I have to say this is and always has been a favorite little spot of mine. I needed a massage. Seriously, I had been trying to mend a sore muscle in my back and neck for a couple of weeks. I threw in the towel and went for help. A girl knows when it's time to get a professional involved. I called and was surprised that I was lucky to have found an appointment that someone had just cancelled. Angel to the rescue. She did her magic on my back neck and shoulders. I visited Urban Nirvana today for the Deluxe Hydra facial. I relaxed in the relaxation room while I waited for Michelle. It was wonderful. Hot tea, water and snacks were available to enjoy while you wait. Michelle was amazing. The Deluxe hydra facial was just what I needed. Check in and check-out is very easy. They sell facial and body products, clothing, jewelry, candles and CBD gummies. Very cute shop. Parking is limited in front of the salon, but you can park in the Earth Fare plaza across the street. Scheduling appointments is easy to do online. I recommend Urban Nirvana and would come back again. read more

I booked a 90-minute hot stone massage at Urban Nirvana nearly 3 weeks in advance because I am currently dealing with an extremely painful court case involving the death of my sibling. I intentionally planned a very difficult day carefully, including this massage and a movie afterward, as a form of self-care and emotional support. A few hours after booking, I received a text asking if I could come earlier. I politely explained that I could not because I would be at work. Then I was asked if I could come later. Again, I said no. She responded with "it would be great if you could come in at (the time I told her I would be at work). I again said no. Instead of respecting my schedule, I was told they were trying to "maximize the therapist's schedule" and told me she wanted me to compromise. Mind you, I selected from the available appointment times THEY offered. After repeatedly being pressured to rearrange my day, I became frustrated and finally said, "Why don't you just cancel me then?" Within seconds, I received a cancellation text. No apology. No concern. No attempt to retain a client of 16 years. No acknowledgment whatsoever. I even followed up explaining that this was an especially sensitive day for me and why I was upset. Still no response. I have been a loyal client of Urban Nirvana for 16 years. I have purchased massages there for family members countless times when they visited Charleston. Apparently customer loyalty and compassion mean very little there. What upset me most was not even the cancellation itself -- it was how disposable I was made to feel during one of the hardest periods of my life. I will never return. read more

I had an appointment at 6pm. Since there was a wreck, there was a lot of traffic and I called to say I was running 10-15 mins late. The girl on the phone told me "no problem, see you soon!". I then, showed up at 6:13pm and was turned away because "they need an hour for a haircut".. but there is an option on the website to schedule a haircut appointment at 6:15pm (thats only 45 min and its the time I showed up). I would not recommend this place. They don't honor appointments that were made in advance. I will not be going back. read more

I cannot say enough great things about Urban Nirvana. I was a bit nervous about getting a Brazilian wax, but the team there has made me feel super comfortable and relaxed. Tina, in particular, has been amazing. She does an amazing job and distracts me from the discomfort, making the whole experience much more enjoyable. Tina takes the time to work with each client to make sure they have a comfortable and fun time. She's also really friendly and brings a great energy to the room. She makes what is usually an uncomfortable experience something we look forward to, and I often find myself laughing. Love love love! Urban Nirvana is the spa spot in Charleston. Booked my appointment online - wanted to book a 90 mins session but the weekend it was a little hard to do so unless I book a month out. Parking could be a little crazy in the weekend but if needed the EarthFare parking space is pretty close walk The storefront had promotional items (there was this really really soft PJ on sale the day I was there!). Walking in was greeted by a really nice receptionist, the store smells amazing. Was asked if I wanted to change into a rob or wait at the waiting room for my theraphist. I chose the rob option! :D Was lead to a locker room put on my rob was. So soft an comfy. Headed to a waiting area... with a mgazines and lemon water. Waited for a sec, and my therapist Hollie came to greet me. The massage bed was heated(LOVE!). Hollie did an amazing job. I forgot the technique she mentioned but it was very pressure-point-based, and we only had time for the first half of the body. Iw as sore for the day haha but good kind of sore. I've been a fan for a decade since moving here, but I've just never been a regular due having had an at home massage therapist. But every time I've treated myself to a massage or facial, or even a blowout at the salon, I've had a great experience... Really amazing customer service and great spa services. I always feel especially great coming out because it's a world of beautiful people there and I tend to feel a little awkward walking in and then I'm treated fabulously. I had the absolute best experience today! I felt I absolutely had to get a massage today and called on the off chance of availability. While there was not availability, the receptionist immediately started looking for a solution. She found a half hour spot that she offered me even though it wasn't the full hour I was seeking, but the time didn't work for me. She then offered to put me on the waitlist just in case someone cancelled. A few hours later I got a call, there had been a cancellation and I was offered the spot as well as flexibility on my arrival time since I wasn't right around the corner. I had an amazing massage with Hermès and his talent and skill and training were top-notch. So glad that I was not only lucky enough to have a last-minute opening but to be with this therapist. I've had several massages in my life, but yesterday's massage with ANTHONY was without a doubt the most incredible treatment I've ever experienced. All I can say is, he has the most healing touch. Instead of just having a physical massage, it was a spiritual experience. I veered from my main stylist as it was a time crunch for a last minute vacation to get in and UN could. Ashley was the assigned stylist. How could she mess up toner? Well the stylist did, and my hair came out a completely different color (darker) than what was asked for. After further review with my normal stylist and 3 fix up appoints, almost $800 later in costs, she finally cut through the Demi dye that was used IN LIEU of requested toner. I'm never coming back and neither should you if you spend good money for perfect blonde. Not even for toner. read more

Ahh who doesn't love a spa day at Urban Nirvana? I have been coming to this location since I was in high school, and they've always been on point! I recently was home visiting my mom for the weekend. We set up appointments for 60 minute massages, and it was exactly what I needed to de stress and relax! I love the ambiance here. You walk in to a trendy spa and gift shop, but if you have a spa appointment, they take you into the back where it is dark, but modern and tranquil. Their changing room is equipped with robes and shoes, and they have really nice lockers to keep your stuff secure. Their lounge area has fresh fruit-infused water and little crunchy snacks. But of course the best part was the massage! My masseuse was Brittany. She was great! She asked me all the standard questions of why I needed a massage, what areas needed extra attention, and what areas to avoid. Her experience to achieve results in one massage that might take others many more is amazing and a life saver for me. Too short, I kindly asked the woman who was cutting my hair to take nothing off the top because I like it long, and she cut 2 inches off the front after being told this. If you want a hair cut here ask them NOT to blend it because it will be cut far to short where it doesn't need to be. read more

She gave me lots of great advice, none of which included pricey store brands (for instance, she recommended using Jergens with Aloe as an everyday moisturizer). I appreciated the honesty. She even threw in a free microderm abrasion treatment (guess I needed it!). As a first-time client, I didn't expect to get naked and climb into a heated blanket bed for a facial, but found it extremely relaxing. Nice touch: cucumber water in the waiting room. This was my first visit to the Charleston Urban Nirvana (although I've been to other locations many times for eyebrow waxes) and my first facial. I was paired with the lovely Courtney, who is also a Connecticut native, so we bonded immediately. Some of my favorite things about Urban Nirvana are: - the spa is separated from the shop by a large, speakeasy-esque door. You feel like you're part of a secret society when you're ushered into the waiting room. - the peaceful quiet music playing in the waiting room and spa rooms. - the soothing smells. - the cucumber water and variety of reading material. - the fact that everyone seems genuinely pleasant and relaxed. It's a little pricey, although you're really getting much more than you pay for. I wish they were up in CT so I could go more often. read more

Pretty Bad customer service. First time I went to this salon was just to cover my roots. I had moved from Miami to Charleston and needed to find a stylist to help me out. I was platinum blonde and only needed to cover my roots which were light brown. After my consultation, I finally went to my appointment.. Little I knew I'd leave the place with my hair messed up in the worst way.. My hair was stained all over with dark spots. Had to fly back to miami so I could fix what Kelsey had done. Recently I had a baby, and on Christmas eve I decided to give this place a second chance. I wanted a partial highlights and I scheduled my appt with time in advance with Ryan, a different stylist. I didn't like the result at all. I wanted to go lighter and made myself clear before we started the process. Long story short, I ended up with a few highlights almost the same color as my roots. Worst part was, when the lady (Ryan) literally told me that she was done with me, and "She couldn't finish my hair and do my blowout because her next appt was already there..." I mean.... HOW IS THAT MY PROBLEM? I made my appt, I showed up at the time they told me to be there, and I was paying for the service, just like everyone else. But for this lady, apparently I was worth less than her next client. I was so sad. It's pretty hard for me to find someone to babysit my 2 months old, and since I had an appt, i was hoping to spend mi night with my hair looking pretty. Didn't happen. Shame on you Ryan. read more

I have seen Jessa twice at the North Charleston location for a facial, and I have never had a better experience! She takes the time to truly evaluate your skin and teach you about it. She also spends time recommending what types of facials/products would benefit your skin based upon your goals. When I go to see Jessa, I feel relaxed, pampered, and well taken care of. In just two visits, I have seen dramatic improvements in my skin. I am much more hydrated and not as rosy. This is my first time coming here and it was very pleasant visit. I had an hour massage the gentleman that gave me the massage was professional and gave me one of the best experience at spa ever. The changing area was clean and with a Secure locker for my clothing I started feeling relaxed then I moved into the waiting area where they had cold cold iced water with oranges in it and another pitcher with a different fruit in It but I don't remember what it was. Very enjoyable experience! I had received a gift certificate via email and had been meaning to call for an appointment for a while. I realized I had an open afternoon and called to see if they by chance had any openings and they did! They asked if I had a preference of male vs. female therapists and I didn't. When I arrived, I walked through the gift shop to the counter. I was greeted pleasantly and shown the waiting room. There are two options, either change into a robe and slippers in the dressing room and store clothes in the lockers or just wear clothes into the massage room and undress there. The locker room is beautiful with two toilets, a shower, lockers, and the sinks with mirrors and a counter for getting ready with complimentary items like a hairdryer. The waiting room is dimly lit, a long couch and a few plush chairs line the sides, pitchers of both regular ice water and orange infused were available, as well as little cups and a fancy jar of Chex mix with a serving spoon. I waited patiently and was greeted enthusiastically by my therapist Eric. He was professional and very calming and comforting. I enjoyed the massage tremendously and look forward to my next massage! read more

Save your time and money. Not sure why this has so many stars, but my 90 minute massage was a half gallon of oil being poured on me and then lightly touched without much intention. I was enchanted when we walked in because the building is historic and they set the scene well, but the service, professionalism, and experience just isn't there on the massage side. My friend had a facial which he said was exceptional, but his massage, which was with a different therapist was also just oil without intention. He said that If he could give the facial a 5 he would but everything else is barely a 3. I could go on, but I wish someone would've written this in a review before I invested our time on our yearly Charleston trip, so here's your warning. read more

Brent at urban nirvana spa was great! I got a Shea cocoa butter body scrub (1/2 hour) and felt amazing afterwards. He was very patient and calming, not talking too much, but enough to make me comfortable and take my mind off of everyday life for a bit. This was my first time at the spa and to be honest I had no idea it was a store front with the spa through a door and in the back. I walked in to the store and then back out thinking I was in the wrong place at first! It was such a treat once I was back there though, it's so quiet and calm and everything smells good. The services are pricey, I don't think I will go back unless I get a gift certificate or set aside some extra money for pampering. That makes gift certificates great gifts though! Robbery I came in with box color hair and wanted traditional highlights, which I had on and off for 15 years. The stylist talked me into going back to my normal color and balayage. My over the phone quote of $85 turned to $160, with tip. Yes I had my my hair "processed;" but it looked like little was done, and my friends including a stylist said they could notice a change. When I was asked for feedback, they reluctantly had me come back in to address it. Again he gave me balayage!!! I tried to explain as someone who had highlight foils, this is not the look I was going for. Stylist said he didn't do foils anyways. When I was checking out, I tried to tell the girl they need to disclose stylist's limitations to patrons. She argued with me and blamed me for accepting an over the phone quote; she also said he DOES do foils and has seen him do so. After I tipped him again, making my total $175 I was pissed. I got lied to and now I am repaying to have my hair done the way I want. read more
