We do have the BEST letter carrier in the world. That is my positive statement. It is 5:36 PM. The website says they are open until 6:00 PM. We have not received our mail. I called a couple of times to check on the delay. The phone rang and rang and rang the first time. The second time, someone picked up, and I could hear voices in the background. Then a hang up without speaking with anyone. The third time, someone answered after many rings. He told me I would have to call in the morning to find out what was happened to the mail. I told him we were waiting overtime for the mail. He repeated "You will have to call in the morning to find out what happened." How frustrating. read more

Watch out for Clerk # 09: he cannot read letters and numbers. He told me that the address and zip code I had *printed* in *clear black pen* on the envelope 'did not match' and refused to accept the envelope. I went home and checked 1) the email of my friend who lives in that house (in Tennessee, so we're talking the same country, not some place exotic or with a different alphabet) and 2) the real estate company that sold her the house, and --- The Address and Zip Code were Both CORRECT. The nicest P.O. in the area, both in number of windows open and in pleasantness of the staff. The interior is kind of crappy, but I'm not asking for miracles. The lines are organized and move fast. Five stars is as good as it gets by Yelp standards. Why does no one give USPS five stars ever? Because seriously, this one is as good as it gets in NYC. So I'm bending how I rate things a little for this because it's a post office. Everyone complaining and giving it one star, go to the one on 91st and 3rd like a previous reviewer mentioned. You want to see nasty employees who are ridiculous for no reason? There they are. Unfortunately I've been in and out of post offices all my life and they all give me varying degrees of anxiety, but this one is clean, bright and typically moves quickly. Try something next time you go in, remember that the people who work there are humans and they didn't sign on just to make your day bad. Smile at them and don't call them names (yes I have unfortunately seen this done here) and accept that part of life is waiting in line at the post office and packages going missing (especially in NYC) and those zany antics the mailman plays. This location is close to where I live. No one likes going to the post office...long lines moving slowly, never enough working pens,and you can only use their tape if you use one of their priority mail boxes. However, this location is not bad. The postal workers here have always been polite and professional here, sometimes even making small talk. I like that there isn't glass separating the workers from the customers, makes it feel less prison like. I have used the machines here as well to mail stuff and buy postage and it was fine. They just increased the price of their standard priority mail envelope. Almost six bucks now. May be cheaper to buy your own envelope unless you have something heavy. read more

I have never met a single friendly employee here. I also get an attitude. When I go into this location, they are never courteous of my disabilities. When I call up, I am rushed off the phone and given an attitude. One worker had the tenacity to tell me it "wasn't her job" to help me track a package. My family and I had a great experience here a few weeks ago. I have anxiety having to go to the post office. We had to renew our passports and apply for one for my son. 3 passports in total. I believe the gentlemen's name is Gregory. He was super friendly and the best customer service I have ever received at a post office. I checked with multiple people who said they locally sent me cards and other mailings over a week ago, plus I have a tracking number for a small package under USPS that was delivered to your facility on the 16th." The ironic thing about this review is that two stars is "Meh. I've experienced better.", and I really HAVEN'T experienced better, because most USPS locations are awful. But I digress. In the last month, it feels like I've had to pick up packages here at least four times (despite that I don't actually order things for delivery that often), and my experiences range from mediocre to really bad. It feels like the place is always crowded with long lines no matter what time you come (whether it's a Wednesday at 2pm, when you would guess that most would be at work, or right before closing on a Friday) - though this shouldn't be a surprise given that everyone who works here moves at a snail's pace. At best, I wait in line for 10 minutes, it takes them another 5-10 to find the package, and then I'm on my merry way. At worst, I'm told that they can't find the package and that I'll need to call the person who delivers mail on my route (??) to figure out where it is. Uh, pretty sure that's your job. To their credit, most of the employees I've interacted with have been okay enough (not friendly, but also not terrible). My main gripe comes from the fact that half the time when I receive a notice saying that "no secure location" was available in which to leave the package, I was actually home all day and could have directly received it had they even bothered to buzz my apartment. The best of all of these was when the package was very small (hardly bigger than the a letter-sized envelope). I checked the package tracking at around noon that day and it said that delivery had been attempted but no secure location was available, and that a notice had been left. I had been home all morning and there had been no ring up to my apartment to deliver the package, so I checked my door and went down to the lobby of my building to check for the notice, which was nowhere to be found. When I finally found the notice (which my roommate brought to me later that night), she said it had been INSIDE THE LOCKED MAILBOX No secure location available, my ass. read more

I was having a pretty brutal experience dealing with the USPS--this includes their poorly designed website, their 100% automated phone system, and the incompetency of their employees at other Post Offices in NYC. Then I spoke to Mr. Warden (the Manager of Gracie PO) by phone, and he could not have been more helpful. I dont mind this location at all. All of the postal workers are actually very helpful. Im an online shop owner so im in 3-4 times a week with 11+ packages to be shipped both domestic and international. Sometimes they get fussy, but if you just smile and be kind they wont be rude! Lol. It gets very busy when people start getting out of work, 4 pm is a no go. The key is to be there bright and early! And bring your own pen! read more

This post office is always busy and crowded. Even when you enter on a weekday or Saturday morning, there is a line. It is actually reassuring to me to see the foot traffic there. Our government is alive and well! If there were no lines, I would be slightly worried if I was transported into zombieville. In spite of all the waiting, the crowds are generally pleasant. There is usually more than two windows open. Some of the postal workers there have an awesome sense of humor. I was getting confused on all the new mailing options at the post office today. The kind gentlemen behind the counter reassured me that it was the new economic policy. Confuse all the older worker folks with multiple options and services. Mr. Coneys rocks and should get 5 Stars. He is AMAZING! Some of the rest of the employees are decent enough. Our local mail carrier Sylvia has only been with our building a short time and is phenomenal. We love her. This comes after a carrier we had for many years who should have just thrown our mail in the street and let us get our own. Worth it to wait in line as I do, to make sure Mr. Coneys is your mail clerk. There is one mean female worker who makes it her life's work to make sure your life is miserable. read more

I have given Gracie Station a few chances to redeem itself, but unfortunately this place is just past the point of no return. Everytime I go in here I can always count on an issue and somehow seemingly simple tasks become complex problems. I'm not sure if it is the incompetent staff, bad management, cranky UES residents (or a combination of the three) that makes a trip here an arduous task. Stay away from this Post Station at all costs, and just pray that you never have to pick up a package there. It just might get "lost" in their back stock room and then magically found a week later. I'll admit, I rarely mail things. These days most of my friends and family are on email, and the ones who aren't are racists, and honestly I've stopped sending them birthday cards anyway. When I do send mail, it's always a big production because I don't know how stamps work-- that's part of their secret, though; they don't want you to know-- anyway. So I go to the post office, usually the one in park slope, where the hideous gargoyle people sit behind their little window, stewing in their body odor and regret, and treat me like shit. Then I treat them like shit back and usually storm away in a rage muttering under my breath. At THIS post office though, oh my god, not one but TWO employees smiled and offered to help! One even made a joke! It was a joke about tape, but like still! I laughed and laughed and made a little joke back. "What am I a human office?" I said with a smirk. Not my best but whatever. It's the post office. Wow! I am going to be riding the high from this normal human interaction for the rest of the day. And don't get me started on the efficiency! I completely disagree with the first review of this post office. Ever since I moved to this neighborhood (which may be partially to blame for my utter lack of Yelp activity for months) I have been pleasantly surprised at how nice this post office is, especially compared to the one I used to go to in Astoria. The employees have been over-the-top nice, they have automated machines, decent hours, and there's rarely a line. Also, it's spacious inside so you're not crammed in a claustrophobic line where everyone's getting mad at each other. The employees aren't behind bullet proof plastic. This post office and Ms. Hinton in particular really came through for me. I had something overnighted to me from LA. It was guaranteed to get to my house by noon or if I asked for it to be held, the post office by 10am. I needed it by 11 so I wanted to pick it up at the post office. However, this post office was already closed for the evening so I called right when they opened this morning and spoke to ms. Hinton. Unfortunately it didn't seem like there was any guarantee the package would actually come to them by 10 but she gave me her direct number and she actually checked in with me a few times to update me. Eventually the package was located and I was able to run in and get it fast. Thank you! read more

The employees are ridiculously helpful (they take the "postal" out of "going postal"), they have separate windows for different services, making the line short and quick! I ordered a package expedited because I needed it quickly. I waited over a week and still no package. Yesterday I got a slip in the mail saying that the package has been in Gracie Station for A WEEK. They just didn't bother to deliver the slip letting me know this until now. Not sure what good reviews of a Post Office do. In most cases you don't really have any alternative but to use their services. But if you live in UES such and an opportunity does arise, I urge you to take advantage of it. read more

If you live in this area well, I apologize because your mail system sucks. My post man never even attempts to deliver my packages. My buzzer never goes off but a day or two later a "sorry we missed you" slip mysteriously appears in my box. And although the post office is "open" until 7pm, be warned, if you're not there by AT LEAST 5:59pm you're not getting your mail but you are getting attitude. Oh and if something was shipped "parcel post" you may as well know that FDR post office will tell you to call Gracies and Gracies will tell you to call FDR. Just assume it's been returned to sender because you're probably right. If you need to send a package set aside a good 30 minutes because you'll be passed between different windows and told you're missing something at each one. Oh and your destination address doesn't exist. And tape is extra. And we don't have any pens... read more

I was away and it was not forwarded. they charged my credit card $85 dollars and the box was used by another party which I found out when I went there and someone just happened to be opening my PO Box!!! I began calling this post office at 8:45 this morning hoping that I could speak with my mail person before he sets out on his rounds for the day. I wanted to ask him to please deliver all the mail that was put on hold while I was away for a few weeks. I have returned sooner than expected. While this is not a great emergency, I still would like to have my mail. It is now 11:49 a.m. and the phone at the Gracie Post Office on E. 85th Street in Manhattan is still "busy." This is outrageous. Suppose someone has a real emergency regarding his mail? Some clerk at the post office just doesn't want to be bothered by phone calls and takes the phone off the hook for hours!!! It is very frustrating, not to mention fruitless, to call this place over and over and over again only to hear the sound of a busy signal - for hours! Such a problem should not exist. Best Post Office experience I've had in NY. Printed postage at home to save money. When I got there there was a dedicated helper woman who chuckled at my incompetence but advised me on the best envelope to use and basically put my package together for me. It's pretty much banking hours only at this post office, which for average working folk, can make it hard to get there before it closes. I wish they had evening hours once or twice a week. They do at least have two of those automated postal service machines which is nice. The guy who helped me was very nice. I made a mistake and chose the wrong kind of package and he didn't make me pay for it, even though I had ruined it with tape. He sent me to another desk to grab the right kind of package. After 5 minutes of waiting, the same guy came behind that desk and handed me the right package himself so I didn't have to wait any longer. I have searched many USPS or UPS or etc and rarely people give 5 stars; well this place deserves it. I couldn't find TWO packages and other places had me going around in CIRCLES for two weeks and driving me nuts, I actually put in an inquiry... Still on the search, I finally arrive here and they went above and beyond! One woman was in the back while I actually got a call from another woman there about my inquiry (little did she know I was actually in line) and she stayed on the phone with me and searched for them with the other woman. Suddenly I could hear excitement from the back saying "I found it!" with actual joy and relief from her voice. And I was so relieved too. They found both my packages and had so much empathy as though they were hers. I couldn't thank them enough and had to write this review. Thank you again! read more

I would like to give a big shout out to Susan on this freezing cold Thursday, 1/31/19. Susan was the only employee at a Retail Window this morning. There was a long line and she approached each customer with a smile. She remained calm as many customers grumbled about how the lack of retail postal workers was going to make us all late for work. The USPS just raised the price of a Forever Stamp to .55 - I don't expect to wait forever to purchase one. I give Susan 5 stars. I give this branch of the USPS 1 (one) star. Terrible, terrible come! They are slow. The way you would expect civil-service employees that cannot be fired would be. There is never a supervisor to speak with.
