Chimichurri Steak, Beet Salad, Truffle Fries
    Mary N.

I am so glad I tried this place. I've heard friends say positive things before but it really surprised me how good the place was. You pick and main item and two side items. The had a good variety of selections for the side items. The Chimichurri Steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The beet salad was refreshing. And those Truffle fries were excellent! I was surprised about the generous portions given the price. It was very affordable for high quality food. Semi casual spot. You order at the counter, they give you a numbered placard and then they deliver the food to you. My only complaint is the parking. This is a very busy shopping center with a lot of stores and not enough parking.

Food: 5 Mics Service: 5 Mics Ambiance: 5 Mics Food: American Fare is served here with lots of choices to hit exactly what you are looking for. Entrees, salads, sandwiches, burgers. I was tempted to try the burger but went the healthy route of a salad with steak. Wife had the beef with mashed potatoes. Service: Awesome! Having hospitality experience, this is what you are looking for. Friendly, patient and can guide you through the menu options. Ambiance: Clean and modern and lots of seating. We went to the Davis location-come thru and eat! You won't regret it! We'll be back for the next few Sundays.

This review is based on a catered order. The steak sandwich looked pale and rare, but it was surprisingly tender and tasty. The house salad was ordinary, but the vinaigrette and pickled onions elevated the greens. I would try this place if I'm around.

I came here with some friends for brunch on a sunday, and we stayed for a while just talking, which made for a nice experience. We sat in the patio outside. it was nice and quiet considering that's its next to one of the main roads in davis. The service style is the one where you order at the front first, then they give you a table flag and bring the food out to you. You also handle things like water, condiments, and utensils yourself. The roast chicken was pretty decent. Nothing crazy, but good. The caesar salad was good too, and overall the food felt fresh and healthy. The fries were fine, felt like they were battered or at the least seasoned One interesting thing is that they rotate specials through the menu every week encouraging you to try something new Overall, it was a solid experience. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to complain about either. The food tasted healthy, and I felt pretty good afterward.

Food: great selection, healthy, portions are just right (the salmon I ordered was moist and not dry at all) Service: food is probably made to order so it takes a while. It's worth it though. Just don't come here in a rush. The servers were nice. Ambiance: there are shared tables and an outdoor patio. I came on a really cold night and didn't want to sit outside. There wasn't enough seating for my party of 4 inside. We had to sit separately during our meal. That's the only disappointing part. Otherwise, I will be back.

French Fries - not very seasoned at all

We saw this restaurant reviewed on Instagram and we finally made it to eat! It was nice and clean. We walked in and ended up ordering at the kiosk. We are kind of old school so it was nice to have the opportunity to talk to a human even though we know kiosks are the future. Prices are kind of steep, but that's the trend now. The menu is very extensive! I ended up ordering the steak salad and my friend ordered the siren turf plate. I looked at the fries avg they looked so yummy, so I ordered a side of fries. We grabbed our table sign (mine was my HS graduation year) and sat down at a bar-height table with comfy chairs. The restaurant was pretty busy while we were there, but it only took about 10 minutes for our food to arrive. His plate arrived first (Surf 'n Turf) and it looked yummy. We should have put our meals on the same number since my food came out about 5 minutes after his did. He started eating since his was hot and I didn't want it to get cold. My fries came out next and I was disappointed. The images on the kiosk made them look like they would be very well seasoned. It did not look seasoned at all when they arrived. They were nice and hot, but my friend said they tasted "like a potato". Nothing to write home about. I didn't even end up eating too many and I don't often leave food behind! My salad came out and it looked amazing! I ordered the steak well done since it was the only other option. Surprisingly the meat was still very tender and not dry at all. There was a hint of mint in the salad and that was a very refreshing addition. I liked the mango salsa and added crunch of nuts, but I got most of it at the end of the salad. We stayed until 9:30 and at one point the lights dimmed so we took that as our sign it was time to leave. Overall, our meals were good, but I probably won't put this restaurant on a regular rotation. I paid $30 for a salad and fries and I left some fries on the plate. It reminds me of a higher-end Panera. The vibe was nice and I did really like the layout and design, though.

First time coming to this place and I must say I really like it! Met up with some friends here for lunch and the food was delicious! Everything was fresh and looked so colorful! We all enjoyed our food and loved the desserts! We tried the Banana cream pie, mango tart, chocolate cake and hummingbird cake! Highly recommend coming here if you like fresh salads, and good quality food! Good service ! Alexa was helping us out and she was friendly and sweet. She even let us try a cookie and it was a huge cookie! Too bad there's not a location closer to me or I would come more often!

    Chicken Cobb Salad to go

Stopped by here on a whim during a road trip. Ordered online to go - the chicken Cobb salad fresh and filling - decent portion size. I would order it again. Some observations: for a chain restaurant, I like that they emphasize no additives or preservatives. There was a large water dispenser with cups available. Very busy, lots of people waiting to order and also seated. I noticed the all gender restroom was clean, spacious, and they even had this cool rubberized mat around the toilet bowl that catches any fluids, rather than it ending up on the floor. It was well stocked and I like that there was a Koala Kare changing station - very family friendly! There are about 3-4 solo restrooms, which is nice for a change (as opposed to multiple stalls). They partner with Plate Pass, a paid membership program which gives you discounts and and dining credit. Overall, happy with the food quality and ambiance. I would definitely return.

The food and drinks were yummy and didn't take long to arrive! We were helped by Gina who was very enthusiastic and helpful when we had any questions. The tables and seats are really cute, though it is a little cold if you sit where the AC vents face. :)

This is my new go to stop for low calorie healthy meals. You can easily get a plate that's only 600-1000 calories that still has big flavor. They know how to maximize flavor in their dishes without just adding excess amounts of fat/sugar. Surf and turf: A Shrimp has this delicious garlic butter. Grass fed beef steak is so tender that you eat it with a butter knife. And it's marinated quite nicely as the center of the meat is not bland at all. Sea bass: B This was a to go order and I will say the fish was good. Food definitely is better served hot dining in. For the sides I like the sesame broccoli, seafood chowder, and potatoes.

I originally was quite excited to try out Urban Plates when they opened in October but was a bit disappointed with my experience. Even though we ordered both our dishes at the same time, the steak had come out first and the bowl around 15-20 minutes later, after we had inquired about its progress with a staff member. By that time, we had already finished with the first dish as we didn't want it to get cold. Although we found the brussel sprouts to be quite yummy and the french fries well seasoned, the meat was a bit tough and the portion itself felt a bit small. When our second dish finally came, I felt that the bowl was missing something that would make the taste more well-rounded and cohesive. The miso dressing was a bit strong for me so I think I might have enjoyed another dish. Our second dish was missing the bread so we had asked one of staff if we could get it but after 10 minutes, they hadn't come back. So, we asked another staff if we could just have it to-go. We might have just had less than desirable service because they had just opened up which could be expected.

A friend and I had lunch at Urban Plates on a Thursday. I knew parking would be an issue so we arrived around 11:30 a.m. and took the first space we could find in front of PetSmart and walked to the restaurant. Looking over the main parking lot there were just a couple of regular spaces. The restaurant was uncrowded when we arrived. You are greeted with two big electronic kiosks at the entry to order without human intervention if you so wish. Utensils and order number signs are located there. We chose to interact with a human and Arlett was happy to take our order at the counter to the left of the entryway. Once my order was taken I was given a number sign to take to a table and directed to take utensils and napkins from the counter. The water dispenser is located against a window on the other side of the restaurant, where one can get more napkins and utensils. There is no shortage of opportunities to get a knife and fork and napkins. There are several tables for two and some for four. There is also a long table that people were sharing. Both of our Mediterranean Chicken Bowls were delivered to our table after a short wait. The food was delicious and the portion size was good. I was able to take home about half of my plate. My friend ate all of hers. There was a 3% surcharge on my bill. Looking at their menu online there was a footnote: "** to offset the cost of CA mandated benefits, a 3% surcharge is added." I do not know of any other local restaurants doing that, though I understand it is common in Los Angeles and San Francisco. They have an extensive menu and many other dishes sound very tempting. The parking issue concerns me. My friends agree on eating early but my husband prefers eating late. When we left the restaurant at about 12:30 the parking lot was completely full.

My potatoes tasted pretty bland and could have used more seasoning. I also ordered pancakes, and they just were not cooked to perfection. They felt slightly overcooked and not as soft or buttery as I was hoping for. I really think they could have added more butter or richness to bring the dish together. The wait was also pretty long, and for me, it did not feel worth it in the end. The overall style reminds me a bit of Crepeville, but with a more modern look. I have tried all the salads and they are delicious, high quality, and great value. I always add grilled chicken and it is hot, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. My fave salad is probably the Cactus. I recently tried the seasonal Greek salad with falafel and that was awesome too. Falafel was fresh! When I'm in a mood to indulge I get the bulgogi tacos. 10/10. And the chips and salsa. Seasoned meat, pickled veggies, combo of sweet and sour. So thankful for this dining option, how fresh the food is, the great service and speed, and the exceptional value. The general manager is there to greet you most of the time, too, and it's clear how much passion he has for the rotating menu and fresh options. Love how Gunrock lives Aggie values! Go Ags :)

The location is perfect right in the heart of downtown, surrounded by history and that small town charm Woodland is known for. You walk in and immediately feel the character of the place. It's not manufactured, it's real, and that matters. The atmosphere is on point. It balances upscale and relaxed in a way that works whether you're there for a date night, business dinner, or just grabbing a drink. The lounge has great energy and always feels alive without being too much. The food speaks for itself. Consistently high quality, fresh, and well executed. You can tell there's intention behind every dish, not just going through the motions. For the level of quality you're getting, the value is absolutely there. Service is a big reason this place stands out. Christy is amazing. She genuinely cares, remembers people, and makes sure you're taken care of the right way. It never feels forced, just natural hospitality. This is one of those spots that's become part of Woodland's identity. You see regulars, new faces, families, and business meetings all happening at once. That kind of mix only happens when a place is doing something right. If you're looking for great food, strong atmosphere, real service, and a place that actually represents the community, this is it.

This time, three of us ordered burgers, and they were some of the driest, most flavorless burgers I've ever had. Burger Saloon, I'll never betray you again. The experience itself felt unreal. We found out our waitress was on her 4th day working and she literally quit after taking our order. You truly can't make this stuff up. Another server had to come retake our order, and even then things still came out wrong. I asked for no cheese because I'm lactose intolerant, but my burger came with cheese anyway. Out of 7 drinks ordered, 3 were forgotten. One drink specifically requested no sugar on the rim and came out with sugar. I did feel bad for the replacement server. He looked incredibly nervous and was visibly shaking. Despite all the mishaps, we still left him a good tip because it honestly seemed like the whole place was struggling that night.

I recently enjoyed my first (and definitely not my last) dining experience at the HIVE tasting room and kitchen in Woodland, CA. I enjoyed it; the food was delicious and customer service on point. I went there with the intent of mead wine tasting but ended up not since I had driving duties. [Fun fact: mead wine has less alcohol content than grape wine.] Instead I ordered lunch and washed it down with their honey ice tea. The iced tea had a prominent honey taste. Hubs luved his, but my tastebuds were confused. Odd though because I luv honey and iced tea. We also ordered a Ruben sandwich $22 and an order of waffles. The sandwich was classic with the familiar flavors. Nice quality cut of meat, thinly shaved. The waffles $17 were topped with blueberries, slivered almonds, and orange blossom whipped ricotta cream which I asked for on the side. The ricotta cream was divine. The waffles tasted pretty darn good. However the pricing for both entrees seemed high for the serving size. But this is a type of place where folks can eat and linger to enjoy the grounds, atmosphere, and each other's company without anyone rushing you out. We enjoyed our meal out in the back outdoor patio. The landscaping is all organic with lots of pollinating and drought resistant plants and trees. The building is a zero energy building with an onsite brewing facility. The interior has a brand newish look and feel. There is a honey tasting and mead wine tasting counter, gift shop, and dining area. All of this is in an open floor plan. The indoor seating capacity is limited. The place can be rented out for events (such as a garden wedding), private facility tours. Plus they host community events. Take a peek at their website. Some events are free. Events range from tours, book readings, yoga classes, flower bouquet class, gardening... etc.

I started with their seasonal beet soup, and had the open faced lox and arugula toast. For dessert I had the dulce de leche mousse which was divine, and a bite of their cannollis too. We even squeezed in a honey tasting! My favorite was the clover, although there definitely some interesting ones like avocado, mango, coffee, Hawaiian, and other regional ones I'd never heard of before! Some gave cinnamony notes, some marshmallowy, malty/cola-esque, and more. The hot honey was also a nice kick. Did not try any of their meads yet. They also had a few events coming up, including the Science of Mead and a Valentine's Day thing. When the weather is warmer I'll come back to hang out on the patio!
