Usually the line goes quickly. The only thing I do not like about this one, is they don't see to have enough people working. The parking lot is large but does get full during peak times. They have a drive thru that you can drop off your mail also. That makes it easy if it is ready to go and already stamped. read more

As long as you don't have to interact with the majority of the clerks, the experience of mailing will be smooth sailing. In a full service scenario, it shouldn't be a burden to have assistance in identifying the rate you wish to pay when shipping. Apparently asking questions regarding pricing against varying rates is a burden for those that work behind the counter. Please keep in mind there was no line being held up in this process. UPS / Fedex officially have my business permanently! They are gracious enough to be helpful in meeting the shipping rates/ needs for a customer. read more

Do you know what a cake ball is? Well, it's a delicious treat made of cake batter, rolled into little balls, cooked until they're halfway between cake and batter, rolled in delicious frosting, and frozen. They are obscenely delicious. Plus, you get to make lewd jokes about "cake balls" with your friends. "Hey, come gobble some balls with me!" What do they have to do with the USPO? Well, my friend sent me a box via the USPO this week and it was delivered to the wrong address. No cake balls for poor ol' Joe D. By the time the issue was identified, it was too late. Now, mail gets lost from time to time, but in my case, this was the second time in a week that someone else had been delivered my packages. AND, I had been mistakenly delivered other people's packages- on totally different streets. I tried calling the post office yesterday for upwards of an hour, between 1 and 2. No one answered the phone at all. Each time I called, it rang into oblivion, eventually disconnecting. Can you imagine how much easier it would be to deal with this appalling lack of customer service if I had a couple cake balls to munch on while waiting for someone to pick up? Finally, I had to drive to the Post Office in Friday afternoon traffic. On N. El Camino Real, this is like driving through Calcutta- cars stopped end to end for a mile, people beeping horns, cutting each other off. There's probably cattle walking around. I don't know. Anyway, when I got to the Post Office, I located a manager, who was pleasant and helpful and said she'd get to the bottom of it. She left me a follow up voicemail today to tell me that she talked to the carrier, who advised that she had left the package in my mailbox. Which of course, she did- it just wasn't my package. The manager left a number that I should call in case I had any questions. I have been calling this number for a half hour and no one has picked up yet- it rings twenty times then cuts off. The one star isn't so much for the lousy delivery service as it is for the almost entire absence of customer service. In two days of calling the post office during normal business hours, not once has anyone there picked up the phone. My tax dollars at work, helping someone else enjoy my cake balls. read more

I went in person to send a Certified Letter. There was a line, which I expected, but what I didn't expect was for there to be absolutely no pens. So I could not fill out my form while I was in line because I didn't have a pen. Then when I got to the front of the line, I had to get out of line to complete my document. There was a woman in front of me with some similar issue so we both had to wait again. I asked the counter person why there wasn't any pens and she went into this tirade about how they've tried everything and how people even take them when they are attached to the table. How about you loan me a pen for my driver's license? I would be willing to do that if I can just get out of these darn lines! But I digress. I got my form finished, but I had crossed something out, and the lady said that I should complete a NEW form. She wouldn't let me do it at the counter, even though I said that by the time she got done ringing me up I would be finished. Of course it took me 10 seconds to complete it, and I had to wait another 5 minutes in... you guessed it, the line. All I can say is THANK GOODNESS FOR EMAIL. read more

Note from the Author: If you will be mailing your taxes and/or any other highly confidential/important documents, you may want to read this before your visit. I hope my experience can help other tax filers select the most secure option and perhaps bolster the training for employees during tax season. With that said, this was my experience: Scenario: I arrived to the post employee's window with my tax documents sealed in a Priority Mail envelope. I selected Priority service as this was one of the fastest delivery options (1-3 business days ) with tracking. However, when she was processing my package, she came across as a pushy salesperson because she was suggesting certified add-on services after telling me that Priority's tracking and receipt already provide me those features. I naturally thought why would I pay extra if the proof of mail is already built into the Priority's tracking and the receipt of my transaction shows the post date. She then said, yeah the certified is typically used for people that don't use priority. I asked her again if it was already built in and if so, why was she trying to sell me something that was already included. I was so confused and sincerely wanted her to clarify. She just replied, just send Priority; so I did. BIG MISTAKE! As it turns out, my tax documents have been stuck in, "Transit to the next location" for almost a week. After submitting a report for lost/late mail, I did a bunch of research online and it turns out that: 1. Your Priority tracking number and receipt show you mailed it on the date; HOWEVER, they are only active for a limited time on the USPS website and apparently the USPS doesn't keep copies of receipts on file 2. If you want to extend the accessibility of your Priority tracking number on USPS website, you will have to pay an additional cost online 3. Certified Mail option is NOT the same as Priority tracking, as it is a hard copy document that does not expire and it has its own number and barcode that if God forbid your Priority tracking envelope is in "Transit to next location" limbo, then USPS has another bar code to locate your item. Moral of the Story: 1. Certificate of Mail should ALWAYS be used on ALL important/date sensitive documents such as filing Taxes. 2. Employees should be able to easily explain the difference between Priority tracking and Certified Mail Tracking (especially since priority tracking expires from the USPS website after a certain time) 3. Customers should sign up for email/text updates when sending a package with a USPS tracking number, so they are immediately notified of all activity and can promptly file a missing/late report if item enters into a holding pattern of "Transit to next location" Hope this helps everyone and calms any tax season stress. read more

I'm starting to get a nice collection of "the Post Office sucks" reviews on my Yelp page. Props to me! As mentioned in a one-star review I wrote for the Mira Mesa Post Office, I have to ship poster tubes internationally from time to time. For whatever reason, these packages tend to get crushed at a higher rate if I use UPS--and no one uses FedEx for these types of packages. So, unless I want to go to a mailstop where they won't do my international shipping paperwork correctly and I'll be ass-out if/when the package is lost--the Post Office is, frustratingly, the only remaining option . Unfortuantely, when I go there I can't use the automated USPS teller for these packages because the tubes are longer than the automated teller box will accept. So not only do I have to deal with the Post Office--I have to deal with Post Office *employees*--one of the worst regular experiences of my month. Though the waits are shorter, the clientele less disconcerting/annoying and the building is cleaner than the near-my-work Mira Mesa Post Office (that I ripped on in another review and now desperately try to avoid)--the employees here are even more rude than at Mira Mesa. Unbelievably so! I challenge anyone to find someone pleasant to deal with here. I've gone here for the same purpose on at least a dozen occasions and everyone I've dealt with has been seemingly pompous, idiotic, or-on-the-verge-of-hanging-themselves-in-their-shower-as-soon-as-they-get-off-work morose. The last time I was there, the male teller/post office jockey refused my credit card on something I was attempting to ship because I have "SEE ID" on the back rather than my actual signature. I've had my card this way for YEARS and never had a problem (at this post office or anywhere else, and consumer groups often tell you not to sign them). But apparently "Post Office Policy" is to refuse the card in such cases no matter what other valid identification you might have. WTF is this a-hole's problem? A few weeks before that I had to file an insurance claim where some fully-insured artwork sent to me in a tube had been annihilated in shipping. First question from the esteemed insurance/case specialist there: "how do we know this wasn't smashed on your doorstep after we delivered it safely?" The tube was literally torn in half and I live in a nice neighborhood--you insulting bitch--that's how I know. I'd like to give that woman some advice: please just silently fill out the papers, keep your trap shut, and get me out of there as soon as possible. Seriously, I hate the Post Office. Is there a single Post Office within 10 miles of anywhere I go where I won't have to deal with this level of incompetence and rudeness? Maybe I'll try the charmingly dilapidated Encinitas Post Office on the 101 next time. It can't possibly be any worse. read more

I went to this Post Office this morning and, like a stereotypical millennial, I don't really know how to ship packages. My one year old was running around, making a mess, and intermittently crying. Olivier was so incredibly kind to me that I almost cried myself. He found the correct box for me to use and got me squared away quickly and told me not to worry about the mess the baby was making. Sending a package isn't stressful but sending one while your toddler runs around with your wallet and tries to take boxes from strangers is. Olivier was amazing and put me at ease. It's the first time I've been there but I just wanted to say that I had a great experience! read more

If I can avoid this post office, I do. The personnel do not answer the phone - I have been calling on and off for hours at a time. THey say their phones are "just so terribly busy." Hah! Clerks are rude. Customer service is dreadful. They ask so many annoying questions in the guise of "security" or upcharge the customer (do you want stamps? insurance? confirmation? fries with that?). And then there are the long long lines which are long in part because of the annoying questions which people then ponder and ask a return question. And to boot, it's freezing in there much of the year, they have a water-sucking lawn, all the plants are overwatered, there is standing water outside in the planting beds which also have moss growing in them, and mold growing up the walls. As well, they don't maintain the strip of land to the east on El Camino Real which is really ugly . This post office is very wasteful of resources when they could set a good example by doing a xeriscape. Such waste of resources. If this was a private business they'd never survive. read more

It's a post office, so there's no chance at a five star review obvi, but this post office makes some things really easy. At this point, the only reason for me to go to a post office is to ship an item that sold on eBay. Being me, I don't want to talk to anyone, and I want to go at later hours when the post office is usually closed. Luckily, this post office features THREE automated postal centers and has ample priority mail packaging supplies to handle shipping after hours. The parking lot is ample, the post office is spacious, and the emphasis on the automated postal centers is second to none. I come in every once in awhile and send off a package for a friend or a fun random gift exchange that I like to participate in and they always save me the most money while getting me what I need as far as tracking and signature confirmations. Passport info is really really easy here and I'm happy that they have a new form to fill out rather than going in and putting together a bunch of stuff in the store. read more

Cesar the clerk should be fired ASAP if he hasn't been already no customer should be treated the way I was today. Beware! He circled the survey and even wrote his name said to write a complaint but I'm taking this one step further! I brought a mug and card to send out my dads birthday and brought my box in which I wanted to pay for packing peanuts and to have it taped and labeled. He blatantly lied and told me they don't do digital labels even though I've have it done multiple times there and that they don't have bubble wrap only a little square he ripped off. He gave me a blank label paper no pen and told me to grab any tape I wanted it's okay if it's not opened yet? What kind of clerk lies to a customer? I came back to ask for more bubble wrap and he KEPT HIS BACK TO ME and started talking I couldn't believe it. Wouldn't offer scissors unless I said please? That's illegal no establishment has to make me say anything before purchase. He said they don't have bubble wrap but I look behind me and there's stacks of bubble wrap. Cesar needs to be fired. It's gets worse guys. He tells me that I need to come prepared because they don't provide PENS? But yet I wanted it to be a digital label why would I need to bring a pen? Cesar is incompetent and should be fired, he then says that now I have to pay $4 for tape $4 for bubble wrap and $8 for the box that's over $16. He also says that he can't please everyone and to write a complaint? Is that the most poor customer service ever. This clerk lied on camera even wrote his name on my receipt like a dumbass and expects no repercussions. It's a post office- Think like 2 steps above the DMV. They are frequently out of Priority Mail boxes and labels, which is quite annoying, because after all, that's part of what they do. The clerks are nice and quick. For whatever reason, this post office seems to attract the absolute worst of the worst postal shippers. People who get to the front of the line without anything filled out. People who ask 43 questions about the difference between classes of mail and can't make a decision on which one to chose. People who ask what artist painted the latest stamp. People who make you want to yell at them to move it or lose it. Those people are attracted to this post office, so beware. read more

Being a distribution point for Encinitas, it's fairly busy throughout the day. Of course, during holidays it's a clusterfrak, but the postal staff is really good at working with you personally. They've saved my ass a few times too like the Cardiff Post Office. However, 3.5 stars because we've had issues with mail delivery since my work and our projects rely heavily on proper notification of neighbors - put simply, and the answer is a bit more complicated sadly. Complaining about the post office is like complaining about going to the DMV; it's never going to be a pleasant experience. Long lines are inevitable and the employees are as happy as their customers after an extensive stay in line. That being said, this USPS location is superior to many others that I've frequented in the past and I generally only have positive experiences here. Today I was helped by Jill who was one of the friendliest postal workers I have ever encountered. I had some questions about package sizes and corresponding fees and she answered them in detail with a smile on her face. As with all post offices, this location is still home to some unhappy employees who are quick to shove you out the door, but most often I'm helped by someone with a genuine smile and a helpful demeanor. The new automated machines that allow you to ship a package yourself are an excellent way to skip the line, though if you aren't too quick with computerized purchases the line may still the best way to go. I've never waited more than 15 minutes in line during their busiest hours because they generally have enough people working to cover the amount of people that come through the doors. The machines are very self explanatory but you will find yourself there for quite some time if you have more than 1 or 2 packages to ship. You have to go through the same lengthy process each time you put a package on the scale, but again, the machines never have lines. I think a lot of people are afraid of them so they avoid trying it out. Perhaps my frequently positive experiences correlate to the attitude that I bring to the post office whenever I visit, perhaps I just get lucky. Either way, I see no reason to go out of your way to avoid this location. read more

It's the post office... I like this location because they have more than the usual number of self service kiosks which is nice. I've been to plenty of post offices where the wait for self service can be as long or (depending on the skill level of those in line) longer. The postal workers behind the counter are generally friendly and even during the holiday crush this year managed to be smiling. read more

For two Christmas rushes in a row, Cesar has come to my rescue! With good humor and flawless execution he has patiently gone above and beyond typical customer service. He stepped in and moved my 11 boxes through the multiple steps of getting these assorted gifts into Priority Mail envelopes and processed... right at closing. He graciously kept the line moving, locked up the supply room, guided customers on how to operate stamp machines and lowered the stress of my trying to accomplish an impossible mission by joking with one of his female colleagues who teased him unmercifully. Where there could have been exasperation and high anxiety, there was laughter and good cheer and high performance. Cesar was pro-active, kind and quick as was his colleague who wrapped the bulky envelopes with tape and TLC...all this past closing on Dec. 22nd! Cesar stayed to make sure all went well and wound up locking himself out in the process. I was blown away that he recognized me, even down to the same packaging I used a year ago. He and his colleagues are rare gems who make a pressure-tested post office a highly efficient, yet warm and friendly place. Kudos! read more

When an employee is so incompetent that the employee rudely refuses to provide a customer with a form necessary to purchase post office services for business purposes, there is something really wrong. I asked this employee at least 3 times to provide the form. She flatly refused with a rude tone. After I purchased my postage I asked again and the employee begrudgingly pretended to look for the form, which is an everyday form.for a common service not some unique hardly ever used form. When she pretended not to find them she rudely told me that if I really wanted the forms I would have to wait while someone went to the stock room to look for them. Since I didn't believe it and had other things to do and considering the lack of service I had already received, I declined. And the post office lost the money I was going to pay for the service. And as standard procedure the website for completing a "survey" was brought to my attention by the employee. You've got to be kidding me! This employee has been rude to me personally in the past several times. I have always let it go. But I just couldn't let this go today. This is unacceptable and I wonder where the supervisors are at this location and how to get in touch with them. Even the receipt I received for the postage I bought doesn't have the local phone number. So it is impossible to let a supervisor know of such blatantly bad customer service. However, all the other employees at this location have been very helpful and courteous over the years. Makes me wonder why this employee continues to get away with this behaviors since this is not an isolated instance. read more

Since moving to High Country Villas in March of 2016, my wife and I have experienced a couple of disturbing Encinitas mail carrier-related incidents. We have had our outgoing mail dropped in the middle of the street by a young male carrier with no satchel. I found three OF MY OUTGOING letters in the street in front of my neighbor's house. When I saw the carrier was just across the street still doing deliveries, I asked him where was his satchel? He said he didn't have one. When I asked how my outgoing mail, which I was now holding, came to be lying in the middle of the street, that carrier said: "oh wow, those must have fallen out of my pocket. Sorry." I originally reported this to Carrie Mannon. This young carrier's apathy and disrespect was blatant, and he didn't seem to care, or at all proud to be a USPS carrier. What happened to the pride of the mail service? Next, an orange "Beware of Dog" warning form (PS Form 1778) was found BY ME in the middle of MY street while on a random walk with my dog, ironically. Apparently, Edgar had dropped it "by mistake". It had MY home address on it and claimed that "We had a large dog that charged." IF THE HOMEOWNER ASSOCIATION GOT A HOLD OF THIS INFORMATION IT MIGHT BE GROUNDS FOR A FINE OR EVEN EVICTION. No one in my neighborhood is allowed to have a large, ill-tempered dog. And we don't. We have a 48-pound, 10-year old female Border Collie who is an extremely well-behaved service animal. I also reported this incident to Carrie Mannon. Edgar, who was the carrier in this incident, displayed a profound apathy, and "who cares" attitude...it was really disappointing. And Ms. Mannon was less than sympathetic listening to my complaint about the mishap!! She went silent in the middle of the conversation, and it was obvious she couldn't wait to hang up, and she could care less as well. Finally, I phoned today to report another younger USPS carrier on my street with no satchel. He said his name was Happi, and that he forgot his satchel. Happi was here for the first time from Vista, filling in for the day, and had no experience with this route. I was told by Carrie Mannon when I phoned on the two prior occasions, that it was USPS policy that carriers wear a satchel to deliver the mail, to prevent all types of mistakes from happening, especially with new and junior carriers. Today Carrie seemingly changed policy, and said since "it was a light mail day; no one had to wear their satchels." Is Ms. Mannon's decision to NOT wear satchels today a reasonable one? Does she actually have the authority to change policy? What is the policy regarding wearing satchels to deliver the mail? Are we the only postal customers enduring weird things with the Encinitas mail service. Ms. Mannon next asked me if I had any outgoing mail today OR had I had an incident today. Both answers were "no". She then went on to say: "well, if nothing bad has happened today, why are you even calling me (AKA why are you bothering me)? All I really wanted from Ms. Mannon was for her to clarify the policy on USPS carriers using satchels to keep mistakes from continuing to happen. So around and around she went, and took me on some confusing story about the use of satchels. Basically, NO ANSWER! So here is a list of the social skills Supervisor Carrie Mannon displayed during our phone conversation on September 2, 2016: lying to a customer, argumentative, apathetic, unapologetic, condescending, and impatient. Carrie Mannon does NOT demonstrate the attributes of a USPS worker, let alone a supervisor! I need to send a shout out to the new San Diego Postmaster Andre, the genius I met yesterday in his car while he was observing and following an OUTSTANDING CARRIER with nearly 30 years of mail carrier service, as if she was a rookie. Andre, the one who hired Carrie Mannon, had absolutely NO time for me to talk about Carrie Mannon while he was at a full stop, doing his observations. He chose to roll up his window instead of listening to feedback regarding the Encinitas Garden View USPS facility supervision staff, specifically Carrie. Great customer service, USPS. Way to go, Andre...you're as incompetent as your supervisor! read more

I have never ever shipped anything ever before and I went in there it was some what crowded because other people were shipping off things and i sent 2 large boxes and I asked one of the workers what I was supposed to do because I really didn't know exactly and I didn't get his name but he said that my addresses were labeled correctly so I got back in line we're then the kind nice people in the back let me get back in the place i was i'm and then the lady at the front made it quick and easy and i spent half of what i originally thought I was gonna spend which is really good over all i thought it was a really good experience for my first time and the prices were acceptable read more

I was told by the post office that they would not mail my US certified letter because the portion that is my receipt was not filled out. This post office sucks. The lines are long, the parking lot is full and the people are dumb. I've been here a few times, and both times the service is horrendous and SLOW. I just don't understand hoe mailing stuff can be so complicated! I tried to mail by priority medium box today and had it all taped up, except for a little corner needed some tape. In the past, they would just tape it up for me, but now since they can't manage their money because they overpay their dimwit employees, they wanted to charge me $4 for a roll of tape to tape up the inch of box that needed some tape. ABSURD!!! I hate this post office and will travel far and out of my way to avoid this crap hole. read more

The worst post office in America I would bet. I have been here about 10 times an the workers here are the rudest people I have ever came across. All the pens in the place are ripped off the chain and they will not let you barrow a pen. I saw the customers sharing another customers pen all the way down the long line. There is a little Asian guy an he is the worst by far, he is rude, sarcastic, crude and has no sense of customer service. If u need to go to post office hit the the smaller one in encintias off coast hwy 101. If you need a passport make sure to make an appointment( closest appointment is a month out). Even though the passport post person was just standing there an the sign says 9-3( or some time frame). Most other post offices don't require an appointment. They really are the rudest people I have ever ment even when u try to be polite. Horrible place all together. read more

They never have the appropriate forms out to complete before you get to the front of the line. At least one of the automated shipping centers is out of order at all times. I consider myself to be an expert in the post office selection in the Carlsbad/La Costa area and this is by far the best. You wouldn't think mailing wedding invitations would be a nightmare, but with a rate hike in the middle of your rsvp window and the bump factor of a few crystals, it was dreaded. This post office (out of La Costa, downtown Carlsbad, and Vista) had the best selection of stamps. They also knew their stuff. All of them have long lines and too many forms/options. This is your best option! read more

Should be -0- stars... I forgot to think clearly on Sep 30th when I went down the street to the Encinitas USPS location to mail one of those bubble envelopes w/ CD's inside. I almost always bring anything other than a letter to UPS or FedEx, but it's been so long since I've been to the Encinitas branch, I almost forgot how insanely unprofessional they ALL are. Stop by and view all the drab faces of employees that just don't like seeing customers walk in! They really want your money...they just don't want you! I don't expect hugs and kisses, or even a smile, but the void of human respect at this location is undeniable the moment you arrive at the counter. I previously used the stamp machine to weigh for postage. It was to arrive at the destination on Oct 3. I stopped back in today (11th) to re-mail a duplicate because the package never arrived nor was it returned to me. I simply asked the lady clerk, very nicely, what might have happened and showed her the receipt. She barked, "THERE'S NO TRACKING ON THAT RECEIPT!" She IMMEDIATELY became defensive and claimed I didn't apply the proper postage, etc., etc. Of course, she failed to mention the possibility that the USPS LOST it, which is precisely what happened. Not a frequent thing, but by no means the first time, either. I replied, "so you just threw it away?!". Of course she lacked the intelligence to back up her bad attitude and get herself out of such a stupid excuse. She just 'huffed' more attitude my way and with blatant disrespect tossed my envelope halfway across the building into a basket (yes, I exaggerated a bit). But her hands are as rude as her attitude. I've lived several blocks away for 20 years and have NEVER had a pleasant experience at that USPS Encinitas branch. WHY are they ALL so rude? And it's always been that way. FedEx.....service with a smile...AND...you can actually ask a question without them responding like you're human scum. The workers up front are generally nice and competent, but there is definitely something wrong back behind the scenes. They have lost my mail, not forwarded my mail, billed my PO box incorrectly, told me my PO box was not paid when I had the receipt right in front of them, and I have even found a strange piece of big blue plastic in my PO box. If you ever have to face the back room door to get vacation-hold mail, get out the cross and wooden stake and wait for midnight. Hollywood needs to make a movie about this place; a hybrid of zombie apocalypse and that new cartoon movie with the slow dmv employees. Honestly I feel like I'm in a third-world country here, fully expecting to trip over beggars as I leave to my car, but no, look, we're in Encinitas. Unbelievable. You know how long it takes to change your address with all the companies when you move? Well I just did, but mistakenly got a PO box with this jack-ass place. It'll be worth it to go through the process again just so I won't have to step foot in here ever again. read more
