slow service and not nearly as good as jesses in hburg improvement...suggestion... the diced onions at jesses were way finer thats one thing you need to do

Very kind workers. Burger was good and fries were great. Chill atmosphere and would go again

    Bacon Cheeseburger & fries

Their big selling point is that they are the 3rd generation of Jess' Downtown in Harrisonburg. That may be, but they will need to improve drastically before they can be compared to that tradition. On my first visit, I had to endure the owner, Angeliki, berating an employee in the dining room. A patron had specifically asked to speak with this employee to thank her for her customer service. When Angeliki saw her in the dining area, she came to the customer's table to loudly admonish the employee for not remaining in the kitchen. That alone was enough to lose my business. I ordered chili dogs; they had the toughest skins imaginable and were dried out. They had giant chunks of onions on them, not the finely diced onions like you would find at Jess'. Okay, so they are new & I thought I would give them one more chance the next day, ordering bacon cheeseburgers & French fries. I wish I had used better judgement & quit while I was sorta ahead. I received a very small portion of soggy, super greasy fries. My cheeseburger had virtually raw bacon on it. Honestly, I couldn't get past the rancid aroma of the fries, which I did taste...yucky, and the raw bacon to even taste my burger. So, $50 wasted in two days. I'm not sure I'll be gullible enough to try them a third time.

This place started around 1952. The order was given from a touch tone phone at the table to the front counter. We thought tnat some of the younger customers would not know how to use a dial telephone. Drive through service is also available, as it has been since the 1950's. Ordered a burger basket (burger and fries) $8., a chicken tender basket (five chicken tenders with fries) $11.50, onion rings, chocolate malted milkshake, chocolate ice cream dish, We got the food in about fifteen minutes brought to our table. Very reasonable. The 2 oz burger that I received was worst of all the items that I had. It was tasteless and reminded me of a smalll burger at Burger King. 1.5 stars. do not recommend it. We hope that the recipe for the burger would be improved. The crinkle cut French fries were average 3 to 3.5 stars and not plentiful. Could have used more. The onion rings were one of the two great items that we had. They were very good in every way. 4 plus stars. My mallted milk shake was good and the price was reasonable. It was appropriate for a 1950's restaurant. 4 stars. The chicken tenders were large had good taste. 4 stars. Rolls came with the chicken tenders. They were soft and had good taste. 4 stars. The chocolate ice cream, along with the onion rings was the standout best item that we had. 5 stars for the chocolate ice cream. It was creamy with a deep chocolate flavor and the ingredients in it were quality ingredients. Loved it. We enjoyed the good music with the meal. Everyone who worked there was very nice to us, including the manager. We will love to dine there again and hope that it can be soon. Thank you for the nice 1950's style food.

The people working there look as if they'd rather be anywhere else. I also watched as the employee was putting together my order, and the board that they lay the buns on was very dirty. It still had old chili and other condiments from previous orders all over it. Also, when they pulled the cole slaw out to use on my order, the container was pretty much empty. Instead of just getting a new container, they scraped whatever was left on the sides and barely put anything on my hotdogs. The taste was definitely not worth the price This was at lunch, and there was no one else in there as a customer. Just me. When I walked in, the employee had his hand on his head and was looking at his phone. I feel like that time could've been used to clean up and restock the condiments, but I'm not his employer, so I don't really have a say in that. It had been a while since I had come to Sam's Hotdogs. Ever since the owners that I grew up with sold it, I haven't really frequent this place much. Maybe once in the last 3-4 years. After giving it another try, I can see why I hadn't been here very much. It's unfortunate because the taste of the hotdogs is still there, but it's everything around the hotdogs that bring the joy down. This was once a staple in this city. Getting in for lunch was tough. For me, it'll just remain a great memory place.
