All of these things sound funny out of context, but when you're a patient about to undergo a surgical procedure, you need to know you can trust the person and that what comes out of their mouth is going to be serious. None of this would have been such a big issue if he had presented them as jokes, but his voice remained a constant, monotone deadpan, that made it impossible to determine when the real medical advice ended and the jokes began. He doesn't even crack a smile. Just a stone faced expression the entire time. And to top it off, the whole time I had to listen to some Christian radio station, which made me very uncomfortable. I also had to pay a $500 copay upfront with zero options for a payment plan.

The emergency care, medical staff and doctors are OUTSTANDING!!! Which is what makes this review so difficult to write. However, since they were taken over by Methodist Health their billing practices are deceitful and outrageous. I confirmed before seeing a nurse for a sinus infection that it would be treated as an "Urgent Care" visit since it was 4pm on a weekday, but I believe they billed my insurance as an "Emergency Visit", which is now going towards my deductible and they want me to pay $303 in addition to the $25 co-pay I paid at the time of my visit. I called Methodist's billing dept (3 times) and they told me to "not pay the bill" and they would re-bill it and blamed my insurance provider for not understanding their billing codes, but they keep sending me bills. After contacting my insurance provider they said I was being billed for 3 injections (I only received 1 - a steroid shot for $700!!!, so don't do that if given a option) and it is completely unclear if this was submitted as an urgent care visit or an emergency visit or exactly what the clinic claims my treatment was other than a series of injection billing codes.

I arrived with life threatening conditions(after being turned away because i couldnt afford it, i went to BS&W to find i was in respiratory failure, metabolic acidosis, lactic acidosis, and severe bronchospasms) I arrived, was told to sat in the front office and fill out paperwork whole not being able to breathe, then was taken to the room with the nurse and she triaged me while i was in respiratory distress, without treatment. As a nurse you do have ability to start minor treatment for patients before seeing the physician if they are in extreme duress. Ex: Oxygen. However she didnt, then shut the curtain and door and left me gasping for air and wheezing. Woman physician came in (i wish i could remember her name) assessed me and told me I would be treated and left the room. I heard her argument with the nursing staff that I was not to be treated until i paid $600 upfront because they didnt take my insurance. The front desk staff came in and said the doctor determined i was not having ANY threatening issues and was allowed to deny treatment if i am unable to pay first. I explained EMTALA to the staff, which they profusely apologized and stated without the physicians approval they could not help me. The nurse came to the parking lot when i left due to me being unable to breathe or stand and profusely apologized and told me where to go. If you are near this ED, DO NOT GO. GO TO BS&W because the incompetence of the physician and money hungry ED will kill you. I am an RN myself and unfortunately healthcare is about money, and over confident physicians who are not put in their places end up killing others. I wish so badly they would close down. I am disgusted.
