We had a great experience at Urban Plates! We came for a late dinner on Thursday and were really surprised by the ambiance of the restaurant. Though the ordering process is a 'pay at the counter' style, the restaurant feels more like a proper dine-in experience. The decor and furniture was very nice and had a classy feel to it. It was seriously like eating a nice hotel restaurant. The food was definitely a standout. The portions weren't huge, but they were appropriately sized and cooked nicely. I had the steak and the cook on it was perfection. The sauce on the top really set off the flavor and I was in heaven eating it! I also had a coconut line refresher that was excellent. There are many choices and options on the menu, so if you have dietary restrictions it's pretty easy to customize your meal so that it works for you. Now this is a proper restaurant that is perfect for Davis! read more

SO delicious and I wish I knew about Urban Plates sooner! Healthy, delicious, good portions + nice dining area. A group of us stopped by with kids in tow and were able to get a table, I ordered the steak with Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. One of my kids got the kid meal with mac and cheese and Brussel sprouts, and the other got the salmon with beets. The food arrived fairly quickly and it was all delicious! Each plate came with garlic bread which my kids gobbled up. Food can be a little pricey but is very reasonable for what you get. Parking can get busy on weekends, but we were able to find a spot by Trader Joe's and just walked over. read more

Ordering is quick and easy with the devices by the entrance. They had a note explaining there would be a 30min wait due to the restaurant being short-staffed for the day when I went in. Went back after Christmas and it's still as good as I remember! The food is served promptly after ordering. Would really like our local urban plates in Dublin, California, but we had a meet up with some friends in Davis and we were truly impressed by this new restaurant! It's got a cool layout with outdoor seating, but it was too cold to be outside so he died inside and the staff was so accommodating. We had a group of seven and they put tables together and waited patiently for his Alzheimer's to figure out how to order on the touchscreen! Everything was delicious. I would not recommend to anyone. The food was awful, we received it cold asked for it to be warmed and they brought it back lukewarm. Service was bad as our waitress was literally spending most her time talking to her friends rather than assisting us (not once did she ask how our food was). I would recommend management perchance offering a complimentary drink or dessert when messing up peoples food, wasting our time, and money. $22 for a steak to be stone cold is ludicrous, never again people never again. Now my stomach hurts, honestly shame on them; had me feeling like I was begging for service and my food, as if I didn't already pay good money. Shame. read more

Great place if you want a wholesome meal! My boyfriend and I picked a blackened salmon plate and a grilled sustainable salmon plate and loved it! I chose to pair my grilled salmon with ponzu sauce which was delicious. My boyfriend paired his blackened salmon with hollandaise which he thought was great. We ordered through a kiosk at the front of the store and our food followed after 15 minutes. The person that served us our food apologized for the wait and explained that salmon takes the longest to cook (we didn't mind the wait). The restaurant itself was spacious with outside seating. Service was great on grand opening. There was a guy out in front, Cyrus, who talked to my parents a lot lol and made their experience feel welcoming and he was very knowledgeable about ordering on the kiosk and told us about plate pass which I signed up for. Mild inconveniences: The app is not the best - it's kind of slow and I would rather order in person. Parking is a bit atrocious here too at the Davis collective lol. I wish they considered that when developing... tbh I think the ratio of available parking to stores/restaurants is a bit... well we will see. The food was delicious and fresh! I also like the restaurant layout - not too crowded and you can see the food being made. My favorite is the sea bass. Although I don't have it pictured lol. The steak is also really nice. Very tender. They had this coconut lime refresher that was also really good. Shoutout to Abreena(?) for helping us get water and clearing our plates, Nikki for going around and checking in on us (the cookie was really yummy), and Luis ‍ A lot of servers also checked in on us. 10 months later and we are absolutely convinced that this is our go to place. Because of the healthy ingredients we are assured to our health is not being compromised by non organic ingredients and seed type oils. I'm glad I did because everything was delicious. I ordered the pork belly banh mi and a cup of the Greek lemon chicken and farro soup. The banh mi was definitely the highlight. The pork belly was moist, tender, chewy, and really flavorful, and the crunchy vegetables added a great contrast. The ciabatta was perfectly soft with just a little bit of grilling and worked really well with everything in the sandwich. It was also a pretty substantial portion. I could only finish half and took the other half home for my son to try. The Greek lemon chicken and farro soup was also really good. I would have loved a little more lemon zing to it, but that's really my only critique of the food. Tenisha helped me during my visit and was super friendly and welcoming, which made a great first impression for a new location. My lunch came in just under $30, so it's definitely on the pricier side for a sandwich-and-soup lunch. That said, everything tasted fresh and high quality, with plenty of protein and vegetables, and the pricing seems pretty comparable to the other options in this newly updated shopping area. Overall, this was a great first visit. The food was fresh, delicious, and felt like a healthier lunch option without sacrificing flavor. I've been waiting for Mendocino Farms to open and went a little out of my way to finally try it, and it was absolutely worth the trip. I'll definitely be back.

It was okay, a little on the burnt side, and the burnt parts had a charred taste that some people may like, but I wasn't a fan, especially since it didn't look that burnt in the menu photo. i an a huge meat critic, i lovee having meat in my mouth. to be honest it is rare to see a place at this price serve steak that is cooked that well. The first bite had juices exploding in my mouth and it made every bite taste so great i was screaming FAHHHHH!!! also to mention the customer service was as good as the food, chenel was great and she was actually the one who told me about how good the steaks are. the whole atmosphere was great and very well organized. read more

Me and my family went to Urban Plates in Davis for the charity event days and to the Grand Opening! Wow!! Everyone was GREAT, professional, and efficient! The Owners, the General Manager, and everyone working there was AMAZING! Shout out to excellent service from Nikki (we love her hair color!), Areeba, Alize, Francesca, David, Manuel, Aqeel, and Sophia! Woohoo....New favorite place! I went to the pre opening event with my friends and everything was so wonderful!! Jade took our order and Chenel checked on us while we ate. Both were so friendly and enthusiastic and welcoming. The food was absolutely delish and good sized portions. I got the half club sandwich with tomato basil soup and truffle fries. All were amazing but the thing that stands out to me is the hefty amount of avocado. I love avocado. Very neat, very pretty, very yummy. 10/10 read more

10/10 experience super easy to order and they bring the food right to your table. I got the surf and turf and it was amazing 100% would recommend. The steak was cooked to perfection and the shrimp was full of flavor. I also got the pineapple coconut drink and it was very refreshing. Chenel provided amazing costumer service and was very helpful answering any of our questions and making sure we had everything we needed. Will be coming back very soon. read more

I came here since it had some healthy lunch options. When you walk in you can immediately order at a kiosk, which there are 2 of. Also a counter if you want but I did the kiosk. Was a little confusing as far as the number system but since it wasn't too busy it was okay. Staff helped clear my table and it is a nice study spot. You get a big cookie for writing an honest review! The sea bass was good with the broccoli and beet+goat cheese sides. read more

My chicken and waffle was exactly what I was craving. Light and malty taste. Comes with cute bottles of maple syrup. Chicken tenders are delicious and perfectly fried. Also had the strawberry milkshake. So good that there was none left. A staff member came out to check on how we enjoyed the food and I was happy to report that it was delicious. Enjoyed the food and sat outside on a beautiful evening. We will be back with our family to share this gem.

Instead, our experience was ruined by the owner, Gordon Langstaff, and his completely inappropriate behavior around a small child. My son, who is three and on the autism spectrum, briefly picked up a loose electrical cord that was lying on the ground under the patio stairs (I have a photo of how exposed it was). Instead of calmly addressing the situation, Gordon walked over in a rude, irritated tone and said, "Can you do something?" I told him I was already handling it and redirecting my son, but as he walked away he started cursing under his breath, using foul language that was clearly audible right next to my child. There is no excuse for swearing like that in front of a three‑year‑old, especially when the unsafe cord was left out in the open by the restaurant in the first place. Whether or not my son is autistic, families should never be subjected to hostility and foul language from the owner of a restaurant. If you offer outdoor seating and leave cords and other hazards accessible, you should expect children to be curious and respond with basic courtesy, not anger. The food itself was mediocre, and after that interaction it honestly didn't matter. This was supposed to be a special birthday outing, and his attitude and language completely ruined it.
