I work nearby and have had my eye on Urli Bird. Walking inside, I was a little surprised to see that this is within the same space as the Hill St Bar/Grill. However, it's a really nice restaurant to look at. I thought seating was a little limited, but for my brief visit, it worked just fine for me. I ordered a Spanish latte with almond milk and thought it was great. To me, it was well balanced and also a sizeable drink for the price. The barista was friendly. All you have to do is walk down second street and you'll find it. It's a small place, so don't expect to linger. But if you're a person who works in the area of grand park or live in the area, you have to pick up a cup of coffee here. The first time, I had a vanilla latte and it was also amazing, but don't sleep on the Spanish latte. The next time I go, I'm getting a hot one. Oh, I also bought two bags of coffee as a gift and received a free coffee. If you buy their coffee mug, you get 10 percent off your regular coffee order or maybe any coffee order, ask Chris about it when you go. After I was excused from my jury duty, I was in a good spirit and looked up nearest coffee shops within few blocks from Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center and I discovered this newly opened coffee shop. The coffee shop shares space with Hill Street Bar & Restaurant and you'll only find a comfortable indoor sofa plus few outdoor makeshift tables on the street here. Since it was virtually impossible to find a parking spot within a block or two, I just parked in Little Tokyo (Aiso Parking Lot) and walked to this shop. I asked barista and he said brown sugar latte and Spanish latte are the most popular drinks. For food, they have croissants, chocolate muffin, cinnamon roll, and other breakfast items (e.g. Belgian waffles, quiche, and granola bowl). *** Spanish Latte ($5.50): Just slightly sweeter than I would like, but it was one of better Spanish lattes I have had. I could taste the creaminess from condensed milk & was able to finish the drink fairly quickly. *** It is one of those places I would come back more often if I actually live or work in this part of Downtown LA. I keep coming back to Urli Bird for their lattes. They're located inside "Hill Street Bar and Restaurant," and only open on weekdays (the biggest flaw I can come up with). Urli Bird's portion of the building is small, but feels cozy with plenty of space to order and wait for your next cup. The barista said they make their syrups in house and they change their menu monthly so there's new items popping up frequently. I loved their red velvet latte, sadly it was just a February affair! It was well crafted and the perfect afternoon pick me up (even with decaf espresso!). I could taste the cinnamon and condensed milk in every sip, so it's no one the Spanish latte is one of their most popular drinks.
