As much as I try to not turn in negative reviews, here I am. I cringe when I have to go to the San Pablo Ave post office. I only do so to pick up something I have to sign for (1x every 2 months). I used to work for the post office, inside, like these people. (I chose to leave, to return to college) Anyway, I don't understand why they seem to share a uniformly depressed attitude and/or seem as if they're being held hostage. Post office pay is great & in these times there are many positive, quick people who'd be happy to take over their positions --- don't they realize how fortunate they are? (The San Pablo's antiquated, dusty setting inside and the parking lot swirl outside are almost hilarious.) Go to Albany post office for 1st class service==== and pray that something changes at San Pablo. read more

After only two visits to this office, I have received, on average, very good service. One time was excellent even with a lot of questions and confusion on my side about shipping overseas. The other time was good service, although the person helping me seemed a bit grumpy at first, but eventually warmed up after seeing my smile. In both cases I arrived at time when it was not very crowded, less than a 2 minute wait. The office looks junky, disheveled, with dim lights. With a interior style upgrade and some plants/flowers, it would feel better in there and that might improve everyone's mood. This really applies to most USPS offices. $1,000 would go a long way. read more

FRUSTRATING to deal with this Post Office. Long lines, few clerks. But, most of all misdelivered mail.....every single time there is a substitute mail carrier. They go right by the correct address, but put it into my mail slot at the wrong address. Both parties affected have called the PO repeatedly, but it still happens. I submitted a forwarding notice 2 weeks before my move. Nothing happened. So I put in another request. That didn't work either! 5 weeks later I find that they are returning my mail to the senders which includes payments from clients and bills I'm now delinquent on. So what did I do? I went online to the USPS web site and submitted a complaint. Nothing happened. So I tried again and they forwarded the message to the local post office. An employee called and told me that the mail will be there "soon." Went back to the USPS web site twice more to ask a live agent what to do. "Call your local post office." Online again to get the branch phone #. No answer. 14 rings and a disconnect. Back online to find a fax #. Sent a fax and still waiting for a reply. NONE of these people could access a computer file to bring up my records. Or so they claimed. Apparently the address change is the responsibility of the carrier of the old address. Great. She's known as a woman who hates her job and throws packages into the lobby for thieves to steal. When you speak to her she pretends she doesn't speak English. So folks, want a job that pays more than you make? A job where you don't have to do anything but sit on your big butt and chalk up medical expenses paid by us in the future. A job where 25% of employees apply for disability so they can live tax-free forever. A job where you don't have to learn English. A job where you can abuse the public and do whatever the hell you feel like doing, like smoke a cigarette in your truck with the engine running while you read our magazines. (A known and accepted practice verified to me by postal employees). I'd fire most of these parasites and replace them with the kids who work at my local CVS pharmacy for $10/hour, and who know the meaning of customer service. read more

The worst thing is that it's a USPS store and its slow and lame as always , they made me run for my wife's green card like a mad man. They returned my card back to the Texas post office saying it was undeliverable while they deliver all the advertising crap that they deliver always . Above that the Texas post office never returned my card to the USCIS office and kept it with them and now they don't know nothing about it costing me $450 extra for nothing !! Seriously!!! read more

I want to commend Celia for her excellent customer service today. I had a package to mail for a friend. Said friend had packed several items in an old Amazon box. Shipping cost, with the additional $10 for fragile sticker, would cost over $50. Celia told me that if I repacked it in a free Priority Express box, the cost would be around $25. Celia gave me scissors and packing tape and I repacked the items. The whole operation took no more than 15 minutes and I saved (well, I saved my friend) $25. read more

This is a very unorganized facility. Some days I go in there the package takes 2 days for person to receive and somedays it takes 1 week or longer I always ship at the same rate so it pretty ridiculous. They also occasionally lose your packages. I don't even understand how it's possible when they put them in a bin right in front of you. read more

Terrible. they wouldn't leave a package on my front porch even though i signed the stupid piece of paper that supposedly means they will leave it. Went in to get my package at the office. They couldn't find it. they said they would resend it the next day....without taking any information from me. Still nothing. I doubt I will ever see the package. Huge amount of missing mail in my Po Box, they just ignore my complaints, horrible service.

I've had some mediocre experiences at this office, but, regardless of each occasion's unique charm, the previous reviewer is correct; they are understaffed and slow. I have never waited less than ten minutes for service, though it is [sometimes] with a smile. I have also worked in public and private administration, and, though it has afforded me patience for long lines and procedures, I remain intolerant of failures in customer service, such as the smug incompetence and indifference I encountered today. First of all, I admit that my reason for today's visit represents a relatively inconsequential, and arguably shared, error on my part and that of USPS. Last week, I mailed a postcard, and, because the recipient did not have my address, I also included my new information on the card. I have recently moved, and it seemed like an efficient way to pass it on. I placed the recipient's address at what appeared to be the more prominent addressee location on the card and clearly wrote "TO:" and "FROM:" next to each. I discovered the extent of my folly in entrusting such a complex task to the US postal system when the postcard was mailed to me, despite it being mailed from the same address.The mailperson who picked up the card did not trouble him/herself to notice the issue; nay, it was sent to the routing center, entered (I have since learned) into a machine which apparently only reads the two specific lines on the document, and spits the mail out to a destination. The mailperson who then delivered the mail back to me, stamps conveniently invalidated, apparently also failed to notice of the likeness between sender and destination, nor my annotations. My problem, incidentally, was that the last two lines of my address appeared below those of the addressee--a clear violation of US postal policy! Should I have looked for instructions on the card itself (there are none), or, failing that, under "Addressing Tips + Tools" on the USPS website (http://1.usa.gov/U1PDG), where there is no information about addressing postcards? It vaguely addressed "cards," saying, "Print the delivery and return addresses on the same side of your envelope or card," which is exactly what I did! Unfortunately, my troubles were not to end there: When I, in my innocent belief that customer satisfaction and simple logic would take priority over an honest mistake (theirs), and polite as can be, brought this error to the attention of the obvious talent for disdain that is the person staffing that office today, the complete perfection of this system was explained to me--in repetitive, painful detail, as if I were an unintelligent and somewhat petulant child selfishly but mistakenly hoarding my postal dollars--with some aplomb, and such bureaucratic excellence, one might imagine their office holds seminars on how to divorce customers from any hint of expectation for service or expediency. The clerk who helped me seemed to enjoy conveying USPS' efficient practices, which, it turns out, owed me nothing--that since the postcard had been routed according to the invisible rules that govern their completely automated (except for her, the person who picked up the mail, the person who delivered the mail...) system, the error was clearly mine. And wasn't that lovely? Could I have a replacement stamp? No!! Could I have a label to cover the horrible, misguided errors I had committed? Only if I, contrite in my transgression, would pay for one! Did I know how to address a postcard?! Clearly not! Did I know how to address a letter?! In words as heavy and slow as lead, the procedure was outlined to me! And repeated! It had nothing to do with the matter at hand, but now I'd know better than to address a letter in a way that might also perplex the advanced technology used to expertly route said message, with no possible room for error! The procedure for filling out a postcard was also repeated! Never had it occurred to me that the evident infallibility of space-age mail-routing technology would supersede the value of a human being who might take pride in performing a service with skill or compassion. Never were 29 cents so dearly counted (or whatever the cost of a label!)! I also had to pay the new dollar fee for their "improved," "environmentally friendly" online change of address service. I'm glad if it is environmentally friendlier; I will believe it when I don't receive the half-pound of junk mail that usually accompanies change-of-address proceedings. Otherwise I'm just going to assume the USPS wanted my dollar to bathe with. Or to offer to their mail-routing-machine-god-thing. Silly me for having such expectations of USPS. Twenty-nine cents do not matter much, but it apparently matters enough to the US Postal Service to insult and dismiss me rather than address the error. That is a failure, and it matters. Thanks for nothing, USPS. And thank you especially, El Cerrito office. I wish I could say I'll never visit you again. read more

incompetence on a regular basis. why are we paying taxes for this abysmal service?

A lot of idiots working in these branches. Bad management and customer service. They returned my package and didn't give me the 15 days to pick it up. They didn't even try to deliver it again, they just sent it back. I went to the branch to file a complaint and still to no avail i never received my package. they just sent it back to New York. Both branches suck! So do the couriers. They don't know what the hell they are doing. All bad attitudes and just lost. How much do these guys make?? They just walk around the branch like a bunch of zombies!!! I wouldn't recommend them at all. Avoid sending your packages here at all cost. I'd rather use the UPS store as my mailing address for packages coming in. Garbage! read more

WORST POST OFFICE EVER. I've been on the phone for 25 minutes, and have yet been able to talk to a live person who can (hopefully) tell me why my "out for delivery" package (yesterday) still has not arrived, and why there have been no further delivery updates. I dial different numbers (as suggested by the one employee I was able to speak with), and they all go to a voicemail system that simply makes you wait until being disconnected. LOVELY. I've found outgoing mail from our rental office left on top of a trash barrel in one of our buildings, found school district paid flyers not delivered at all (just stacked on top of mailboxes), and just this week had a package scanned as "refused delivery", sending a vendor into a tizzy. I made two trips 10 days apart, only to be told BOTH times that they were "ordering international postage stamps today." Is this really a post office?? No stamps?? Whaaaat??? UGH. UGH. They moved people along quickly but everyone working in there looked like it was the last place they wanted to be. They were rude when asked questions and acted like they were doing us the biggest favor by mailing our package. I will not be going back but will drive to Albany. read more

This is the worst post office ever. In our neighborhood we regularly get mail that is supposed to go to our neighbors. This happens day after day after day after day. I just confronted the delivery woman and she couldn't care less. How often does our mail go to someone else? All the time!! I've made the mistake of mailing packages from this facility only to learn that it's been MONTHS until they get to their target. The wait time when you go in there is terrible, plus the employees all seem to have really low morale. What is wrong with this place? read more

I have had a post offce box at El Cerrito for twenty years, and I must say it is absulutely the scraggy end. Shame on me for keeping my box for so long. Finally, after years of rudeness and incompetence, and worse, outright theft, I have gotten another box at a perfectly wonderful branch, in Aptos, and I am transferring all of my mail to there. They have routinely put my mail in other people's boxes, lost my packages, broken items. They even lost a check I mailed IN THE POST OFFICE to the postmaster which was self addressed to the postmaster, then they locked my box. The people manning the counter are few and slow, and usually every effort is made to complicate your transaction. The buzzer at the pickup door is always turned off, supplies are sparse. I think the previous yelpers opinion to close this branch and fire the employees is an excellent one. Another check that was supposed to arrive in my box a week ago has disappeared, I found out today. Don't send anything to this branch that is not insured and with signature, or better yet, don't send it through this branch at all.
