Oh my gosh, Ruben is amazing. I bought this beautiful Typewriter in auction, used personally by one of the original animation people at Disney. While not used for his work, it still has nostalgic value. It was in very nice condition, having been manufactured in the late 50's, but needed a good sprucing up, oiling, complete dismantle, to make it work like new. I first purchased an Epson Photo Black Ink cartridge 157 on April 28th, 2025. After tracking the package for some time I contacted USA Office Machines on May 13th, 2025 and was told the package shipped. That was all the text said. "Shipped". I sent back a screen shot of the tracking number to show that it hadn't shipped yet. That it was "awaiting item". After no response I sent, "Will I receive confirmation of USA sending another cartridge as I was told today via telephone? Order USA-24223" The response was "It will show movement within 24hrs" On May 15th, 2025 I texted back, "I don't see any movement for tracking number". Response was, "it has left us I can assure you --we have to wait for the USPS to update". Finally after playing these games for a few weeks I decided to dispute the credit card charge with the credit card company. I filed a claim on May 16th, 2025. On June 2nd, 2025, I received a package in my mailbox over one month after making the purchase. But it wasn't an Epson Photo Black Ink cartridge that was clearly shown on the USA Office Machine web site. It was an after market black ink cartridge that I could have bought on Amazon for $37 and had it in a few days. One which I did not want. I shopped around looking for an original Epson cartridge and that's why I was willing to pay $56.39 for it. So I contacted USA Office and after telling them I didn't want the ink cartridge they sent I was told they would email me a shipping label. Instead I received the following email. "Hello , Below you will see your return authorization #. Please be sure to enclose this email in the box with your return. Please reply via email with return tracking information to inform us of the tracking #. Returns will only be accepted with a valid RMA. I'm forced to give 1 star because a star is required to submit a review. I purchased a HP LaserJet printer from USA Office Machines. Their website showed a photo of a new printer, however when I spoke to a representative I was told the printer was fully refurbished and came with a one-year warranty. I received the printer in a make-shift box, it was filthy, did not function properly, and had missing parts. The printer was misrepresented both on their website and by the representative. The printer was filthy with food crumbs, coffee stains, dirt, grim, toner smudges and toner dust. The right side panel was ajar because it was not reassembled properly. There were missing parts, no paper tray, no catch paper flap, no USB cable, no software & documentation, which was said to be included. After having to clean the printer, I ran a test page only to find it did not print properly. The prints were faint with ghosted type and images. I contacted USA Office Machines and told them I was displeased with printer and that I should not have to pay a 20% restocking fee since the printer was not as described. I received an email saying they would give me an exchange, but I would first have to send them photos. I did not want an exchange, I had lost all faith in USA Office Machines and I should not have to accept an exchange when they should have delivered fully refurbished printer. I requested they pick up their printer and issue a refund. They refused and I am now having to depute the purchase with my credit card company. I emailed them saying I would be disputing the charge. I received a scare tactic email stating that they win 98% of all disputes. This behavior makes me think they have had lots of disputes from dissatisfied customers, and ripping people off is how they conduct business. Buyer beware! He returned the machine to me in perfect working condition, having disassembled the whole machine, cleaned all the parts in solvent, replaced the disintegrated foam with felt. Here's the short : A week ago I bought my first typewriter (Hermes 3000) and have been writing everyday since. It works beautifully. It's a kind of high, a satisfying experience, that I get at moments when the click clack synchronizes with my thoughts. If you like details : Called in the morning, left my number and got a call back by an enthusiastic Ruben who asked a very sound question : Is this your first typewriter? There's this generous quality that rids the intimidating barrier between these ancient machines and newbies like me. He proceeded to tell me about an Olympia he had and asked about my budget, he made a clear counter offer. I went in to see him in a few hours and he had a cute outdoor Covid-friendly set up and where he showed me a beautifully clean / almost new looking Olympia. While it typed very well the incline between the keys felt like It would be awhile till I enjoyed any fluidity in typing. He then brought out my Hermes which he had pre-warned me was going to be more expensive. What I appreciated was that he wasn't pushing the Hermes. He respected my initial budget and said they are both great machines, the main difference being aesthetic. (Lol see attached photo) I typed on the Hermes and the keys felt inviting. I laid down a deposit and Ruben was kind enough to rush my pick up date so I would have it before the holidays. I received photos of the cleaning process and on the day of pick up he took the time to explain every key and every function patiently. Beyond the satisfaction of trying before buying, Ruben definitely gives you a machine you will work with. I'm thankful that he chose to replace the original feet with new ones that grip - I was being sentimental. Now, I can't imagine how annoying it would have been to try typing on the original dried out mint feet. If you want to have your typewriter last forever, Mr. Ruben Flores is the man. I met him in 2015 when a sudden artistic whim brought me to start delving into typewriters. The culprit, a can-do-the-job Olympia SM-7, was taken into his humble, yet magical shop, and Ruben was gracious to take a look at the machine, and clean it. Back then, I didn't have a budget to commit to a full recondition, but I knew I was surely going back one way or another. Fast forward to 2018-I was able to save up, and contacted him to schedule a recondition. It took him a month to do it, even though he has a three-month waiting list. Today, I have a pristine Olympia that can easily be mistaken for a new product. It types like a dream, and he made sure to explain to me the ins and outs of the model, and taught me of ways to take care, and maintain it. He also pointed out the exacting changes he made to each part of the device. Initially, he didn't come to me explaining the intricacies of it, but you know someone is good at what they do when you just feel it in the result, and you just have to ask for it yourself. For those who wish to engage in the process, you will need to invest on your machine. I fully believe it is a lost art, and for someone like him to be masterful in the craft at this day and age is just a wonderful reality. I assure you, it'll be worth it.
