Tiffany at Urban Gardener provided absolutely dreamy florals to my daughter's bridal shower this past weekend (coordinated by our amazing catering/event planner at Colette's Catering). The arrangements for the welcome table, dining tables and buffet were absolutely stunning and took the breath away of every guest in attendance. We really wanted a certain aesthetic (colorful, slightly wild- with poppies and peonies, and dahlias---and citrus accents) and Urban Gardener far exceeded every expectation I might have had. I hate to be one of those people that complain but I'm pretty angry. My wife just got a very expensive bunch of dead flowers for her birthday and she was not impressed. Having had deliveries in the past, I was Impressed with the quality and design. So for this special occasion, I choose Urban. Called to discuss the design days in advance, to insure I got what I wanted. When the arrangement was delivered, the recipient called to say, the flowers were passed their prime, she was surprised as she also had excellent experience with Urban. Disappointed I called to discuss the quality of the flowers. The conversations didn't go as I would have thought. The first gal assured me the quality of the flowers were good, which was inaccurate and I told her so. She then had me speak with Tiffany, the owner. Tiffany I'm sad to say, gave me attitude. Talk to the employees, he's really friendly and helpful! I was waiting for my hair appointment, and I've never been here during the day time to get my hair done. Seen this little place tucked in the corner, with the most inviting entrance. I had encountered some not so fab florists while shopping for my wedding day...and Tiffany was always calm, responsive, and beyond easy to work with. I've dealt with florists in lots of cities and I know that ordering over the phone for delivery (especially on short notice) can be hit or miss. But since Mama Marie (B. of Chicago) has an interview in LA tomorrow and is staying in Newport Beach, I quickly searched for a reliable local florist. I decided to take a chance that the 2 five star reviews were accurate and called up Urban Gardener. The woman who answered the phone easily took my order and let know their delivery minimum ($50) and fees/taxes. All of this was quite reasonable, considering that 1800Flowers or Proflowers would cost about the same and I'd be at the mercy of FedEx and UPS to actually deliver. She asked if there was a specific color I wanted (pink - inside joke). Took my credit card info and that was that. Now - had I not been mildly (or a little more than mildly) hungover, I probably would have demanded more details - like what flowers, etc. But I left it at that. I just got off the phone with Mama Marie and the flowers are beautiful. I've been emailed a picture and even the grainy picture taken by her blackberry shows that this was a very classy and cute arrangement. They're peonies and roses and I know I couldn't have picked out anything better had I actually picked it out. I wish I had to do more business down in LA - being able to trust someone to be this professional to send your love and happy thoughts is difficult. Urban Gardener was the florist I chose for my wedding flowers at the Muckenthaler. I found them b/c they are on the preferred vendor list. Although it was tough to get Tiffany on the phone to work out the specific details of what I wanted, in the end, I was thrilled with her work. Cons: Not as responsive as I would have hoped. It took months to get a contract signed because they don't use email and their fax machine would break down. Pros: Beautiful work which drew many comments from my guests. My flowers were one of the highlights of my wedding. I paid a not-insignificant amount for my flowers, and I am thrilled with what they gave me. read more

This little shoppe is tucked in the corner behind Haute Cakes Cafe. It has been there forever and it never disappoints. Gift items abound...but none of that cutesy teddy bear stuff. Old apothecary jars, unique holiday decorations and small good candles & soaps. But what I really love are the flowers, not many are out on display but tell the gal what you want and she will put it together. Lovely, compact arrangements in vintage colors. Not a sprig of baby's breath! Can be more $$$ than your typical shop but well worth it! read more

My wedding was a week away when I called Urban Gardener for a bouquet. I had contacted another place the week before, but they never got back to me. UG came highly recommended by a friend, and they told me the weekend before my wedding they could do it. We drove down there, and they have the CUTEST little place. The woman there was sooo nice, taking me to their fridge to ask what flowers I liked, colors I wanted, etc. To be honest I wish I had found them sooner, because I would have wanted them to do center pieces (I did my own to save $$). She told me what flowers she'd choose, and gave me s choice of a smaller bouquet (about $85) or larger ($125 or so). I chose the smaller one because I wanted a smaller bouquet. We then ordered about 5 flowers for the cake, a smaller bouquet for the toss, and delivery was $13. All of this was less than what the other company wanted for the bouquet only! Plus the woman was genuinely nice and helpful. On the day of my wedding, my flowers were due to arrive at 2. I was a little nervous because I was just allowing someone else to put it together for me, but I was SO PLEASED with my bouquet! Not only was the size perfect, but the colors and flowers as well-plus she had added mint to it! I had roses and peonies and dahlias and I was obsessed. Tiffany is the owner and emailed me back right away, and more than made up for the mistake. Excellent customer service. She also did my wedding at the recommendation of my wedding coordinator for the venue, and it was absolutely stunning. She takes artistic risk and does a beautiful job, very unique and sophisticated. We had our wedding on 9/10/11, which was a very busy day. I told her exactly what I wanted and she did it exactly. Urban Gardener did the flowers for my wedding at a church in Santa Ana and a reception at the Muckenthaler. Tiffany did an amazing job bringing my vision to life and the day of the wedding everything was handled perfectly. Tiffany was even able to find stone-looking holders for the flowers at the guest tables which looked elegant and rustic at the same time. They were so much nicer then just glass! And the large arrangements at the ceremony were absolutely stunning! I was just looking though my wedding pictures from last March and decided it was time to give credit where credit is due. The urban gardener was a preferred vendor for our venue at the muckenthaler but I had seen the adorable shop front before while eating/waiting in line at haute cakes. Tiffany was so flexible with my visions and revisions that it made my life easy. I think it's true that she can work with almost any budget. The florals were absolutely gorgeous, even better than I imagined. I loved my bouquet, the bridesmaids bouquets, bouteineers, and centerpieces!! I even added on flowers of the cake at the last minute because I couldn't find the "perfect" cake topper and they were beautiful. Maybe someday I'll quit my job and apply here. The flowers are very nice but not really what I asked for. I asked for a fall arrangement and mentioned that my wife doesn't like roses very much. I expected bolder colors like orange and yellow for fall but got white with roses as the center pieces. Tiffany and her staff are wonderful! My wedding was a Old Hollywood Glamour theme circa 1920s to 1940s and they completely got my vision and the tent felt magical. I was a little worried at first because the first time I saw a mock up was in September when it was still hot and the color hydrangea she used was very pretty but felt summery... then about 2 weeks before the wedding I met with Tiffany and asked if there was any way to make it feel a little more fall without having to change a lot, she suggested antique blue hydrangea. I wasn't able to see a mockup of the Antique Blue before the wedding but I figured just go with it and she was right. The color was perfect and the flowers felt like fall but were not dark. I recently had to send some flowers for a friend's birthday. The minimum was about $50, but with $12 additional for delivery ($62 total). We talked about the arrangement and I had to cross my fingers and hope for the best--that it would come out great for $62. Just in case, I added about $10 more so the flowers would be extra nice, which the florist told me it would most definitely be. She assured me there was no filler, which I thought was great! My friend got them in good time--just about 2-3 hours--so the florist was responsive. However, the bouquet was underwhelming for $77.25 including tax and delivery. Compared to my other experiences with florists, in arrangement and quality/quantity of arrangement, I'd say this should have been 50-60 (at most) including tax/delivery. My friend was shocked to hear how much I had spent. And I was very disappointed as well once I saw the pics, and then the bouquet myself. I wish I could post the pic--but it was primarily two delicate and beautiful peonies, one hydrangea, and a few more flowers. read more
