Had to ring a bell to get service. Not the most efficient service, but loved that there was a private parking lot in this neighborhood post office. Lots of rolls of tape for patrons to use. Counter totally behind plexiglass. You have to place packages in a cubicle that had a Sally Port...interesting! While waiting, I noticed there was a wallet left there which I turned into the agent who finally assisted me. Didn't appreciate the employee was on the phone the whole time. Luckily not much foot traffic and got my package mailed. Cool that there was an old school scale sitting on the counter for patron's use. read more

I went there TWICE today and it was closed - at 9:50am and at 3:30pm. They advertise their hours as 9:30am-12:30pm and 1:30-5pm. There was a sign on the door at 3:30 saying they were closed for lunch until 4pm. Very frustrating. I don't think I have time to go a THIRD time today. I've never done an updated review on Yelp before, this is honestly my first one. I was inclined to do it because I'm in total awe of how bad their rating is on here. It represents the exact opposite experience I've had whenever I visit, and I do so frequently. If you want to see a bad postal office, go to Chicago in the Merchandise Mart. It's so bad I'm actually calling it out because, to this day, it still makes me angry. While getting to this location can be tricky due to construction in the neighborhood, that's not their fault and no reason to rate them poorly. They have off the street parking as well as a drive up letter drop off, easy peasy. It's pretty quiet whenever I come. I may have one or two people in front of me but it never takes long. The service is always friendly and prompt once I get up to the counter. I usually come because I need a large number of stamps or I need to ship a package. That package is almost always already boxes up with postage, which does make it even easier. I'm just glad we have one in the area and I don't have to drive ten plus minutes to get something mailed. Fingers crossed folks realizes this and start to give them more credit. My mail is always delivered on time too. It may not come until around 5PM each day, but that's fine by me... as long as it comes I'm happy. The folks that deliver are always friendly too. I've even become good friends with one of my mailmen. These are people too!! Glad to have good service in the Short North. read more

Staff is never there during their open hours. No matter what time of day, they have a sign up saying they are on break and the few times the door is open, there is no one there. Not to mention when I have gotten to interact with the staff, they have always been incredibly rude. No idea how this location is still open considering they are always on break and rude. read more

Every single time I come to this location there is a sign on the door that says they are "on lunch" no matter what time it is. I have gone at noon, 1 pm, 2pm, and 3 pm on completely separate occasions and the door is locked as they are "on lunch". There was only one postal worker working up front, which caused the queue to be a little lengthy, but nothing out of the ordinary for postal services visits. The service I received was speedy and friendly. I was able to take care of everything I needed to do within a minute or two. The only issue I had was with the customer ahead of the line who was wearing his mask on his chin and made no effort to adjust it, despite the visible tension with the other customers. I understand that there are CDC recommendations not requirements, but I think the USPS should be able to deny service to those who do not comply. It makes it unsafe for everyone else if someone chooses to unmask in a public place, especially one of this size. read more

The USPS on E 4th Ave is a bit sad. There are always homeless people hanging around outside including one drag queen who proclaims she is just collecting money for the poor. The sidewalk around the drop boxes is chipped and crumbling. The bushes are overgrown. The inside of the post office is a little smelly and brown. There isn't much to look at other than the layers of bulletproof glass separating you and the staff. It makes you feel unsafe. You mainly want to get in, get out, and try not to touch anything along the way. There's always a line, but maybe that's because I go around 2:30p nearly every day. Two of the staff members, bless their hearts, are generally outgoing. There's Judy, who always has something nice to say, and Kyth, who remembers the regulars and will make small talk with anyone. The service at the branch isn't awful but could improve, and I think everyone would be much happier if this USPS location got a facelift. read more

Over 40 hours to scan in a package I took here to ship out. So I show up during business hours the next day to inquire about it and a sign is hung in the window stating "the system is down" oh how convenient for them to not have to run the front counter and answer questions about where packages are that have been in their possession for almost 2 days! I wander if it would have surfaced had I not started a package origin investigation and threaten to file a police report. All of which can easily be done online. Avoid this location, the one in Clintonville is much more professional and scans in packages within an hour of receiving them. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. I went into the Post Office on Short North at about 4:15pm with about 20 packages. After about 5 packages the clerk asked 'How Many Packages Do You Have?'. She seemed pretty agitated I am thinking because I had more packages than she wanted to do at the end of the day. I told her about 20. She continues on then about 5 more packages in she says 'You Have To Many Packages and I Have A Line. So You Are Going To Need To Step Out The Line So I Can Take Other Customers'. I was SHOCKED!!! I have NEVER been asked to step out the line in the Post Office because I had too many packages. I would've understood if they weren't labeled. But, they were all labeled and ready to go. I did not want to cause a scene; so I stepped to the side. She then takes the next customer who needed to get his mail from his box; but, he hadn't paid in months. So, by the time she resolved that issue it was literally the same time it took her to process my packages. She was the only one working; but, I waited my turn and expected to be treated like a customer. I just moved to the area and this is the closest Post Office; so, I will unfortunately have to return. But, this clerk needs additional training or help -- because she repeated over and over she was the only one working. I run an internet business and have lots of packages so I just want to be sure if I go to the Post Office I won't be asked to step out the line if the clerk thinks I have too many packages. read more

A 4-star postal office is probably a rare thing, but you expect the dreary commandments of bureaucracy would keep any office limping along at the three-star line, right? Well... This place is just a drab little cavern, horrifyingly out-of-date in nearly every way. It's clunky, dingy, and not physically built to truly accommodate the rather lengthy lines that form. This latter problem is no doubt tied to the fact that two times out of three, there will only be one (and sometimes less) postal worker behind the bullet-proof glass that divides the customers from the "services" limping along behind the counter. This is an office at which you wouldn't be surprised to find an Elvis stamp in the stamp machine, and maybe a ZIPPY poster to educate you on those new-fangled zip codes the dang government is forcing on every perfectly fine God-fearing American, by dang-it-all! The counters have long been stripped of their bead-chain pens, but not the depressions in which such pens should sit (nor the anchors for said bead-chains). Plenty of shelves and cubbies abound, often devoid of products I can only imagine have long-since been retired. Still, my overall experiences are not as uniquely terrifying as those described by other Yelpers. I have never had outright rude service here, and in fact was surprised when recently one of the workers here- without making any truly friendly overtures towards me- went never-the-less above and beyond the call of her meager duty to ensure I received a package despite the fact that it was not in my name (or anyone else's, for that matter) and none of my IDs show my current address. Still, a place overall best avoided unless necessary. If they are holding a package for you, fine, what else can you do? But if you have to do any outgoing mail transactions, or have other, more miscellaneous postal business, you may want to seek elsewhere. read more

I never had a bad opinion about the U.S. Postal Service until I moved into the 43201 area. It's a shame, too, because I literally live half a block away from 43215, which is serviced by the main post office. My 43201 mail carrier does not carry packages with him on his routes. I have had him hand me directly a "missed you while you were out" notice for a package. The mail carrier will not deliver mail on days the weather is bad. (Whatever happened to that old saying, "neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow...") They do not deliver non-presorted mail every day, but presorted mail is delivered every day. When my regular mail carrier was on vacation for two weeks, I had three different Amazon shipments returned to sender for no apparent reason. I do not live in an odd location at all (right in the heart of Italian Village on one of the numbered avenues, actually), yet this happened. We've had countless pieces of mail, including some very important ones, totally lost. We regularly get misdelivered mail for places that are nine blocks away. I've called the supervisor with my complaints multiple times and have been told I'm the only person who has ever complained. I truly find that hard to believe. The office's hours are extremely tight, so much so that anyone with a regular 9-5 job cannot go on a weekday, because they are only open 9-5. Actually, it's posted that they close at 5, but they lock the doors at 4:45. They post Saturday hours but sometimes do not actually open on Saturdays. If they choose not to open on a Saturday and you get a notice that you have a package that can be picked up after 11:30 on Saturday, going on Monday morning will mean that it isn't ready for pickup yet. One of the previous reviewers' favorite staff people, Judy, has changed to the main post office, so she's no longer there. Out of the remaining staff, some are just fine to deal with (I don't need someone to be "friendly", just courteous and helpful), while others are borderline rude. I used to be a strong proponent of the USPS, and in general, I think they're great. But my post office here in 43201 is the epitome of everything a post office should not be. I try to avoid having packages sent to me via USPS to my home address now, opting instead for UPS or FedEx. read more

AND my package hasn't been delivered for 3 DAYS when it says "delivered" on Amazon. And no, it's not Amazon's fault because this happened once before and it got delivered 3 DAYS AFTER it said "delivered" on Amazon. They delivered my mail ON THE STAIRS more than once and ON TOP of the mailbox, but not inside. WHY? p.s. I made an account just so I could leave this horrible review. Absolutely one of the worst post offices I've ever been to. I live just a few blocks away, and I only go here when I have to pick up a package or certified letter. I go to the one on Twin Rivers road instead, which is a 5-star place! The service there is terrible and the employees are overly snippy with customers and exceedingly slow. They fit every bad stereotype of non-incentivized government workers that you can imagine. They are slow, condescending, unhelpful, impatient, etc. In general there's only one person working behind the counter, and she exemplifies all of the above. The line is frequently 12+ people long due to her ineptitude. The sign of "If you wait more than 5 minutes here, call this number" has gotta be a cruel joke here, as they seem completely unwilling or unable to staff this location better. Its small, cramped, poorly laid out, poorly stocked with shipping supplies- and it has a huge security glass window that you've gotta deal with which makes sending packages and communicating with employees a real pain. I'm sure it helps out safety-wise, or rather, did at one point when the Short North was a less reputable neighborhood, but at this point its just annoying. If you can, go elsewhere. read more

In fact, I witnessed the delivery person drive by my house, stop for a second, and drive away without ever exiting the car. I had UPS and FedEx deliver me packages the same day. I tried to correct this by calling the post office the morning after I got this notification (they were closed when I discovered this false tracking update). I hate even giving them one star. I could get better service placing my envelopes in a dogs mouth and pointing in a general direction. Unfortunately, since I live in this zip code I am forced to come here for registered mail. The last time I came, I busted my butt to get there before close and there were still 2 people in line when I arrived at 4:57. The door was locked and when I saw the clerk she cussed at me because I asked if I could pick up my registered mail and that I booked it from work to get there before 5:00. It was 4:57 after all. She said she had to meet a $&$&@ truck and hell no. Well, sounds like a management problem and an attitude problem. Everyone there is pretty rude. I wish this wasn't the case, USPS. God I hate going here. I actually dread upcoming birthdays less for the fact that I am going to be another year older (and 30 real soon) and more for the fact that I know I am going to have to pick up at least one birthday package at my local Post Office because I wasn't home to sign for it. Last year I actually walked out of the P.O. at least three times before I had the patience to stand in line for 45 minutes just to get some damn socks from my grandma and and then had the exact same experience at Christmas time when receiving bike tires from the lil' sis' in Colorado. This post office has four windows but only two employees and one of them doesn't actually talk to people so the line is always ridiculous. There is no sort of waiting music and it is a very awkward to stand there for 20 minutes while waiting. I advise all to bring an iPod or something else to entertain and isolate you from the rest of the riff raff standing around with you. With a work environment like this, it is not hard to see where the phrase "Going Postal" came from. read more

This is the WORST post office and I make every attempt (whether it be using carrier pickup or going to the Twin Rivers location) to avoid this pit of doom. I spend a fair amount of money with the USPS for my business shipping needs and I do not appreciate the continuous doubt of whether my prepared packages are weighed properly. The office even announced at 4:30 one afternoon that they would not accept any international packages due to the time (end of day) even though they were open for 30 more minutes. They no longer accept prepared packages at their side door to avoid needless waiting in line for sometimes as long as 45 minutes, and I may be generous with that amount of time. I use the online click and ship services, I properly package and mark items, I have payment ready when I am called to the window (if needed), I'm courteous in communications, etc. I'm not asking the employees to do much...JUST THEIR JOB. This location gives the USPS and their workers a bad name and representation, it would be in their best interest to close this facility or DRASTICALLY improve the situation there with both the "workers" and building. read more

As many folks have said, being forced to give them one stair is painful. Absolutely the most incredibly rude, unmanaged jerks. I went in this morning to grab stamps on the way to work. When I arrived I was the only person in there. I rang the "ring bell for service" bell 7 or 8 times over the course of the next 10 minutes as a huge line mounted. As I was telling a new arrival that I had been there for 10 minutes the employee finally jumped behind the counter and started berating all of us. He yelled at me saying I was exaggerating and when another customer said if she was going to be treated like this she would just go elsewhere he said "GOOD, MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO ELSEWHERE." If you can avoid this post office, you probably should...you'll be happy you did and will probably save yourself a ton of time doing so. You won't get out of there in less than 20 or 30 minutes- even if you are the next person in line. There is usually only 1 person working, two if you're lucky. However, the lady that has been the one working when I go is very nice and helpful. It's probably also not the safest place to be. The fact that there is bulletproof glass from the ceiling to the counter should raise some concern. There is even a special door (also made of bulletproof glass) to open if you have any packages or large envelopes to send or to pick up. Go at your own risk! read more

Okay, I didn't really see anything wrong with this post office. It's a post office. The employees were super friendly and we were taken care of extremely quickly. To tell you the truth, it was probably the least amount of time that I have ever spent in a post office. Sure, it isn't the most aesthetically pleasing building in Columbus, but it gets the job done. The bullet proof glass didn't really bother me, but after leaving near East Cleveland for quite a while, I suppose you get used to it. Since it is my home post office location (?) WORST POSTAL SERVICE EVER ON THE PLANET. "Note left with customer." BULLSHIT. We NEVER get a notice from ANY carrier. Then we're in 43203 zip area; WHY are our packages held in the Short North? We have 4 packages gone missing within the last 2 weeks. i had to chase one down a month ago. One carrier told me that, that office is the sorting office... well then SORT them, and be done with it. I approached a carrier and told him we never got a note on THAT one and within 2 hours he comes to the door with the missing package. Why am I forced to track down my own mail? Why am I not on the payroll? I'm doing their job! How is this even acceptable for ANY carrier?? And they wonder why they are in danger of going under? Obviously would never go here by choice, but when you live in the 43201 you have no choice. I have all my mail shipped to work in Westerville to avoid this hell-hole and their ridiculous hours. Unfortunately forgot to change my shipping address for a recent kickstarter purchase which is waiting for me. Will need to make the hour round trip drive home from work at lunch to pick this package up because they are open from after 9 until before 5. Oh and probably spend 45 minutes waiting in line. 2 hours down the drain because I forgot to change my shipping address from my own home to a different address. Numerous occasions where I was supposed to get a package but, "address could not be found" even though there are other packages that have been delivered to the other tenants of my apt. building. Called before going to see what was up-- no one answered. When I went there, one employee told me they just "didn't know" where it was and gave me a number to call and of course that number was disconnected. I live in a condo and my neighbors are getting their mail at their door step, too. There is a cluster box, it would be much safer and weather friendly if the cluster box would be utilized. This post office, I swear. Or, at least, I do every time I try to conduct business with them. Living in the Short North, you'd hope for a cute little neighborhood post office but NO that is not what you get! Previous reviewers have already described most of my frustration with this particular post office, but I'll summarize anyway. The hours: They're open from 9:30 - 5 on weekdays, and some Saturdays from tenish to twoish. I was working day shift aka normal people hours during December, and getting over there to pick up and mail various packages was a pain. The mailing I could have done elsewhere, but pickups? Not so much. Packages: I got a notice that there was a package for me which required a signature. The card gave me the option of picking up the package the next business day, or signing the card to release the package for redelivery. Well, I couldn't pick it up because of their hours (see above) so I filled out the card to have it redelivered. A week later, I was still waiting, and finally made a special trip to go pick up the package. Once at the post office, the clerk tried to tell me that the card hadn't yet arrived and that the packages were stationed at another location, but if that were the case, why send me a card giving me the option to pick up the package at the Short North location the next day? And behold, when she went to check the back, the package was there -- had been sitting there all week. Another time I was waiting for a delivery -- the mailman didn't even knock to see if I would receive the package (a large box), but threw it behind the bushes at the side of the house (I guess in an attempt to "hide" it from street view) and then scribbled a note on one of my incoming letters which said, "PKG side porch by tree." It was in a pile of snow -- and this was a box of books, so it's a good thing I ran out and grabbed it before the snow melted and ruined the shipment. The Office: I've gone right at opening, and there were four people waiting outside until they finally opened. It took ten minutes to get through these four people because there was only one clerk, a nice but very careful and deliberate (and therefore slow) lady who kept being distracted by another employee who was obviously disgruntled to be there and could be heard yelling angrily in the back office area. I've only once seen more than one clerk working at a time; and only once have had efficient, polite, and timely service -- which was so surprising that I actually emailed through the USPS website to compliment their service. There is no self-service machine, which would help drastically reduce the wait times for people who just need stamps or a simple mailing. read more

This post office is THE WORST!!! They received a package that contained perishable items on Wednesday. It went out on the truck 9:50 am Thursday (guaranteed delivery 8pm). And NEVER showed up! My son was home ALL day waiting. They never attempted delivery. Did they deliver Friday??!!! HELL NO. The customer service number has a 47 minute hold time. Needless to say, I will be filing a complaint with the post master and getting a refund. read more

As others have suggested, this is pretty much the worst post office ever. I have never gone there and not had to wait in a long line, and even when the line is shorter than normal, it still takes a long time because the employees move very slowly. If there is a package to get from the back, you can be sure that the clerk will mosey off to get it and, some time later, mosey back, seemingly oblivious to the dozen or so people he's forcing to wait. You might think that if you worked there and saw people lined up far out into the lobby, this would inspire you to hustle at least slightly -- not necessarily because it's good business (the post office doesn't have to worry about that), but just out of consideration for your fellow man. But no. The bulletproof glass that the clerks stand behind makes things all the more cumbersome. I can understand safety concerns, but every other business in the area (including banks) manages to get by without it. It's worth driving out of your way to go to another post office, or even to pay a little extra to do your postal business at the UPS Store. read more

While this is probably the very slowest post office known to man, or at least to me, it does have some redeeming factors. The staff is very friendly and, unless you catch them on a bad day, they are always willing to answer questions and hunt down packages for you - even if you lost your slip. I know there are things they could do to make their service a little speedier, but it often feels that they are doing the best they can with the few people they have working there. read more

Is zero stars a possibility? Over the past few years I have had hundreds of dollars worth of goods lost by this post office. They need to be shut down and put under new management. Period. I can't even count how many people I've talked to that have had issues with this post office. Being that it serves one of the largest off campus communities in the country, it needs to be well managed for it's large number of customers. I'm convinced this is the slowest post office in the country. It doesn't matter if there are 5 people in line or just one--somehow you will be waiting at LEAST 15-20 minutes, even though there are usually two people working (inevitably one isn't helping anyone and seems to just be walking around or shuffling papers--watch the next time you're there). The people who work there do seem very nice though--just painstakingly slow/untrained. Today, I walked in and was so pleased to see there was just one man at the counter--yay! I had prepaid packages that you can normally just drop off, but this post office has this security door compartment that you can't open if the other side isn't closed. So, I waited. The aforementioned man at the counter was buying stamps. Should be quick enough, right? Yeah, no. The woman did not know how to ring them up! She had to ask the other woman (who, again, wasn't helping anyone) for help--twice! From all the way in California this post office branch is a total disgrace in comparison to the many other wonderful branches I have experienced. Do NOT send anything overnight to someone in this area via the USPS. I have sent one $80 box that never was delivered and contents destroyed due to non- delivery. They claim they tried to deliver the package and left a notice. Hmmm...he was home the whole time to receive it and NO notice was left. They won't refund the $80 despite their "money back guarantee". Rude employee on the phone, when they finally answered and basically told me not their problem. Should have learned the first time and tried again with an overnight package. No surprise...did not arrive the next day. My son made the effort to miss school and walk to the post office only to be told that they did NOT have to deliver the package within the 24 hrs. Huh? What does overnight mean...days? Oh did I mention I tried calling multiple times from California to try and reach someone to locate the box. Phone just rang and rang.
