While away from Chicago Illinois for the weekend for CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, I had no interest in waiting days to ship my postcards once back in Chicago. I was grateful that this US Post Office was near the Indiana Convention Center where the Health & Fitness Expo was held, because it allowed me to ship out my postcards and other mail I had brought with me while in Indianapolis. When I walked in there was only one customer inside, but not in line though. I waited briefly before being acknowledged by the clerk who at the time was speaking to her co-worker. My visit ended up being in-and-out because there were not any other customers. As someone who visits post office locations regularly whether it be for Poshmark or eBay shipments, the clerk was respectful during our brief encounter. I was on my way in minutes after she presented me with stamps for my postcards and took them after. I am terrible at doing the surveys on the receipts pertaining to my visits, but rest assured, I always share a review based on my experiences. Waste and is it fraud? I had a package that was mailed at the end of March to me here in central Indiana. The package was dropped off in Portage Indiana and passed through their post office on the 30 of March, today April the 6th a semi trailer mail is sitting in Kansas City Kansas. The parcels have been there since the 2 of April. I am blown away that the Indy facility is so backed up that they need to send our mail to Kansas City, Kansas via Chicago just to sort? I am flustered for the post office informed me that it will be sent back to Chicago and than on to Indianapolis to be distributed to the cities and towns in Indiana. Diesel prices are over 5.00 dollars a gallon. They can send our mail all over the country and next they will be raising prices to adjust to their waste. The USPS should be done away with. Every federal agency we have is absolute trash. You can't even get mail to its proper location on time and yall don't allow us any real recourse. Every post master I have ever been in contact with should be called a puppet master because they don't care about you or your packages. They don't care if you get your medicine when you need it. They don't care if you get your package when you paid for it to be delivered. They make it impossible to get a refund when they don't get your package to you like they are supposed to. I recently visited to send off my passport for renewal and have my passport photo taken. Ruth was extremely efficient and knowledgeable about the process and made it way less stressful than I had initially anticipated. We were able to take the photo on site, finish the forms and package everything with TLC. I have to say, my passport is my most prized possession so I especially appreciated Ruth's level of professionalism and confidence throughout the process. I am giving a two because the hours are better (open a bit later until six thirty) than any other usps location in the vicinity. However in spite of the ladies knowing me and having sold me first class postage and assisted with delivering my mail before, today I was given a run around. It's extremely difficult to navigate the passport process using the usps website. The web portal is the only way they allow you to book a passport appointment which federally is the only way to get the passport. Today I had a scheduled appointment at this location 125 South street to have the photo and the passport done. Recently my luggage was lost at an Amtrak terminal in Reno. So I came with my license and a DS-11 form like the site said to be prepared. The clerk assisted me there was no check in procedure for an appointment and I was told I would have to provide a birth certificate as well or spend 150$ for some other process I wasn't clear about. I was plainly told after some discussion by the passport agent and the clerk that I could come back later today as long as it wasn't right at six thirty to get the work done if I could get a copy of my birth certificate today. I went to the public health building to retrieve a new copy of my birth certificate. Al my identification was lost as mentioned above when I was travelling for health reasons recently. I had my entire paper record of existence in my possession when my luggage was lost. So there was a problem with the printer at the health building at first but I did get a copy after a time delay. Here it's 17:36 EST (INDIANA dst) as I write this review which has taken about ten minutes this far. I am in the parking lot of 125 south street. The same two women were working when I entered and they initially told me that all they could do was the photo tonight because she had 'already closed the passport desk' to which I responded I'd made an appointment just in case for tomorrow afternoon anyway. But I was already here now and it's about an 8 mile drive from my house and I've already run around all day and they are working right now anyway. They told me to come back tonight if I could get the document which I did but the same two still working now went back on their word. A young woman with brown and blonde shoulder length hair and the passport agent a woman with curly short hair. They went back on their word although I followed through. Now I'll have to make an extra trip home and back tomorrow which is not convenient for my schedule or budget. My brakes on my car are also bad so I told them I was going to post a review on yelp because when I was just in there they changed the story on me twice and the younger girl said no Really we are just going to do it all tomorrow, after I got in line. But I only got in line because she initially said she would take the photo tonight. Then a second clerk who has told me before she has attitude problems asked me can I help you although she had certainly overheard this entire exchange right in front of her. I said I'm here to get my photo done by this girl next to you and that's when they denied completely to help at all. Now there is 45 minutes to closing time and the oaperwork and photo could already be filed and getting ready to be sent out. Instead I'm sitting in the parking lot writing this and planning how to get back here tomorrow to waste some more time. In general the passport portal in tools.usps.com is almost unusable it's unbearable it crashes and barely loads on mobile. Blocks out days in advance arbitrarily unless you choose a certain radius. I ordered a wedding gift that was to be delivered June 22, It was not. The company said "oh well" but they couldn't help. I contacted UPS and getting a real person was truly a feat and they to couldn't help (they subcontracted the last leg of the delivery with USPS and they were sorry but it would not make it for the wedding. So I called the Nora post office branch and they answered the phone on my first call, with a "real" person. The agent looked up the UPS tracking numbered and the transfer to USPS number, they took my information so they could keep a lookout for my package when they were sorting incoming parcels and guess what, they called an hour after I talked to them and had found the package. The counter agent said I could drop by and pick it up so I would have it for the wedding on July 23. The "Above and Beyond Person" was Lateeshe, she was helpful and kind. read more

I very rarely went to the post office until I started shipping things out connected to my resale business. This is the main post office that I've utilized since beginning that venture because of the service. The staff are spot on. They are always helpful and they make sure even when it's busy to get you in and out in a reasonable time. If you are just needing to drop off a package and aren't needing a receipt or pay postage, you can simply leave the package on the left hand counter and they'll get it scanned and sent out for you. The only downfall of this location is that it's not open on Saturdays. I'm surprised since it is technically the main post office for downtown. There is always plenty of parking and your don't have to play for it. The parking is limited to 30 minutes, which I am sure is to deter people who aren't using the post office from parking there. All in all as post offices go, this is one that I don't mind returning to get things shipped out. read more

Finally, a Post Office that's open after 5pm! I've been coming to this post office regularly over the last year for everything from stamps to money orders and shipping itself. I have yet to have anything lost and the prices on the items I've purchased have all been standard to cheap. Despite my visits always being late (again, it's one of the only Indy Post Offices open after 5pm) the staff has always been helpful and fast, frequently working together to get through the lines of us latecomers. Lastly, the final cherry on top of this downtown Post Office is the private parking lot! No meters needed! read more

Standing in the shadow of Lucas Oil Stadium on land that once housed the largest saw manufacturer in the entire world, what we have here is a regular ol' post office. You mail stuff here; buy stamps; get a p.o. box. And since it's a headquarters of sorts, I feel my stuff gets to its destination faster when I drop it off here. There is a drive-thru drop box that is collected multiple times a day. And the best part is the cool vintage postal delivery cart. This is one of the most joyless postal branches I've encountered and I actually LIKE going to the old USPS. When I'm at the post office, it means I'm Getting Things Done and that makes me feel good. However, this afternoon's experience at the downtown Indy branch did not make me feel good. I usually try to avoid purchasing mailers at the post office, but I needed one to return a small pair of padded sports shorts. I found their selection of mailers fairly depleted so I picked a 8X12 document-type envelope. I didn't want to waste money on some large padded mailer embossed with Disney characters and they fit okay in the small one. However, when I sealed it, the tab you use to open it came back a little, making a small hole I was worried might snag and become larger during the mailing process. When I got up to the counter, I asked the clerk if I might please have a little tape to secure it. He proceeded to give me sh*t by muttering about "people who stuff things into these packages when they don't fit" and then proceeded to apply a small piece of Scotch tape to my package (but not on the hole) and basically said it was the best he could do. Now, I know it's been hard times for the Postal Service with the E-mails and the Internets and everything, but COME ON! I know, I know what you're gonna say: it's just one small piece of tape for me, but if EVERYONE wanted a small piece of tape then it'd bring the WHOLE SYSTEM DOWN, right?! (I'm downgrading to a 1 if my shorts don't arrive unscathed.) read more

I love the post office. It seems much more patriotic to send a package Priority Mail than to use one of the private delivery services. I also think it's much simpler to use the USPS. You just wrap your package and walk up to the counter. You don't need to have an account, log into their computer, etc. Also, if you use one of their priority/express mail services, they provide the envelope/box there. Weight is not an issue. This is one of the quicker post offices in the city, in my experience. Even during tax time and in the days leading up to Christmas, the line moves quickly considering the length of the line and the cluelessness of many of the customers. This last trip was in the middle of the day (1:30-2pm) and I had to buy pretty stamps for holiday cards. Service was quick, the place was clean, employees were joking around with customers and helpful, and an extra line was even opened when there were more than 5 of us waiting. I have to be honest, whenever I come to the post office in my area, I'm usually impatient if there are long lines there. But having said that, when I do get to the front and at the counter, I realize how more patient the employees have to be, as opposed to us picky customers! So this review is for the friendly and kind customer service at the US post office on South Street. I'm always using their flat rate boxes, as they have saved me plenty of money in the past, but yet I'm still flustered by the ever increasing rates... I guess it's just part of inflation over the years. The nice people working there are my main reasons why I spend my money, I only have to go to the UPS store if I have something really large to send, otherwise, I'm quite happy with the overall experience with the US Postal Service. This review is specific to the U.S. Post Office serving the zip code 46240 (Nora) on the north side of Indianapolis. There is one specific employee there by the name of Arlene Kimball who makes it clear by her attitude and demeanor that she does not want to be there. The Postal Service should grant her that wish and terminate her employment. Today I had an oversize, over-weight envelope which I had understood for security reasons needed to be given to the inside customer service desk rather than being put directly into the drop-off mailbox outside. When I handed it to Arlene Kimball at the inside desk, rather than take it and thank me she told me to put it in the mailbox. No please, no thank you, no smile, no care. Apparently Arlene Kimball has not read that "the U.S. Postal Service has made improving the customer experience a priority. Postal officials see a positive customer experience as a key to revenue generation because customers are more likely to return if their experience was good. As the Deputy Postmaster General Ron Stroman noted to a gathering of postal officials in 2012, 'our customers have choices, they don't have to come to us. How people are treated makes all the difference in the world.'" Someone needs to tell that to Arlene Kimball. read more

The only reason, THE ONLY REASON, this doesn't get 1 and 1/2 stars is because they do tours for kids in grade school to show how the post office works, and they do a special tax time collection until midnight on the filing date. Other than that, the workers are slow and rude, the lines are long, and the parking... there is no parking. As a child I remember being toted to the "downtown" post office when my mom would forget to mail a bill so it wouldn't be late (this was the 90's no online bill pay). I've often trekked to the post office on capital for doing package returns on a deadline. I went in today to buy stamps for my wedding (I was in the area). Going into the post office and waiting in line is like every scene from a movie: everyone is disgruntled. The lady who helped me was really nice and explained how the stamp sheets would appear. She even offered to give me passport applications and I accepted because we needed to renew. She answered my questions about the marriage name change procedure too. She was much friendlier than the employees I've encountered at the castleton and eagle creek branches. I hope this wasn't an oddball encounter and maybe I will go out of my way to go to capital if I'm ever in a situation where I have to encounter an employee. read more
