Due to the ever changing policies of the US Government, getting a passport for our little girl was…read moreless than a snap. On our first trip, we found out that we needed to make an appointment. After we made an appointment for a few days later and although we checked the web site current regulations where we only needed the parents to show our faces, we were told that they also needed to see our little girl in the flesh. A third trip to accomplish what we set upon. Once we had satisfied all of the obstacles, we submitted the application and now we wait. Hopefully, our little girl can go to Aruba for Christmas. As an aside, both of the people in the post office we very friendly and genuinely seemed interested in helping us acheive our goal. They were informative and at the same time, sensitive to us in our dilemma.

The equipment at the facility apparently breaks down constantly and instead of trying to send damaged mail to the recipient or back to the sender, if it just contains papers. They are thrown out! No matter if you paid a few bucks because of size and weight. You'll never get it back! Further, items to Montauk or Amagamdrtt never arrive regardless. Even , Priory mail gets treated poorly at Mid Island distribution center. And FYI, DON'T BOTHER ESCALATING YOUR LOSS TO THE POSTAL INSPECTORS. NOTHING COMES OF IT. THEY JUST EMPATHIZE.

Lesson learned I suppose, it doesn't matter how short the line is to start, leave yourself at least 10-15 minutes (or more) to complete a simple transaction. You just never know how long at the P.O. the person ahead of is going to take at the parcly staff front counter. The service was friendly and quite pleasant, that was a wonderful change in comparison to my other Post Office experiences. The postal system was established from what I read in 1775. I wonder what Benjamin Franklin who was the first Postmaster General would think of our Postal Service today. Would he be happy if the Mailboxes were changed to blue in 1971? Or that the mail is not delivered by mule. From what I read, mail is delivered by Mules on a long trail in the Canyon of Arizona. Amuse yourself and find an article on that note.
