I'd give this post office among the lower end of reviews, not necessarily based upon the employees and that experience more so than it's clientele which tends to seem very sketchy and suspects who appear to be guilty of something not so good. The tell sign and red flag to this location is that the employees are housed behind thick acrylic bullet proof shielding to protect them from violence and robbery. That tells you a lot either about their historical precedent of incidents, the crime blotter trending of the area, or something about the customers who come in that may have the propensity towards violent action more so than let's say the Manhattan Beach or Redondo Beach main post offices which has a friendly, safe vibe to it as well as personal counter interaction (no shields) design. I"d say, even if this is a convenient post office, I'd look for another one. When you drive into the parking lot, you feel like you have to check to make sure your doors are locked, and lock them before you unlock them to get out, then want to do your business and get back in your car and get out of the area as quickly as possible. I'm not sure what can be done to improve this post office other than an overall improvement of the neighborhood itself, unfortunately. It's a pretty bad part of town compared to the neighboring beach cities less than a 10 minute drive away. It's not a race / ethnicity thing per se, it's more of a socio-economic situation and downward spiral of a community that often times repeats the sins of the past and has difficulties gaining any momentum towards improvements. I'd hope the city shows support in building a stronger support system for the residents and lift them up. read more

This post office literally always lags when it receives parcels. A parcel will arrive at this facility, register as "accepted by facility" and stay there, sometimes for weeks without moving at all. There are so many time-sensitive parcels I have ordered and whenever I see that it was dropped off at Hawthorne, I roll my eyes, let out a heavy sigh and resign myself to the understanding that my parcel will be another month. I have to forego doing business with ANY vendors that operate out of Hawthorne because while their products are perfect and they on their end are quick to fill orders, they drop them off at the slowest moving and least efficient USPS office in the region that gives an attitude any time they are called out on it. The people who leave 5 star reviews and claim to have had good service, y'all need to know that that is NOT the norm, a stopped clock is right twice a day so it is possible that once in a blue moon someone has a good experience but every experience I have ever had with this post office has resulted in me looking elsewhere to do business because I am that determined to avoid having my parcels go through Hawthorne. read more

I recently moved to Charlotte NC family lives in Cali sent my nieces some toys I paid 74$ to have the toys arrive today 02/23. The mail lady doesn't deliver until she feels like it according to my sis. It's now 6:52 I was stalking the tracking number at literally 6:20 all the way up until it was supposed to arrive "6:30" I checked at 6:27 and guess what interrupted because of an alleged dog. This is literally the WORST Post Office I have ever been to. The ladies who work here are are RUDE! They bark at you if you're not standing in just the right spot in line, whilst giving ambiguous instructions. Also when they were looking for my package (which they had put a slip in my box but couldn't find,) I could see through a window that they had going a big DISORGANIZED mound of boxes that they were sifting through. The absolute worst post office in Hawthorne! If no employees want to work..DONT! At this point just make this location for PO Boxes and mail drop off only. They give me the run around each time and only after I explain many times that I have a unit, do they release my package. I have yet to encounter worker who doesn't have a bad attitude. My mom tried to send me something from the Hawthorne location on Inglewood boulevard. I am to put it simply - so annoyed. I currently live in Japan and my mom sent me a letter with a very important document over a month ago and I still have not received it and the post office has no idea where it is. The document she sent costed me $85 and was an important IRS document for me working in Japan. I've had important documents sent to Japan and they were received within 1-2 weeks. There's literally only 1 Tokyo, Japan, so I don't know how you lose a piece of mail. It's not that hard. I've already been in Japan a month and a half now and I am so frustrated that I will probably have to request ANOTHER document from the IRS for another $85. My mom will have to submit it for me which is a hassle, and then she will have to send it to me AGAIN, through a better post office. This whole process will probably take another 2-3 weeks or even a month since it takes a while to get IRS documents meaning I will probably get the document in November. I got to Japan late August... and will be here until mid December. I have had to go almost this whole trip with my money on hold. I shouldn't have trusted this post office to be able to send a letter internationally I guess.. didn't know it was that hard. If there is a negative rating to this PO location, I would! They misdelivered my package to the wrong address, and I am in awe of their incompetence and process to make it right with the people they serve. They delivered my LV luggage tag that I asked a friend to custom paint to the wrong address. Mind you they have scanners that will prompt when the package is scanned away from intended address, but their carrier still left my package in that mailbox! Customer service assured me to resolve the issue and make it right with me but call I got was that they can't do anything about my claim. They advice to ask the sender or my bank for refund! This is no corporate business but a struggling artist who tryna make some money while in pandemic, and this USPS just straight up encourage asking refund from the sender whose fault is employ USPS' service - no accountability from USPS! They prefer you to put insurance on every package then we should just use UPS if I had to add insurance on everything I send through USPS! USPS acknowledged that they left my package at the wrong address, BUT they have no policy in place to protect people they serve from their own incompetence! read more

She ask if the shipping label is on it(which it was). Tells me to pass the package then says "oh we also need a return label". Why didn't the other girl tell me that?! I recieved a confirmation text that my package is been delivered a day before but they were closed already. I came today to pick them up and the employee can't find them. Then she goes and said come back tomorrow because the p.o. box lady is not here. I explained to her I don't need to come back another day for anyone to help me pick up my package. This package is set to be delivered since Wednesday and it's already Friday and showed delivered already. She said there's nothing they can do. Come back tomorrow. The best part is the complete lack of empathy they give you when they let you know that you just waited a month for an appointment that was arbitrarily cancelled. This location is a good example of why the Post Office needs to be privatized. These workers have no regard for anyone at all because they can not get fired. A delivery guy from this location actually started cussing me out because I wasn't available for a package. He was mad because he had to carry something heavy twice. He literally used the F word in public with no regard. If you guys don't know, it is a federal crime to send a regular mail other than the post office. UPS and Fedex document services are only for urgent mail. So if you want to send your auntie a nice mail about your vacation and send it UPS or FedEx you have just broken federal law. There have been cases when the USPS actually opened UPS and FedEx next day documents to make sure that they were in fact "urgent" documents. They have an illegal monopoly on mail. They are a quasi government entity also. They are profitable but no one is certain where the profit goes. Every time there is talks of selling it to a private company (Staples, UPS, Amazon, etc), these workers actually start doing things, in form of protest. They can sure protest like champs, but moving 10 feet with a 5 lbs box ruins their shit. There are good postal workers, but it is sad that there are locations like this ruining the image for everyone else. Fuck this place. read more

Wow... I must agree with the other yelpers. This particular post office is very understaffed and always crowded. The lines are always long because there are only TWO people working at the windows. The situation became even worse when the EL Segundo branch closed for repairs. I believe that most of their customers were transferred to this facility (Big Mistake). The staff can be rude, dry, and nonchalant. There are times you can get them to smile, but that's usually on a slow day and early in the morning. *Side Note - Parking sucks due to the apartment complexes utilizing the spaces, so go around to the back of the building* read more
