We just visited there and I wanted a short A line one length hair cut, without washing but it was uneven so we recommended to wash and blow dry to make it even but she cut again and keep cutting again and again and my hair is now is more short and one length hair cut. Anyway she charged $55 without shampoo and shampoo and blow dry $55 !!! She spent so long for basic short one length haircut, one hour and shorter and shorter because she kept cutting uneven. The price supposed to start at $35 according to the price they have on the board but the lady said now is a new year but they didn't change it on the board and is almost February!! I went in asking for face framing layers and long layers, and I left with this awful haircut. When I went in originally she styled it it a way that looked sort of okay, but the following day I realized how horrible it looked. There were no visible long layers in the back and the the "face framing" looked like a blunt, chopped look. I asked if I could have a refund and they denied that and instead said they would "fix" it for free. The pictures I have posted is the end result of the fixed haircut. I told her I was disappointed and she told me I could go back in 2 months when my hair grows out to have another lady who's better at layers to cut my hair! Never going back and now I have to wear my hair up until I can find another salon to fix what they did. I guess I had a bad day yesterday. I decided to do a haircut and found this place. I called them and they said walk In are welcome. Lady on the phone said that hair cut is $45. I came in this place looks fine. Stylist call my name shortly and sit me on the chair. She looked at my hair and said I have a pretty and beautiful hair. She offered me a shampoo ( that I didn't know it will be $5 adds on) . After shampoo she started cut my hair. After I saw what she was doing I just like praying that she could finish my hair soon and I could leave. She doesn't know how to cut hair, especially long one. After haircut she started drying my hair, "styling"thatis not even styling! At the end she gave me a mirror and I was speechless I just want to go home wash my hair and style on my own way. They charged me $65!!! Eventually they charged me $20 extra for shampoo and styling that even hard to say styling, my hair was wet when I sit in my car. I could go to different salon and they could give me a better service. I came home wash my hair, styled and I realized that I just want to buzz my hair. They way how they look its horrible. My hair look very choppy and one side is longer then another one. Its uneven! I called them and they said that I can come and they will fix my hair. I don't want to spend my time and go there again and plus I live 20 min away. I normally never leave any review especially a bad one, but I'm sorry my day was miserable and I have to share my story with other people. We got a pretty bad haircut here and the experience wasn't great either so we won't be coming back. My son has been going to a different barbershop in Juanita with his Dad since he was a toddler and is very cooperative. We decided to try Urban since there was no wait. He sat really still during the appointment but was still left with jagged, uneven hair (see photo). The person cutting his hair was friendly but maybe inexperienced in cutting kids hair? She was pretty rough with repositioning his head and kept letting the trimmed hair fall into his eyes and face. I asked for a specific style and we got something totally different. The cleanliness of the salon was also not impressive, I noticed the entire windowsill was covered in old hair trimmings. Maybe this place does better adult cuts but we'll stick with the other barbershop. read more

I had been here before and it's been fine but I must have gotten a different person this time. I was there around 2 pm on July 3rd. I wanted a quick trim because I was going out of town for a wedding for the weekend of the 4th. I am beyond pissed off with how a simple trim got completely screwed up. I'm now in a different state and can't do anything about my hair before the wedding. It's entirely uneven all around. She didn't even try to match my part so when I part it correctly, there are big chunks that are obviously longer than the rest of my hair. It also seemed pretty obviously she had never cut thick hair before or had no idea what she was doing. I've never been more annoyed by a haircut because now I have to go find someone to fix it. Worst haircut ever in my whole entire life. After my hair was done, Gloria gave me the mirror and I was speechless and I didn't say anything cause I didn't want to make the girl feel bad.. After I paid $25 for a hair cut I did not like. I came home and my day went miserable, I have never felt so overwhelmed in my whole entire life. Especially when it comes to my hair. I'm litterly crying on the outside and inside!!!!!!! I don't even want to come out of my house!! I can't sleep right because all I can think about it my uneven hair. A mediocre experience. I walked by this place a couple times and was always enticed by the inexpensive $25 women's cut price tag, but at the same time hesitant stepping inside because the business was /always/ empty when I walked by. But I finally decided to give this place a try. I walk in, the shop is empty (as usual). I see a woman sitting on a seat, I assume she is a customer because she's on her phone. When she notices me she stands up and says welcome. I understand being bored at work and browsing electronics, but right in the open? Or at least, not behind the front desk? I awkwardly request a haircut, she asks me to sit, and we begin our consultation. I ask for a basic trim, more layers, etc. She understands my requests and goes at my hair. However, she never bothered introducing her name. Or asking for my own. I know this won't be an issue for some, but I personally like to experience basic introductions with hair stylists. Eventually I discovered her name is Gloria by casually looking at her work station. Noticed her certificate. Before she begins cutting my hair she dampens it, a lot, with a spray bottle and begins cutting. We don't talk during the cut, which I don't mind. I like quiet hair cuts. When she finishes she blow dries my hair because it's still very wet from the spritzing session earlier. But then she abruptly stops and says we're done. My hair is still wet, only 40% dried. I learn for a full "style" I have to pay $10 more. So... in order to expect your hair to be 100% dried, more money is necessary. I didn't want to cough out the extra $10 because I had nowhere special to go afterwards. Gloria did a good job cutting my hair. She followed my requests well. However, because of the lack of personality from both the stylist and environment of the salon I probably won't be returning. Plus, I prefer to have my hair dried included with the cut. Didn't think a simple blow dry would be considered as a "style." Would I recommend to a friend? Yes, for those who wanted a basic spiffer-upper at an affordable price. read more

This may be the nicest haircut I've ever had. Granted I almost always get my hair cut at Great Clips or Fantastic Sam's, but that statement does include a couple of higher end salons that I tried. For the price, you won't beat it. It is a little more expensive than going to the big chains, but the quality of the haircut was definitely worth the price. Sonia was my stylist and she was very friendly and very thorough. Gave me a beautiful short pixie style cut (but with longer bangs). Very nicely done. Haircut took a while, but that was because she took the time to actually shape my hair to frame my face. I'm not used to that. Shop itself is very clean and modern. They were completely empty when I went in so I hope they pick up more business. Currently, for me, the location is fantastic. It is a short 5 minute walk. Of course, my address is temporary and that makes me sad that I will be moving away. But the haircut and price are good enough that I may make the eventual trek for a decent haircut every time I need one. read more

I visited Urban Salon on Friday, August 13th to get a haircut and full highlights from the stylist Mary that I have used for more than 10 years. I feel that I was betrayed by the charge that was much more than from what I was quoted by phone. My stylist didn't notify me that prices had gone up, but I felt that it went up unreasonably. When I asked the manager how she got to that price, I found out that $35 were added as a styling fee, which always used to be included when you receive a haircut. Also, the highlights went up from $120 to $160. I have been a very loyal customer and followed my stylist to every salon she went. I specifically asked for long layers and now I'm stuck with a cut I hate and can do nothing but wait for it to grow out. I've been going to Urban Haircuts since I came back to Kirkland. It's been over a year now and I don't go anywhere else. Everyone is friendly whenever I walk into the clinic. There's always easy-going music playing and the atmosphere of the salon is great. I get my haircut from Mila, the owner. She remembers what type of haircut I get and always makes suggestions and advice on how to style my hair. She is so enjoyable to talk to. We always have on-going conversations that pick up from where we left off last time. She is also a great listener. It makes me feel like a valued customer because she remembers what's going on in my life and brings it up to conversation and asks me more about it every time I come in. She doesn't just care about my hair, but what's happening in my life currently! All the other stylists also seem to have a great time with their customers. I have been searching for a new salon/stylist here on the eastside for convenience reasons. I normally would get my hair done in Edmonds. I was excited to be able to call and get in same day so when I arrived, the first thing I noticed was how dirty and unkept the salon was. The stylist that I was seeing was Heidi and when she acknowledged me, she went to her station and cleaned everything up before bringing me over there but it was filthy. I washed my hair prior to coming in so didn't need a shampoo, so prior to starting the haircut, I showed her a picture of exactly what I wanted, which was a shoulder-lenth long-layered cut. She was very thorough in her technique but kept trying to match the sides which unfortunately ended up taking the cut below my ears instead of at shoulder. This was very disappointing to me because I was in the process of growing my hair out and now I have to start over :/ I wish my experience was better because I don't like going to salons or finding new stylists for this exact reason. read more

I'm going to be honest - every time I've walked by Urban Haircuts and saw it dead, I had a slight concern about giving them my business since I figured they'd likely go out of business soon when there were already a few other hair stylists and barber shops in walking distance from my apartment. Originally, when I went there, I had intended to go to The Shop after my husband hyped them up for me. He had told me The Shop was walk-in only. Whether or not that's true, I have no idea, but when I walked in and had not one person, not two, but three people go ahead of me who had called in apparently after I'd sat there for 30 minutes, I decided I was clearly doing it wrong and decided to cross my name off their waitlist and walk over to Urban Haircuts instead. Since they were usually dead, I figured there wouldn't be any wait time, and I was correct. Their price for a haircut for women is $25, and it's another $10 to add styling on top of that, which I went for after how meticulous Sania (Sonia?) was with my head. I have never had someone spend so much attention to perfecting my hair before, and that's including my haircuts as a child where you'd think my mom would give me a little more TLC in that department. I had a slight idea of what I wanted (grow my bangs out, trim up so it's styled again, layers), and she took my vague description and made my hair a work of art. The layers in the back were so perfectly done that as soon as I got home my dear husband spent the rest of the evening and next day telling me how good it looked and touching it repeatedly. And who doesn't love husband compliments? So haircut? Amazing. The styling was also beautifully done. She managed to curl my hair with a blow dryer and a brush, which was really cool to watch, and she used minimal products like I asked, and the ones she did used smelled heavenly rather than deadly. Unfortunately, I took a nap on it afterward, so my enjoyment of the beautiful styling was short lived! Now service. You know sometimes when you're at a salon you're good for small talk? But then your anti-social ways kick in and really you'd just like a nap while someone chops off these weird fibers growing out of your head in an ornate fashion? Sania somehow intrinsically knew when it was chatty time and knew when the anti-social kicked in, which was incredibly nice. She also managed to engage with a customer who came in part way through my cut and make sure she had everything she needed while waiting (water, magazines, the usual) but avoided making me feel rushed at all. The salon itself is very clean, new, modern. Only complaints I'd have is the chair where you get your hair washed is a little awkwardly shaped for leaning back in to do said hairwashing, and the music is too loud. But that just might be because I'm getting older. Music selection was great though, so no complaints there! read more

The haircut is under $20.00 for a mens cut which does not include a shampoo. It is a much better experience then Great Clips, which charges a similar price and the quality of the cut is much better. I came into this store and got a buzz cut. I got a 4 on the sides and a 6 on top. I was pleased with the cut a first but soon after the person who was cutting my hair finished I asked if she could "line my hairline up" the hair dresser seemed confused by this and I regret asking her because she did a poor job after I explained what I meant. My biggest issue was that I never got to see the back of my head and forgot to ask before I left. When I got home I found that the back was very uneven and not straight at all (see picture). I told her to just make it look "civilized" and she did an amazing job knowing exactly what I was talking about. Brooke took the time to measure and clip my hair so it was sitting exactly as she wanted it before taking a pair of scissors to it. Once I find someone, and train them, I'm good for the duration. The issue at hand is what seems to happen along the way. Several years ago, I was in a committed keratinous relationship. She was the mom of my son's best friend and I could opt for whichever salon she worked at, beauty schools, or her home studio. She cut my hair through the elementary school years, through high school and beyond. Then, tragically, she was killed by a drunk driver. Beyond the terrible personal loss, I was in quite a quandary in my search for someone to trust with my hair! I would sometimes go 2 months between cuts, simply because I couldn't find the kind of relationship I had experienced previously. Then I happened on a terrific lady in Wallingford, and stuck with her for a year or 2 until she got married and had a baby! The nerve! Then it was trips home to Vietnam .. The search began again.. And I happened on a little salon in Kirkland from a referral. Another wonderful Vietnamese lady who was meticulous. I really enjoyed and appreciated her style. Then it happened again! I called for an appointment and heard a message that the place was going to become a beauty school, reopening in a month! I left messages asking for contact info for Tina.. With no responses. This was getting really ridiculous. Finally, after Kathleen kept remarking that my hair was decidedly out of control, I made a desperate move. Driving down the road in Juanita, I asked Siri for a nearby barber with good reviews. I'm not a big fan/user of Siri. I recently got an iPhone, so it was a pretty unusual move for me. She immediately came up with Urban Haircuts and the rest is history. I called, they guided me in and even waved at me as I looked for the place. To top it all off, I got a great haircut! I really don't want to have to do this searching thing again. I was assured that the place is permanent. I gave the owner my card with instructions to inform me of any moves or changes. Let's hope this is the last time you'll here from me about this issue! ******UPDATE April 2017 ******* Well.. Times change. Mila, the owner/stylist stood me up again today. Again, you ask? Yup, last haircut, she failed to show because of an "emergency".. ok.. I can understand that emergencies happen. They do have my telephone number and could have called... but I cut her some slack. This morning, I called in to make an appointment, was told Mila would be in at 2.. Super.. so we set it up. Well, you no doubt have figured out where this is going. After a call to her husband, they informed me "she's on her way." I know for a fact that they live nearby. Well, at 2:15, with no call, I called it off. He didn't lob off more than I expected which is great. - Nice consult and pricing validation before getting started - Appreciated that I could walk in without an appointment. - Salon was bright, airy and had ample parking out front. Thumbs down - They don't honor the $20 off check in deal for new customers. Fine, but don't have it on your Yelp page then - Had my roots colored and a lot of dye was left on my hairline and colored my skin. Adam was reluctant to wipe it off with chemicals, which I get, but I wish more care was applied to watching for drips and wiping off excess. I had to point out the discoloration and request him to address it. After some scrubbing, he told me it wasn't bad, there's not much more he could do, and don't pull my hair behind my ears. - The stations could have been cleaner. Felt messy and I noticed some of the hairbrushes were not in solution and had other peoples hair in it. Eww. Updated review: Came home and discovered that there is a ton of black dye on the back of my cardigan, especially around the neck. Time to toss it now.
