The guy was extemely hard on me and agressive toward me like ive thrown axes twice in my life im sorry i dont know the form. It was only when i was visibly upset and almost cried and left did he back off and change from noticeably agressive toward me to offering constructive critique more neutrally. Ill give you two stars for having a nice facility. Maybe dont judge a book by its cover next time. read more

Heard a lot about it from others so went there with couple of friends. Management was very helpful and friendly. They have couches for all the groups who teach you very nicely. $25 for every hour. Do get your reservations in advance because this place is always booked especially over the weekends. They have a snack and drink bar too. Its really fun and even if you haven't done it before its worth trying! Totally recommend. Right in union square and has a parking lot. read more

If you're looking for a something new for date night or a unique group/team-building activity, look no further than Urban Axes in Somerville! Here's the lowdown: -I suggest making reservations in advance, so that you know that you're guaranteed a lane for your group. It currently costs $25/person for 1 hour of axe-throwing. -You are with a group of six people, and you rotate through in pairs having a chance to throw axes. In my opinion, it's more fun going with a group of 4-6 than just with two people, because then you're spending your off-time watching friends throw, instead of strangers (Or you can befriend whoever you're grouped with. That's cool too.) -I came with a group of four, and I liked that they mixed up the pairs (within our foursome) so that you could go against each person that you knew at least a few times. I loved the friendly competition! -Each lane has a coach, who is there to help show you the ropes and make sure you stay safe. They start by teaching you the two-handed throw, then the one-handed throw, and then you do game-style match-ups for the rest of the time. It was nice to have a couple of throwing options to choose from - our group was split as to folks that enjoyed the one-handed vs. two-handed throw. -Yes, they serve booze (a delicious selection by the way!), but they also are very safety-focused, so drunken tomfoolery won't be tolerated (I mostly just typed that sentence so that I could use the word "tomfoolery.") For the record, I was absolutely awful at the axe-throwing (as in, I didn't hit the target even once), but I'm also the least athletic person ever, so I promise you'll do better than me. The rest of my group fared much better than I did. Regardless, we all had a blast. read more

Coordinated a corporate event for 17 people via their online request form. It was very easy to coordinate and they communicated clearly what we would be receiving. We ordered catering which was more than enough food for the group. Our coaches were phenomenal (including our hype coach aka bartender) which really kept the team engaged. Everyone was so friendly. We came in pretty low energy after a morning full of meetings but the team at Urban Axes really pulled out all the stops to energize the group and ensure everyone had fun! How it works: a coach is assigned to your group and walks you through the safety guidelines and teaches you how to throw an axe. After you guys get the hang of it, your group engages in some friendly competition to see who can score the most points. I love how they put a little bit of a competitive spin to the activity because it definitely makes for a more exciting time. Oh, and if you are as bad as me, don't worry because the coach is super helpful in offering some useful tips on how you can improve... and trust me, you will get better as you keep practicing!! We paid for two hours, though had to go through 'training' twice, which took over 15 minutes of each session. Lots of waiting around on top of that wasted time and out of two hours, we got no more than 40 minutes of actual playing time. A lot of attitude from the receptionist from the very start. read more

What a great experience! We went here as a work event to up the competition after dart throwing together. Maddie made the experience easy and effortless to book. She was always there for any questions and answers. While the idea of throwing an axe can make some uncomfortable, we simply didn't have to worry. Dan and Kyle not only set those worries at bay, but they also made it fun. They were professional and made the team feel safe and like we were capable of being able to toss an axe. While our skill set didn't quite match theirs, they gave us great advice and made us laugh along the way. Several of us became better and believed in ourselves based on their encouragement.
