BLUE MAIL BOXES ARE AT THE BACK OF THE BUILDING! It's a little confusing but they are there and they have always been there. I'm constantly in this post office and I often find that the customers are the problem more than the postal workers. Between people showing up with their packages missing crucial forms or not even sealed to folks who just want to yell at someone. If you show up with your stuff in order you'll more than likely be in and out with out hassle pretty quickly. There are legit complaints though but they almost all have to do with USPS policy and not anything from this specific station. For instance the USPS lost their contract with the company who did the automated machines so they had to be taken out. This is something that needs to be fixed at the highest levels. Nothing can be done by the branches. So when you're behind me in line please refrain from moaning to everyone how you just need to get a single stamp and don't tear in to the clerk when you get there. Just like anywhere there are clerks who are great and those who should have lost their jobs long ago. At this station I think the good outweigh the bad. read more

Never in my life has a customer service representative made me cry. Before today, that is. I unfortunately don't know the name of the postal service worker who assisted me today, but she was beyond rude throughout the entirety of our interaction, to the point where I burst into tears the moment I got back to my car. Closest post office to where I work but worst branch. There's always a line, rain or shine. I left today after waiting 10 minutes and there were at least 10 people ahead of me and 10 behind. It is understaffed and although the people who work there are usually nice they are slowwww. I'd rather drive out of my way to any other branch. read more

What a surprise that this gets 2 stars! Sadly with the curtailment of passport offices I went here with an appointment. I arrived at the requested ten minutes before the scheduled appointment. When I went to the clerk to check in I was greeted with, "sit down." It took her 15 min beyond my scheduled time to finish the transaction. At that point when I approached her she stated in a loud voice that she had not taken her brake and questioned whether I actually had an appointment. This post office location is always fully stocked with items that I need and staff is so helpful and friendly.

Never seen a post office this poorly run. Here's a typical Saturday, and it's exceptional that more than 1 clerk behind the desk. I intentionally have packages marked as not fragile and do everything possible to avoid having to pick up a package in person. This is a highly populated busy area. read more

Did not ask for her name because I felt that would only escalate what was already a terse situation, but there is an older lady with glasses and shoulder length brown hair that works at this USPS, and is just downright rude to customers. Today, I approached an employee at the counter who seemed like she was training (she had to ask questions to other staff about how to do things). I was trying to mail a return package to the UK, and the rude lady came to show the new employee how to do international shipping. She slapped a customs form in front of me, yelled to me to fill out the gray areas on the form and told me to leave the counter and line up again after I completed the form. I did so, but wanted clarification about how to fill in a UK address on the form, so I filled out everything else and figured I could ask for help with just the address when I got to the counter again. When I got to the counter after waiting fifteen minutes in line, she yelled at me that it was not USPS's job to know how UK addresses work and that she could not help me. She yelled at me to write the address down exactly as was on the return label and when I hastened to do that, she yelled at me to leave the counter and line up again because I had not finished filling out the form. I just left at this point because I'd already been there for half an hour, and didn't have another half hour to wait in line only to have this employee yell at me again. Seems like a lot of other reviewers have encountered this employee and that's unfortunate. Don't know how she still has a job there. read more

I've been to many post office and have encountered watching employees stand around and do nothing in plane sight. But this location, employees ARE working. Yes, I get that lines can be slow at times. Just remember, it's important to them as well what you're mailing out gets to where it needs to be or other service is done right. It was my first time obtaining a passport, I was so clueless. Norma was so helpful, she answered every question and told me step-by-step best of her knowledge what I was to do next. This is the ONLY post office I will go to. read more

Horrible service! My wife and I stopped by here to submit a passport application for our infant daughter. We were told that passport acceptance is by appointment only. Fair enough...But when we called the next day, we were told the first available appointment is more than two weeks away! The clerk at this office had given us a photocopied list of other passport acceptance facilities in the area, so I tried some of them -- but the listed phone numbers were wrong for the first two I tried (the Piedmont Ave USPS and the UC Berkeley rec. sports facility). Thank goodness I persisted and got the number for the USPS location on Piedmont Ave (at 41st st.) There, the friendly and efficient clerk told me I can come in any time between noon and 1:30 (without appointment) and made sure I had all the right docs in hand. We are headed to the Piedmont Ave. USPS office today...but will avoid this Temescal office like the plague! read more

This is a nice little post office. The day I went it wasn't very busy and the postlady was very nice to me! I even showed up 20 minutes before closing and was able to mail my package with ease. No it's not a fancy place, yes the parking lot is small but who cares it functions just like any other post office. read more

Nothing short of horrible. Who knew trying to send an expedited passport application could be so traumatic? After waiting in a short line that took FOREVER to move, I was dismissed, then barked at twice by two different clerks. I was rushed out at closing and realized after that I left something important there. After banging on the window for 5 straight minutes, was told that my item was mailed to me and I should see it In a few days. Nothing arrived. Today, after standing in another painstakingly slow line, asked where my item was sent (ie. Work or home address as I had mailed a few things with different returns) only to be barked at again and handed my item. Yup, it never even was mailed and no one had a clue why the clerk who answered the door previously told me otherwise. Zero stars. read more

Is Kafka the new Postmaster General? I called here to schedule an appointment to get my passport renewed as I have a trip coming up very soon and going directly here is supposed to expedite that process. When I finally spoke to someone they said their next available appointment was in the middle of July. Seriously? Two months from now? This probably takes five minutes and you can't squeeze it in until July? The whole point of going direct to the USPS was to save time and get this processed quickly. Worst post office in existence. It is so bad that I am writing a review about this branch so that there will be more data when I notify the Post Master General. And yes, I am serious. This place seems like it is on a work slowdown. People are working like they are hungover / stoned and there is always one person standing at the front doing nothing but staring at the line heading out the door saying things like "any pickups?" or today, "anyone need stamps and want to pay with a credit card?" I mean, one person is dealing with customers in slow motion and this other bozo is leaning on the counter asking if people want to buy stamps. Dude, the line is out the door. I yelled from the back of the line if there was anyone else who could work the front, and leaning dude was like, "someone will be here in 5 mins. They start at 9AM." Of course, I was there after 9AM so where are they? Let's point out is the the week before Christmas so maybe you might want to staff up? Somehow stamp charging dude thinks calling out a few words every few minutes constitutes a JOB. Well IT IS NOT. The frustrating thing is that while I would expect a post office to busy this time of year, but IT IS ALWAYS like this. There is always the random GUY standing there staring blankly at the line and asking questions and one person slowllllly processing orders. Seriously save yourself and don't go here or do what I did, yell at the guy and then head to the UPS Store where you will have a pleasant experience. No wonder the Post Office is in trouble. read more

This is my favorite Post Office location. It is located inside a small shopping mall. The past few times I have come the line has been short or no line at all. The people who work inside are friendly. There is also lots of free parking if you don't come at lunch time. read more

If I could give you negative stars, I would. You wait in line for 45 minutes, but they have no pens and of course you forgot one - likely left it on the table by the door. So you get up there, with ONE ADDRESS to fill out - in America mind you - not a long, long foreign address, and even though it will take them longer to get their act together then it will take you to write the address on the package, they make you *leave the desk* and go back to the front of the line to wait again. Which, let's be honest, could be another 20 minutes. Then they chastise you for not bringing your own pen when you ask them why all of the pen strings have no pens on them and then they also throw in a dig to imply you personally have stolen one of their pens previously. Rude is too nice of a word to use in this case. Nasty would be more appropriate. read more

My experiences there have actually been decent. And, though hidden, and unfortunate in its placement, there is in fact a mailbox: It is BEHIND the post office entrance, on the other side of the building facing 49 th street and it is actually quite convenient to just pull up to. But, indeed, it took me several times to figure this out. At least they should have a sign referring to it, and an additional mailbox in front would not hurt at all. read more

This location is a classic example of why the USPS is not doing well. They are understaffed and do not know the meaning of customer service.

They quoted me a shipping price on a package, I even brought the package with me so there would be no mistakes, and yet when I came back the next day to ship the exact same package, no changes whatsoever, they said it would be three times what they had told me the day before. Astounded, I asked why. They just shrugged. Then there is all the mail they've returned to sender for no identifiable reason. The carrier denies it, even dropped off a nasty handwritten note about it. And yet all the senders have had to resend paychecks, dog licenses, bills, etc. And let's not even get into the 3 certified packages I was supposed to receive which they lost. I got the notice to pick them up, but they couldn't find them when I went down to collect them. They couldn't even track them! They simply vanished. Where do they find these people?!? read more

At the time when I used to live in Marin CA (North of SF CA or the other side of the pond). I was House sitting with a family friend of my ex-bf Klye and I went to this Postal Office LORD they had KILLER lines almost 2 LONG lines (few people had to waited for few hours in line) in which the people there didn't speak a word of ENGLISH! One was Chinese and other was a mex's both had to be new working their since each custome was getting a little mad at them wanting few items and they said WE SPEAK ""NO ENGLISH"" but noooooo my bf at the time did not want to go else where! Anyhow we went to the one who was a mex and my spainsh is weak. I ask for few Forever stamps and they look at me their no such a thing. After that I walk out PO! I head to the Mill Valley Marin CA Postal Office and yet its a ZOO there but since the East Bay Location was a joke me and my bf at the time was NOT at lease please with them! Why can they hire AMERICANS in the FIRST PLACE?????? Plus the Customer Sevicer MGN was tooooooooo busy take a smoking break! read more

If I could give this less reviews I would. The lady that I talked to was the absolute rudest, shittiest person I have had to deal with in customer service. I couldn't even get her name because she wouldn't even speak clearly. I called simply to ask about a package that FedEx said had been unable to deliver and apparently sent it to this post office. She was not helpful, rude, and flat out refused to check the back to see if the package was there. I was nothing but polite to her but this is by far the worst post office I have ever experienced. On rare occasions, they've been friendly enough to let me in even after their closing hours, or just hand me a package through a door when there was a really long line. For the most part, standard postal experience, and not much parking. read more

Stood in line for over twenty minutes while two clearks helped one person each and when someone finally emerged from the back I asked if they could get a package I came to pick up and her response was "ugh I'm doing something totally different right now. The pick up window is right here but he's gone and gone home already". Are you kidding me? Does that mean I cant get my package? Now its been almost a half hour and I'm looking at the clock and thinking about how I have to get home to get ready for work and these well paid full benefit receiving state employees won't help me. Waited 45 minutes to get a money order and a receipt. Two cashiers there but, like always the Asian lady doesn't feel like actually helping anyone last month she kept passing people off to the other lady. And the other cashier said: yes I can help them, I actually help our customers - been going there for about two years and every single time I go, employees are rude, short with you and have NO sense of urgency. I don't have much of a choice as to going there. Since my landlord requires us money orders and I always get a recipient of mailing. It's so frustrating, since our tax dollars pay them. Seriously the WORST customer service ever!!! Right along the line with DMV employees... :( Let me just point out that there were literally 25 people in line and only one girl moving the line - the Asian lady ( in some of the pictures as a rude a... b) was with the same people the whole 45 mins taking her time. I use USPS a lot and I've always been pretty happy with the service here. Granted, it's a post office and (let's be honest) the bar is set very low. I don't go in expecting anyone to be patient with me while I fill out an address at the counter or expect them to have any supplies on hand to use for free. So, for a post office, I give it four stars. If I were comparing it to the experience I have at, um, anywhere else in the world, I'd give them fewer. read more

Stay away from this post office, especially if you need a passport!! I went to the post office to obtain a passport for my son and the Asian female employee was very rude and unprofessional. The first time I went, I had everything together but needed my son's photo taken at his appointment. I arrived early enough that she could have taken his photo but after waiting in line for 15 minutes (10 minutes before my actual appointment time and 5 minutes into my appointment), she finally asks if someone has a passport appointment (although I identified that upon my arrival) and when I notify her that I will need a photo taken of my son for his passport photo, she tells me that it's too late to take his photo and that I should have come earlier (I was already early!!!!!!!!). I went to Walgreens (which is in the same location as this post office) to get my son's picture taken, which took only 5 minutes as they printed it on the spot and returned to the post office. The employee once again, looked at all of my documents and my son's passport photo only to tell me that I needed to reschedule. I rescheduled his passport appointment for the next day and arrived on time to his appointment. The same Asian female employee, looked over my documents again and then said my application had to be one-sided (I printed the online application double sided), so I will need to fill out another one, which I did. Then she took his documents again and looked at his photo and said she couldn't accept my son's application because his mo-hawk was cut off in his passport photo and she needed an entire head shot. By then, I was furious because she had already looked over my son's application and his photo the day before and said nothing about his picture or the double-sided printed application. She never mentioned that there was an issue the day before when I clearly asked her before leaving, if everything was okay and in order to make sure that there wouldn't be any delays in processing his application!! Why in the h*ll, didn't you say anything when I asked, but wait until the next day after I've had to go through all of this BS for a passport only to tell me you can't accept it because of a photo that I clearly asked the day prior, if it was okay?!!! Then you have the nerve to have an attitude as if I did something wrong after you see that I am clearly pissed off!!! Not only did she waste my time, she clearly exhibits poor customer service and thinks I have nothing but time to waste. Not sure if she was bias or racist and can't see how a black woman can afford to travel to other countries with my children or if she's just a bitter employee that hates her job, but she needs to be fired!!!!! I will say this..... If USPS hopes to sustain itself against competitors such as DHL, FedEx, UPS and others, they need to hold their employees accountable when part of their job duties is to provide exceptional customer service! Every day, my tiny home business generates one or two boxes, and each day I visit the North Oakland post office counter. Competent and speedy people. Even better - happy, friendly people who respond with smiles. I've watched as they've patiently explained postage alternatives to elderly patrons, and when they've buzzed through a line of last minute Christmas shippers. The counter staff keep up to date with the latest changes; they've helped me with finding the lowest rates and fastest shipping methods to the most obscure corners of the world. And when my two kids needed passports - well, we made an appointment and the Postal People at the Shattuck office did everything. Smooth! If I could give this horrible establishment 0 stars, I would. In fact, I'd go negative. They failed to deliver a package to my door today after I paid for expedited shipping. They stated that no one was there to authorize the package, but, in reality, no signature was necessary PER THEIR TRACKING PAGE. What? I just spoke to a representative who would NOT reveal her name, telling me she cannot use computers and will let me know when someone who can use their computers would be back in the office. She tried to hang up on me several times, never asked for a tracking number, and asked if I had any suggestions for her on how to track packages. Isn't that your job? Finally, she ended the conversation with, "well, I think maybe you just shouldn't use the Postal Service anymore." Believe me, if I had a choice, I wouldn't. Dear Post Office Users, This review is for the North Oakland Post Office in Temescal. Many of the people who work here are very friendly, yet on more than one occasion there have been witnessed incredibly rude, nasty treatment of very polite would-be package senders. On Dec. 9, 2008 one young woman was brought to tears by the bitter and mean postal attendant. Because of this, I will avoid this post office at all costs.
