Postman is stealing multiple valuable packages. He is also not leaving slips signaling delivery of any kind- this is a problem throughout the whole neighborhood. When I schedule redelivery (and get email confirmations they will occur) they simply do not happen. Massive lines at the post office and NASTY staff who give customers extreme attitude. I have witnessed both physical and verbal altercations while waiting in line and have been gravely disrespected undeservingly. Average wait time is 40 minutes. I have never been talked to so rudely. Lost multiple packages of mine. When I call to inquire about the lost packages they say call back later, and when I do, they are extremely rude and hang up on me. Refuse to look for my package in the back. how is this place still open? it is so wrong and should be illegal. read more

Slowest, most unfriendly service I've ever experienced at a post office. Unfortunately it's the one closest to me so I've been multiple times and it makes no difference who is working. We forwarded our mail from the Cathedral Station to our address upstate. In over three weeks we have received ONE forwarded letter. Who knows where our mail is now. Atrocious. The space has all the charm of municipal buildings in 1970's Soviet Russia , and they seem to have hired a group of people so inept, nasty and downright unwilling to do even the most basic task to help customers that it boggles the mind. Every single time I come here, I leave angry, sad or depressed. They should just pump in mist made of valium so people can exit feeling calm. I loathe any "opportunity" to set foot in this dump. Every time one of my family members or I go there for anything at all, everyone is so rude. They answer simple questions with such disgust. Unfortunately, though I live much closer the Columbia University P.O., this is the branch I have to deal with when picking up packages. As other reviewers have stated, the Post Office supposedly attempts to deliver packages to me, but (funny this) I almost NEVER receive a pickup notice/slip, which they require you to bring in when you try to retrieve your package. Usually, I end up getting a final notice only, which forces me to go in to this location on a Saturday and wait in a ludicrously long line to pick up a package that, in theory, was attempted to be delivered at least once. Yet, with a pickup slip rarely provided before a final notice materializes, it inevitably involves an unpleasant discussion with the rude and incompetent staff, explaining that a slip was never left, etc. Otherwise, I have to be resigned to waiting for the final notice to show up (praying that it does) before I can get my mail. You get the picture. It's a circus and completely unnecessary. Everything about this branch is an inconvenience. The staff is abominably rude, slow and often irrational. Perhaps if they shaped up they would not be so often confronted by angry customers, something I witness 9 times out of 10 when I wait in the endless package pick-up line. There is most definitely a sense of entitlement with the workers here. They basically seem to act like they only need to do their jobs if they feel like it, which contributes to the slow moving lines and everyone's frustration. An all-time worst for me was when I submitted a Passport application at this branch. The guy who processed it seemed "put out" by having to handle it, and--while I can't prove it--I suspect this is why my Passport, as well as my separately provided residency documents, almost didn't make it back to me. The address on the envelopes was not even close to being correct or what I provided on my application forms. More infuriating was the fact that the letter carrier who delivered the envelopes to me circled the ridiculously wrong address on each and wrote "You're lucky!" complete with an arrow drawn to the incomplete address. Perhaps if the information had been carefully entered in the first place it wouldn't have been difficult to figure out who I actually was and where I live? Someone from higher up in the USPS world needs to visit this location and monitor what is going on, though I suspect no one higher up cares. read more

I would agree with many reviewers that the people working at this location are friendly. However, there is a serious disconnect between their positive attitudes and the competency of this station. Time and time and time and time again, I have received "Final Notices" in my mailbox (as the first and only notice), only to miss out on the package altogether and have it sent back to the sender. One time, a box of perishable fruit sat rotting in their backroom for a month before I received the Final (and only) Notice slip. Likewise, I have had a few instances when I have tracked a package and it was marked as delivered to my apt, but was nowhere in sight. This post office offers no help with such blunders. I have voiced this concern multiple times and someone else is always blamed: the driver, the daily mail deliverer, me - it is ridiculous. I have spoken to the supervisor a few times and she basically said, well what do you want me to do about it? Awful. I love the USPS but this one is so incompetent. read more

This post office is terrible! Fromt lost packages to rescheduled delivery date (that I did not request) to hanging up phone calls when you call their office number to SUPER RUDE STAFF!! Abominable service and completely rude workers!! I received a notice that this location had a package for me to pick up. (Not sure why I had to go to this location when the post office on Columbus between 94 and 95 is only a few blocks away - compared to 11 for this hell hole.) Anyway, I went on a Saturday afternoon, waited in line a good 30 minutes. Other customers yelled at me while standing in line because I couldn't move out from in front of the letter drop. I finally get to the package pick-up window, present my notice slip, and wait for another 15 minutes while they look for it. I am told my package "cannot be located" and asked whether I requested it be sent out for re-delivery (which I didn't). I am told to write my phone number down and they will call me when they find it. Yeah right. Surprisingly, I do receive a voice mail later that evening telling me two (2) packages for me have been located and that I can pick them up on Sunday (yes, the branch was open on Sunday). I schlep back to 104th Street the next day (Sunday) and present my notice slip to the only person working. He disappears only to come back empty-handed and tells me my package "cannot be located." I question why I received a voice mail from the very same post office saying it was there. I play him the voice mail. He says he doesn't know who left that (because they didn't give their name) and basically accuses me of making it up. Right, like I'm going to fake a voice mail from the post office. He asks me if my name is on my mail box. As I just moved 6 days ago, I say no. He tries to tell me that's why -- I counter by asking how they put the notice, along with four other envelopes, in the correct mailbox then. He tries to tell me the packages are out for re-delivery. "On a Sunday?" I ask. He tells me to write down my phone number and someone will call me when it's available for pick up. I tell him I already got that voice mail and it says the packages are here now. I explain I do not live in the neighborhood and cannot come back the following day (Monday) because I work until after the post office closes. I also explain at least one of the packages contains perishable items. He storms away and refuses to come back. I call the number for the supervisor, which I was given the previous day. He answers and I say I received a voice mail saying I have a package for pick up but am being told it cannot be located. He hangs up on me. I call back (still standing in the lobby) repeatedly until he realizes I am not leaving without my packages. Miraculously, he finds three packages for me and slams them down on the counter. He then yells at me, calls me a LIAR and says I told the post office to redeliver them. I tell him that is a lie and ask him why I would waste my time standing in line at a post office 11 blocks away, two days in a row, if I could have them delivered to my apartment?! He shoves my packages at me and tells me to "Get the hell out of here." Way to keep it classy USPS. Clearly he is the one who lied...he tried to tell me a) he couldn't find it, b) it was out for delivery c) I wanted it redelivered when in reality the packages were there all along I'd consider filing a complaint with the supervisor, but based on the other reviews it will likely fall on deaf ears. This is by far the worst post office experience I've had to deal with in New York. read more

Why do I feel compelled to describe this post office as so many others before me have done it perfectly? (The MIB analogy review is pretty amusing.) Because despite these criticisms, the US Postal Service has apparently done nothing to address it. These reviews go back a couple years. On my visit this week, the woman who waited on me was so wicked nasty, I busted out laughing. The post office where I work in Soho is pleasant and accessible. THE WORST POST OFFICE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. I have been here 4-5 times in the past 6 months I have lived here. Not only have they LOST 60% of my packages that I did not send delivery confirmation or insured. They are incompetent and RUDE. It's one thing if you are going to be stupid but don't stupid and an asshole. I literally had one of the women YELL at my partner about flat rate meant the package had to be FLAT. Not that it was bulging at all or over filled but she insisted it had to be completely flat as if paper was in it. He's a very VERY clam level headed person and he SNAPPED. She then proceeded to tell me "wow" when she asked what i was doing in the foyer and i said I was waiting for him. Meaning "wow" that I was with him and he was such a jerk. After she stood there harassing him and feeding him nonsense for a good 15 minutes and refused to lend him a pen. I asked her what "wow" meant and she spelled it for me. Which i guess was her way of proving she had some level of intelligence. I then told her I was surprised someone who worked for the USPS could even spell WOW. I then forced my partner to leave and simply did not send our package from that location. I've also been waiting a good 2-3 weeks for a package that they simply can not FIND in their possession. I call every day apparently UPS dropped it with them and the tracking says its simply sitting there but no one can seem to get a hold of it. They are insane. Every time I go someone is fighting with someone behind the counter. This is the Upper West Side I can't imagine we have to many hot headed jerks up here. I doubt they are simply taking their day out on ignorant postal service employees. If i thought anyone higher-up in the USPS cared slightly I'd push my cause and complaints. But I'm sure since they are hemorrhaging money. I'm glad. I'm glad a machine can do their jobs. Simply warning DO NOT GO HERE. read more

A decade later I decided to take her advice. I purchased it online and tossed it in my messenger bag, allotting it the destiny of being read on the subway. I arrived at this post office because as a favor to my brother, who needed me to pick him up something he had ordered off of Amazon and had not been home to receive. Counting ten people ahead of me, I began to tap my foot, listening to a Bill Simmons podcast on the week's NFL games. It concluded so I reached into my bag and pulled out the brick that is Joyce's book. I read it under the white lights of the post office and for a minute I lost myself. I shuffled forth as the person ahead of me periodically moved up a half-step. I finished the book and guess what? I was still number four in line. Oy frickin' vey! Most people are like me, bored and frustrated with the seemingly endless wait. However, one of about every fifteen people who walk into this place will go stir crazy. They start talking, which turns into rambling, which turns into screaming at the employees, which then turns into screaming at poor innocents who have to be in line with this nutter. read more

Easily the most inconvenient and unpleasant experience I've ever had at a post office. Granted, it's a post office and the USPS has a shaky reputation as it is but my experience at this particular location has not only stopped me from ever shipping anything via USPS, but also made me feel embarrassed to have such a shoddy post office in my neighborhood. The clerks (and I was sent to three different ones on this occasion) weren't just painfully mean, but also carried a nasty sense or entitlement that would, if I didn't know better, intimidate me. After losing a package that had been sent to me, and placing the blame I me so the insurance couldn't be claimed, I made the mistake of going to the same post dice to ship an item. One question to an employee and I not only got told I needed to learn how the postal service operates, but I needed to go figure out how I wanted to send an item then walk to the back of the line to wait for another lifetime in the never ending line. The unprofessionalism and mistreatment of their customers is appalling and embarrassing. It must take a special kind of person to be that consistently rude to so many people on a daily basis. After traveling to at least 30 countries and their respective post offices I have to say it is a dream and pleasure compared to the Cathedral Post Office. A couple of the window employees are good but the manager should in no way have her job! Many of the employees feel they are entitled. They have the job and they can work at any speed or level of efficiency they choose and have no clue what courtesy and customer service is. I worked at a mail processing facility before and almost all of the workers at the Cathedral station would be fired for inefficiency and slowness if they worked there or any place with oversight. Hiring additional workers isn't the answer at this facility but getting responsible employees willing to work and a decent manager is. One of the employees was so rude I even filed a complaint and I've never felt the need to do this at any post office ever. read more

This post office is a Saturday Night Live skit come to life. I went today and was so startled by the beyond nasty words and tone of the person who "helped" me (yes, I'm looking at you lady at the far right counter) that I couldn't get out of there fast enough. Her attitude was surreal - it started when she called me out for not thanking her and deteriorated so quickly that my head was spinning. Truly beyond awful. And the recent reviews indicate that I am not alone in my horror. It is clear that the USPS doesn't read these reviews - or does and couldn't care less. I get that mail is being supplanted by email, but they also might want to look in the mirror to discover that people would prefer to go to the dentist than to most postal locations in NYC. All of my marginal business will go to UPS and Fedex, and I suspect I am not alone. read more

One star is far too generous. For about the 4th time in the last year our carrier failed to leave a package (from Amazon) and never rang our bell. The carriers (not all of them) are so incompetent and make so little effort that it seems that we really don't have true postal service at all. Regarding the post office itself: the building is run down, dark, and depressing. The staff seem to make a special effort not to be helpful, as if to be helpful would be an admission of weakness, so they make a point to show you, the customer, how little you really matter to them. This is one thing they do quite well and consistently! This place is a very strong argument to privatize this pathetic excuse for a postal service. read more

RUDEST EMPLOYEE HERE!!! I've never had such a terrible experience before: Counter #4 woman on April 19, 2017 around 3:00pm. I needed my letter to be postmarked and after quite some time was able to see someone. The woman was extremely rude, disrespectful, and made me feel incompetent by yelling exclaiming that I did not know how to properly address a letter. I was mailing back a letter to a company and only needed to write the 'to' address, which I wrote on the top left corner where the lines are. She yelled at me because that is where the 'from' address is supposed to go. If she simply told me so, I would edit it as it was an honest mistake. But she went on to criticize me when I said "oh I didn't know, because that's where the lines are." Instead, she goes "well, does that make it right?! NOOO. That's where the FROM is supposed to go. Here look, *brings up someone else's mail* THIS is how it's supposed to be!" She kept going before finally giving me something to tape over my letter. Worst post office. Rude staff and almost deliberately slow. They "lost" a package (a birthday present) sent to me which showed that it was delivered to the post office. Nightmare. Serious flippin' nightmare. I went to this post office at 8:15 on a Monday morning to attempt to resolve an issue because I have not received any mail in over a week. I waited in line until the windows opened at 9 AM, only to be told to go wait in another window (which I could have been first in if the signage had been better, but was now behind about 7 other people). Waited another 15 minutes while the woman behind that window took a hundred years to find the packages for the people who were there to pick them up. Got to the front of the line, and the woman looked at me like I had nine heads when I told her that I thought there was an issue with my mail, because I hadn't received any at all in over a week, and my in-laws, who live in a DIFFERENT APARTMENT in our building, are currently having their mail forwarded to their summer home, and I needed to find out if mine was being forwarded or lost. She barely listened to me, and then said, "well, you need to fill out a form and stop forwarding your mail." So I said, "no, you don't understand -- *I* am not forwarding MY mail, my IN-LAWS are, and I NEVER PUT A FORWARD ON MY MAIL. I can't stop THEIR mail!" (She also seemed confused when I told her that my father in law, husband and son all have the same name -- has she never heard of sons being named after their fathers?) She repeated the stuff about my having to stop forwarding my mail, at which point I cut to the chase and asked for a supervisor. She disappeared for another 10 minutes, searching for the supervisor and holding up the line behind me. After an eternity the supervisor showed up, took my information, told me to step aside but not leave the window, and went to "check" on the situation. Another hour went by (by this time it was nearly 10:15 AM), and the supervisor never returned. The woman behind the package window kept giving me a glare because I was standing there watching her "serve" (I use the term very loosely) the customers behind me in the line. Finally, around 10:30, I told her I could not wait anymore because it would soon be time to move my car or get a ticket, and I asked her for the supervisor's name and phone number. She insisted she had already given it to me (which she had not), and begrudgingly wrote it down for me, but told me that she did't know how to spell the supervisor's name. I told her to do the best she could and I would figure it out, (which prompted a huge sigh and eye roll), although she did give me the info on a slip of paper. I left, hurrying because I was really cutting it close and was afraid I would get a ticket. ...and when I got out to my car, nothing resolved, there was a $65 ticket on the windshield because I missed the legal parking cutoff by a couple of minutes. To say that this post office is disgusting (place stinks of urine and is so grimy you feel like you need to bathe after you leave just from standing in the air within the walls) and that the workers are nasty and incompetent is the understatement of the century. There is a reason I had never set foot in this PO at any time in the 18 years I have lived in this area -- and the only reason I did today was because this is the main sorting facility for our zip code and issues such as mine can't be resolved at the smaller substation on the next block from my home. In addition, there were some really scary people in line ahead of me -- including a woman who was gesticulating and screaming at the top of her lungs about "f**king this" and "f**king that," and carrying a big backpack...she was so frightening (and clearly nuts -- she wasn't on her phone, we ALL checked!) that if she'd gone for anything in that backpack we'd all have hit the dirt, because she seemed like the type who would "go postal." Not to mention the nasty, mocking attitude of the rest of the staff -- particularly (and believe me, I am NOT prone to saying stuff like this) if you happen to be Caucasian. Wowza. Do yourself a favor and NEVER go to this post office (or any other branch station in 10025) if you can possibly avoid it. Beyond horrific. I've already gone up the chain and opened a case with the regional supervisor -- and I intend to pursue this as far as I can -- AND get that flippin' parking ticket paid for, too! read more

Believe all of these reviews. I've lived in the neighborhood for years and this post office is absolutely the worst. You wait on line forever and most of the tellers have MAJOR attitudes--they're nasty, lazy and have contempt for customers. And it's not only been like that for years, it continues to get worse. Plus, they're lost a ton of my stuff. If I could give this place minus 5 stars I would. Last month, I happened to be in midtown and needed to mail something. Went into the post office on 42nd Street and it was a pleasure. Tellers were nice and competent. Not much waiting. No attitudes. It can be done. It's just not being done on 104th Street. read more

The service here sucks. Never enough staff, and several of the staff are downright rude, surly and incompetent. Have had several priority mailings incorrectly inputted on the machine and had to be re-routed w/ no compensation or apology. The lines are always long since the staff moves like molasses. read more

Used to be you could buy stamps from one of many machines on the floor. Went in about 6 months ago and found they had REMOVED EVERY SINGLE STAMP MACHINE. How to get some stamps? You guessed it. Okay, SOMEBODY'S got to say something good about this place. I've been using this P.O. over 20 years to ship packages and buy stamps NOT for package delivery or pickup which seems to be the the main problem. Can't speak to that, those people have a right to their anger. But for everything else my experience here has been good. Yes, sometimes the lines are too long and sometimes your window person is burned out--first problem the cause of the second. A little self-restraint and understanding, especially when the lines are long and there's only two windows open, will usually get you good service and a nice connection. Dumping your anger on them because you're The Customer will get it thrown back in your face because they're real New Yorkers. Too dirty for you? Some day it'll be all sterilized like the suburb most of us came from but it's still New York for a while longer. Be part of it while you can. read more

A good post office in the city with not horrible lines and friendlier service. If you've ever been in NYC Post offices then you know how dirty and rude service can be but I like stopping by if I have to grab stamps or mail a letter because I know I will get helped. read more
