Wake and Late has become my new go-to breakfast/lunch spot in Pasadena! I discovered Wake and Late about three weeks ago, and I've already been here about 6 or 7 times! I can honestly say I'm hooked. Their burritos have become a staple for me, especially because they're not overly filling and, unlike a lot of breakfast burritos I've had, they don't leave me feeling super bloated afterward. I keep my burrito pretty basic since I don't like meat in my burrito. I usually get egg, cheese, avocado, and tater tots, and it's SO good. I did try adding the refried beans once, and the first time they were delicious. Unfortunately, the second time they tasted a little off, so now I just stick with my usual order without the beans. And let's talk about the iced coffee! This is probably one of my favorite things here. I work in the area and parking in Pasadena can be a nightmare, so I usually walk about 15 minutes from work. By the time I get here, especially on a hot day, I'm completely overheated and that iced coffee hits the spot every single time. Definitely recommend getting one! The service has also been consistently great. Everyone I've interacted with has been kind and friendly, and the whole operation is really efficient. I also love their app. If it's your first time and you download the app, you get $10 off, which I thought was a great incentive. You also earn rewards with your purchases that you can use toward future orders, and I really appreciate that. Those little perks go a long way! My only complaints are the prices for add-ons. I think $2.50 just to add refried beans is a little steep, especially when you're already purchasing a burrito. Bacon being $4 is also on the pricey side. I don't mind paying typical Pasadena prices, but I do think some of the add-on costs could be more reasonable. Overall, though, I really enjoy Wake and Late and it has quickly become my go-to breakfast/lunch spot when I'm working in the area. Cute little place right next to 24 hour fitness. It was like 1 min walk so if you're starving after a workout, this is the place. The food: Very limited option, it's for burrito only. However the burrito has everything I needed: eggs, potato totes, avocado, cheese and bacon. They also have 2 creamy sauces that I like: cilantro and chipotle. I had the Ice Caffe served frozen. It was quite small but strong and enough after the workout. It was delicious too! The vibe: It seems chill but not too much decor. They blocked out a lot of spaces behind the counter and there were limited seating spaces. It was also hard to hear when they call your name for the order. I also love how compact the burrito is. A lot of people say the size is too small for the price, but personally I think it's the perfect size and fills me up so I'm not too full or still hungry. Went during lunch on Saturday. There was. Lot of people. The line was not obvious. There isn't a counter with a cash register. So I'm guessing no one pays cash?? The menu is at the register table so there isn't a place where people can see the menu. While they took our order, we prob waited 20 min for our food. The burrito is small for the price. For ~$15, I got the Burrito with Pickled jalapeño and chipotle aioli. I ate the whole burrito and was still hungry. I feel like it was an appetizer size. It is a really good burrito. The café is surprisingly spacious with plenty of tables for dining, hanging out, or even studying. The steak burrito with the cilantro sauce was the perfect combo. My wife brought me here knowing how much I love breakfast burritos. I love the location of this spot. Great part of Pasadena. The inside does remind me of a "pop up" location. The customer service was pretty good. The food and coffee were made pretty fast. The quality and food and drinks were excellent! Packed with flavor. They are about the same size as those frozen bean and cheese burritos you get from the market. The steak burrito had about 2oz of beef in it. The worst part is the steak burrito came with rotten avocado in it. We ordered and ate at the restaurant so there was no time for something fresh to turn rotten. We lost our appetites after biting into this burrito. I showed the woman at the register and she offered to make us a new one, but I opted for a refund, which she gave for the bad burrito. Ok i finally wanted to try so hopped on the metro to come out to pasadena. You can take the metro A line to memorial station and walk about 3-4 blocks here. I knew what i wanted so i jumped on the breakfast burrito $12 bucks with added steak $5 and bacon $4 bucks. Expensive yes, cost me $24 dollars for this which is way over priced. The burrito was very good though. It had a nice crunch with the tater tots with every bite but with little steak and bacon to justify the $9 add ons. Get the cilantro crema (best sauce) and the chipotle aioli to go with it. It's a huge place and i picked this over the LA location one because you can actually sit down and enjoy it here. The LA one i passed by has no real seating, only to go orders. They have free self serve water station which is a bonus at pasadena location because i wasn't trying to pay $7-$9 bucks for a small cup of orange juice to push the price over $30 bucks for it. A dystopian vision of food, that feels like it's created by a combination of an MBA class, an algorithm and a private equity house. The food: The burrito is basically fine. But the menu feels like it's entirely built around upselling pricing strategy. The breakfast burrito starts at $12 but you want beans, that's extra. You want bacon, that's a 40% premium at an extra $5. So for what most people would think of as the basic building blocks of a breakfast burrito (eggs, beans, potato and a breakfast meat) isn't actually $12, instead its $20 which I think is why so many people complain about it being expensive. And given the fixed size of the tortilla, adding beans and bacon probably means putting in less of everything else anyway. And the avocado in my burrito was seriously over-ripe and should not have been used. I've seen other reviews saying that people have been served rock hard avocados so clearly there's poor quality control and produce management. Also, the crema is disgusting. All powdered garlic and indigestion. The location: This is probably the worst part. It feels like stepping into a ghost kitchen with a temporary space to sit in. The music is unpleasantly loud, the windows are covered, the seating area is blocked off from the kitchen by some temporary barriers, and it's a thoroughly inhospitable space. 80% of the orders seem to be made online and through delivery apps and every attempt has been made to take the human out of the experience even down to the collection lockers that people open by checking in at an iPad. That could have been a job for a human, instead it's a larger profit margin for the company, because it isn't showing up in a lower cost of product. I fear this is what restaurants will all start to look like in the era of AI and post-Covid food delivery, and I'm not here for it. Even if the burrito was excellent I'd avoid going back, but it was mid and the avocado was rancid, so that seals the deal. read more

I went to Wake & Late only once for the food but twice for drinks cause I was thirsty from standing in the sun waiting for Matu's cheesesteak and W&L was on the way back to my car. The space is really interesting, it's huge and industrial with two big counters at the front, one for ordering and one for pickup. Even with my second visit I wasn't positive where to order because they don't have countertop POS machines. Their burritos taste good and I enjoyed both the bacon and the steak, especially with the hot sauce and cilantro crema but WOW. All the reviews warned they were small for $18/$19 and I was still wholly surprised by HOW small the burritos are. They're actually ~6 inches. I liked the bagels but definitely wouldn't come here for a bagel fix--they're different than traditional bagels, more like homemade or Pop Up Bagels in NY if that makes sense. Lastly, their drinks taste pretty good but the price is insane. $10 for a 10/12oz dirty matcha. $7.50 for the matcha alone. There's free (for now) 1-2 hour parking on Colorado and the side streets, but the city installed parking machines and most street parking will become paid soon. read more

Amazing ambience in this café. The building was formerly some sort of bank, so there are very high ceilings, lots of indoor seating and an overall beautiful atmosphere. We got there when they just opened to order some breakfast burritos. We got two vegetarian burritos and one with bacon. They were definitely pricey but even though they look small, they are filling. There was no wait because they had just opened and we were literally the first 3 orders placed. It did take a little bit to get our food though. The burritos themselves were DELICIOUS, very well balanced with amazing sauce. Highly recommend the cilantro crema, we got the chipotle aioli as well but liked the crema better. Nothing was too overpowering or stuffed in this burrito, where sometimes there's too much egg or potato or tortilla. The decor was very cute and the service was great.
