I've had issues with this place before, rude employees. losing packages IN the office and lying. Last time I had a package coming from MN, I went in and asked where the package was and was told that the driver tried to deliver but since I wasn't there (not true) it was sent back to where it came from, Bell California. How does a package coming from the midwest end up in Bell?! Once again I'm forced to recieve a package through USPS. So I wait at home, listening for the doorbell. just now I go out to check the mail and what do I see? a PACKAGE SLIP. as in the dipshit didn't even bother to ring the bell to see if anyone was home before writing out the slip. So I call to see if maybe, while he is out pretending to deliver other people's mail he could swing by and GIVE ME THE PACKAGE. but no I have to come in to the Post Office from Hell tomorrow and stand in an hour long line to deal with the angry employees who really don't want to be there just to get a package that was *not* delivered today. This is simply one of the worst post offices I've ever encountered. There's always a ridiculous line, staff are rude, and most of all, not helpful. For 6 years I've lived in the same place in the Inner Richmond. For the first five of those years, I didn't have a problem getting packages delivered to my door. All of a sudden, the post office changed policies and they refused to leave anything on my porch, which necessitates that I visit this post office. This is extremely inconvenient given my schedule and I only ship things to my house when I know I will be there to receive them, so to come home, expecting a package and not find it is extremely irritating. So, I took an hour on a Saturday morning to straighten this out. Yes, an hour, make certain to bring coins for the nearby meters. After the first visit, I thought this was straightened out, name & address were taken and promises were made to deliver future packages. Fast forward two more visits in which I was told that my requests to have packages left had gone through *this time* when II was finally told that I needed to call the central post office. a VERY long story short: I bought a PO Box here, paid for a full year and when I came to check my mail they had changed the lock and told me (rudely) that they have no record of my account and that I must have made a mistake. I opened this PO Box for a business and we printed thousands of units of packaging with this PO Box, so I told them that that was not acceptable. The manager (I'm assuming) nearly yelled at me and asked me for proof of my purchase. Of course I didn't have any on me, except the key because I was just checking my mail! After I de-stressed, I came back with all of my receipts and they still have no explanation as to what happened, just that someone really messed up. The manager told me that she would try to get my box back and would call me in a few days to give me an update. No call. I called them 2 weeks later and there is still no update! DO NOT BUY PO BOXES HERE if you are a business and can't afford a huge screw-up like this. They have admitted that it was their fault, but have offered no incentives as an apology. The counter staff at this location is very friendly and provides great service. My complaint is in full, due to the mail delivery service which is serviced out of this location. I order a ton of stuff from amazon and other online sites. I would say literally 75% of my packages in recent months get undelivered. Of that percentage, 50% disappear and the other 50% require me to pickup at this location. ALL of these packages are being delivered to a business address which is open 24hours and staffed 24hours. So how is it possible to attempt a delivery and. It be successful??? "Undeliverable - Incorrect Address San Francisco, CA, US" That's what's USPS shows, though FedEx and UPS seem to have no issue. read more

They actually had a worker going to each person in line to help prepare us before we got to the counter. I've seen this before where they deal with all the package pickup people at one time, but in this case the guy was actually helping each person decide what type of delivery service to use, etc. As for counter service, I was sending certified mail and left my mail receipt at the counter. I came back about 4 hours later and the clerk was able to recover the receipt for me, which was a great relief! I didn't get any attitude during the whole process either. read more

I am not happy with this post office. I got a form that said my package would be there Saturday after 11am. I got there at about 2. She searched for my package and couldn't find it. Apparently the post man had it on the truck and may have tried to redeliver it. Why would he do that?? That goes against what they promised on the form. So, couldn't pick it up today, Sunday, and am too busy after work Monday to Wednesday to get it. Lame. 2 stars. Boo. Ok positives: parking isn't that bad on the street and the women who worked there was pleasant. I couldn't be pissed at her because it wasn't her fault. End of rant. UPDATE: Went back and the deliver driver gave me the slip to the wrong post office, went to the other one near Fillmore and Geary and got it right away. Staff with no sense of urgency, they walk around like an old lady taking a stroll in the park! Came in today with pre printed USPS Flat Rate box label thinking it will be a breeze, slap the label on the flat rate box and I am good to go... Yeah right, apparently the post office is out of their own flat rate boxes! Asked the clerk can he check in the back, he said "what you see is what we have". I insisted he go look, he did very slowly... Nope we're all out and you could drive to a different post office office if you want... REALLY!? Get it together! Placed a mail forward online for this office, paying the $1 fee. It didn't work. Placed a mail hold online for this office (I think there was a fee too). It didn't work. Called them. It didn't work. After 45 minutes waiting on the line, and being transferred from agent to agent, they said their computer system was down. I waited some more and they hung up on me. While the employees who handle the front area seem nice enough, this office, overall, is highly incompetent. In the past two months I have 1) put my mail on hold and it was never held and 2) forwarded and it was never forwarded. The excuse: 1) the system was down and they didn't get the notice and 2) the mail carrier didn't get the notice. On occasion 1) all my mail in a 3 week period was returned to sender (gad knows where that mail is now) and 2) when I went to get my mail at my old address, there was nothing there. It's incredibly frustrating to say the least. I am glad that I receive most notices via email and really wish there was an alternative to the USPS for regular mail. 1/4/2012 Update: This has got to be the absolute worst USPS office in San Francisco - so bad that I am willing to go 30 minutes out of my way to mail a package. My last bad experience was when my Mom tried to send me a package in mid-November, insured, (with items that can't be replaced). Here we go! 1) I didn't receive the slip saying I received the package 2) Went down to the post office and asked about it - they couldn't find and told me they would call me in a couple of days 3) They didn't call me 4) Their phone number has been disconnected 5) The supervisor of the office can't be reached - no one answers the phone 6) I am really stressed and starting to truly understand what it means to go postal 7) I wonder how these people have jobs!! Somethings in life are necessary evils... dentists, parking meter maids, and until recently... the actual post offices. My normal experience is needing to ship a package (that I already wrapped) to an address (that I already bothered to write on the package) using money (that is native to the country). At these places called 'post-offices' I was a walking endangered species. I usually find Russian bread lines, with people sending stuff they don't own, to addresses they don't know with money they don't have. Thus a 3 min transaction becomes a 30 minute drama-tragedy. Drama for the people involved and tragic for everyone behind them. Whether today, like Ice Cube said was a good day... or if this place is the shining star and model office - who knows, but this is what went down... Them: "Hi, how can I help you" (in actual happy to see me even voice) Me: "I'm here to pick up a package" (underwear of all things from freshpair.com) Them: "Can I see some ID.... I'll be right back" Package arrived on desk in 45 seconds Them: "Need any stamps" (nice upsell -- remember they aren't spiffed) Me: "no thank you, can you tell me why I had to come in for this?" Them: "Oh It might have been a new carrier on a new route, so they went by the book... sorry for the inconvenience" Me: "no problem, thanks for the information, bye" I walked out with my package, my sanity and a smile. If every USPO was this well run, they would change the "I'm going postal" saying to "I'm going Safeway" or something more appropriate. This branch of the post office carried tax forms which other locations never did, making them even more busier than usual during tax season. With all this foot traffic, people double parking and people illegally parking, there still isn't enough staff to help when needed. read more

This place actually takes steps to speed things up and run more efficiently. This is something I have never seen in a post office before in my life. Here, they pull people with just pick-up slips out of line to handle first, and they also have a worker go through the requests for the rest of the line to begin processing before you even get to the window -- unheard of! Our checks, gifts and statements have been disappearing since November. Our mailboxes in the building have locks, only delivery and the addressed have the access. This week, even certified mails were delivered seal broken and open! The postmaster has not taken any action to the concerns we filed. Anyone has same concerns? Staff are nice when they are dealing with you one-on-one at their wicket. There are four wickets. I've only ever seen two open, with the third for passports/mail pick-ups. I usually come between 1.30 and 3. When there are two dozen in line hurry the eff up. Open all the wickets. Have enough supplies in the waiting area so people don't have to wait to get free boxes. The street parking is terrible at a quarter for eight minutes. I just needed to get a box and I paid for $0.75 to wait for 24 minutes. But this is the closest one to me, and of course parking and queue sucks. I really ought to drive to the burbs to use the post office. Ridiculous. You should know how much traffic you get at this station. Get more staff. Offer stamp vending machines. Anything. That's why people go postal. read more

This post office gets the job done. There are usually 2 - 3 people working the counter which is nice and helps get the line out the door. The people who work there are pretty efficient and it's relatively large compared to most city post offices. It's in a really convienant location and there is generally parking right out front if you drive. What is there to complain about? Get in. Get out. Go on with your life. read more

I love pretty stamps (something inherited from Mom) and this post office always has a great selection. When I ask for one, they always bring out a few so I can see all the little works of art to select from... not asked for, but they go above n beyond in that way. Add in this location has automated machines to mail packages from for those days I don't have the time/patience to wait in line, I will miss this location when I move. read more

This post office is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes, the line goes out the door and the wait feels like forever. On other days, I'm the only one in there. I have to say that this post office probably isn't as busy as the others in the area. Street parking is always available although it is metered. read more

It's hard to rate post offices because of the long lines and the slow service. I'm not surprised that USPS is now dealing with reorganization to stay afloat. First of all, this post office is convenient. There's some parking that usually is available. If you send something by using their convenient machine that will weigh and print the postage, you don't even need to pay the meter since you'll be in and out within 5 minutes (not that I advocate that, I only heard from someone else...yeah). Now if you wait in line, bring a book, your iPhone or your patience because goodness, it takes forever. What are they doing in the back? Having a pow-wow? The only place where I've experienced an efficient post office was in Arcadia down in Los Angeles. Everyone in the back were Chinese ladies who were hard working and no nonsense. Get some of those people to the post offices and we'll fix the system! read more

I dropped off a standard priority mail package that I pre-paid online in hopes to skip the line--this was around 9:00am. (I placed it exactly where a person behind the counter told me to put it.) Throughout the day, I checked the tracking number online to see if they had scanned it to verify that it had been accepted. There was no update, so I called the office to see what had happened to it, scared that it had been lost. No one picked up the phone the entire day. Unfortunately, USPS tries to encourage online ordering, but more time is wasted from their customer service reps trying to explain where my package has been. My package was not "accepted" until 6:00pm that day, and therefore did not leave until the next day. I think if I had stood in line, it would have been accepted earlier, and perhaps would have arrived at the destination earlier. read more

They would not let me ship a package because they did not want to tape the label on it. I had a pre paid shipping label and already had the packaging. They told me to buy tape or bring my own. I have been to at least five other locations that taped my labels for me or used a plastic sleeve and pasted it on the package. The woman at the counter was condescending and plain rude. Yes I've been here when there are long lines and not all the windows are open which is very frustrating. But I feel like the employees are hard workers and do care and do really want to help the customers. Today I waited while a customer wanted to talk and talk to the PO employee. Luckily I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't mind wait a bit longer for my turn as it was clear that this person just needed to person-to-person interaction. The PO employee was courteous with her but also tried to end the conversation in polite way to help the next person on line - me. As a long time resident of the neighborhood, I've been to this post office many times. Overall, my experiences have been very positive. read more

This is my home post office so I have to come here pretty frequently to pick up packages. The folks who work here have always been courteous, informative, and helpful. The lines can be long during peak hours but I've never had to wait an unreasonably long time. When someone comes to pick up a package, the worker always asks if anyone else is picking up, and retrieves all of our packages together. This is a really friendly thing to do and saves everybody a lot of time! Minus one star for the appearance of the place, which is not just industrial but also clearly unkempt. Dusty, unmaintained window displays, posters falling off the walls.... it must be a really depressing environment for the people who work there. read more

What is more annoying than spending 20 minutes trying to find the listing for this on Yelp? (apparently it is not under US POST OFFICE even searching in 94118 or inner richmond). What is more annoying than that is a visit to this place. Trying to avoid the line and make their jobs easier I wanted to buy stamps from the machine... only the automated one (which sells the international stamps I wanted) could sell no more than five stamps per credit card transaction... and I wasn't going to do twelve credit card transactions. Sorry to say. I waited in line to find out that they were out of stamps. Yes. I arrived on the busiest mailing day of the year, but WHEN THEY OPENED (I even waited in line to get in) and they did not have stamps for this day??!! They decided to give me two stamps instead (to add up to what I wanted... except...).... They had no lesser denominations, so the stamps they were selling to me were more than what I wanted. I asked if they were honestly going to charge me more than what I wanted and they said yes. I wondered allowed why they couldn't just put my mail in a machine that would electronically stamp my mail with the correct amount (like the pitneybowes machines at offices) and they were like 'Hey! Its Christmas. We're out of stamps," to which I threw my hands up and plead, "Its THE POST OFFICE! Stamps are kind of your thing!" The postal worker made me feel really crappy by giving me a quarter from his pocket in a big display to the other customers. PS: NEITHER of the people at the counter knew how to work the machine I previously mentioned. Everyone in this place seemed to hate their job and almost as much as everyone in line hated the counter staff members' attitudes. read more

I really wanted to like this post office...I really did. I never minded going to my old one, so when I had to make a trip to this one...no biggie. It looks older and a little rougher around the edges...but that's not really a problem. As long as my mail gets from point A to B it can look however it wants. Recently I started confronting my fear of the world of shipping by selling some stuff online. I'm not a real expert on shipping...I know it goes by weight and distance...and priority is 2 days and flat rate boxes are amazing. Day one I sent 5 packages...4 standard (cd's and a book...most shipped for $1.80 and under) and one flat rate book... ($4.95) Day 2: a book standard and a cd standard...I dont know if they are jacking up the prices or what but the $1.80 book I sent the day before was only a little lighter than the one on day two...but it was going to cost me over $8 to ship! In one day's difference! The cd was also over 70 cents more expensive in one day than the cds from the day before. If I would have known I would have flat rated it for under $5, but I wasn't going to get back in the line and wait another half an hour. Stupid Mail. read more

This post office has been nothing but a headache. When I first opened a PO Box here, they somehow didn't put my name on the box and I lost several shipments of contact lenses, not to mention all my mail. The staff is singularly unhelpful and the stamp machines always eat your money. If you can avoid transactions here, I recommend doing so. read more

Unfortunately, none of the post offices in the area get good reviews. This place is staffed by people who are not trained at their jobs or just blatantly don't care. Having been turned away on a recent saturday by my home post office (they couldn't open because they had lost the key to the gate) I went to this post office. After waiting in line nearly 20 minutes (I was the second person in line?!?), the woman who helped me over-charged me for every single package I mailed. I frequently mail the same package, so I know it's weight and cost are the same each time. $2.62 (or maybe it's $2.63), I was charged over $3 on this particular day at this particular station. I mentioned it to the employee, she didn't care to correct her mistake at all. I mentioned it a second time and she didn't even acknowledge it. I have one day a week I can go to the post office, Saturday is my only day off work when the post office is open. I couldn't wait another week and I couldn't go to a third post office in the same day. I had no choice but to pay the fees and enjoy being gouged. Don't waste your time and effort. Drive or Ride bike a little more to go to another one; maybe on Irving(between 9th and 10th). They always angry with something and amazingly slow. The female worker Grace need to learn how to respect her customer! I was there just now to drop off 2 stamped mails at the counter. I wanted to ask her a simple question when she noticed the stamped evelops, then she started question me "Why you have these?...." I let her stampled the the mails as she wanted! The worst place ever. I'd rather go to the DMV. I went there 4 times just to get a p.o box assigned to me, which i already paid for online, so all they had to do was giving me a box. First two time the appropriate person wasnt there, and mind u, this is around 2 pm and 930 am when they told me to come, at what hour do u get to work and leave? geez it's like a vacation house there. Last two times it took them forever to assign me one and i had to wait around for them to "clean" the tiny box for an hour the 4th time. and they ended up giving me a different one because what i was supposed to get wasn't "available". Then a few days later, got a call from them saying that they coudn't let me have that box because a different box was assigned to me. so now i have to go back there, for the 5th time, bring back the key that they gave me and get a different box. and, of course, call the places that i called to change my address to change it again. imagine how furious i was. ....correction....i went there for the 5th time today. and the supervisor is, once again, not there.
