I have tried so many times to appreciate this place but today will be my last visit. The wait times alone are enough to keep me away. Today I came in at 11 am, no one was in front of me in line. The dining room and outdoor area was about 80% full so there were customers, but it took 30 minutes to get two egg dishes and one hot tea pot. The hot tea pot was within eyeshot and ready for over 10 minutes sitting at the barista counter without anyone bringing it to me. This was after 20 minutes of ordering too. I even went up to the counter to ask if I could grab my tea and they said no, someone had to bring it to me. Another 5 minutes. By the time the tea and food got to our take the food was room temperature and the tea was not hot and had tea leaves all in my cup as I poured my cup. I did as for a manager and he came out promptly but basically said sorry we're backed up and I'll talk to my workers. I would not go there if you want good service or warm food and a good cup of tea. $50 for mediocre service. The only good thing about the place is the ambiance of the location. That is why I give it two stars. Otherwise I'd give it one! The restrooms were gross and had no toilet tissue in the holders. read more

A good alternative to Starbucks. In fact Urth Caffe's has more then just drinks, it offers farm to table foods with healthy sustainable organic ingredients. Many people come here for the food only. But it started in 1989 with coffees from Peru. The cafe claimed that their coffees are unique and had not been genetically modified. I had their espresso and it was indeed very tasty. The aroma is quite different from the coffees I had at Starbucks. Besides coffees, Urth Caffe is also famous for its varieties of latte green tea drinks. They are so many choice that I don't remember them all. I had matcha one time and they were so delicious. It's also a great place to meet up with people to have a drink or a meal. I had a meeting with a long time friend for breakfast. Since the cafe opens at 7:30 am, it's perfect for us to meet up to have breakfast before going to work. The food and drinks prices are not cheap but reasonable. For my breakfast of a almond croissant and a regular coffee, I paid $11. The staffs were so friendly. Overpriced mediocre hyped food. But I like their monkey granita so I order it from time to time. I needed a pick-me-up today because I drove to LAX round trip & then took my dog to the vet next door. I ordered it online. $10.64 including tax and tip for one drink. Okay. I walk over to their pick up area where the sign was pointing at, but the girl told me I should go to the bar area. She was very nice. She walked me over. The problem was the older busboy (?) guy wearing an apron & holding a rag, possibly in his 50s-60s, who doesn't make drinks. He was calling out my name so I told him it is mine. He didn't believe me!!! He would not hand me my drink unless I showed proof that it was mine. He never once asked other people for evidence. I had to show him my email receipt on my phone (which has my name, phone number, email address. Thank goodness it does not list my home address on the receipt) while holding a bag in one hand and holding a dog leash in another. Maybe because I am an Asian woman. Not sure why he told ONLY ME to show receipt when no one else was asked to show. You either ask EVERYONE for their receipts OR ask NO ONE for their receipts. That is fair & non-discriminatory. Everyone should look up what happened in Laguna Beach urth caffe when they kicked muslim women out of the restaurant. If you guys search for the term "discriminate" in this location's yelp reviews, there is a review from an year ago that talks about being discriminatory against Asians. Which is ridiculous because my people (Koreans) who are tourists frequent Urth Caffe at various locations & bring profits to Urth Caffe. Maybe it is time for their diversity training again!!! It was a little hard to find a table though. The food came out quickly. Overall, the meal itself was okay. I do love their pastries, cheesecakes, and cakes section. I have a sweet tooth, so I felt like I was a kid at the candy store. Parking can get rough but that's not surprising since it's Pasadena. The service was wonderful, the food was great, we got a Belgian waffle, a banana-walnut waffle, a carrot cake, and a regular latte. Honestly, the food is WAY too filling for its price, which is good. While the building is cozy, it does get a bit cramped. I found out that you can help yourself with water and boxes, so no awkward moments with the staff. Overall, I would say that any breakfast and brunch fan would love to come here. For you coffee people, it had delicate notes, went easy on the stomach, and the presentation was amazing. A one stop shop for a grab and go coffee, if you have 20 minutes, 5 minutes for the line, and the rest for them making what you want. Avocado toast is good...but if you're hungry make sure you add the bacon, egg, and tomato. I probably wouldn't order the avocado toast again as it was pretty basic. They do offer gluten free toast! I used to come here a lot over the years and have always find it quaint and pretty. Sometimes I would come with family for birthdays and I love the fact that they offer organic foods and drinks. I like the ambience, especially at the Pasadena location and I think it's good for coffee dates and tea evenings. Sometimes the line is long and it can be hard to order quickly but it's worth the wait and depends what time you get here. I think it's less crowded on a weekday. I wish they wouldn't keep raising prices though. I like the English breakfast latte, and the Spanish latte inspired me to learn how to make it- it's the only coffee I drank that doesn't make me feel jittery from too much caffeine. It tastes just right and doesn't give me side effects. I also like their divine spice latte and green tea one. I wouldn't recommend this place for food as the bean soup I once got had no soup at all and looked like a lump of dried beans but their salad and burrito options are better. The cheesecakes are delicious as are the other baked good and I really enjoy the pistachio croissant. I think the Pasadena location is less busy and prettier than both Beverly hills locations and the west Hollywood one from what I've seen. Some of my friends don't like this place as much but you really have to be a fan of tea to go here. read more

This place is amazing. They had a line out the door but an even bigger menu with so many options. The food was delicious!! My pizza cantona was delicious with the chili oil that came on the side. The green tea boba and the pistachio waffle was the perfect sweet treat to end the meal that had me rolling on my way out from how full i was. There was so much seating and it was a little chilly out but fortunately they had heaters to keep us warm. Lastly the service was amazing we needed a table to be cleaned and they came right over and cleaned it for us and shortly after the food arrived in no time. I didn't even know this place existed until about a week ago, which is apparently because Urth is only located near/around LA! This is super disappointing because I wish that I had one closer to San Diego! I will admit, the setup for the restaurant was slightly chaotic. It was pretty busy/fast-paced and the menu was pretty overwhelming....but even with this being said, I wasn't too bothered by it. I do love their variety of dishes and ended up choosing a breakfast burrito and the rose matcha latte. Shockingly, the prices weren't too steep, and the quality was incredible. While it's not a local/quaint café, it really is charming in a way. I loved the food so much and basically inhaled the burrito haha Their display case of pastries was also pretty enticing and just gorgeous to look at. I am pretty surprised to see this place doesn't have the best reviews, but I will mention that they must be doing something right because they were PACKED!! I do for sure believe some areas could use improvement. For example, service was pretty subpar and the lady at the register was arguably a bit rude. A wonderful cafe and bakery in Pasadena. I enjoy coming here for brunch, and I make sure to arrive before the long lunch lines begin to form around 11am. It opens super early at 6am everyday. How the place works is: you grab a menu, get in line, order at the register; they give you a number and then you can sit anywhere you like; when your drinks or food are ready, then will find you and serve you. They also bring you a set of utensils. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. During my recent visit, we had the egg white & spinach breakfast panini and the salmon scramble, along with a honey vanilla latte and mango smoothie. Egg White & Spinach Panini: The egg white and spinach did not have much flavor, so that's why it comes with a yummy tomato dipping sauce. I chose to have gluten free bread (no extra charge) and the bread was toasted to the perfect crisp. This was a simple and light dish that I enjoyed. Salmon Scramble: Generous proportion of salmon to egg. Both the salmon and egg were soft. Yummy flavors. Perfect amount of salt. Comes with a small salad, and bread and butter. All of these went together very well. There is also the gluten free bread option, but we chose regular white bread. As for the beverages, the hot honey vanilla latte was nothing special. I really couldn't even taste any honey in it. The mango smoothie was really big and refreshing. It was not overly sweet. It just tasted like fresh mangos, blended into a thick and creamy drink (exactly what a smoothie should be)! We came on a Saturday, yet the food and drinks did not take long to come out at all. We got the drinks within 10 minutes of sitting down at the patio, and we got the food about 5 minutes after the drinks. The service was friendly to us. There is a lot of street parking. read more

Vegetarian Lasagna - Zucchini, layers, and sauce were delicious, soft, and even throughout. Salad was just a mixed spring salad w/ a side of balsamic dressing and cake with bread. Where was the butter? 2. Poach Di Parma - Super delicious! Definitely a must get! I was able to get my poached eggs medium (or soft), but I'm not a fan of the yolk texture. Bread was soft inside and nicely toasted, the mushrooms were glazed, and the prosciutto wasn't super salty. Great mix! However, I didn't get seasonal melon. 3. Spanish Latte - cold w/ almond milk is super creamy & not super sweet, which is perfect for a hot day! I normally get this item hot, in which has a cute design & more flavor. 4. Spanish Granita - basically the Spanish latte, but blended. You have the option of mild, medium, or strong & almond milk options as well. Blend was nice & had different textures. The desserts were a bit of a disappointment: ** They discontinued the Earl Grey Tiramisu! So depressing! I only used to eat here for that item & coffee. Please bring it back!** 1. Pistachio Jasmine - was light and refreshing; however, I didn't taste any Jasmine flavor & the pistachio overpowered the dessert. The tiramisu was light, fluffy, and creamy. 2. Chocolate Hazelnut - was just okay. The outer part was better than the inside. Overcooked & not very flavorful inside. Parking sucks, I had to park two blocks away on the street. But at least I didn't have to pay for it. Check the parking signs, because my friend got towed before! I got their new blended, chocolate, gigantic coffee and I'm sad to say, it was worth the $7! I'm kinda embarrassed. It gets crowded, I went at lunch time with some gfs.
