The Encinitas Post Office does not answer their phone. Also can not find days & working hours.

The workers up front are generally nice and competent, but there is definitely something wrong back behind the scenes. They have lost my mail, not forwarded my mail, billed my PO box incorrectly, told me my PO box was not paid when I had the receipt right in front of them, and I have even found a strange piece of big blue plastic in my PO box. If you ever have to face the back room door to get vacation-hold mail, get out the cross and wooden stake and wait for midnight. Hollywood needs to make a movie about this place; a hybrid of zombie apocalypse and that new cartoon movie with the slow dmv employees. Honestly I feel like I'm in a third-world country here, fully expecting to trip over beggars as I leave to my car, but no, look, we're in Encinitas. Unbelievable. You know how long it takes to change your address with all the companies when you move? Well I just did, but mistakenly got a PO box with this jack-ass place. It'll be worth it to go through the process again just so I won't have to step foot in here ever again. read more

Should be -0- stars... I forgot to think clearly on Sep 30th when I went down the street to the Encinitas USPS location to mail one of those bubble envelopes w/ CD's inside. I almost always bring anything other than a letter to UPS or FedEx, but it's been so long since I've been to the Encinitas branch, I almost forgot how insanely unprofessional they ALL are. Stop by and view all the drab faces of employees that just don't like seeing customers walk in! They really want your money...they just don't want you! I don't expect hugs and kisses, or even a smile, but the void of human respect at this location is undeniable the moment you arrive at the counter. I previously used the stamp machine to weigh for postage. It was to arrive at the destination on Oct 3. I stopped back in today (11th) to re-mail a duplicate because the package never arrived nor was it returned to me. I simply asked the lady clerk, very nicely, what might have happened and showed her the receipt. She barked, "THERE'S NO TRACKING ON THAT RECEIPT!" She IMMEDIATELY became defensive and claimed I didn't apply the proper postage, etc., etc. Of course, she failed to mention the possibility that the USPS LOST it, which is precisely what happened. Not a frequent thing, but by no means the first time, either. I replied, "so you just threw it away?!". Of course she lacked the intelligence to back up her bad attitude and get herself out of such a stupid excuse. She just 'huffed' more attitude my way and with blatant disrespect tossed my envelope halfway across the building into a basket (yes, I exaggerated a bit). But her hands are as rude as her attitude. I've lived several blocks away for 20 years and have NEVER had a pleasant experience at that USPS Encinitas branch. WHY are they ALL so rude? And it's always been that way. FedEx.....service with a smile...AND...you can actually ask a question without them responding like you're human scum. I ALWAYS dread going to the post office due to slow ass service and long ass lines! However, this post office completely took me by surprise! The workers were happy...YES i said happy and very nice! The manager some Filipino lady was so helpful ad cheery and really makes coming here quite pleasant. I've been here twice and granted it was early so the lines were very short but my experiences both times were both very nice. I don't live in the area but come out of my way to come here because my experience here has been so sweet :) read more

This is a big post office and offers an Automated Postal Center so you can skip the line completely if you don't absolutely need a postmark or have a complex issue. Just don't try to buy stamps with unusual denominations. You'll get a small handful of 2D barcodes instead. read more

I don't have super high expectations of Post Offices. They're a utility. They're just kind of... there. But this one is particularly bad from a customer service perspective. I go to other post offices whenever I can to avoid this one, but unfortunately, this is where all my packages get delivered when they miss me at home, so I can't avoid it. The line is often 20+ people long, and the lady at the package window almost goes out of her way to let you know how little she cares about you, your package, your time, or anything beyond how much she clearly hates her job. read more

If only the whole world worked as efficiently. I had an issue with a package delivery, or lack thereof, and put in an inquiry online. Next day I had a call from someone at the post office, which I missed, and the following day, another call from a different employee. Could not have been nicer or more efficient. Made an appt for a Passport at the Encinitas main office. I was taken immediately by a very knowledgeable woman, who was as nice as could be. She was orderly and made sure I understood everything. The whole process took about 10 minutes. I would have given her five stars but Yelp appears to have a filter that decides what is posted. I wish their phone number had an answering machine that gave general info and that gave the 800 passport number. (I have already lost it or I would give it here). Try calling the Point Loma PO as they have a great answering machine and call you back. read more

The worst service. I stood in line for 20 minutes to buy holiday stamps since I need them for work purposes. The clerk said very lazily, "We're sold out, but you can go to the next counter. You'll be next." I asked her if there was a reason she couldn't find out for me since I'd stood in line forever. She lazily walked over to the next counter and showed me the only kind of holiday stamp they had left but which I could not use. I asked if they should have put up a notice to tell customers they are sold out of certain holiday stamps to save them from standing in line. The answer was a definitive no. I have been trying to locate a pkg. I sent over a week ago to Simi Valley, called Simi Valley Post Office, they said no not here not delivered. Called Encinitas, put me on hold and they never got back, finally went to P.O. and they said s a pkg. like a manila folder, similar to a bubble pkg. is only for letters, if you put something in it (as I did the shape of a tooth paste pkg. that when it was canceled the machine will tear it apart and the contents will fall out, they do nothing to find out the address or tape it up and remail it. So there is NO hand stamping or looking out for pkg. that MIGHT tear, they just let them get lost. All the money we spent on postage is lost, I think lazy ass rules are unacceptable, it is not a facility that looks after your mail but looses, or destroys it. Thanks. read more

These folks work hard and are always cheerful. I love our post office! I'm frustrated with USPS.com, and trying to connect with anyone by phone, but I find the actual post office to be well run and efficient and handy. I'm grateful they are there, and I love my carrier, Jacques. read more

Generally rude customer service reps, I understand that it gets busy but I think the post office is understaffed in the first place. The people that work here are rude and hate their lives. I was going to mail a large envelope but wanted to know what the different rates are for each type to protect it from rain, like flat rate and priority, etc, and just wanted some help. The lady looked at me like I was a doofus and told me it's already in an envelope. I wanted it to be in a flat rate envelope, and she apparently didn't understand that. I go and figure it out myself, and then when I come back in line, she asked why it was in a more expensive envelope, and that I could have had a different one for it... Well that's why I asked you to begin with! Thanks for not only not helping me, but scolding me for "doing it wrong" when I wanted help to begin with. I don't really get it. read more

This post office branch used to be great. It gets a lot of traffic so lines are to be expected. The staff is always pleasant and pretty efficient. In the last few weeks, every package I have sent throughout this office has been delivered in an unreasonable amount of time. In the last 2 weeks I have shipped out 45 packages. 30 of these through encinitas post office. Not one package has been delivered in less than 6 days. 10 packages still haven't been delivered and it's been over a week. Other packages I mailed from other places arrived at their destination in 2 days. Not sure if this is the norm here now. If it is, it will be the worst efficiency of all the San Diego county post offices. I am hoping someone has been on vacation and it will return to the great service we have been accustomed to read more

Horrible customer service. Do not know where the arrogance comes from? The female staff at the counter were rude and impatient.They treated the customers as idiots and as if they were doing a great favor to you. They also boss around and verbally abuse the floor attendant ( woman). Why should our taxes subsidize such a poor public service ? read more

We have a forwarding order in place with this location. They randomly forward about half our mail, the rest goes to the old address, where it is promptly lost. Including things like jury summonses, credit card bills, and DMV renewals, all of which were sent before we could update the address with the senders. read more

I am dealing with the poor delivery of the mail (not just delivered late in the day, but delivered to wrong addresses,) and wanted to talk to the postmaster. I tried twice to phone and cannot even get an answering machine other than one that says, "the machine is off." It is easy not to hear any problems if you just turn your phone off. Undoubtedly the rudest staff in general for a public service establishment. There is literally zero sense of urgency, doesn't matter how long the line gets, and the general sentiment you get from the desk clerks are they are doing you a favor just by standing there. It is almost surprising to see how they interact with clients. It amazes me how many times over the past tree years I have been in this post office while overhearing a heated disagreement between a client and one of the clerks. Most of the time they are very rude, defensive, and argumentative. If this business wasn't a government organization, it wouldn't be open. Go elsewhere if you have the chance. read more

No wonder the Post Office is going out of business. Horrible service! Came in today to apply to replace a lost passport. We are a military family and are being moved overseas. The gentleman who assisted us was very rude and unhelpful. We were not aware we needed an appointment so we asked when the next available was- he informed us it was in 15 minutes. Perfect, we thought,we will just wait! But no. You can't just make an appointment. You have to call a voicemail box, leave a message requesting to make an appointment and they will call you back in "1-2 business days" to schedule. He didn't offer to help us any further and said, "Hey, I'm just doing my job". Very poorly run business! read more

horrible! I have had so much lost mail since moving to Cardiff, when I went into the store I waited 45 minutes to talk to someone who told me my address didn't exist?? I got none of my tax forms and had to request electronic versions of them for tax season. Im still not getting all my mail and no one has been able to help me. read more

I recently had missing packages from an online merchant. They gave me tracking info and insisted it had been delivered to the post office. I contacted the Saturday supervisor who actually took the time to speak to the merchant from my speaker phone. On Monday, still no package had arrived. Again, I contacted supervisor Carrie Mannon, the main supervisor for help on this. Leaving out of town in just a few days I needed that package to take with me. Carrie said the tracking number didn't exist. After 3 days of hassle Carrie figured out the tracking number was not USPS but UPS. Merchant was wrong the entire time on how package was sent. Carrie intercepted package from UPS and held for me to pick up just in time for my trip...Dan my mail carrier was also on alert for it. It s frustrating when your mail is delivered to the wrong address but oh well ...my neighbors luckily brought it to me . However I found out by chance that a package was not delivered to me last week and although their website says a notice was left a few days ago, it was not.! I even went through the garbage to make sure. So now do I miss work and pick it up in time so they don't send it back?? (And then how long will the hassle be to retrieve it without the yellow card??) Maybe it s minor but an annoyance when life is time pressured enough as it is. Some of the staff are frindly and helpful, some not so much. read more

I waited for five whole minutes for the phone to answer, and have been on hold now for 15 minutes....probably while they let the time run out so they can hang up on me and go home. Unbelievable. No wonder the USPS is broke. They have incompetent and uncaring help. Too many errors to think this is supposedly run by private enterprise..but it is....which proves private enterprise is no better. RUDE RUDE RUDE! I will never go back there! The female person (will never call her a lady) made me look like an idiot in front of about 15 people in line, and her coworkers. I rarely send packages so when my nephew prepared a package for me to just drop off (he already made a label and paid for it) she sternly told me it was the wrong kind of box. I tried to ask her why and she just looked at me like I was stupid. Then I tried to explain my situation and she said, "I don't care, you can't send it like that". Then I asked her another question about sending a priority envelope and she bitterly tried to show me what to do, loudly, and I didn't quite understand so I just left close to tears. I'm a college educated woman who owns a very successful business. I don't deserve to be treated like that, no one does. I'm sad customer service has gone completely down hill. We are supposed to help people, not make them feel dumb. I will never return here again. read more

This post office has delivery issues. When I mail a letter or bill payment at this post office using the outside mailboxes, it can take 3 or more weeks for it to arrive to the destination. read more

All these years I thought I was the only one who had nothing but negative things to say about the Encinitas Post Office! lol It is really bad and always has been...it does seem to be some sort of magnet drawing in the rudest and most incompetent employees around. The building and layout and land are one of the wonders of the world...what were they thinking? Worse than a trip to the Encinitas PO (my roommate and I fight over who will go when the need arises) is the home mail delivery. We rarely have the same mail carrier more than a few days here and there, they say we are not assigned to any certain route and whoever has time comes to deliver the mail at the end of their route. There have been times (not christmas even) when the mail is delivered at 8 PM. We watch when expecting a package as the carrier puts the attempted delivery slip in the box and drives on.. never got out of the truck and came to the door. And that means....the dreaded trip to the PO to pick it up...I could write a book on picking up a package at the Encinitas PO...frightening! lol I loved others reviews...still laughing...like the,"to drive to the Post Office in Friday afternoon traffic. On N. El Camino Real, this is like driving through Calcutta- cars stopped end to end for a mile, people beeping horns, cutting each other off." lol So true...I moved here 20 years ago, pre-Calcutta era. lol read more

If I could give zero stars I would! This post office is a nightmare! First, the postal delivery lady decides that she doesn't want to deliver my mail, because there is some construction going on around the property. It is in no way infringing on her ability to put the mail in the mail box. So I'm not getting my mail, and no one has informed me. In fact one time there was a 5 day stretch. I call the post office to express concern, and they put me on hold for 15 min. Then someone gets on the phone, and takes my info, then puts me back on hold. Fifteen minutes later I'm still on hold, so I get in my car, and drive down to the branch. It's now 45 minutes, and I show the lady in the lobby that I"m on hold with this post office, and I'm wondering if someone will take my call. I then ask for a Supervisor. The supervisor then picks up the phone call, and even though I'm in the lobby, refuses to come out and speak with me. She tells me some outlandish story about how another Sup. had taken my call, but had a sudden emergency. She hears my concern about my mail not being delivered, and says she'll call me back the next day. I get nothing. I then call the US Postal main complaint line. In the mean time, the postal lady now refuses to deliver mail on days in which my garbage cans are out. They don't even sit in front of the mail box. It's complete and utter retaliation. The passport service here is AWFUL. Honestly - either this is false advertising (that this is a functional service provided here) or someone needs to be fired/put on performance review. The #760-753-1415 number they provide for scheduling/communication NEVER works --no one answers, there is no voicemail. I finally went TO the post office and saw the passport office door open and asked the lady who apparently handles that service why this was such a problem - she gave me an #800 number to call (!) and also said that the number above was fully functional and gets answered. NOT! Having called that number relentlessly in June, then July and realizing that only the #800 number IS actually functional after my face to face encounter) here I am again in August (they cancelled our passport renewal appointment for our child AFTER hours last night for our appointment scheduled for this AM - both parents/paperwork need to be there together with child for this so we had to coordinate it -- and told us to call back this AM to the number listed above -- surprise, surprise -- no one picks up and we can't leave a message all morning long). For a city like Encinitas, this lack of service is not only embarrassing but unacceptable. I think they are relying on frustrated, high earning taxpayers to go to another location (Carmel Valley) so they can't be bothered. Why would I think anything differently? read more

The service in this post office is awful. The supervisors are not customer friendly and do not try to help customers. I had a package sending overseas. The package went to LA and got returned to me with some code numbers with no explanation. When I went to ask the meaning of the numbers and the reason for return, the supervisor told me I have to go on line and figure that out on my own! I went on line and found out they don't allow sending packages to that destination anymore. I tried to get the postage that I had paid refunded to me and the supervisor told me that they will not refund me even though that package was returned from LA. The supervisors in this post office are very incompetent and not knowledgeable at all. They don't even know which country you can ship items to. I had to do the research myself finding that out. It was their fault to accept a package that they were not allowed to mail but the supervisor was not willing to refund me for the service that they charged but not delivered! I do not recommend this post office to anyone. The supervisors are also extremely rude and impolite in handling the issues. read more
