Once again the outside drop box is jammed because someone tried to deposit a package. This has been a problem ever since the new drop box was installed a couple of years ago. I went inside the building to talk to the person in charge. He said that the problem is due to people depositing packages into the drop box chute. He also said the he is not responsible for the design of the drop box. I asked if he could install a permeant sign that said, "ENVELOPS ONLY. NO PACKAGES ALLOWED OF ANY SIZE". He said that he would have to mention that to the "Postmaster " because he is not allowed to make any decisions. HUH!!!! Typical government job. read more

I have never had such a horrible time with this post office until this year (2016). The postman regularly does not deliver the mail to my building and sometimes delivers others mail to us, and when I call the post office they rarely pick up. They do not leave delivery notifications and when they had problems with their own key entering my condo building they stopped delivering all together and did not let any of the residents know until one of us called and asked. And then they blamed it on us though they are responsible for their own postal keys and the mail boxes. Also every time you visit they are VERY rude, lazy and show no regard for you or your mail. For all the money we pay they could at least show some customer service. This post office is by far the worst in the area. I am going to call the main headquarters and complain. I went there for the 1st time, on a Tuesday afternoon. It was not too busy and their was not much of a line. I waited for about 1 minute. The transaction was ok, not speedy, but not slow. They have a lot of packaging materials available such as envelopes of different sizes to ship things and they are reasonably priced. Parking is ok. There are separate entrances for Enter and Exit so be careful. The building could be more inviting. It is in a business area and it blends into that environment. I would go back again. read more

Literally the worst post office ever. Got a notice that a package couldn't be delivered due to needing a signature. I immediately redirected the package to be picked up here the next day. Go in the next day and "it's not there". I showed the girl my confirmation email and asked her to call the carrier to see if he can just leave it without a signature. She said she can't, only her supervisor can and that she's busy. She took my info and said her supervisor would call. Literally 20 minutes later they call and say the package is actually there?? I am very disappointed with the lack of customer service at the Palatine Post Office. I work for a business in Palatine and this week, we DID NOT receive mail service (pick up nor delivery) two days in a row. The Executive Director had to hand deliver the mail to them, without any type of apology. Whenever I call, the people at the front desk are rude, hang up or never call back. I'm a regular here and can compare it to other places nearby. I have shipped several items from here and I am happy to say they track it within that day (within a couple of hours). This is such a sense of relief that they do it that day and are their A-game. I have used other post offices nearby (Buffalo Grove) and they take forever to even track my packages! So thank you Palatine Post Office. My delivery man, will also take smaller packages I leave in my small box (from a condo perspective). Yay and THANK YOU! I realize that some people may see the people at the Post Office as "rude" but they make the lines go fast and answer your questions. I have learned to always say hello, smile and ask my question or what I need. When I seem sincere and nice, they are pretty nice back. I have had some questions about shipping and one was able to help understand this process (granted I went to at an off-peak time) but the ladies can be nice. I will say that the lady that opens the door to pick up anything under your name is rude and never in a good mood. She has an attitude and seems to be upset. It is as all the post offices, very busy. Packages are stacked up three tier high on the counter, and the mail box is stuffed to the point that I can easy reach in if I were that person, and take mail placed in the BLUE mail boxes. Staff is over worked, and they are trying to keep up with the large influx of services needed. Personnel need more help is what I see being the problem, moral is low with the employee due to the volume of work the are required to take on. Please hire more employees. read more

I called ahead of time to make an appointment to get my password renewed because the online portal wouldn't let me. The employee informed me I wouldn't need an appointment the following day because they were having a "passport fair" starting at 10 am. We got there right at 10 and there were about 4 people in front of us. But there was no fair, no tables set up just a line. At about 10:20 an employee comes out and says "sorry for the delay, the passport person just went on break." It was a Saturday morning and the office had just opened, why was someone already on break? All of a sudden a customer walks in to the front of the line because they had a 10:30 appointment. This was after being told there were no appointments because it was a fair. This continued to happen all morning long. Having used the Palatine post office for over 30 years I think its fair to say it has never been a 3 or 4 star post office. You have always had to wait an unfairly amount of time to do almost any business with them. The employees really don't care about servicing their customers in any way shape or form. Today at 8:45am there were no less than 13 people waiting in line to pick up mail or packages. As I left the building they had rung the service bell NO LESS than 12 times (no one ever came while I was waiting in my long line with 1 person at the counter). No wonder the post office is dying, people would rather utilize anything else but their lousy services. If I could award them negative stars I would! What is with the Palatine post office? Just got done bringing a package in to be mailed. This was a padded envelope 7 x 5. Had to be an less than 1/8 inch thick. I pressed the button that said it contained nothing liquid fragile or hazardous. The woman behind the counter looked at me with a nasty look and said what's in it. I said it's mail, nothing fragile liquid or hazardous. She asked me again what's in it and again I said "it's mail nothing liquid fragile or hazardous". She was snotty and said well the post office is supposed to know what's in it. If I went to UPS and said nothing liquid fragile or hazardous they would never insist on knowing what was inside the package. Besides any time I go to UPS they are very nice! Maybe that's where I should go more often. I don't get it, the postal employees gets paid very well with benefits that most of us don't get. read more

Once again, this post office has been a total nightmare! I ship a lot of packages with a company called Poshmark. Poshmark has an agreement with the USPS that sellers on the site can use pre-paid priority mail shipping labels on any usps priority mail box including flat rate and regional rate boxes. It says it clearly on the shipping label. I was putting my boxes in the mail box inside and one of the mail clerks started yelling at me. She told me I wasn't allowed to use the priority mail flat rate box with my priority mail shipping label. After going back and forth with her telling her that I clearly could use it, she took my package and would not give it back to me until I paid the extra postage. I said I wasn't going to pay extra postage when the label was meant for the box and was already pre paid. She continued to threaten me and said she wouldn't give the box back. I was mind blown! Meanwhile her colleague was listening the whole time and didn't do anything about it. The incompetence at the post office is just insane. Use any other post office. This post office is just terrible. Today I went back again with more packages and she did the same thing. She wouldn't even let me get a word in. Finally I told her look it says it clearly on the label that I can use this box. Worst post office around... Always very slow when I come in, but always packed with people. The African lady that works here, I believe she is the supervisor, is very lazy and rude. Her attitude needs an adjustment, and she needs to start helping her employees when it's getting busy. Instead, she just stands in the middle of the post office, yelling at people to go to the blue door if you're picking up mail. Every single time. I once asked her what her name was, and she would not tell me! So, I told her she should wear a name tag.... She just laughed at me. This place needs to step it up! I had a terrible experience. My package wasn't delivered in time, and I came to that post office to find out what had happened with the parcel. An office manager was rude and completely incompetent. Her answers contradicted one another. She told me that the package was on the way to my home despite of the fact that according to a tracking history, it had been in that post office for more than four days, and still hadn't been delivered. I went there for passport. Door opens at 8:30am on Saturday for the postal service and 9:00am for the passport service. I got there a few minutes before 9 and there a line already. It took us little over one hour to wait and submit the passport application. Staffs are ok but not friendly. They look not happy to be there. By the way, make sure to pay in check. I paid service fee with my credit card and I had to wait by the postal service line again! It was a pain. Make sure to plan ahead! read more

Absolutely the worst USPS office. I wish i can give zero starts. They often don't deliver on Saturdays (tracking says my package is out for delivery but i still don't get it until Monday. They don't deliver on Sundays (Amazon offers 2 day shipping even on Sundays - out for delivery but never delivered. I had to go to post office to pick up. Carrier didn't even left me a pickup slip) Priority mail 2 day package has not been delivered for 28 days and issue has not been resolved as of now. I went to the post office twice to inquire about my package (they said i should wait another week or so, which is ridiculous) Called USPS customer service and opened a case (Never received a call or email) Went to the office again and they said tracking program was down so told me to call back in 3 hours. I just moved to Palatine a few months ago. I send and receive a lot of mail through USPS (I run a small art business and I do most of my shopping online). What a rude awakening. I used to live nearer to the city, and the USPS service was much, much better than the Palatine post. I live in an apartment, but luckily our leasing center accepts residents' mail for pick-up. This has been a godsend...if it weren't for the unbelievably incompetent Palatine USPS. The leasing center closes at 6pm. This is common knowledge and we have the same postal worker who delivers every day. However, she is CONTINUOUSLY attempting deliveries after 6pm. Meaning, I get a notification that a delivery attempt was made, but the business was closed. Then I have to wait 2-3 days before they bother to try and deliver it again. This has happened several times. They are constantly re-routing mail to random sorting centers that make no sense. For example, I'll be sending something about 30 minutes north of Palatine. They'll send it to the Chicago sorting center, then to some city in the south 'burbs, then back to Palatine. Then it'll sit at Palatine for 3 days. How is this efficient?? Recently, they marked a package of mine as "delivered" but I never received it. This was a very small envelope package, so I just had it delivered right to my mailbox instead of the leasing center. I thought that perhaps it'd been delivered to the wrong address. I called the Palatine USPS but could not get through to a person. The line just rang and rang. So I filed a missing package report online. No response. 10 days after they marked the missing package as "delivered," it showed up in my mailbox. No note, nothing. It was just there. Then, two weeks later I received an automated email from USPS saying my lost package could not be located. ??? Just today, I received a notification that an Amazon package was delayed (I would say 7 times out of 10 I get package delays when USPS delivers). It was marked "out for delivery" on Saturday but it never arrived. Now tracking status says "delivery status not updated" and it's just sitting there. This is ridiculous. It seems like everyone is dealing with the same thing with this post office. We have days at our office where mail just isn't delivered and most days we have outgoing mail we have to beg them to take it. Big sign outside the door that says OUTGOING MAIL and they walk right past it. All of my neighbors have experienced this. At least 3-4 carriers have all done the same thing so I'm blaming management. My residential carrier lady is amazing, so I'm guessing she ignores anything management has to say because she's smarter than them. Side note: My mom worked for USPS for 30+ years and retired because she couldn't handle their incompetence. Top 5 regional office dropped to dead last in productivity because they replaced her head manager with a shoe salesman. He knew nothing about the mail service and destroyed their reputation. So the USPS incompetence goes higher than local management but Palatine is by far the worst I've dealt with. I've mailed bubble mailers/padded envelopes the same way for 3 years (over thousands mailed) and never an issue outside of one location. Now I'm consistently getting them returned for not enough postage. They say they all need the same amount of postage added, yet there are three different prices on there. One mailer had double the initial postage yet it was returned for the second time. We've had mortgage payments vanish like a fart in the wind after dropping them off in person. I think I'm going to hand deliver my mail across the country since it seems to be the only way to trust it gets there. read more

Literally the worst post office I've ever had experience dealing with. They lost my package and told me it just dissapeared. Then one day they attempted to deliver it but left a notice cuz I didnt open the door on time which is fine. Well about a week later the mail lady brings me up a package and tells me she tried to deliver my missing package but I wasn't home so she left the package at my door. I told her no I was home and I opened the door the minute she left and there was no package only a notice. We argued about this for awhile. She tried telling me someone must have taken it. And she said she's never bringing packages to my door again. I called the post office right after this happened and they said they had my package there which proves she was lying. The only thing the guy said was you dont need to be blaming us and it's my fault for not opening the door on time. Pathetic. The same day I went down and checked my mail box and someone else's package was in mine! I just took it to them myself because obviously that lady doesnt know how to do her job. Also the only time I went into the post office the Asian girl up front threw someone's box that had fragile stickers all over and then said "oops didnt see the stickers". One star is being generous. I went in today (July 5, 2017 at 12:10pm) to send a letter certified mail, having never done so before. I filled out the form and marked in the "extra postage" boxes that I wanted an adult signature and return receipt. After she processed my request, the charge seemed low, so I told her I had marked "Return Receipt", to which she so rudely responded, "You should have told me that." I said I'd marked it and she said they don't look at that, to which I said, "You're kidding. Then why do they ask that we mark it if you don't look at it?" And I'm serious when I say she rolled her eyes and again said it was my fault because I didn't tell her. Didn't have time to argue. She gave me a new form without explaining. I filled it out and mistakenly signed it where the recipient is to sign. I caught it. I mentioned it and you would have thought I'd asked her to run to Starbucks to get me coffee. Her reaction was beyond rude. It was insulting. After all was fixed, I gave her a stack of stamped letters to mail, to which her response was, "You could have put them in the box yourself." I have never experienced a more rude, insulting and unfriendly employee of the US Postal Service than Sue in Palatine. And to think that I am paying her salary. This is absolutely unacceptable, and why the atmosphere hasn't changed says to me it starts at the Postmaster General of Palatine. I'm sending a complaint letter with this exact information not only to the Palatine Postmaster but to the Postmaster General in Chicago. No one should be treated like this. read more

Usually, I am used to waiting forever in this post office. Lines are long and somehow only 1 human working, slower than molasses. I was picking up my mail from vacation rang the doorbell as stated & waited at least a minute. Nothing, no movement behind the door nothing, So I rang it again, maybe they didn't hear the first ring, no probs right? Then the window opens & the lady begins to berate me about having me wait for her to open the window. She proceeds to sate that she was right there, pointing about 10 feet away from the door & that it takes time to get from one spot to the window. She states that I need to wait & why am I ringing the bell too many times? I rang the bell twice. Then she asks me what I want? I told her I'm picking up my vacation mail, she begrudgingly takes my I'd & off she goes to get it. She's back in 1 minute. Wow, I was taken aback on how rude she was speaking to me, I am a customer & this is her job. I guess I inconvenienced her by interrupting her & making her walk 10 feet. How was I suppose to see behind a closed door where she was standing? Not sure if she thought Superman was coming to pick up his mail & could see thru the door! Then people wonder why the USPS is a dying business? There customers service, service with a frown, total attitude that we are lucky to be in there presence is why everyone is going paperless.
