Over the course of one year, I have had 3 packages not delivered to me yet in the system it says delivered. I suspect someone is stealing from within this post office. One package that was shipped Priority 2 Day w/Shipping Confirmation and Insurance was posted as delivered. Upon asking for Email Proof, I receive a PDF from the tracking system with 2 BLACK BOXES in "Signature of Recipient" and "Address of Recipient". I'm filing a formal complaint with USPS and a police report. Please take extra care when making purchases and possibly choose a different mail carrier when ordering anything online or having anything delivered to you. read more

Disrespectful, rude, vulgar, trashy employees with absolutely no concept of service. This post office is dirty, regularly has broken equipment, is chronically understaffed and regularly has 30-40 minutes wait times. The employees are horrible human beings who should have to suffer the same mistreatment they visit upon their customers. No one working here deserves less than reprimand, censure and public humiliation. In the 9 states and 3 countries where I have been to post offices, this is the WORST. The people here really are extremely rude as well as incompetent. I go out of my way to be polite and friendly and nearly every employee gives me attitude regardless. They are never delivered when they should be -- instead I am always sent to the post office to pick up the package and then the package is never there. ("We can't find it.... Awful. I have a PO box and if I have a package or mailing to get from the window I'm never out in less than 15 mins. Normally I'm not politically extreme and believe in good government services but I have to agree with the Teabag party here and say raze the post offices to the ground! The service is terrible, and employees are just rude. Its clear management and staff don't care about customers. Currently standing on a line 20 long with one worker for the pick up window. There's 3 workers for the main line which is currently empty. A woman just asked one of the 3 for help since she's been waiting for a half hour. I was happy at 2:00 but then the understaffed ill trained clerks at this location were rude and not helpful at all!! (When they were present, they kept disappearing.). The whole place is run inefficiently. I really implore you to avoid this Post office if at all possible. Today I just went in to mail a small phone to Boston for my mom and I was instructed to use the wrong envelope so I had to go back and redux it Then get in line AGAIN after getting the right envelope. Then the clerk could not fix a mistake she made in charging me for insurance. Her supervisor yelled at her rudely in front of me. Which made her made at Me! Then she forgot to give me the stamps I paid for and wouldn't believe me until I fished out my receipt. I was in there for a total of 1 hour and 40 mins!!!! That's right...just to mail one thing. UGH. Another woman behind me in line told me she ONLY goes to the 68th street location because this locale is a total joke. She had a to pick up a package at this location or she wouldn't be there. It is not about the attitude od the staff. They were quite polite and generous with their time in my special situation. It is something much WORSE. It is about totally disregarding the rules of the USPS that requires all GENERAL DELIVERY mail to be held for 30 days. They - including the supervisor - have no idea. We received an envelope sent by Certified Mail and they quickly, IN LESS THAN 24 HORS, returned it to sender. Their excuse was that they DID NOT KNOW THE NAME. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people who do not have a permanent address use General Delivery. Of course they are not known locally. That's the point. read more

Possibly the most unfriendly, least helpful customer service experience I have ever had in the United States

Whenever I need to mail something, I try to go to the post office at 700 Columbus Ave. However, sometimes I have to go here - usually to pick up a package that was left here instead of being delivered. They also have other services that the smaller post offices don't have. All of these make it an occasional necessity, which is too bad because this place is ridiculous. I can't even take credit for saying that: the last time I was here, someone in front of me actually said that out loud and I could only nod in agreement. The waits are terrible, they barely have anyone manning the windows, and most of the time they act incompetent. When they are actually able to help you with something simple, they are slow as molasses. (Don't go here if you have any immediate plans to make afterwards.) This is the type of post office that gives the institution a bad name. read more

This is the WORST U.S. Post Office I've ever dealt with. They caused me A LOT of problems. 1. I filled out the forms to hold my mail while I was planning on being away for 4 weeks. I gave them 4 weeks advance notice. They completely screwed up. Kept delivering mail while I was away & then started the hold 3 weeks into my 4 weeks trip. THEN, I had 3 different senders tell me the mail they sent me during this time was returned & stamped "not deliverable to address" & "not at address & no forwarding info." 2. If #1 isn't bad enough, I gave them 4 weeks notice before I moved 4 blocks away. Again, I filled out all their forms & did everything EXACTLY the way they instructed me to. Needless to say, most of my mail went completely MISSING, a few pieces were returned to sender & I received my credit card bills 6 WEEKS AFTER they were due. I spent HOURS on the phone trying to address these situations. I wasted my time. They blamed "the system" & never provided me any feasible explanation. You are better off sending your mail/packages via pigeon express! read more

Tried to mail a flat rate package here today. The line was incredibly long, so I decided to use the self-service kiosk. Found the boxes--but no tape. Asked the manager for tape, and I was told to get on the line to purchase some!! Then a customer asked her if she was embarrassed by the long line. Her response, "Me? I don't care!" Terrible. I received a package notice yesterday (9/26) which they dated (9/24) but said that the package has been in the post office since (9/12)!!! I called the post office and they said it was the final notice (where was my first notice?!) and that I had no alternative but to pick up the package during office hours. There is not an option to forward the package to my work address- even after I offered to pay for it. No surprise that the USPS is going bankrupt- sad day for Benjamin Franklin. read more

Do not go here to renew your passport. The staff is rude, incompetent. They gave me false information and I had to come back again another day. After waiting in line for 2.5 hours I was told I didn't correctly photocopy the documents. The woman who walks around answering questions, let some people leave the line and come back and cut in front. Others were told if we left, we'd lose our place. Horrible staff. I saw other people waiting in line for packages only to be sent back in the line for whatever reason. I will go out of my way to use other post offices and buy my stamps at staples. read more

I have had many negative experiences of this place. Today in particular I left angry, humiliated, and frustrated. I had arrived at 2:45 to submit lost passport papers and a passport application. I waited in line for 15 minutes, only to be told at the window to go to another window, where no one was there. I had been misinformed, and on my own discovered the correct line. By that time, it was a few minutes past three, and the woman at the window said she couldn't see me because it was after 3. I told her I had been waiting since 2:45, and that rude WOMAN WHO WALKS AROUND the post office (who I see everytime, and is very rude) basically refused to listen to what I had to say. She claimed she had never seen me, so she could not believe that I was in the post office before 3. She was extremely rude, saying I may cry about it (which was completely out of line) and when I politely tried to explain that one of the employees had misinformed me of WHERE to wait, she refused to listen and made a point of walking away. I understand the post office is not doing great these days, but there is no reason to take it out on the customers. In fact, you may do yourself some good if you actually try to treat them nice! I want to get the name of that woman, and make a nice complaint about her. I am pretty sure I will not be the first. read more

I wish I could select no stars. I went this AM to mail a gift to my sister who is not feeling well. I was very excited to send her the gift! I left the post office with bad negative energy.. Not one pen out for customers to use in the post office and the nasty lady behind the window wouldn't let me use her pen to write an address on an envelope right in front of her! "Nope. In today's world where people are without jobs I am constantly amazed whenever I have to go into this branch (and more often than not I will walk 15 blocks in either direction to avoid having to deal with them) that any of these people got a job in the first place let alone are able to keep them. Everything was going just fine for my quick purchase of $4.26 worth of stamps, until ... I swiped my VISA card. Hitler, let's call her, shrieked, "Give me your card!" Then, "Aha! You haven't signed it! You must pay in cash!" I explained that I didn't have cash with me. She commanded, "Give my an ID with your signature on it." I explained that I was just coming to the post office with 2 credit cards in my pocket to mail a few hand written greeting cards, as I always do, and that both my credit cards have always been accepted without any problem. "But you haven't signed this card!" she shrieked. "Well then, I have another one which is signed. Let's use that," I replied. She refused my signed American Express card, which I have also used many times there with no problem, and with scoffing silence threw it back at me, holding on tightly to my poor, humiliated, unsigned VISA card. She again commanded me to go home and come back with an ID with a signature on it in order to be given my credit card back. I suggested that she just give me my letters and credit card back, cancel the transaction, and I would leave. "No, no," shouted the furious, wild woman. "I'm calling .... a Supervisor!!" There! That should fix my wagon! Finally a supervisor arrived and Hitler changed her whole story. "She refused to sign her credit card," she lied, and " I didn't want all this 'back and forth' with her," so I called you, said Hitler, self-righteously but meekly." Quite puzzled, the supervisor looked at us with barely a word. "Just give me my card and I'll sign it then," I said. With no choice, the defeated commander handed me my card and a pen that didn't work. I managed to make a mark on the back of the card that in no way resembled my signature, which was all over the envelopes I was mailing. In hostile silence, Hitler completed my $4.26 purchase and pushed a receipt my way. "By the way, I notice that the price of a stamp to Europe must now be $1.20 instead of $1.15, is that right?" I asked? "No, it's still $1.15." "Then why am I being charged $1.20? I asked. "With the stamps I added to your cards, it comes to $1.20", muttered Hitler. "Is there no such thing as a $1.15 stamp?" I asked. "Yes, there is a $1.15 stamp," replied Hitler. "Are you just out of $1.15 stamps today, then?" I asked. "Yes, I'm out of them," she confessed, humiliated that I had pulled that information out of her. I left the post office, victorious. After more than 15 minutes of waiting in line with only 2 people ahead of me, plus the 15 minute stamp purchase battle, not to mention the overcharge, I had succeeded in mailing 7 greeting cards!! read more

They forget they work and they get paid to offer a service and to do their job. A woman which her name is Anna is nasty and she is not professional. This is the first and only Post Office I have ever visited where pencils and pens are not provided to customers. If you fail to bring your own (who knew?) you must go home, get one, return and get back on line. Snarling clerks refuse all requests. A very kind fellow filling out a form allowed me to use his pen with a grim smile acknowledging that he'd been through this before. At minimum, they ought to post this along with the hours, or perhaps hire someone to rent pens at the entry? I can quite possibly say this is the worst experience ever. I have just spent 1.5 trying to send a package to new Zealand. Picture this. Two weekends before Christmas, 25 people waiting in line and 2 people serving. After an hour I make it to the front of the line to be served by a joyous lady, Naimah. Naimah gave me the costs for the package and after making me fill out one customs form said I didn't need to fill it out if I was sending it express. Move to the side to fill out the form and then go back to a different server and am told I need to fill out another customs form so am sent away again. At this point my usual calm self is beginning to loose it a little. End up back with the lovely Naimh and after having to repack my package as turns out u can't send nail polish as a Christmas present. In the heat of our exchange I ask her why she didn't give me the correct form in the first place to which she responds you didn't tell me it was international... Hmmm, she had quoted me a price to send the package to new Zealand already - guess that must be near Boston.. Anyway I have learnt not to expect much from the postal service but I do wonder how people who work for USPs actually still have jobs? There are many people desperate for jobs and surely a clean out of the incompetent people that work here is well overdue. In most companies incompetence results in firing - clearly not the same at the usps on 83rd street. read more

I went to the post office today and ... left as a happy customer. Yes, usually the post office is cramped and the waiting line long. But not today, and not at that hour I was happy enough to walk in: There was no line, I walked right up to the window AND the postal worker was very friendly! (We even joked about the horrible yelp reviews.) Of course the lady in the parlor was on the look-out, snarling at me that I use the wrong kind of tape. Well, every good story needs its monster. I have lived on the UWS and used this post office for 4 years - out of necessity as I can't afford to use DHL/UPS. The service has been awful other than one memorable visit in 2013 where there was a short line and friendly helpful counter staff member. There must be some reason that 99% of the staff here is rude and just plain angry all day and take it out on the customers. Are their labor conditions and salary bad? I don't know, I hope not. I have been a customer at Planetarium for many years and was next in line behind Mrs Julia C. on the day she claims the clerk had a "meltdown". Simply not true. I observed the transaction and it would have taken the patience of Jesus Christ to cope with this womans obnoxiousness. Meanwhile, the line became longer. Upon further analysis, she has reviews all over the Yelp web. Do people like this work for a living? What makes her or anyones review perception or truth? The staff is VERY nasty at this post office. The woman who walks around and "gives instructions" is very rude. The staff at the windows are always in a bad mood and god forbid you don't shut the window all the way when you give them a package. They will tell you off. I have complained about the staff at this post office and the manager called me back and insulted me further- he even used a racial slur in the "conversation". (I called the USPS headquarters to complain about the manager and no one helped me! it was a waste of time!) There is no way to apparently get these useless jerks in trouble- so beware! I apparently had to click at least one star to complete this review- but i really wish to give them no stars. They all deserve to be sucked into a black hole! (Apparently the last reviewer had a good experience, but that is never the case when I am in there. maybe she came to the post office on "opposite day"!) They do have a self-service machine, but the other day it didn't work, so i had to get on the line. Then the idiot woman who walks around "giving instructions" told everyone in a sarcastic voice that if we used the machine there wouldn't be a long line. So, I told her the machine wasn't working in a very kind voice... she said "Well...that is the first time I am hearing about that! (in a very snotty voice) and decided to then lecture me on how to use the machine, because it :was: working and apparently i didn't know how to use it! (meanwhile, i AlWAYS try to use the machine to avoid contact with these subhumans) She told me to get off the line and bring the package over. I wasn't going to do it , but against my better judgement I decided to trust the wicked witch. I went over to the machine and she stood over me and told me i didn't know how to use it, and that it was working and she was making me nervous so i hit the "envelope" button instead of the "package" button- she said "AHA- that's why it didn't work! you have a package! , you don't know how to use the machine!" and i said "the machine doesn't want to print the postage- i KNOW how to use the machine"..anyway to make this long story shorter, she walked away after telling me that I had a bad attitude and that she has been working there for 25 years and knows her job and left me to finish the transaction. I was so angry, fire was coming out of my eyes! i continued on with the transaction and voila! the "due to technical difficulties" message came on screen! i called for her to come over and she got all snippy and bratty with me! i stormed out! she wasted my time and was really rude. I can't believe the USPS keeps these rude, snotty and apparently miserable people in their positions- In a time when many people are facing job cuts! There are people out there that need work and would love a government job at the post office. USPS- YOU NEED TO "SECRET SHOP" YOUR POST OFFICES AND GET RID OF THESE PEOPLE. read more

I am new to the area and had two shipments sent by USPS go "missing" when i called to see if its at this location they would need a day or so to figure that out. I complained to vendors to not even bother with USPS because everything gets lost. It shouldnt be this hard to at least know where something is. read more

A stunning display of incompetence and cogent argument for privatization of snail mail. I'll just summarize. I just moved to UWS. I never received a mailbox key. Was told by management to speak with post office. After waiting and waiting, I inquired if they were able to help. They offered absolutely no suggestions aside from trying to sell me a PO Box. The supervisor was not only cold and rude about it, but then retired to the back (despite a huge line) and started gabbing to her equally inert colleague "He lost his key and now I have to solve his f***'n problem?" I'm not really sure what a supervisor is for except to help customers find solutions to their problems. There was a very Jerry Springer feel to the whole experience. read more
