Terrible post office. 2nd worst I've had in Manhattan. Literally sat dialing their number for 20 minutes once, no one ever picked up - it was a weekday, middle of the day, not a holiday. I work in an office that is supposed to get our mail dropped off and picked up every day. The mail carrier only comes 60% of the time, and always at different times. TERRIBLE SERVICE. Outrageously horrific customer service. "Jennifer" the only passport agent available made me wait 30 mn to then announce that she was allergic to my 3 pd yorkie who was in a bag and is a service dog. I showed her the badge of the service dog, explained that it was a hypoallergenic dog but all the same she refused to attend me. As usual there was no manager available to discuss the case. Her colleagues said they could do nothing. So I left. However I wrote to the USPS inspection department to ask how can an allergic employee be put to work in a public space where she cannot handle customers with service dogs and I also wrote to the usps union to tell them that usps was endangering the health their employee. Jennifer was simply furious because the customer before me took a long time as she had to come back (after waiting for her passport for 3 weeks, the passport form was sent back to her because jennifer had forgotten to sign it) to restart the passport procedure from scratch. I unfortunately was the next customer and paid the price of her humiliation. USPS, this is completely unacceptable behavior from your employee and more important you need to move Jennifer out of the space where she works as you are endangering her health. will you even do anything? read more

This place is hell on earth. I have never gone in without someone yelling at me for nothing. I just stood in line for 20 minutes to drop off a package with one person at the window ahead of me. Everything that had made life civil is gone from this place. And if you ever need a passport and you go there good luck. They are rude and downright mean. And you will wait forever. No one cares. Everyone there is miserable and on a power trip. Occasionally they will have someone herding the masses with information, but not enough. I hate this place. its just awful. read more

This post office can definitely be hit or miss, but today, I had a particularly good experience, so I'm feeling generous. The post office was pretty much empty when I arrived around 7:30 AM. I had one package to ship to Spain. I also had an assortment of random items floating around my backpack that I needed to package and send as a gift. The man who helped me, Cannon, was much nicer than any other postal employee I have encountered. The post office was out of small boxes, so he gave me a big box and also some clear tape so I didn't have to pay for priority shipping (they never do this!). When I discovered the box was way too big, he took it back and gave me the largest envelope. I offered to pay for the box since I had sort of made a mess of it, but he said he wouldn't allow it. Once I had gotten my boxes in order, he weighed them and without being sneaky or derisive, told me what he thought was the best option. This really surprised me because I feel like when I go to the post office, someone is always trying to get me to buy insurance or stamps. But not this guy. I've lived in this neighborhood 25 years. The Post Office has never been worse. Really, it must rank as minus zero among those in Manhattan. Generally, there are 15 people or more on line and perhaps two clerks who regularly disappear from their windows and can take up to fifteen minutes to process a package. Sometimes lengthy conversations are held between employees or supposed management while customers wait. Holiday season is a nightmare. The Mailboxes Etc. in the neighborhood has acquired increasing patronage despite exhorbitant prices. Leave an hour for mailing something unless you're there when the door opens. read more

This is absolutely, hands down one of the worst Post Offices I've ever been to. I've had several good experiences with one lady, but every other individual behind the counter is an absolute nightmare. Every other visit can, at best, be defined as unpleasant and there's consistently a line of people waiting to lodge a complaint with a manager who seems to not exist. My guess is that this manager is either sick of apologizing for the terrible employees he/she can't get rid of, or is just as unprofessional as the rest of them. In one particular incident, a female employee began screaming and basically had a full-on meltdown when I asked for a particular bubble mailer. After pointing out that there was a stack of them on the counter behind her, she then outwardly mocked me. She said, "looking at you begging like a dog." How much humiliation can a person be expected to endure while trying to send Valentines's Day gifts to family and friends? The Staples at 81st & Broadway is the way to go. read more

I have a hard time saying that I love any post office, but this place isn't so bad. Yes, the employees can be a little rude and brusque, but I've actually still always found them helpful. They never seem overly crowded during the day, and even when there's a line it moves quickly. Its clean and well stocked enough, but like most post offices there's never a pen, so come prepared! read more

Sent a certified letter to my daughter, supposed to be delivered to her apt by 8pm on Aug 20. She got a text saying they had tried to deliver but they lied, her doorman stays at the front desk and will call if needed to sign, absolutely no one went into her bldg!! Since it was so close to 5:00, I'm guessing the carrier wanted to go home! My daughter complains constantly about lost mail, this place is terrible! read more

This is why you are going out of business, not because of some government fee you are whining about. You attempted to deliver a package yesterday. I wasn't here. I am here all day today. You offered me no option for a redelivery on the pink slip This is not a complete slam on the Planetarium Station. The individual who promised the re-delivery was on the national phone line. There may be some inefficient employees at the Planetarium Station, but most of them are kind, helpful and personable. It is the Post Office itself, with its inept use of technology - long waits on the phone line while they brag about their affiliation with FedEx and ignore the needs of places like the Planetarium Station. Nothing works there, and the Post Office doesn't seem to want to invest in the station. I think the Upper West Side crowd that benefits from the existence of this station should hold a benefit for them. What am I? George H.W.Bush? A thousand points of light. The current Republicans are trying to abolish government, not just the Post Office. I admit that the Postal Service is whining about a government fee. We should all be whining. Our taxes are going to unnecessary, brutal wars and to pay bloated plutocrats, ostensibly Congressmen, who don't care a whit about their constituents or the Postal Service. Yikes. This places needs a complete overhaul of employees. In the years that I have been forced to use this location, I have yet to come across one helpful or even just polite person. USPS should be greatly ashamed of the type of employees that work here. On top of that, Sandra did not allow me to bring in my emotional support animal today. I'll be giving my lawyer a call about THAT today since nobody else seems capable of shaping these employees up. On top of that, I saw a non emotional support animal in there last time I was there. Whats the reason for not allowing animals in the first place? No food/prep or sanitary reasoning here... just ignorance. The NYWEB site lists this post office open until 4:30 on Saturday . Upon arriving at 4 PM, I discovered the post office actually closes at 4 . An employee smoking a cigarette was standing in front of the double doors and did not permit the two of us who had just arrived to enter. Let me first start by saying that I've never been in a post office that deserves more than 2 or 3 stars. But that being said, this post office is the worst that I've ever been in and I'd give it minus three stars if I could. I think postal workers are trained to be exceptionally slow. The wait time at this post office is decent but if you go there around 5 o'clock bring a chair!! If you have to go pick up a package here cross your fingers that they haven't lost your package. They've lost two of mine that have never been seen again. It also takes them at least a half hour to find your package (assuming that they haven't lost it) with the messed up filing system that they have. I once waited in line behind two other people who were also picking up packages and they couldn't find any of our packages!!!!! They also seem to have some odd policies. They've refused to ship packages for me because they weren't packaged in plain boxes. I try to be environmentally friendly by reusing boxes that I get from the local grocery store. But on multiple occassions I've been told that they can't ship boxes with printing on them and that i would have to cover up the writing with their priority mail tape. I've shipped boxes like this forever and have never heard of anything so crazy until I moved to this post office. It's also noteworthy that these are just normal boxes and don't say aersol or anything on them that would warrant any kind of concern. The last few times they've said something about it I've just refused to do it (covering the box in tape kinda defeats the purpose of reusing the box). Also. I agree the people need attitude adjustments. And they really are all about you closing the window which is annoying. But I have to admit that if it wasn't there, I'd probably jump across the counter to strangle them. All in all. Avoid this post office if you can!!! read more

We recently moved, and my one regret is that we did not get away from this horrible post office. They lose more packages than they deliver. When they "attempt" delivery but aren't successful they leave one of those pink cards maybe 5% of the time. I pretty much receive packages only if I know they are coming and stalk them online so I know when to start trying to pick them up. Jermeen, of the now-defunct "pick up window" called me a sissy crybaby when he asked me for my address and I pointed out that it was on my driver's license, which he was holding. Incidentally he did not find my package that day. Mrs. Flowers and Supervisor Coles have never found a missing package. Nor have they ever cared about a complaint. We have had problems with every forwarding and hold order we've ever filed. Just over a year after our move we started getting between 1 and 3 pieces of mail per day for the former occupant of our apartment. We write "not at this address" and drop it in he mailbox...and it's re delivered, eventually (never quickly) Every employee I have dealt with in the 8 years I've been using this PO has been rude and bored and generally resentful. Recently the woman wandering the lobby (not the usual one, it was someone new) refused to let my young child use the bathroom. I know the don't have to but it's kind and greatly appreciated by any parent, in an emergency. We have never been refused anywhere else... She just laughed. We went to the car rental place a few doors down and when we returned the line had grown substantially and moved as quickly as you'd expect. I could go on for many pages... read more

They have no pens to write with because their fellow upper west siders rip them of the chain's every day. And it's the responsibility of the the clerks to supply them. We have to deal with condecension, pompousity and bloated egos who will SWEAR that the postal information they have is correct. They weigh their boxes on bathroom scales. They write FROM on the bottom of the box and TO on the on top of the box and then they become enraged when it's returned to them. Most of their handwriting looks unintelligible. These are customers who are American born. Very sad. And when guidance is attempted , they become combative. Then!! What's the next word??? RUDE.RUDE.RUDE. It's such a bull shit manipulative word that's used by a certain "class" of people. There are customers that are gems!!!! We love them and their demeaned. Kind and pleasant. Not abusive. No one picks up the phone. EVER. If they pick up, they hang up immediately. They also have lied twice about attempting delivery, as my building has a super who accepts packages (and I got a package from UPS on the same day USPS said they tried to deliver). They also lied about leaving a notice about attempting delivery. THEN they say you have to call the post office - but the phone is never answered. What do you say about a post office where the staff are largely friendly and chatty, and yet, for exactly this reason, a modest line can take twenty minutes to move? Long lines, decent service and rigid adherence to the rules are what you find here. Don't bother reusing that Amazon box unless you've scratched out all traces of Amazon with a sharpie, and don't even think of using their priority mail tape on a non-priority mail package. And woe to ye who does not have your certified mail / customs/ insurance form filled out prior to reaching the window. Okay, I exaggerate, but not by much. Twenty minute lines are the norm, forty minutes is not unheard of. The best time to go is Friday mid afternoon to early evening. On the plus side, unlike the poor poster who has had multiple packages lost, I've never had an issue picking up a package in 9 years. read more

Today while waiting for 45 minutes I watched a woman and her family get turned away from the Passport window because she didn't have an appointment! Here's the absurd part. There was no one else there! No one else in line for passports or who arrived during the 20 minutes I watched this lady try to convince the woman to just take her papers that were all filled out. Wow. and the post office lady just sat doing nothing and saying you need an appointment. WTF. Then I get to the window and I'm told she doesn't have stamps that I need, really?? You can't go somewhere back there and get them??? It's not like there's another window open, except for the passport window with the lady staring at the wall! read more

Employee at No. 6 register around noon on 10/23/2017 refused scan my pre-labeled packages after waiting in line for 20min. She just grabbed the packages and throwed them in the box. I politely said that I waited in line to have the packages scanned. The employee said that I should have asked for them to be scanned and "now they are gone". I politely asked to be retrieved from the box and scanned. The employee yelled to step aside. I politely said that I need to talk to someone who could help me with scanning the packages, and the employee kept yelling at me to move over until some other employee came to calm her. I have never been treated anywhere like that in any other business, I would like an official apology and a follow up from the manager. read more

jennifer the only passport agent on duty made me wait 30 mn before she declared that she was allergic to my service dog (a 3 pd hyppoallergenic yorky that was in its bag) and refused to serve me. I showed her the service dog badge but she couldn t care less. There was no supervisor present so i saw her colleague who said there was nothing they could do. I had to leave. In really i was being the victim of jennifer s anger because of the humiliation she felt. Her previous customer had confronted her with her lack of professionalism (jennifer had forgotten 3 weeks earlier to sign the passport form of that customer thereby forcing the customer to come back to have it signed and losing 3 weeks in the process). What is the post office doing putting allergic to dog employees to deal with customer who can potentially expose her with a service dog. She ought to be working in the back office. I wrote to the S. Postal Service Consumer and Industry Contact Office who is now handling the matter as well as the union as the postal employee is endangering her life is this position. I have definitely had issues with my particular mail carrier, but I just have to sing the praises of one individual at this branch. When I didn't receive a package that was supposed to be out for redelivery, I spoke to a Ms. Flowers who was so sweet and helpful and went above and beyond to help me out, even calling me back to give me all the information I needed. I have spoken to people at this branch who are rude, will cut you off while you're speaking, and generally be very inconsiderate. Ms. Flowers was not this way at all, and it is a breath of fresh air to deal with someone who is happy to help you. read more

I have experienced the worst customer service in this branch attempting to renew a passport. Both the agent and manager ganged up on me, threatening to close the station on me without completing my application. The agent disputed the validity/necessity of the documents I handed, refused to use a valid ID I had, My passport application may be in jeopardy due to the fact that the agent refused to use some of the documents I provided as instructed by The government web site at travel.state.gov. Zero Star Experience! Went in yesterday afternoon after work to send some last minute packages and had such a frustrating experience that I felt the need to sign up for yelp and share. After spending $20+ dollars to ship said packages, I noticed that the pieces of tape that I had holding the box together was lifting up. Fearing that the gift i was sending would get lost in the mail, I asked an employee at the quick service desk for a small piece of tape (that she had in front of her) to put on the bottom of the box. Mind you at this kiosk there were several people patiently waiting to take care of their own packages and beat the holiday rush. The employee instantly went into a great tirade, elevating everyones anxiety, stating that in order to get a small piece of tape i must purchase a whole roll. Since when after spending $20 something dollars to ship a package do i have to spend more money for an extra piece of tape just so my item doesn't fall out of the box?!? I wound up going home, getting more tape, and then went to a DIFFERENT post office where thankfully the employee was much friendly than the woman at the 83rd street location. Definitely will not be returning. Would much rather go out of my way and go to a different one. They are definitely unaccommodating and in need of in service training here.
