They stole three packages from me. I wanted to exchange about $200 worth of clothes that I had purchased online for a different size. I dropped off the prepaid packages here and didn't wait to make sure thy were scanned. Well, they were never scanned because the person decided to steal rather than scan. I went to the post office in person and I asked why my packages were never scanned a few days later when I checked the tracking number online and it stated that the items weren't in transit yet. They were just like "we don't know." If you bring a package, make sure it is scanned before you leave. These people are terrible. read more

Unfortunately, this post office is full of employees that do not care about poor treatment of its customers. That includes giving attitude when simple questions are asked. I have been going here for years. Even the newer employees are worse then than the tenured old biddies. This new gal I am sure charged me way over the real postage charges. I've lived next to this post office for about 14 months and I've had to use it a few times. Every single time the clerks are rude, slow, inefficient and could care less how long the line is or how long people have to wait. I guess thats part of having a cozy USPS job, but seriously, provide the same kind of customer service that you would expect if you were out somewhere running errands and waiting in line. Having one clerk with a line out the door is just not good business practice. Its been about 15 minutes, one clerk accepting packages, line out the door. This is standard here. I guess a yelp review of a post office won't really make a difference, but perhaps if you're in a rush and you see this you'll know to go somewhere else. read more

The post office hours listed on this Yelp section for this station are wrong. It is Monday and I just called and they are closing at 5pm - not 7pm as stated. That said - this is one of my least favorite P.O.'s in all of NYC. I am frequently humiliated for not knowing all of the ins and outs of all of the various forms/svcs. - and this is done in a loud voice so that many people will join in the humiliating experience I am having. Some workers (well, one) are kind, but mostly I have great fear of running into a couple of workers who seem to take great pleasure in making the experience as painful as possible. I know the job sucks - but I can't help that. I am as nice as possible and still get yelled at. I go to great lengths to avoid this particular P.O.- and this is by far the closest. There are many wonderful, kind workers elsewhere - but not here. Too bad. I pretty much hate going here. And that's a strong word, but it fits. Oh - it also seems to have the longest lines - perhaps because some of the workers with bad attitudes who hate their job just can't get the energy up to do a decent job. A few years back, during a storm, there was a sign on the door of this post office saying, "Closed Due to Snow," This was at a time when postal workers in the midwest were using children's sleds in order to deliver the mail. When did USPS drop that "Neither snow nor..." business for New York? Everyday, our delivery people leave big white bins of mail unprotected in our lobbies for hours on end. The most horrendous customer service I have ever experienced in my life! First of all, there were no pens on the writing desk so I had to borrow from the clerk. I did not expect to go to the post office so did not have a pen with me. Anyway, after filling up a certified mail form, I fell in line. There was about a 15 minute wait. Finally I was called to step forward to one of the clerks but she wasn't the one who lent me the pen. Aside from handing her my mail, I also handed in the pen I had borrowed and mentioned that I also wanted to return the pen. This clerk immediately looks at me and says, "well you did not borrow that pen from me did you? So why are you returning it to me?". OMG! I was just so appalled by this clerk, I did not even know how to react! I told her that I thought she could help me return the pen since her fellow clerk was busy with someone. And she had to tell me at that point, "well, you didn't seem to have a problem borrowing that pen earlier? So why couldn't you return it?" Again, OMG!! So I tossed the pen to the side between her and the other clerk. I kept quiet and when I was asked if there was anything else I needed to purchase I said No, and actually I think I did not get a good service today. And the clerk, as if what she did to me wasn't enough, continued to harass me about that pen. And as I was leaving her counter, she had the nerve to tell me, "you're an adult! So act like one!" Needless to say, I so regret going in there. I never expected to be punished by simply borrowing a pen and returning it. I never thought that anyone could be so uncourteous, so disrespectful, so mean and so cruel. Anyone like that must be so rotten inside. After all, as they say, a person the way they feel inside. So cheers to that! Here's to that girl's miserable life! She definitely gives the USPS a bad name! There's a reason why more people use FedEx or UPS. read more

I assume they thought I was an annoying rich upper west side customer and that's why they were rude to me, to be honest. I happened to be in the area and wasn't used to the higher tech label printing machine--the USPS near me (not UWS lol) is in absolute disarray. Employee was very rude to me when I didn't completely understand how to use the machine... BEWARE!!!!! 1st & last time @ this PO. I mailed 2 medium bubble packed envelopes: 1 pkg contained a beautiful amethyst cuff bracelet & the other was a tchotchke. The tchotchke made it to its destination 3 days later. Of course the amethyst bracelet has never been seen again. My receipt has 2 items listed. It was a pre paid label, so it was correctly addressed. No trace of my pkg anywhere. The post office tracker still says "status unavailable". It doesn't even show it was scanned by the clerk. Almost a month later & my pkg is still MIA. Back to Cathedral Station PO I go. It's slow over there, but atleast my items make it to their destination. read more

The line was long and the man at the head of it allowed me to ask the clerk one question. "Is there a flat rate box less expensive than this one?" A one word answered would have solved the riddle. Yes/No. Instead, she told me "I don't care if that man let you go first. You have to go to the back of the line!" That's twenty words. I counted them. Undaunted, I asked, "Can you please tell me yes or no?" She said, "I already told you. Go back to the end of the line and then I'll tell you." That's another seventeen words. The crowd mumbled their disapproval and the postal ambiance turned darker. Geez...thirty seven words when one would have sufficed. I should add that had the price of the box been displayed, this entire episode would never had occurred. read more

This is the best post office period. The upper west side is lucky to have this location. I literally travel 90 blocks and avoid the 181st street post office to come to this location every time i need teller service cause they are so professional. I am giving them a star due to the location being close to my apartment. The level of rudeness and abrasiveness of this post office makes me want to go out of my way to mail from other post offices in the city. Recently I went in there and one of the employees kept calling out to me by saying, "Hey you- Chinese lady!" For the record: 1) I am not Chinese. 2) People should not be called out by their Nationalities. 3) She needs to get manners and stop shouting out at customers. I reported her for that through the USPS. I had to go back in there today and was told that I would be charged priority mail because I used a priority label (but cut off the priority words) to label my boxes. I needed to write in the address and forgot paper or post it's to make my own. I asked if they could make an exception this one time and she laughed in my face and said no and that if I had a problem with it, I need to label them at home. Its like the menopausal ladies mafia is running the show there...They are all mean and angry. They don't even try to help people. Not one single employee has a proper work ethic or genuinely understands what customer service means. They use foul language, talk to customers through their teeth, laugh at everyone and are all probably dealing with one or a few types of mental illnesses because they do not act right at all. Do yourself a favor and go to any other post office, but don't go here. If you do, take your own supplies: boxes, pens, tape- all of it. Don't pay them any more than you need to. read more

This is not the worst post office in New York. The lines are long... Sometimes excessively long, but the staff has been polite on all my visits and the crowd in the lines have been relatively orderly and if one has to stand in line, this is not the worst read more

They have a package drop box and are open until 4 on Saturday! It really doesn't get much better than this as many locations in NYC don't have the giant package drop off bins and shitty weekend hours. I'm sure I'll drop my rating once I actually have to deal with an employee but most of the time I print my postage at home and just need to drop it off. read more

Wasn't expecting much from the post office but this is super low LOW standard. Rather pay 4 times more to UPS than to use post office at this branch. If I could give negative stars, I truly would. DO NOT CALL THIS LOCATION. The woman working today 10/5 @ 4pm is evil. Not only does she hate her life, she hates her job enough to not do the one thing she is supposed to do... provide customer service. She would not listen to what I needed and referred me to the 800 ASK USPS number even though it is just an automated system. I ended up calling the number anyway and realized I wouldn't get the help I needed. I called back and TRIED to explain the situation to her, but she insisted on calling the automated number. When I told her I've called various Post Offices and they have helped me, she said "well they're not supposed to." I asked to speak to someone else and conveniently enough, there was no one available. I told her I would wait and sure enough she put me on hold and kept me on hold. When my patience ran out, I hung up and called back. Since then, she has not been answering the phone. It is such a shame to work for a Government Office and be such a useless employee. On the other hand, if you have good customer service, I advise you to apply for USPS. Hopefully they will be in need of a new employee at this location. read more

I LOVE this post office and all the women in it. They are as good and professional as I could ever hope for. They put up with a lot of terribly cranky and impatient customers up here on the privileged upper west side of Manhattan. A few years ago, they did have at one point a little troll woman who should have been fired. She made everyone miserable. She embarrassed me publicly at least 2x. No one could do anything about her but wait til her retirement day came. It angers me to think that my tax money funded her or that any union protected someone that unprofessional's job. Besides her little miserable troll self, since she left, everything has been super peachy at the post office and I look forward to going there. The line looks long sometimes but they move through customers quickly. Everyone is very friendly there and I hope that customers take it easy on my friends at the post office!!! read more

Another one of the better post offices around Manhattan. For people with a very tough time getting around, the first thing you notice going in is the handicapped elevator lift. The self serve machine is right there too - lots of senior citizens comes through here, so I get the feeling a lot of little things were placed or modeled with them in mind. They also have a huge fan they leave on during the summers (nice), and they usually keep the line moving. Clerks are also very helpful. The one bummer about this place is they never have any working pens - you can borrow one from the clerk, but if you need to fill out forms ahead of time, it's a little bit of a drag. Otherwise, this place is reliable, I usually come here when I'm on the UWS. read more

Stopped by this charming facility earlier today to drop off 2 prepaid packages. However, the self-service box was full at 10:30 AM (why, I have no idea), so I couldn't desposit my pre-paid packages as I had hoped. Despite struggling with the box for about 5 minutes, not one staff member asked if I needed help. So, I was forced to wait in line for 25 minutes. When I finally got to the desk, I mentioned that the self service box was full. Unsurprisingly, I got no apology or explanation; instead, the male employee "helping me" said that next time I could leave my pre-paid box "right there", and pointed to a random, non-descript counter. I asked how anyone was supposed to know to do that, and suggested that they put up a sign, since people drop off prepaid packages all the time. He snapped at me that "there can't be signs everywhere" while his even more charming colleague screamed, "they [I assume by they, she meant customers] always want something." NY's finest! read more

I rarely write reviews on Yelp and never thought I would end up rating a USPS office, but my experience there was so frustrating I feel I have to. I I had to send an international package and had no pen to fill the custom form, waiting in line, when it was my turn I asked very courteously to the female employee for a pen - she said she had no pen, it is the customer's responsibility to have a pen we are not giving pens" ...even though I had seen her co-worker hand a pen to another customer while in line - I leave her counter telling her I didn't ask her to " give me a pen" - I think to myself 'fine, be patient I understand they hear that all day, their pens disappear", I left the facility, went to the business next door to Dunkin Donuts, filled the form, went back in line, end up with the same employee who now tells me the description of my items on the form is incomplete! I say ok, can you hand me a pen so I can write this extra word right in front of you, she says "no I don't have a pen", I say let me ask your co-worker next to you (who had a pen on his keyboard in front of him)" - I ask him do you have a pen so I can write RIGHT HERE one word on my form, he said "no this is my pen" and before I could say a thing this female employee says "next step down"- I could not believe it so I had to leave with my package which I cannot send before next weekend because of work - just because of this extremely poor and rude customer service - I told her "very professional" when leaving and she says "very grown" - She is not home with her buddies, she is a government employees paid with tax payer money dealing with customers and that is the worst customer service I have ever experienced - I have asked in a very courteous way, I waited twice in line, nowhere where forms are located you can find pens available for customers, if they get stolen I am sorry but this is no reason for such a poor customer service - There are many forms to fill in a post office, so yes employees are going to run into customers asking for pens it is part of the job - plus there is no sign anywhere saying having a pen is the "customer"s responsibility" I was furious upon leaving, more about how rude this employee was than the issue itself even though this was absolutely not justified - every post office should have pens available for customers to fill the forms properly. This employee has no right to treat customers with such contempt, this is unacceptable customer service and as I read the reviews, it seems I am not the only one complaining about how rude and full of contempt some of the employees of this facility are - FYI, we can fill a complaint on the USPS website as well, probably doesn't do much but maybe eventually this employee will be notified. read more
