband happy). #2...They were very knowledgeable about the history of this fantastic city and its many restaurants (we asked for suggestions). #3...They made sure our day was captured in photos (they took many pictures of us along the route- which made me happy). At the end of the tour, my husband exclaimed, This was by far the BEST bike tour we've ever done! We can't wait to come back and try another tour offering through Urban AdvenTours...I'd really like to do the Emerald Necklace or the Bikes at Night tours. I booked this tour last minute and so glad I did. My family of 4 (ages 9, 13) took the Tour de Boston and we had such a fantastic time. Our guides Ken and Tom were great. Kept us interested and safe. Fantastic service, great bikes - decent hybrids rahter than the "city bikes" really sturdy specialized globes, great price of $35 during hte week for 24 hour hire, helmet and lock. Only thing - the saddles are particulary uncomfortable, so wear padded shorts if you have them (or maybe im just a big wimp!) Great chat from the guys and useful info too. I signed up for a yelp fit event thinking it would be nice to get some exercise and ride a bike before it got too hot. This was so much more than that! I've been living in Boston for several years but I love how mobile this tour was and how you go to some unexpected places. Our guides were great-there's one in the front and one bringing up the back making sure the group stays together. They hundred me with my safety questions which they answered very straightforwardly and confidently. Pay attention, stick to your right, and don't try to take a selfie!! I loved that our tour included stops in South Boston. I enjoyed looking out on the harbor spotting Logan Airport, the water treatment plant, a container ship, the harbor islands, Winthrop, etc. This isn't a historical tour necessarily but it's very real. If you want to learn about Boston and how's it's changed and the little things that make this a great place-this is the tour for it! read more

I just did the City Tour on Monday (it's Friday). It was just as great as everyone else said. BUT, I thought $50 was a steal!!! Great guides, great bikes, just great! This. Store. Rocks! Long story short, I was about 2 weeks out of a 200 mile charity ride in the area needed a very solid road bike, and quickly! Not only did they have a stellar Masi Evoluzione Ultegra road bike (super light, super sturdy, and a major upgrade from my personal bike), but they gave me a charity ride discount as well! I was able to pick the bike up first thing in the morning on Friday, get it fitted to the saddle and pedals that I brought from my personal bike, all in about 30 minutes, and they were super friendly and helpful! They also extended the rental discount to my friend who needed a couple new inner tubes for his ride. If you need a bike to rent, or do some cool tours, I would recommend this place. I saw them interact with other customers and they were equally as great with them as they were with me. I had a friend visiting from out of town and figured a bike tour would be a great way to show her some sights. Since she was only visiting for a few days, time was of the essence, and this was a great way to cover a lot of ground in not a lot of time! We got to the shop and they fixed us up with some bikes. The guys are all super nice, and they love bikes and having fun; it's an awesome time just at the shop. Tim was our tour guide, and he was super funny and great about engaging every person on the tour. Not to mention he's the mechanic, so we could rest assured that any potential issues would be taken care of right away. We biked about ten miles, and I barely broke a sweat--and I am not an incredibly active person. Someone could do this tour even if they were a very inexperienced biker. My friend, who had never been to Boston before, LOVED the tour and was so excited about seeing and learning so much about Boston. I on the other hand, have lived in the suburbs of Boston for almost fifteen years, did all of the school field trips my whole life, and I still learned SO MUCH about the city. The tour is like a little stand up comedy show on bikes. Totally recommend seeing the city, see it on a bike, and do it through Urban Adventours. And don't forget to tip your guide!!! read more

This is the go-to place in Boston to get a sweet deal on a newish bike. I really love this place. They demo bikes throughout the year and then sell those bikes at amazing prices at the end of the season. I bought my Kona Caldera mountain bike there this fall. I rented my bike a week earlier to take my stepbrother mountain biking. The manager, Andrew, gave me such an amazing deal on the bike that I came back to buy it a few days later. I can't say enough good things about this place. If you are looking for an almost new bike and want to save a few greenbacks, definitely check this place out. They also have an impressive stock of new bikes, but deals on the demo bikes are too good to pass up. read more

We loved renting bikes from urban adventures. I had four kids with me ages 6 through 12. The guys at Urban Adventures got us hooked up with bikes, helmets and locks really quickly. They were patient as we tried different bike sizes. We are all experienced bikers, which was good because we had to ride with a little Boston traffic (in a bike lane) before getting to the bike path next to the Charles. If you are not comfortable on a bike you might want to do a tour so you don't have to worry about navigating this part. We rode about 5 miles along the Charles to Harvard, really beautiful trail (the Esplinade). The urban adventure guys were very friendly and gave us directions as we headed off to our next stop. What a great way to see the city! We live outside of Boston and come in frequently to the city but we realized on the tour how long it's been since we've seen certain areas of the city! Such a great way to see the sights, learn a little history and get your exercise! Tour guides were both safe and very informative along the ride and were very attentive to all the riders in the group. One rider had a bit of an issue with his tire to which the guides promptly responded to and fixed. A really great time for everyone! Highly recommend! read more

This is by far the best bike rental place I've been to in Boston and beyond. The service was friendly and paid attention to detail. I went on this 2.5 hour bike tour of EVERY AREA OF Boston- South End, Back Bay, Fenway, Beacon Hill, etc. It is just CHOCK full of information and a long ass bike ride! You go over near the USS Constitution as well. The customer service is great- it's easy to get your bike and the people are super friendly and helpful. The bikes themselves are the best! Such a smooth ride- I wish my own bike rode as well! The tour guide really knew his stuff. They had a guide in the front leading the way, and a guide in the back to make sure nobody fell behind. I felt really safe since you are traveling with a large group of people. For 2.5 hours, it's $50. But honestly, if you want to see every part of Boston, this is perfect! You stop at all the areas so you can take photos. I think this is even better than any trolley ride really, because you get exercise and you get to see everything! We went on the city view tour during our weekend in Boston and it was the highlight of our trip. We were in a very large group with mixed riding levels and the guides were great at meeting the needs of strong riders as well as those who haven't been on bikes much. Two cons: a very large group was sometimes challenging, as people struggled to find their riding spot in the pack and guides had to watch to make sure we all got through lights, etc. A smaller group may have been an easier ride with more info from the guides. Second, the seats aren't very comfortable - we're a bit saddle sore! Pros: awesome (very friendly, easy going, familiar with the city) staff and guides, really nice bikes (aside from seats), a great route and distance to ride. We purchased a Boston GoPass which includes free bike rentals. We called ahead of time to schedule our bike rentals and the lady told us to purchase the rentals with them and then show them our GoPasses when we got there and they would refund our money. When we arrived the two boys at the shop refused to give us a refund even after checking with the owner. They said their company policy is for customers with the GoPass to show up in hopes that bikes are available and not already rented out. We were simply doing what their employee told us to do and they would rather keep our money instead of do the right thing. read more

Great healthy way to explore Boston. Got a Groupon deal ($25) for the City View Tour. Staff was nice and helpful in helping me adjust my bike. I had no problems calling to make a reservation. The guide was always checking to make sure all of us were riding around town safely. I'd recommend doing this tour again. However, I wasn't able to take as many photos as I would've liked. I wasn't the faster biker so by the time I caught up with everyone, we were ready to go to the next site. :/ So lesson learned, either come prepared to pedal faster, or ask the guide to give you a little bit of time to snap some pictures at each stop. Otherwise you'll end up with a lot of mental photos like me (that I am already starting to forget 6 months later...) read more

Took the Cambridge tour with our family of 5 including 2 teens/ 1 tween. Everyone had an awesome time. Our guide, Bob, was knowledgeable & safely guided us through the city/obstacles/traffic. Much of this ride was on protected bike paths. Bob also took time to get our bikes fitted correctly before we started. Bikes were very comfortable. I rented a road bike from these guys last week during a trip to Boston. I did not take a tour so I cant speak to that. I had called a week ahead of time to get the pricing scheme and work out the details. When I arrived there was some disconnect in pricing but the owner/manager Andrew cleared it up. Andrew is a witty, understanding and helpful guy-- he gave me recommendations in town, advice on biking in Boston and even gave me lights for safety since it was getting dim outside. They noticed my bike had a worn tire and replaced it without saying anything. The bike itself was smooth and reliable. What a great way to bring a boston terrier to Boston! We were visiting from Ithaca, NY, had checked out of our hotel in Boston, and wanted to do the bike tour before leaving but had no one to watch our dog. Out of desperate measures the staff at Urban Adventours was kind enough to watch Olive, our boston terrier, while my husband and I biked our 2.5 hour tour. Our tour guide was courteous and knowledable, and paced himself for laggers like me. He even told a wonderful story about the Harvard Bridge measurement of length and how it got its name (smoot, smoot!). We enjoyed viewing the city from various angles and riding through special hot spots that only locals would know without dealing with traffic and having to find parking. We would reccommend this bike tour to anyone visiting Boston. Tip: Dress comfortably and do some light leg stretches. My legs were sore the next day from not stretching. read more

If you are driving in the city, you probably realized that directions, even with GPS, can be pretty confusing. A U-turn on the freeway takes 10 miles and several minutes of precious time, specially when you don't have much to spare, like in our case. Besides that, parking is a nightmare. To bike through Boston was a great idea and something I highly recommend, even for those who don't exercise, like me. The tour can be modified depending on what the group is more interested in seeing (arts, history, sports, nature, etc.) Biking for almost 3 hours also allowed me to have extra bread during a well deserved dinner. :-) I really had a great time! read more

Our girls trip of 4 booked the City View Tour this weekend while we were in Boston and it was one of the highlights of my trip! Biking around is my favorite activity when exploring a new city and Urban AdvenTours definitely did not disappoint. Please note that this specific tour has you riding along with Boston traffic at times and briefly weaving around pedestrians so if that makes you nervous, you may want to look at the other tour options they have. Our guides were fantastic -- making sure everyone was safe and no one was missing from our tour group of 16. When they tell you to bring sunscreen, a sports drink and a snack -- definitely listen. While they provide a water bottle for everyone, I must've sucked mine down too quickly and ran out -- although, we were near the end when that happened. And since the sun was blazing down on us -- we definitely had to reapply our sunscreen during the middle of the ride. And of course, we were all pretty hungry at the end of the tour. I think the entire tour lasted around 2 1/2 to 3 hours -- it was a great ride on a beautiful day. Definitely would do another tour with these guys again. I had tons of fun! read more

Did the City View Tour last week with the family (incl 9 and 11 year old kids) and this was the one of the highlights of our visit - first time in Boston and bikes are a great way to see the city. Our guides were knowledgeable, friendly and generally fantastic. Yes, Boston is a walkable city, but we covered a lot more ground on wheels and got some great exercise - a good break from our other 3 days of walking on Freedom Trail and up the steps at Bunker Hill! What a great time! My family and I did the Bike and Brew tour on Sunday and had a blast. We're a bunch of native Bostonians who spent our childhoods walking the Freedom Trail, riding the Duck Boats and basically learning the ins and outs of Boston. So we were looking forward to a bike ride and drinking some frosty brews, but didn't think the tour would stack up. We were wrong. Our tour guide lead us through some of the most beautiful areas of Boston, cycling through the Greenway, heading over to the L Street beach and through Boston's cruise terminal. It was definitely not your run of the mill tourist trip! If you're visiting Boston or a native, Urban AdvenTours offers a unique way to see the city and hit some great spots the other tourist traps won't send you to. For $50.00 you get the bike, a water bottle, a helmet, a nifty pouch on your bike to store your stuff, and a pretty rad tour guide. The ride is leisurely - people of any age or fitness level would be comfortable. It was pretty hot and humid the day we went, but the Bike and Brew tour takes you down Atlantic Ave and by the water, so the cool breezes kept the ride comfortable and exhiliarating at times! The added bonus of a tour of the Harpoon Brewery at the end of the bike ride is a nice treat. The staff at Harpoon is just as friendly and awesome as the Urban AdvenTours staff, plus they give you free beer! If you're visiting Boston, I'd check the Bike and Brew tour out.
