The employee by the name of BoB needs to be fired. While waiting in line he was being so rude towards this elderly lady who was asking him not to degraded her knowledge and he kept laughing at her. She called for a manager and there was none on duty. I felt really bad When it was my turn I was lucky enough to have BoB "help me" Anyways I asked one question where he was so rude towards me. Before I paid I was taking a picture of my package as I do because I sell on eBay and need proof that I packaged the item secure. He grabbed my box put it in the back said no pictures. I laughed and as I thought he was kidding. But he wasn't kidding he then printed a receipt and said $13.60. I said I need to take a picture he said it's in HIS possession now and I can't. I was so shocked. He really ruined my day and disrespected the elder lady and me. As I was waking out he laughed and said next. A man at this post office just made me cry. What happened: This is my regular post office. I came in to return two amazon packages. I had them in envelopes and needed to tape on the labels. In the past, I have gone to this post office for similar reasons and asked if there was any tape I could use and they have given me some or there is some out by the drop-off desk that I use. Today there were three things of tape sitting next to the drop-off area. One clear, two USPS of different colors. I pick up the clear one and start to tape my label on. When I go to do the second package, an employee standing behind the desk says, "You need to pay for that." I say, "Oh, I didn't realize. I thought we could use this tape." He says, "No, it costs $3.50, see?" And points to the label on the clear tape. I say, "Oh I'm sorry, it was just lying there so I didn't realize it was for sale." He motions to an otherwise empty display on the back of the counter to where the tape ostensibly had been originally. I say, "Oh. Well am I allowed to use this tape?" The USPS tape. He says no, that's 25 cents or something. I try to explain that last time I was here a lady let me use that tape and he interrupts me saying, "Well maybe they were being nice, but they shouldn't of...You have to pay for it." Obviously he didn't want to be "nice" at all and didn't like that they had been. That would be all well and good, but I didn't bring my wallet with me. I had not anticipated using it. I tell him, "I'm sorry but I didn't bring my wallet." He then looks at me with exasperated anger like I'm the worst person ever to walk into this USPS and I say, "Well I'll just take back the package I haven't taped yet and come back when I can get the tape." And he says, "No." And takes my package and label, "Go get your wallet and come back." At this point he has made me feel awful but I don't live far, so I just say, "Okay" and leave. I drive away and am terribly embarrassed and upset and don't want to go back to deal with him again, but I need to mail this, so I do. I walk back in, its close to closing, and the man isn't at the counter anymore. Another man asks to help me and he finds my package and the tape and starts to ring me up. The original man comes out and I avoid looking at him. The cashier guy is having trouble ringing up my tape, so he asks me to grab a new one from a rack and bring it up. I do, and as I do, the original man yells, "No!" My cashier rings it up and puts it down and looks at him, "What?" By then he realized what the cashier was going so he didn't say anything else. I get my tape, leave, and immediately burst into tears. This was all over $3.50 of tape. He couldn't be understanding that I didn't realize the system (I'm 23 and not an expert at the post office I'm sorry), he couldn't just let me come back, he treated me like a thief, and then he actually thought I was trying to cheat my way into a NEW thing of tape to get back the 6 inches I had use from the first one. .... I wish I had looked at this guy's name when I was there. Both he and the nicer cashier guy were Asian so that doesn't help much. He was a bit older though, I would guess. The worst US post office I have ever seen in my life. Horrible but horrible customer service (except the Indian guy, who at least try to do his job). The Asian man and woman working there early in the mornings yell at the customers, I felt so intimidated by them and they have the power to deny giving me the letters I am anxiously expecting (recently relocated here and with the change of address some important mail got lost, besides the landlord requested my roomates and I to get a new key for the mailbox, another drag). Just asking a simple question looks like begging these guys. Long lines in the morning, everybody looking depressing there. No wonder, maybe they are depressed as the working place looks very old fashioned, and not very mood enhancing. As soon as I get my key issue sorted out I will totally avoid this office. There is a reason why this USPS is on Payne Avenue because it's a Payne in the ass! The there is almost a line in this office almost all hours of the day. Damn, pick up window closes at 11am? So, I have to wait in this ridiculous line just to pick up a package? Whack! Fortunately, a worker was nice enough to open up a window for pick-ups only. Yay. read more

Except for an older guy who has been there for over ten years,The staff is friendly but often difficult to find parking and occasional long lines and I do mean often.I had a P.O. Box here for 12 years and it was convenient and cheap,not sure about the pricing now.At Christmas you will need to park half a block away across the street.Place is small and they will run out of supplies.It's no median avenue post office believe me but if your over by Saratoga it's functional enough. read more

This really is the worst post office. Ever! I moved to San Jose in February and needed to order a key to my new mailbox. I went to the this Post Office, since its the closest to my address, and was told it would take 4-6 weeks to receive my key. I went back after 6 weeks and they could not find it. They asked that I come back in 2 weeks. I went back in two weeks. Guess what? No key. I still don't have a key even though I have been back there several times to inquire about my missing key. I have been calling the office all week to ask about the key, before I drive over there. Either no one answers the phone or it has a busy tone for hours on end. No wonder no one uses the post office anymore! read more

These people are UNBELIEVABLE! I mailed a PERISHABLE package to a friend at a business address. It said it was out for delivery on a Wednesday. At 4:10 pm the carrier logged the business as closed and the package to be delivered the next day. The business was open. The person receiving the package was on the premises. Why wasn't the package delivered? I called the post office, talked to the supervisor, Son, who said he'd talk to the carrier and call me back by 10 am Thursday. He never called. I called him. He said to give him more time. He never called. When I called, again, in the afternoon, he got someone to say he was not there. Then the woman too my number and said she'd call. We'll see, but I doubt it. Meanwhile, the package was left Thursday morning at a delivery box that has a key. Why wasn't it taken to the business, especially since it wasn't delivered to begin with on Wednesday? NO ACCOUNTABILITY! I am reporting the post office to the USPS Consumer affairs!! Excellent service here today. Haven't used a post office in California before. With most of the experiences I've had here so far with government agencies have been poor or miserable. Nirpal attended me at the counter and found the best way to send my package internationals and save me money. Never had any problems at this post office. The staff are helpful. Parking is always available when I come here, too.

What a bunch of incompetent boobs. They deliver mail to the wrong addresses. The carrier will randomly put a "vacant" notice in your mailbox and delivery stops. They refuse to answer the phone, and instead of answering it, will take it off the hook. There is no voicemail. read more

Whoa either the customer is picky or the service is so slow ! My first time here, had to send my parking ticket ! So I thought it would be cheaper for me to pay for a stamp or you will get charge $5 for paying online. Came here after 3 pm ish, about 3 people infornt of me, the workers doesn't look that friendly. The OLD couple in front of me was like making out, how weird, like eww not the place for that yuck, I just wanted to hurrie up & leave this place so bad. All this inconvenient happend, I bought me a stack of stamps so I wnt have to ever be back ! To this weird place. or next time I will go the one in Cupertino ! After hours of trying to negotiate the main USPS site... and having no luck by phone (infinite automated options) or email form (which was down) A kind gentlemen helped me figure out where my delayed package was and when I might get it. I still don't have my package... but at least I have an expectation and spoke to a real person. read more

I went there to send out a package (duh?). The building is like 50 years old and looks it. They have a self-packaging/labeling station when you walk in. Of course they did not have any more shipping labels to write the departure and arrival addresses. The man behind the counter gave me one. Then I had to wait 15 minutes in line to be helped (which is pretty typical whenever I go here). I got it shipped out and I received an estimated arrival date range of 2-3 days out. It arrived at its destination after only 2 days. Not the best but its convenient and gets the job done. read more

Although this is one of the smaller post offices I've been to, this is the one that I've been the happiest with. When I first started using eBay and selling items, I was a bit clueless about sending packages and which box to choose, what postage to buy, etc. There was a middle-aged Asian man there who was always willing to help. He basically saw that I had a lot of trouble and was unsure and just came over and talked to me through the entire process while packaging my items and choosing the cheapest postage for me. Super helpful and really funny too! I'm not sure if he's still there because I haven't gone back in a while. Now that I'm proficient at sending out packages and whatnot, I can do it at any post office. I miss that funny guy though, I hope he's still there and helping out other clueless folk! read more

Bob is so rude! He should not be on the office helping customers. No wonder the lady before me was pissed about his service. His service to me was a disappointment when i asked for a return receipt. He made me write on the other side. When i was done writing he did not help me. I was back on the line again only to find out the there was a guy the same situation as mine. Debra is a wonderful supervisor! I went to the USPS on Payne Ave in San Jose and the staff was very helpful and Debra is an amazing leader. She went above and beyond to help me locate a missing package in a post office in Chicago. She took the time to make calls and check her computer system and with her help, the package was found! I would give this place negative stars if possible. This place has horrible customer service. I placed two orders for mail forwarding service and still some of my mail failed to go through. I opened a case for this location since I was suspicious that some of my sensitive mail was not forwarded. I received a call at 7:30 AT NIGHT well after the posted hours closed so I didnt not answer thinking the call was fraud. The rep left a detailed but useless voicemail along with a return number. I called that number dozens of times the next few days throughout various hours of the day in regular business hours of course but not a single person answered. Not only does USPS have a faulty mail forwarding system but terrible customer service. read more

When I was standing in line here I witnessed a employee named 'Bob' speaking to an elderly Asian man in such a rude manner. I guess the man clicked something wrong and he couldn't speak English well. 'Bob' was impatient with him and told him he was wasting his time. It was disgusting the way he was treating that poor old man! Totally degrading him in front of all of the people in line. I'm calling to complain. Never seen any kind of employee speak to a costumer like that before. I will never come here again, made me sick. read more

The wort Post Office with the worst service. They never even try to leave any of our packages at our door because we live in a "bad neighborhood" according to the jerks at the Post Office on Payne. I usually go to the Post Office in Campbell that has much better service bit unfortunately the San Jose Post Office on Payne is the one that delivers to my house. read more

These people are the reason the postal service should be privatized. They lose packages in the back constantly. They lost my neighbor's mail for four months in the back area. They move slower than a slug across a lawn! The delivery drivers constantly miss deliver mail that is clearly marked. A great example of government run business. Completely inept with a staff content to be losers in one of the worst jobs in the country. They have to give so much vacation time to these people and retire them after 20 years. I make lots of drop-offs at this location and they process and ship it out in a timely manner. Cannot complain in that aspect, but I do see where people are coming from. Can be very slow in line when it is crowded and the place is a mess. Not very appealing compared to other post offices, for example the one on Hamilton but this one is closer so it's a tossup. If you're lucky, you will get a parking spot right in front and can get in and out in a jiffy. If not, you have to park on the side and make an unnecessary loop around the back. It works. read more

I just sent the last 30 minutes at this post office. It was ridiculous to have a line out the door and two people working the front desk. Another thing to add to the annoyance of my time at the office was a front desk worker named Bob. There was an elderly couple in front of me and he was so unbelievably rude to them, dismissing their questions and talking to other guests in line while they tried to ask him questions. So rude!!! Once it was finally my turn I had the displeasure of having to be Bobs next customer. He was so rude and gave me no assistance in sending my package. He mumbled rude things about the address of my package and was short and unpleasant. My experience at this post office was horrible and I hope if I ever have to go back that Bob will NOT be there...... read more

My most recent interaction at this Post Office location involved a problem with their billing notification system. Essentially, I'd signed up to be notified via email when there were items in my mailbox; however, they put a billing notification in the box, and not notified me (Apparently, the notification system covers everything but billing notifications...). When I called to inquire about where my bill was, they informed me that I now had to come in and pay the bill...plus a late fee...plus a key change fee. Don't get me wrong, there are some helpful and patient clerks here, and I know that the clerk with whom I interacted was just doing his job, which I'm sure can be frustrating at times (and, to his credit, he acknowledged several times that I should have been informed that the email notification system includes everything but billing notifications), but this location truly exemplifies government funded bureaucracy at it's worst: inflexible, slow, and unhelpful (with a subtle...or not so subtle...aggressive and dismissive attitude toward customers on the part of some staff...in this case: the person who specifically manages the P.O. Boxes, not the regular clerks). My hope is that someone will read this and try to affect some positive changes around innovation, continuous improvement, and the general culture, but I'm not optimistic, given past experience and the context... TL;DR: You get what you pay for. USPS may be an inexpensive option, but their systems are not reliable, and they will not help you to address and/or remedy any (potentially pricey) failures in their system. UPDATE (8/2015): Since I have written this review (a month ago), they have messed up my mail notifications twice (a sign of continued incompetence or retaliation for previous review...either way: not a good sign). I'll update if this problems worsens or improves. read more

They don't let you know they can't deliver your package, they don't answer the phone, and their employees tell you they don't have your package even though it's there. You have to go there and argue to get their item. Not one single person gave me a straight answer. The most common answer was I don't know. Lol such a dysfunctional place. read more

So all I can say is that the Post Office isn't quite as annoying as the DMV but there were times that I thought I was going to go "postal" waiting in line just for them to tell me I have to come back and wait again. I was there for forty minutes the first time, I have to admit I laughed quietly on the inside as some elderly people started a scene about the lines and how much it was going to cost to mail something oversees. I thought it was funny. Anyways, so I come back the second time and the line moved somewhat faster. I guess I am a loser, because I didn't mind waiting, I had nothing better to do...*sigh* read more

The service here is so awful. No one wants to help you or cares about your order. Today when I arrived, I waited in line to be helped, and an unoccupied employee just stood in a doorway scowling at me. The guy who ended up "helping me" found reasons not to ship my item even though I had online details from the USPS website backing me up. He wouldn't even measure the package I had already made sure was the correct thickness and dimensions. Balwinder's "fuck you" attitude kept up not matter how polite you were in return. Out of the few times I've been there I haven't seen one employee smile, even once, though I suppose that shouldn't be a real surprise. read more

I really have to comment abt this incident , so I got a packaged that was to b delivered at my place but no one was home so it was sent back to this usps..I went to the usps to pick it up but this gentleman CHRIS couldn't find it and told me to leave my name and number and he will contact me when he finds it, it took a week to get this package but throughout this search Chris helped me locate it, talk to the carrier and finally get it delivered instated of having to go back to the post office to get it. So I am grateful and thankful to him cuz no one else there was doing to help me instead of putting me on hold and all so CHRIS if u r reading this Thank you, I got my package :) read more

I have had an unreasonably difficult time trying to file an investigation for a missing package where they actually follow through with what is promised. I finally was able to get the ball rolling and received a phone call the very next day. Of course I was excited that they got back to me so soon...but that excitement faded within a minute. The woman who called me refused to even talk to the delivery driver because "there is no chance he could have made a mistake during delivery"(even though I was repeatedly assured previously that that double checking is something they absolutely would do) Then she said it must have been stolen and when I tried to explain that my mail comes in a lock box that only the delivery man and I have access to, she accused me of lying to her and said there was nothing to do besides file it as stolen. She was very short with me and was in a hurry to hang up. Well, I filed a report and tried to call the post office again to open a new case with someone who would hopefully try at least a little instead of insulting me and got a hold of Son. He had been much more interested in actually investigating. He actually asked questions about how things typically get delivered and listened to all the information I presented instead of cutting me off and shutting me down like the previous employee. I spoke with him yesterday to get an update and he assured me that he was going to continue to do the best he can to figure out what's going on. Today I received a phone call from the first employee who basically told me what she told me the first day and said she was going to close the case(even though it isn't done being investigated yet). When I tried to figure out why she was trying to close it like this, she kept on saying that she just had to and wouldn't give me an actual answer besides that the new case had been open three days(which I assume their goal is to close cases that soon to look good?). When I asked if I could speak with Son to understand things better, she refused and insisted that she has to close it. Meanwhile, she is raising her voice at me, cutting of practically every other word I say and aggressively repeating all this...over and over and over. When I asked to speak with her supervisor(because she was being vague, rude, and changing her story repeatedly), she said she was the supervisor..just to tell me that Son is a minute later. Since she refused to give me any information to contact him, I asked her who was above him and she mentioned the district manager(I may have the title wrong. I was very frustrated at this point) . I asked her for his number or contact information, and (go figure) she refused to give me any information. She said he was working in another area today or something, as if that means he can't be contacted. I continued to let her know that I am not ok with her closing my case until I can at least speak with Son, and guess what she did..She yelled into the phone that she is closing it then hung up on me. I immediately tried to call the post office back and called for a solid half hour, but of course nobody picked up. I unfortunately didn't get her name, but seriously, this employee needs to be fired or at least severely reprimanded. The only reason why I am giving this two stars is because of the service Son has provided. If he didn't work there, I wouldn't think they even deserve one star. Long story short, if you need help and want it to be painless, talk to Son, otherwise you might as well try to reason with a temperamental toddler. read more

I know it's strange to write a review for a post office, but this review is specifically for Andrew! I called in today hoping to get my hands on a time-sensitive package and he very kindly took the time to look through a few of the mounds of other packages to see if mine was there. He explained to me that he couldn't look thoroughly as there was about 200+ packages in every pile, but that he'd do his best. I figured I'd need a lot of luck to have my package catch his eye. Luckily my package just happened to stand out and he was able to pick it out from the rest when he could've easily told me no. Thanks so much Andrew for being awesome and going above and beyond for me. And to whoever is reading this review - a little kindness and patience on your part could go a long way! read more

This post office is always packed and busy so I come here only for convenience since its close to my place. Parking is always a "payne". I'd have to circle around a few times. Other than that, the postal workers are nice and friendly and the lines do move fairly quickly. read more

Friendly staff, but often difficult to find parking and occasional long lines. Disappointed that they removed their stamp dispenser and often their new machine is out of order for stamps. It's annoying to have to wait in a long line just to purchase stamps. read more
