Every single of the reception workers are rude, always have an attitude and arguing with others. I've been here multiple times and every time without fail I see one of the ladies displaying attitude. This morning as an example: a gentleman was waiting in line and once he saw the receptionist lady open he went to her. She rudely tells him "I DIDN'T TELL YOU I WAS READY AND FOR YOU TO COME UP, GO BACK IN LINE". Mind you the lines here are pretty long and disorganized. TERRIBLE SERVICE. January 3, 2026 Was on line @ Gracie Post Office this morning. Got up to the window saw a sign "NO MONEY ORDERS" I asked the clerks she said they do not have Money orders. NOTE: Their mail drop off for letters is "broken." Normally, they close and leave the building open for 1 hour so people can use the mail chute to drop off mail. I see the sign that the chute is broken, which says "go to counter." I go to the counter and the worker yells at me WE'RE CLOSED!! I'm literally just holding a letter with no where to put it, because they are that incompetent. Why can't they just put a basket on the counter for mail?? Would that be so hard?? And I literally don't think there is a way for a mail drop off to be "broken." It is literally a hole in the wall where the mail falls through to the other side. I think they just don't want to do their jobs. They removed most of the mailboxes on the street where you could mail things. So beware you have to go while they're open if you have a letter to mail. read more

Where is my review? I lived in the area covered by this branch for 6 years. I lived in a Brownstone built in 1910. I Walk up to the fourth floor and businesses on the street level. The Super always left the front door open where the entry had not only our garbage cans but also our mailboxes circa 1910! Someone came into the building during tax season and used a crowbar to Jack Open the mailboxes. My horrible landlord didn't fix the mailboxes the rest of the time I lived there. What has this got to do with my Post Office review? I went every day to pick up my mail at this location. They got to know me very well. They get three stars because they aren't any better or worse than any other. In fact I don't remember being treated harshly at this location. They just plain can't tell you much of anything you ask them 90% of the time. Today they didn't have the new Marvin Gaye Stamps and don't know when they will get them. The place is clean and I didn't get hollered at for taking a photo like I did at one branch. I'd say they're ok. I'm just glad my mailbox is more secure and so is my apartment door. When you live in a walk up keep an eye on your mailbox. Especially when people leave the front door open. Better yet, get yourself a post office box. It may be worth the money. read more

Scary bad!! I never received my package so I called USPS. First they claimed the carrier had put the package in my mailbox (which wasn't true because I never received it and I'm the only one with access to my box) and then later that the carrier had obtained my signature!! They then backed up their claims stating that they use a GPS tracking device for all their packages (which really doesn't prove anything) and that their carrier had "great reviews" (which was some proof that he was infallible). Aside from the bogus claims, speaking to the local USPS was a frightening ordeal. They kept screaming and hanging up on me. Everyone was so emotional. What ever happened to some degree of professionalism? I tried to escalate the case with their 1-800 number, but to no avail. I called their consumer affairs line too, but to no avail as well. Scary bad. So the bottom line is, USPS will not take any responsibility if your package gets missing, stolen, or misplaced and their infallible carrier will go as far as to forge your signature and claim you picked up your package without even ringing your door. read more

Not a bad post office overall. Lots of windows and clerks working each one. Lines move pretty quickly. Even special services lines. Air conditioned, big space, tables to work on your mail if needed. If you do have a package/mail to pick up that line sometimes does move slowly as usually only one clerk is working it and they have to usually go in the back to find it. Employees are usually pleasant but can be hit or miss depending on the day and if it is a big holiday season. read more

The story started almost 8 month ago when I found out the small package that was displayed as delivered by USPS was not in my mail box. When I approached the delivery lady whose first name was Nancy, she first told me it might have not been delivered but when I told her it was delivered almost 3 days ago and she called her colleague over the phone to confirm and there after she found out it was the case, she started crying on her phone saying something "this is not the first time....". She started playing like a victim while I did not say nothing other than asking to confirm and double check. After I saw her crying, I said to her "if it was lost, then it's lost and I will ask the merchant to refund" and I left. But who knows that she took this incident very personally. This morning while I was outside NY for a vacation, I got a buzz from my building doorman stating that the post office lady wanted to talk to me. Nancy told me on the phone that she had a package for me but wanted me to come downstairs to get it. Understanding the package does not require any signature, I asked her why she couldn't leave it in the mail box or with the doorman. Her response shocked me: " No! Remember the incidence last time when I put your package in your mail box and you claimed that you didn't receive it!" I said "it was true that I never received it but if you are concerned this time, the doorman can accept it on my behalf and record in the building link system." She again refused and asked me to go to the post office to retrieve the package when I return. Later I found out that she put in the USPS tracking system with a note "no secure location available"! But she has in the past given packages to the doorman other building residents' packages when the size doesn't fit into the mailbox, not even worth mentioning that my package was 3 boxes of contact lens which have been also well fit into the mailbox! This is extremely ridiculous that the post office worker abused their ability and position to retaliate the customer! I never used any abused language in the first instance nor did I claim that she lost my package or file any complaints. But obviously she took it very personally for the past 8 months and until the moment she mentioned it I then realized who she is. I called up her super whose last name is Lekinron and she ignored my request but solely said that the post office has the right to bring the package back to the office -- and then finally changed the policy to oversized package only after I confirmed three times with her. She then claimed that my package did not fit into the mailbox which is totally a lie. If it doesn't fit, Nancy would have not raised the 8-month-ago incident as an excuse. She never addressed why she gave the oversized boxes to the doorman of my building for other residents -- which seems to be against her stating truth of the "policy". Going forward, I will make every record on the size of package if I have to go to the post office to pick them up and on the wrong mails that belong to other units but were misplaced into my mailbox as an evidence that this lady failed her job and responsibility; her and the post office abused their power to retaliate consumer and impose discrimination against me! If you can use UPS or FedEx instead, do. This place is so close to being useless. I went with a package and had a digital prepaid USPS label. She couldn't look it up or print it for me. So I paid $1 elsewhere to get it printed and come back, and am told I'll need to ask for tape when I'm at the service desk to tape the label to my package. I get there, and the man tells me I eeither have to leave, tape the label and return, or purchase a roll of tape from them- all to attach my label to a package! They don't offer tape or to tape it! He gave me a whole lecture about being unprepared and holding up the line. I've thankfully never used USPS before, but I didn't realize they don't have printing services (even if you're willing to pay), can not look up your prepaid USPS label, and don't even tape your label to your package! 0 points for usefulness. read more

This one is open late! Yay! So if you need to mail your mail before six, head to this location. One of the ladies will find a way to chew you out for your package not being labeled properly and will make you go to the back of the line rather than wait while you re-write the address that takes, oh, 15 seconds. The post office itself is convenient (though severely understaffed) and well laid out and clean. Other than that, its a typical post office, and we should appreciate them as they are a dying breed. read more

They have staff in the lobby to expedite things (why can't YOU do this, Ridgewood?) & the lady who helped me at the Automated Postal Center was very nice. She actually told me that the problem I've been having with the machines lately isn't just me; apparently they changed something in how they do the postage that has been messing it up everywhere for everyone. I realize that service received in NYC won't be offered with the hospitality I grew up with in the South, but I'm not sure calling a customer a "piece of s**t" is ever ok. Went to mail the documents for my loan forgiveness. First employee didn't seem to understand how to put my address in correctly and said I should go to another window. I politely asked if a supervisor could help and she said there wasn't one on duty. Despure attempts to establish connection and kindly ask for the information I needed, the second employee blew through the process and wouldn't let me see the addresses until she printed the label. Of course some of the information was wrong. When I asked for a correction she refused and said I should go to the other window because I was taking too long and there were people in line. I walked out of the post office and called them. The supervisor answered the phone after magically not being present 5 minutes before. She tried to blow me off by saying it was already on the truck, but I came back and politely waited until she appeared with my envelope (that magically made its way from the truck to her hand in 90 Second). Meanwhile the other employees starting talking about me loudly from behind the counter (thus the first comment of this review). Supervisor also tried to gaslight me before finally conceding to correcting the label. Thanks to NYC's one party consent law, I have the second interaction recorded, including the part where they call me a POS. NEVER AGAIN! Absolutely the worst experience at this post office on E. 86th street. I'm not sure why people who work here have the worst possible attitude and demeanor possible. I went to mail a package to an address but didn't have the address on the bubble package I presented. The man verbally attacked me and offered no solution as to a label that could be used or another method to mail. It amazes me that anyone thinks they have a right to be speak this way as if I spoke to a client in this manner, I would be immediately terminated. What happened to customer service and a helpful attitude? I went to a UPS store close by and was greeted with a smile and a helpful attitude (no issues). A mandatory training should be implemented on how to treat customers or just close the post office overall. I have to say, I would never utilize the post office again as it's just not worth the abuse. read more

The USPS isn't known for its exemplary customer service, so there's that. In fairness, I think that they do a decent job delivering letters, particularly at the fairly low cost. However, this particular branch or office, is mediocre on its best days and awful on the rest. The lines are long and "service with a smile" apparently is a phrase nobody ever heard of. Heck, I don't think they have heard of the word service and "smile" only applies when they're locking up for the night. The electronic kiosks are the way to go, and in fairness, there is occasionally someone walking the lobby able to assist what seems to be an endless supply of elderly customers who never saw a "touch screen" they didn't try to bang on like a chimpanzee with a wrench. This is the Upper East Side though.....heaven's waiting room, so old people are to be expected. I'm just kidding about the elderly. I'm no spring chicken myself. My daughter sent me a card with all of the correct info on it, but it was returned with a sticker stating "Return to Sender. Not Deliverable As Addressed. Unable to Forward ". That's amusing because my daughter lived at this address with us for four years. Buffoonery. If possible, go to another PO in the city. You'll surely have better luck. read more

I wish I could give them zero stars. This is a horrible post office. I rented a PO Box for the past two months I have gotten ZERO of my mail. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. So I mailed myself a letter from my office. I actually mail from inside the post office itself. Why did they return my mail with a yellow label stating addresses unknown. When I took the letter to the clerk he rip the label off and simple said it won't happen again. Well it clearly happen again. I wish I can give 0 stars. The supervisor had such a terrible attitude claiming I was raising my voice and I was as calm as can be. She didn't like the fact that she doesn't know her staff. I was complaining about how loudly they slam the mailboxes which is unnecessary. There have been carriers in the past who didn't slam them. She claimed I was wrong about who was delivering the mail. There's always someone new every few months and she claims that's not true. She was just a nasty and miserable woman who needs more training in proper customer relations. No wonder the rest of the staff is rude. They have her to lead them into misery. There was a male supervisor I spoke to a few months ago who was actually helpful and polite for a change. This USPS replaced self-service machines that worked perfectly with defective ones - the touch screens don't work, if you can get them to work it takes much longer to get a label, the screen is not processing things correctly. They look nice but do not work so frustrated customers end up going to the teller line making the lines even longer. It used to take me 5 minutes to send a small package now it's about 30. Absolute insanity! Last time I just left USPS and went to UPS. Whoever put these machines in place should be fired. read more

While living on the UES for a year we had several issues with this post office. Frequently we were told things were delivered that never showed up only to find out after many hours of phone calls and visits to the post office that the packages were left at other buildings, given to the wrong carrier, or simply left somewhere in the back room - even though they were marked as delivered!! People were generally friendly enough, but depending on who answered the phone or was working at the counter I got completely different answers, with the only consistency being that it was always someone else's job and I would given a different name, number and time to call or visit to try again. We have since moved and even after only a couple weeks, our USPS experience has been a total 180 - so even though we all know the postal service is having a rough time lately I do have to say, this one is on the Gracie Post Office. I would highly recommend getting a UPS My Choice account if your on the UES and avoiding USPS all together! read more

There was no line and i walked to the first open window i saw when Liz just sat there on her phone ignoring me for 2 min until another guy walked up to another window and i walked over to him and he processed my mail. When i asked for her name she started giving me an attitude and said "there are 3 available people at the window". I see that but i walked up to you. I absolutely dread going to this post office. I don't know what's worse, the lazy, lifeless robots slouched behind the counter, or the a-holes waiting in the massive line caused by said robots. When at all possible, try to avoid the line and use the self serve machines, or hop on a bike and pedal your package to it's destination - it's probably faster and you'll run into less a-holes along the way. read more

I came here for the first time a few days ago. First impression, big and spaceous, air-conditioned, and lots of windows to help the line move faster. I didn't have to wait so much because there weren't much people, maybe it was just my luck. It was all fine, just had to send a small package, but after I paid, the lady who was helping freaking flung my package and I saw it fly about a good 3 feet into the mailing bin, it was just as that moment that I realized I forgot to tell her to mark it as fragile, just as a safety precaution. I almost don't want to leave a review in the hopes that it doesn't attract more people to this location... but they deserve it. The space is big and organized. There are always multiple people working, so even with a line the wait goes by fast. Everyone is nice and friendly and their stock always seems to be full. It's also nice that they close a bit later than other post offices, and it's still a breeze down to the very last minute. read more

I gave them a call at 12:00 on a Wednesday afternoon to ask about the status of a package and was scolded by the person on the other end of the line and asked "Why didn't you call earlier?!" She then said that the carrier already has the package and that there is nothing she can do at all to let me know what the tracking status of the package is. I'm smart enough to know that she was just being lazy and I was annoyed that there was no semblance of customer service for someone who was calling within business hours with a simple question. I like this place sometimes, I don't like it as much some other time. It depends on the day. It's all because of the people who work there and they have different attitude every day. One thing I absolutely hate about dealing with them is picking up packages. The line is always long and the have no clue where the packages are. Mailman always neglect to leave a slip in our inbox and guys here were too lazy to go to the back room to check. There have been times, I came without a slip and they were reluctant to check in the backroom, always giving me attitude and says "if it's not there, go online or call 1800 to find out", and they always walk back with my package. Avoid this post office unless you have no other options. Listen, you know that the post office is never gonna be a good time, but it seems like the employees of this particular location go out of their way to make the experience painful. The empress are incredibly slow; I've spent 15 minutes waiting on line just to pick up a package. I can handle that, though. What I can't handle is employees sitting from the other side of the floor that I can't pick up my package when I've arrived literally seconds too late.
