Also was expecting a certified document that when delivered, instead of knocking on my door for delivery, she bent it by shoving into my mail slot in my door. This post office offers good customer service and has friendly clerks. I come here quite often as it is the closest post office to where I live. Beware though that this post office gets quite busy during weekends and weekday closing hours. Additionally, parking can be confusing as there is limited parking on the front, but if you drive inside a bit more you will find a much larger parking lot in the back. Overall, this post office is convenient for West San Jose dwellers and has good service. read more

Horrible delivery service from this post office. My package tracking says delivered to my address but I was at home all day that day but it wasn't delivered. I went to post office and complained, they said they will check with carrier and call me but they never called back. I talked to the postman about the missing package 3 days back, he said he will talk to manager and call me back, no one called. Today my neighbor told me that he is getting lot of my mails recently. I am not sure how many other people around here have problems with their mail being delivered to wrong address...this is very bad. If there is negative star to rate this PO place in Payne, that is what they truly deserve. - I have one small domestic package received IN ONE MONTH from a 3 day delivery. - A normal local letter received in ONE WEEK when it should be next day from SJ downtown in 12 minutes driving distance. - A 3 inches legal document in my PO Box took almost THREE MONTHS to put into my PO Box after received in 3 days after sender sent from downtown SJ. - That wicked, ignorant, ruthless Bob should be fired as most customers said. He was more than a jerk of the planet, a lousy worker: not willing to work and intentionally screw customers up or waste their time. NO ONE or COMPANIES should hire him. - I shipped a small $180 package overseas that should be arrived in 12 days, it is 3 weeks now and the package still has not arrived. I have suspicion that they did not deliver or stole the package. Rose as manager never bother to call me back, Tracy implied that I did not spent "more $$" so its always "others' fault". Andrew could not remember 10 second words you told him and had no intent to investigate their LOUSY OPERATION. - They collude and cover each other up. I am just fed up with those scum bags who had no ACCOUNTABILITY. I would not give your $$ to support their corruption and business practice. I haven't received any mail for the past two weeks. This location is my mail carrier and every time I call to speak to one of the employees nobody answers the phone. Yesterday, I went to their office to ask about my lost mail and one of the workers was VERY RUDE to me. I believe his name starts with a "B" . He refused to help me or take down my information to solve the problem. I left and came back to speak to another employee who was very helpful. Her name was Sabrina and she told me to call the office before 8:30am. However, I am unable to get in contact with my carrier because nobody is picking up the phone. When I need to mail stuff, I use one of three post offices: two near my home and one near my office. This one on Payne, I'd say is the worst one among them. They do get the job done most of the time, but their service is absolutely horrible. I often print prepaid postage labels online. When I drop off the packages at this post office, I go inside the building and place it inside the mail slot so I know some postal worker from this specific office will handle the package. Unfortunately on several occasions, when I drop it off here, the package will not get scanned until it's reached the sort facility close to the destination. If I drop it off at the Campbell post office on Hamilton, or the one near my office, it'll get scanned right at that post office before it gets to the San Jose main sort facility. So for at least two days you have no idea whether your package has even left that post office. Meanwhile the tracking number is useless for my recipient until it gets scanned. Another time I went there to ship a package to Canada using priority mail. My prior experience tells me that Priority packages, other than the "small box" and envelopes, are tracked after reaching Canada. I went to this post office with my package, and before shipping it out, I wanted to confirm whether that's true. The lady behind the counter keeps insisting that it's not tracked. I said that's not what happened before. Instead of doing some research, she started being rude and kept repeating that it's not tracked unless it's Express Mail. Since this was a fairly expensive package, I decided to take it to the Campbell post office where another lady carefully explained that it might be tracked depending on the destination. That was a much more knowledgeable answer. This lady also suggested repackaging my item in a by-weight priority mail box instead of using a flat rate box. This saved me like 4 bucks. Great service!! I also went online and verified on USPS.com that international priority mail packages other than the small packages do get tracking. In the end the package was tracked all the way to the final destination in Canada. It seems like these workers over at Payne have even less knowledge than their customers about international shipping. Just today I went to this PO again to get a prepaid package scanned for acceptance. This is a pretty standard thing which registers the tracking number as having been accepted by the PO so the recipient knows it's now out of the shipper's hands. The Campbell post office always does this for me happily. Here, the guy was like "I don't have the equipment to scan it". What?? Then what's this scanner thing right next to you? Since there were a bunch of people behind me, I didn't want to hold up anyone else so I handed it to the guy and left. My packages do end up reaching the recipient for sure. But that's more due to the work of the postal system after departing this post office. In terms of the service you receive here, it's worse than what you can get elsewhere. read more

The postal service put a package that stated "Fragile, DO NOT BEND" and put the over size package into a delivery box that was too small. Instead of leaving a note to pick up at the post office, it was jammed in to the box and got bent. read more

I went to this post office early last Saturday to mail my Save the Date postcards for my upcoming wedding. I asked for the cards to be "hand cancelled" - basically hand stamping the postage so it cannot be used again, instead of sending it through a machine, which gets ink all over the card and postage. All post offices can hand cancel and have the ability to, but its a crapshoot figuring out which ones actually will or say no due to their own laziness. After calling the post office to confirm that they could do it, I was told by the initial attendant that they didn't do it at all anymore. I offered to do it myself, pay money for them to do it and still, it wasn't a possible thing for them to do. I asked for the supervisor, who also told me that they couldn't hand stamp, but guaranteed that sending it through the machine would make only a small mark on the postage. The cards were late as it was and needed to go out, so I didn't feel like I had a choice in the matter. I had a friend send me a pic of what it looked like when she received via mail. What do I see? Black marks and ink all across the top of the postcard, just like she guaranteed it wouldn't. They look absolutely awful. After spending $ having these cards custom printed and trying to create a polished look for an important event, its unacceptable that they showed up this way. Its no wonder that USPS is going bankrupt. Providing good customer service is what keeps businesses open and customers coming back. Maybe that's where the true problem lies? read more

No wonder USPS is going broke. People do not want to work. Our area is serviced by the USPS office on Payne. From time to time, we ship small packages using online label service and USPS carrier pickup. Yesterday we requested 2 small packages (~5lbs) to be picked up today. In early afternoon, we saw mail delivered to our mailbox already, but the 2 packages were not touched. We looked around and saw the USPS truck a couple of blocks away, so we carried the packages to the truck. The mail lady refused to accept them, and said they would be picked up later by others. Of course, nobody ever showed up after that. We understand sometimes the mail person did not see the packages, but it is inexcusable to refuse the packages when we carried them to their truck. read more

If you missed a package delivery in this neighborhood, be prepared for lots of wasted time and empty promises by supervisors at this branch. I was not home and missed a delivery, so I went online to http://usps.com/redelivery and submitted a form indicating 'Customer Pickup' the next day per the instructions on the slip. When I stopped by the next day, the supervisor, Dan, said the package was back out for redelivery. *Sigh* He asked for my name, changed the notes to customer pick up next day, and told me to come by and pick up the package the next morning. I came by the next morning at 9:00am and the package was again out for redelivery. *Double Sigh* This time the employee's name was Chuck. The service quality and commitment to service at this particular USPS branch is one of pure incompetence and inefficiency. A (seemingly intentional) waste of the customer's time. I'm very reluctant to write bad reviews but after so many times of witnessing the mistreatment of customers I felt the need to share my experience. After recently starting an online business I've been visiting the post office almost every day for the last year. 90% of my trips the employees rain on my parade. No matter how kind and friendly I am or others are, the employees at the Saratoga location and Cupertino location are extremely rude and down right mean people. I don't know who they think they are or what right they think they have to act this way but it's absolutely obnoxious, unnecessary behavior and they continue to get away with on a daily basis. Today in particular I watched an employee named Balwinder "help" a customer mailing a letter. The customer put two $1 bills on the counter while he was getting out more change, Balwinder said "put the money in my hand" My ears perked up and I watched him as his hand was reached out 6" from the money on the counter and again he repeated to the customer "put the money in my hand" I was shocked and my jaw dropped that someone would talk to people in such a rude and demeaning manner. Based on other reviews I've read this is sadly common behavior. Once again I left the post office in disbelief. Treat others as you wish to be treated please and have a great day. read more

Terrible service. I had an extremely expensive package and was told to leave it on a counter. I was told by a man working there to photograph my package for the tracking number label. As I was doing so a female employee rudely interrupted and said this was a government building and that I was not allowed to take photos. I told her I was instructed to do so to which she said fine go ahead. She was clearly not happy about not having the last say and made an unnecessary remark about how my return label was not taped correctly and peeled it off to show me... She then went on to her customer about how she was so mad when she saw a man sneak a photo under a woman's dress... And she complained about how nowadays people post photos on yelp... As if that somehow was relevant to this issue... As I was leaving she said something else about me to her customer... I am overall appalled by the lack of professionalism at this particular USPS. read more

The mail forwarding service at the Payne Post Office is terrible. Even if you complete the necessary documentation for this service it takes 15 days for the mail to get forwarded and sometimes it is at the discretion of the postal carrier on your route what he/she will do with your mail. The postal carrier on my route decided to send all our mail back to the sender because he saw our house was under construction, not bothering to check that we had requested mail forwarding service. Other than a few workers people are not very helpful at this office. It is unfortunate we cannot do anything about this and have to put up with this bad service. read more

These guys do not take any responsibilities. All of locks of our mail box in the apartments that I live in are broken and the land lord says that it is the post office's job to come fix it. It's has been a month since this happened and the apartment manager has made appointments for about 5 times. I am not sure if anyone there knows what they are doing. A very important item (passport) was sent Priority and certified on a Fri from Placerville still hadn't arrived by Tue. The mail on Tue wasn't delivered until 6:30 PM. Went into the PO Wed 8:15 AM and they had it in a box with no explanation why it hadn't been delivered and we hadn't been notified. Maybe they need a new Post Master or a whole crew. I live 2 blocks from this PO and go out of my way to go to the Campbell facility where they are fast, courteous and I have never had a problem. read more

I have read some of the reviews left and, use this Post Office at least once if not more times a week and here's what I see a lot of, people going up to the counter with a package half way ready to be mailed, meaning it can't be mailed the way it was brought in, therefore the clerk must give him the necessary things to help him get it mailed, , people come in with their article they wish to mail in a bag, not even close to being in a box, then people who do not have the correct form they need, or no form at all. All I'm hearing is how slow they are, did anyone ever think " why they are slow" I just gave you a few good reasons why. You are so quick to blame these people, when obviously it's the other way around. Things would move a lot quicker if the people were prepared. These people, the staff, might not shoot the bull with you and might not greet you with a big hello, but they do smile and they do their best to get you in and out. Also, there is parking available on the street in front of the Post Office, a big yellow line indicates you can park there, maybe you missed that? They can only go as fast as the people allow them too, really should take a look at ourselves before we put the blame on someone who's undeserving of your unkind reviews...think about it and the next time your in, look around and see where the problem lies. read more

Absolutely THE WORST post office ever! They sent important documents sent to me back to my financial institution "Return to sender: Not Deliverable As Addressed" Gee, I've only lived at this address since 1964, had no idea I moved from San Jose! Where did I go? Hawaii is nice. News to me. The address was MINE on the envelope. It was perfect, so was the postage. Somebody at the Payne post office apparently did not want me to get this piece of mail. I would go down there and complain but I know it won't do a Damn bit of good. My normal postman, Patrick, is the ONLY thing good about this post office. I know when he is out because I get my mail delived after 6pm (if at all), I don't receive my packages or any weekly flyers. The incompatency at this post office is Rampant. A bunch of complete idiots. Guess I better use FED Ex from now on, certainly can't trust USPS Payne office even if i pay for certified letters. read more

I recently posted a negative review because I thought that my husband was being discrimated against because of his race. I called the Post office and talked to a manager concerning my issue with how one of their Postal workers told my husband to pay for tape, while she handed tape over to another worker who was the same race and who had a customer who was the same race right in front of my husband. I didn't realize that the tape that she was handing over for FREE use was for "Priority" mail and that when a person pays for Priority mail, they can use the "Priority tape" for free. My husbands package that he was mailing was not Priority mail and so that is why he had to pay for the tape. If the woman would have let my husband know this, he wouldn't have felt discriminated against. (He asked her 2-3 times and she should have recognized that he didn't understand why he had to pay when others were using the other tape freely). Overall experience with this post office is good. The manager was very patient and apologized that the postal worker didn't explain. I wanted to delete my negative post that I posted on the 12/16/13 but couldn't figure out how to delete it. read more
