This is not a comment that is acceptable in any setting, but abhorrent when it's said in front of a child who has the same last name. It represents our family, our culture, our heritage. If you are trying to provide culturally competent care, (which any agency that represents the government should be trying to provide), this is not the comment you make. My husband simply responds, "It's not too long." She looks visibly upset, and proceeds to be rude and abrasive in her tone and dismissive hand-waving for the duration of the appointment. All of this with our child present who is confused as to why this lady is "being mean." Read their reviews. This is not an isolated incident. It's what they're known for. Disgraceful experience. Never going back.

The guy I interacted with was polite, helpful, and efficient. Overall a good experience. While waiting in line, I had the pleasure of witnessing a few "difficult" transactions. Every single one was the customer's fault. Look, if you don't know what you want, and can't make a decision when the employee clearly lays out your options for you, I have no idea what you expect them to do. They're neither magicians nor therapists. I'm not saying this post office doesn't make mistakes or that every employee is terrific all the time, but in my sample, they were 100% blameless. The people working at this post office deal with some of the rudest, stubbornest, most ill-prepared customers I've ever seen, and they do it with a level of patience and courtesy I could only dream to achieve. Surprisingly it was returned to sender, although the name and address were correct. The postage paid was $25. We returned to the post office today with the package to resolve the issue. The new employee was the only one on duty as it was not busy. She understood what the problem was and said there was nothing she could do, she would call the supervisor upstairs. After waiting 20 minutes, Ann Marie the supervisor came to the counter. She understood what the problem was and took the package into the back. After another five minutes of waiting another employee, who was not Ann Marie the supervisor, comes to the counter and exclaims there is nothing they can do there! It is not there problem! We would have to pay another $25! She began shouting insults! We could see Ann Marie and another employee peeking out from the back to the front, clearly staying in the background and letting the unhinged employee wearing a t-shirt, no indication of USPS on her clothing, handle their situation. This belligerent employee's behavior was erratic and unpredictable. We left that post office and will never return, after 40 years.

Later I looked at my receipt to see when the item would arrive and I noticed he shipped using 1 day priority mail, that is not what I needed nor wanted. All I needed was stamps. There isn't a stamp machine, so into the line I went. It took 20 minutes with two people in front of me. I can't entirely blame the staff. People always seem to want to discuss postage options with the clerk at the post office. Perhaps doing some research before the store, or while waiting in line, could save everyone some time. In the end, be ready to spend some time in line. Pack your patience and you'll be fine!
