Post offices get a lot of grief no matter what. They're run like a business, but tied up by lots of…read morefederal regulations that limit what they can do to operate more efficiently. So I tend to cut them some slack, and rate one post office against other post offices rather than businesses that are free to operate the way they want. The exterior of the building is run down, almost ugly, but the interior is up to date. The lobby is open 24 hours, and the automatic postage machine is excellent. In addition to weighing stuff, it measures dimensions -- and asks whether the weight looks right. The user interface is mostly good, with minor exceptions: - putting the most expensive mailing options first, ahead of more frequently chosen options, and - asking a few questions that seem to obvious (such as the stuff about mailing explosives). The people are just about always well trained, efficient, and polite. Sometimes they're even friendly. Staffing is usually adequate; lines are generally only long at peak hours or when multiple slow customers tie up more than one counter agent at a time. On my most recent visit, I went for information about passports. I didn't have to wait; they had a poster with all I needed to know on a poster in the lobby. I signed up for an appointment on my phone!

I have had people here who seem like they just wanted the day to end but Debrah W. has been a ray of sunshine when I have worked with her and always happy to help. She even happened to comment that she liked the shirt I was wearing (two others commented on my shirt that week). It is the post office and I've had to wait in the slow lines but Debrah W. has ended the wait with my satisfaction.

I was treated with contempt and not listened to. Apparently, these people don't know their own products. I wonder for all the negative reviews on here, if those people have ever tried working at the government employed post office? I have a feeling it's a very thankless job, doing one of the (seemingly) most important services to all of us who mail & ship (nearly everyone) because we need our mail to get there on time, we needed it there yesterday... when we're often the ones that are rushing to the post office and getting things out not on time or early. Or for new mail carriers that have to remember, (I don't know) a couple hundred addresses and where they're at and how to actually locate some really hard to reach places sometimes. If your place is hard to reach that might be on one's own living situation however, at least until the entire path has been well illuminated. Yes there's always issues with every business, that whole bad egg thing. But I've been having kind & responsive conversations with Robert before he left and with many of the other mail carriers here. In long The PO is the PO pretty much everywhere. But not all of them set up the drop boxes easily, and that's 95% of the reason I go anymore. (I usually ship parcels through private carriers, for whatever reason. Probably because they're closer to my house). This is the closest drop box to my house. Yesterday, during errands, I found that another PO not only has no drop box outside (which I did know), but they now lock their lobby so you can't run in to drop an envelope. So off to Mill Creek PO I ran. Ah, well. What's done is done.

Rather than being patient and helpful, they were snappy and frustrated and impatient. Purple hair lady is one of them. On the other hand, the gentleman, David, who works there is the opposite. Cheerful, patient, kind, and helpful. He makes me want to return for business there! Overall the customer service (besides David) needs to improve. You can kindly educate customers about the processes or misunderstandings without being rude. I'm used to shipping at FedEx or UPS so it's different and a learning curve.

The first year or two of living in Lake Stevens, I was terrified of going to the post office and had multiple pieces of mail and packages misdelivered, only to find the Postal Annex a black hole of unanswered phone calls. You could only file a missing package inquiry after a certain period of time, and when they finally called to follow up, would basically say "we can check but tbh it's very likely gone forever." THIS IS NO LONGER THE CASE. The staff working the counter at the Lake Stevens Post Office this past year (when I attempted to visit again) has been phenomenal. I can only remember Sheena by name, but have been helped by 3-4 different staff throughout the past several months and every single visit has been just stellar. They are SO patient, kind, and professional - especially as I have been attempting to start a small business and figure out the wonderful world of shipping items (which is stressful in and of itself). I haven't received neighbors' mail in a long time, and as far as I know, have received all of mine. I am so appreciative of the current staff and their hard work when they are still so slammed. Thank you for turning my visits from something of dread and panic, to something I actually (weirdly?) look forward to!
