Finally got to try this place as it opened up with the plaza here. Food/vibe reminds me of a jacks urban eats. Came on a weekday evening and it wasn't too busy. You can order from the kiosk or from the cashier when you walk in. Food itself was really good. The chicken and Brussels had a good flavor and I really liked my shrimp dish. You get to choose two sides with your entree. It's a self seating arrangement with a condiment station and a water tank that's shaped like a giant jug with a sink. Really cool design. Thought the portion size was a little small but it was okay. The parking can be a nightmare since there's so many stores in the plaza and not enough spaces. Urban Plates offers quick, reasonably priced, healthy food with high quality ingredients (i.e., organic, cage-free, grass-fed). It's part of The Davis Collection, the remodeled shopping plaza with Trader Joe's, Ulta Beauty, PetSmart, and Nordstrom Rack on Russell Blvd. Urban Plates opened on October 20, 2025. Spacious, nicely appointed dining room. The restaurant reminded me of Jack's Urban Eats. There's an EAT GOOD neon sign with a bicycle mounted on the wall. The wheels of the bicycle form the double O's. Davis is known as a bicycling community. You order in front from an employee or using a self-service kiosk. You grab a number and seat yourself. Staff will bring food to your table. I ordered Chimichurri Grass Fed Steak Plate with Sesame Broccolini and Herb Roasted Marble Potatoes. Except for the dry piece of grilled bread, everything was cooked properly. You don't even have to specify your desired doneness for the steak: It just comes out perfectly cooked. However, I didn't like the seasoning for any of my plate items, so next time, I would order everything plain. I would skip the $1 Chimichurri Sauce upgrade. I would order the Simply Steamed Broccolini because the sesame oil was too dominant a flavor. The Herb Roasted Marble Potatoes had too much salt and too strong of herbs on the outside of the potatoes. If you cut the potatoes up and mix them around, that helps to balance the seasonings. I liked that the potatoes were multicolored. Menu is appealing. There should be something for everyone. Make sure to check out the weekly Chef Spotlight specials menu. Urban Plates? More like Urban Greats! First of all... the chili glazed tofu is absolutely on point. Whoever came up with that recipe deserves a raise... and maybe a trophy. And let's talk about the strawberry basil lemonade... ohhhh weee! That drink is so refreshing it felt like summer and a tropical vacation had a baby. Sweet, crisp, with that perfect hint of basil--I would've happily ordered another before I even finished the first one. The Davis location is in a fantastic spot downtown, and the atmosphere was exactly my kind of place. It has this bright, open, greenhouse-style vibe that makes you want to relax, stay awhile, and pretend you're healthier than you actually are. The staff? Absolutely wonderful. They welcomed us like we were regulars who'd been coming there for years. A special shout-out to Nikki and Luis for their incredible customer service! Wow!! Such a cool place to check out. We came here for my mom's birthday dinner and this place did NOT disappoint. So many food options on the menu, the food comes out super fast and taste so fresh and flavorful, and it's plated so beautifully, like a fancy restaurant. The ambiance is super chill and low key, the music is spot on, it's just perfect. And the staff, they are all super friendly, they welcomed us immediately as we walked in. Brooklyn and India deserved to be recognized as they were very friendly and welcoming. There was another staff member staff who brought us out our drinks but we didn't catch her name but she was also super helpful, We used the kiosk to order which is nice too. I am so glad I tried this place. I've heard friends say positive things before but it really surprised me how good the place was. You pick and main item and two side items. The had a good variety of selections for the side items. The Chimichurri Steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The beet salad was refreshing. And those Truffle fries were excellent! I was surprised about the generous portions given the price. It was very affordable for high quality food. Semi casual spot. You order at the counter, they give you a numbered placard and then they deliver the food to you. My only complaint is the parking. 5/09 - stopped in for one of the hyped chicken items - the chicken breast club sandwich. UGH - for how awesome the osso bucco is, the chicken dishes are a dismal failure - I've already dogged the dark meat dinner at the Sacramento location - so let's talk about that club sandwich from Davis. The chicken was bits and chunks of chicken, so they didn't play well in a sandwich - they slid all around - and to top if off, all the skin bits and gnarly fatty bits were still attached - on breast meat FCOL! I had a really disappointing experience here. I placed my order at the kiosk and selected it to go, but apparently there was some kind of technical issue and the order came through as dine-in. Instead of simply fixing the mistake or handing me the food to go, the staff took the time to condescendingly explain to me that "for next time," if I receive a number, that means my order is for here. I understood what they were saying, but the attitude and lecture were completely unnecessary considering I had already selected "to go" at the kiosk. A simple "Sorry about that, we'll package it to go for you" would have been more than enough. There was no reason to make me feel like I had done something wrong over what appeared to be a kiosk error. Customer service is about how you handle small problems, and this interaction left a really bad impression. We sat in the patio outside. it was nice and quiet considering that's its next to one of the main roads in davis. The service style is the one where you order at the front first, then they give you a table flag and bring the food out to you. You also handle things like water, condiments, and utensils yourself. The roast chicken was pretty decent. Nothing crazy, but good. The caesar salad was good too, and overall the food felt fresh and healthy. The fries were fine, felt like they were battered or at the least seasoned One interesting thing is that they rotate specials through the menu every week encouraging you to try something new Overall, it was a solid experience. We saw this restaurant reviewed on Instagram and we finally made it to eat! It was nice and clean. We walked in and ended up ordering at the kiosk. The menu is very extensive! I ended up ordering the steak salad and my friend ordered the siren turf plate. I looked at the fries avg they looked so yummy, so I ordered a side of fries. We grabbed our table sign (mine was my HS graduation year) and sat down at a bar-height table with comfy chairs. The restaurant was pretty busy while we were there, but it only took about 10 minutes for our food to arrive. His plate arrived first (Surf 'n Turf) and it looked yummy. We should have put our meals on the same number since my food came out about 5 minutes after his did. He started eating since his was hot and I didn't want it to get cold. My fries came out next and I was disappointed. The images on the kiosk made them look like they would be very well seasoned. It did not look seasoned at all when they arrived. They were nice and hot, but my friend said they tasted "like a potato". Nothing to write home about. I didn't even end up eating too many and I don't often leave food behind! My salad came out and it looked amazing! I ordered the steak well done since it was the only other option. Surprisingly the meat was still very tender and not dry at all. There was a hint of mint in the salad and that was a very refreshing addition. I liked the mango salsa and added crunch of nuts, but I got most of it at the end of the salad. We stayed until 9:30 and at one point the lights dimmed so we took that as our sign it was time to leave. Overall, our meals were good, but I probably won't put this restaurant on a regular rotation. I paid $30 for a salad and fries and I left some fries on the plate. It reminds me of a higher-end Panera. The vibe was nice and I did really like the layout and design, though. read more

Stopped by here on a whim during a road trip. Ordered online to go - the chicken Cobb salad fresh and filling - decent portion size. I would order it again. Some observations: for a chain restaurant, I like that they emphasize no additives or preservatives. There was a large water dispenser with cups available. Very busy, lots of people waiting to order and also seated. I noticed the all gender restroom was clean, spacious, and they even had this cool rubberized mat around the toilet bowl that catches any fluids, rather than it ending up on the floor. It was well stocked and I like that there was a Koala Kare changing station - very family friendly! There are about 3-4 solo restrooms, which is nice for a change (as opposed to multiple stalls). They partner with Plate Pass, a paid membership program which gives you discounts and and dining credit. Overall, happy with the food quality and ambiance. I would definitely return. read more

This is my new go to stop for low calorie healthy meals. You can easily get a plate that's only 600-1000 calories that still has big flavor. They know how to maximize flavor in their dishes without just adding excess amounts of fat/sugar. Surf and turf: A Shrimp has this delicious garlic butter. Grass fed beef steak is so tender that you eat it with a butter knife. And it's marinated quite nicely as the center of the meat is not bland at all. Sea bass: B This was a to go order and I will say the fish was good. Food definitely is better served hot dining in. I originally was quite excited to try out Urban Plates when they opened in October but was a bit disappointed with my experience. Even though we ordered both our dishes at the same time, the steak had come out first and the bowl around 15-20 minutes later, after we had inquired about its progress with a staff member. By that time, we had already finished with the first dish as we didn't want it to get cold. Although we found the brussel sprouts to be quite yummy and the french fries well seasoned, the meat was a bit tough and the portion itself felt a bit small. When our second dish finally came, I felt that the bowl was missing something that would make the taste more well-rounded and cohesive. The miso dressing was a bit strong for me so I think I might have enjoyed another dish. Our second dish was missing the bread so we had asked one of staff if we could get it but after 10 minutes, they hadn't come back. So, we asked another staff if we could just have it to-go. We might have just had less than desirable service because they had just opened up which could be expected. read more

A friend and I had lunch at Urban Plates on a Thursday. I knew parking would be an issue so we arrived around 11:30 a.m. and took the first space we could find in front of PetSmart and walked to the restaurant. Looking over the main parking lot there were just a couple of regular spaces. The restaurant was uncrowded when we arrived. You are greeted with two big electronic kiosks at the entry to order without human intervention if you so wish. Utensils and order number signs are located there. We chose to interact with a human and Arlett was happy to take our order at the counter to the left of the entryway. Once my order was taken I was given a number sign to take to a table and directed to take utensils and napkins from the counter. The water dispenser is located against a window on the other side of the restaurant, where one can get more napkins and utensils. There is no shortage of opportunities to get a knife and fork and napkins. There are several tables for two and some for four. There is also a long table that people were sharing. Both of our Mediterranean Chicken Bowls were delivered to our table after a short wait. The food was delicious and the portion size was good. I was able to take home about half of my plate. My friend ate all of hers. There was a 3% surcharge on my bill. Looking at their menu online there was a footnote: "** to offset the cost of CA mandated benefits, a 3% surcharge is added." I do not know of any other local restaurants doing that, though I understand it is common in Los Angeles and San Francisco. They have an extensive menu and many other dishes sound very tempting. The parking issue concerns me. My friends agree on eating early but my husband prefers eating late. When we left the restaurant at about 12:30 the parking lot was completely full. read more

First time coming to this place and I must say I really like it! Met up with some friends here for lunch and the food was delicious! Everything was fresh and looked so colorful! We all enjoyed our food and loved the desserts! We tried the Banana cream pie, mango tart, chocolate cake and hummingbird cake!
