Man, this place used to be 24 hours!?! Nice place to chill, and the Romanesque architecture is just nice to look at. It's got that imposing facade as if to dare you to mail something here. But I must say, while lines can be long (if you go at the wrong times), there's a lot of self service kiosks and even in the midst of this humid summer heat, they manage to keep it respectably cool inside. Check out the little model of the building in the left wing. Neither snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night stays these courageous couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. Can get crowded and can be easy to miss if you are looking for a tiny building. However, this is one of my go-to locations since they have very good hours and the automated postal centers don't normally have ridiculously long lines (unlike my post office where they took out the automated machines & have gone back to long waits and few competent employees to help you). read more

Three stars for one reason only - one of the few POs open late night. Word to the wise; if you do your taxes early, you can avoid dropping off your returns here. This is one of the worst Post Offices in New York City. Don't get a PO Box here because you won't ever get your mail on time. Sometimes they will lose your mail and you have to wait 3-4 weeks for it to show up. When the Post Office is busy with long lines, there will be 2 or 3 windows open but when the Post Office is empty, you will have 6 windows open. The workers here are slow, rude and lazy. Avoid doing business here and take your mail to different Post Office. read more

Architectural Significance Almost 90% of my NY experience was smothered in the delights of exquisite architecture that piqued my eyeballs during my many walks of blocks in the city that never sleeps. Because I had to mail out postcards to my dear friends back home, I was a visitor here twice to pick up stamps. One visit was quick because I utilized the kiosk and it actually printed out sticker stamps postmarked. Another time, we were waiting in line for about 30 minutes or so because there was only one window open. And what we learned, was that natives like to voice their opinions and we found it quite important to make sure to listen. Not to mention, I was loving his accent ;) Once the supervisor saw the holdup, he pointed people over to an adjoining window and that moved us along two-fold. read more

In my opinion this is the most beautiful building in NY and a reminder of what we lost when they destroyed the original Penn Station to put the hideous Madison Square garden in. Gone are the days when 500,000 people a day cycled through a building such as the post office stands today. Now they sit below ground. The USPS had some sense and did not sell out on their building. It still stands today and I have mailed packages here as well. The clerks are nice and the interior is also beautiful. Fortunately commuters will once again have a nice building as it will become a train station as well. I think anyone coming to NY should check out this building and walk inside (FREE!) Big mamma jamma! I love going into this one for the history and architecture of the place. But the customer service is typical USPS sucktastic. The special stamp room doesn't have half of the stamps displayed. And you almost always have a line even on the self-serve machines. I use this place all the time even though I don't live in Manhattan any more. There are lots of things about it that I love, but the most important ones are: 1) the interior architecture/design, and 2) if you send a package Priority Mail from here, it will arrive at places quite far away often as fast as Express Mail, and -- once -- faster. Fact. They have senior postal people wandering around the floor to answer your questions, which can reduce waiting time substantially. If you're planning to do the last-minute tax thing (4/15, after 5:00 PM), though, be sure to bring stamps with you, even if you have to buy them from a convenience store. read more

I do all of my mailings and other post office related stuff at the main post office for the city. YES, if you come at the peak times you can most definitely expect to stand on line for more than an hour because everyone had the same idea as you. However, for some transactions (not money orders) you can skip the insanely long lines and go to the self-service kiosks. Also if you're coming here for anything Passport related, they just have one window open for that, so make sure you have everything you need, so you don't have to get off the line. When I do have to stand on the lines I must say I am quite pleased with the customer service that they provide. The window agents are always quite helpful and polite. This location is actually open 24/7 but the windows aren't. It's the self-service kiosks that are always available to be used. After 5pm there aren't multiple lines for different transactions, everything is just one big line. So be prepared for that. Bring an iPod or a good book to read because that line gets loooooooong. read more

Hands down the best experience I've had with USPS in New York. This post office is super organized, with a system that tells you what window has just freed up. Daniel was very pleasant to work with. From the cheery greeting when I stepped up to his window to the very efficient, friendly service I received, I was blown away. This was a much nicer experience than the other post offices I've been to in NYC. The building is huge and very pretty. Also one of the nicest looking post offices ever. The Farley station used to be open 24 hours; sadly, budget cuts forced them to reduce their hours, like everyone else. So what to say about a post office? Well, just wanted to give props to all the employees who dealt with a VERY tough tax deadline this October 15. Yes, I was there for over 3 hours, but given what they had to deal with, I appreciate the patience and persistence of everyone working that night. There were more windows opened than I'd ever seen, and quite crazy lines. Folks were utilizing the automated postal machines, making friends on the long line, and all the while, the architecture was not too bad to stare at. The person at the window wasn't snarky or mean in spite of all the labor she had to do (calculating out exactly how many stamps to put on each package and sticking them on expertly because it was after midnight, and I was still entitled to the Oct 15. postmark for getting there at 11:10pm). Also, no chaos ensued in spite of the great vulnerability for such. Oh yeah - even though I've been here for many a postmark deadline night, this also happens to be my local post office! Given the volume these folks deal with on a regular basis, it's amazing how great the service is. 5 stars and mad props. read more

This ain't no party, This ain't no disco, it's just an old postal cave. Yep, once again you find me in another odd building, this time the gargantuan 33rd st Post Office (Also known as Skylight at Moynihan Station in Midtown Manhattan. The post office is enormous covering two entire city blocks and apparently slated to become a mall, train station and more in a couple years. It's a typical government building, bulky, imposing and somehow it will hurt. It's chuck full of dust, grime and 100 years of postal bad vibes... there's even spy posts for managers to peek in on workers in one sorting room (see photos, the white boxes were the entry to catwalks) This week, it's just another work venue and we're in the guts of the building, the sorting and loading dock areas, for an event "Experience" for a major American manufacturer (don't ask). I'm rubbing elbows with more GenXers than you can rattle a saber at. They are supposedly "Team Members" that mill about taking selfies and engaged in a strange self promoting posturing whilst staring into space. The real workers stagehands, engineers and production people are busily getting it done for real, not on an iPad. It will last many days and throngs of media and good 'ole humans, it is hoped, will pass through those revolving doors and get... an "experience". Go get'em pilgrim Meanwhile, unbeknownest to passerby, two worlds collide in America's workforce. You just don't know how much fun you're missing. read more

When someone told me there was a post office open 24 hours, I thought it was too good to be true. "She must mean everyday except Sunday," I thought. "Maybe she means the doors are always unlocked if you need to drop something through the slot." I made the trek and saw for myself that this wonderful parcel paradise is indeed open 24/7. There are plenty of materials and supplies available, the service was great, and they had Automated Postal Center machines. The facility itself is huge and the architecture gives off a classic old-timey vibe. The location is pretty convenient, too. The best part is knowing I can stop by literally anytime I need to send something out. It's everything you'd want in a post office and more! read more

The only good thing about this place is its hours. Closes at 10pm during the week HELLO! No matter how many tellers they have here you always have a long wait. I've come at so many different times of the day and always wait 30mins or more on line. It doesn't help that some of the staff are unhelpful and rude. I love this post office. I went here only once, mind you, to send my brother a birthday present. Its the first post office I've been to in a major city where I didn't have to wait in any sort of line. When people aren't using boxes or packing materials, they just kind of leave them around so you don't necessarily have to purchase those things-- home-grown recycling! Whatever you do though, stay on the main service line if you need to see a clerk. 8 out of 10 times when I get off the line to the so-called stamps only line I seem to wait longer on that line with 4 people than the main line with 25 people which always moves faster. read more

They open early and close late compared to other USPS buildings. I like that fact that it's roomy and huge. Negative thing is that the tables rarely have pens. Always bring one with you because if there is a pen, someone's probably using it. I have been very happy with this post office over the past few years. Maybe losing the 24 hour service helped them to become a better managed operation for some reason? They still have greatly extended hours, which is an awesome convenience to have. Unlike the 42nd Street (Times Square) and 52nd St (Radio City) locations, which must be managed by complete imbeciles, this location features quick, well organized, and friendly service, and they cheerfully give receipts acknowledging acceptance for prepaid items, unlike the aforementioned locations run by moronic idiots. read more

This post office is beautiful, and makes a trip to drop off some mail or buy some stamps feel like you're stepping back in time a bit. Sometimes I wish that everything in New York city looked like this. The different lines are clearly marked, and the last time I went, there was a postal worker walking around, directing people to the proper place, and checking with people who were already on the line to make sure they were in the correct one. I went here to take care of my passport, expecting to take my photograph there because it said online that they had that service on the premises. After standing in the line for a good 20 or so minutes, I learned from someone else ahead of me that the camera wasn't operational. I had to run out to the Duane Reade across the street, and come back to be several people behind where I initially was, which was irksome and inconvenient. read more

Best post office in NYC! Open 7 days a week, you can't go wrong. I do miss the 24/7 service, because they did away with that, I am docking you one star. Depending on what time of day you come, you may or may not expect to wait on a long line. But for me, it's usually never an issue because I use the convenient APC machines. With plenty of them available, the lines for the APC is usually very short or no line at all. The postal employee that goes around helping people is very helpful, she makes sure your standing on the correct line, and have all the proper forms filled out before you reach the window, making the line move along nice and smoothly! read more

This place is ridiculous. I buy 100 stamps at 2 self service machines. They don't come out. In the sheets that did come out, there were Christmas holiday stamp sheets in March. I need these stamps for NON holiday items. I ask someone for assistance and they come to install the newer sheets and they're all holiday sheets. I tell them I can't use holiday stamps in March. They're for my wedding invitations in the fall- I can't use holiday stamps! That worker tells me not only are they my only option, but that I cannot exchange the sheets once they come out of the machine! I tell him they shouldn't be in the machine. I tell him that not only is it the wrong time of year, but people with different backgrounds are also going to be equally frustrated. He tells me to get in line after all of this. One more worker who assists people in line tells me I cannot exchange the sheets once I get them from the machine and I am stuck with Christmas stamps. I told her it wasn't MY error, and that holiday stamps shouldn't be ON THE FLOOR AT ALL. I go up to the person in the window and I'm frustrated and she tells me essentially to get over my frustration. I express my frustration and she says "That's just your opinion." Not wanting to stir the pot, I show her my receipt and show them the holiday stamps and then she calls over the guy restocking them and say "How many times do I have to tell you to stop stocking the holiday stamps?? She might need these for business! It's March!!" and the guy says "that's all we have." And the postal worker said "Then we will be out of stamps. But people cannot use Christmas stamps in March." Please know that I explained this to two workers before I got to the window and was treated like I was a problem and was told twice that I couldn't exchange them regardless. Then I was told my experience was just an opinion. It was like what I said was untrue and then I had to go through 30 minutes of line waiting and going through incompetent people til the one competent person told everyone what I had been saying for a half hour. TERRIBLE. DO BETTER. STOP GASLIGHTING. read more

This is one of my favorite post office locations because it is really big (spans from 32nd to 33rd St), but I HATE the long lines. Seriously, with all that space to process all the mail & packages, you would think everything moves very quickly, but there is almost always a line to have a rep help you. I frequent the machines to purchase stuff, but they don't always allow me to buy the stamps if it is less than $1.00 (painn). When I actually have extra time to wait for a rep, I have found them all to be extremely helpful & kind when processing your order. Many people dine on the steps in the spring & summertime --- this always shocks me because that also means dining w/ the pigeons strutting around next to you (or flying above you and your food). read more
