This one SHOULD have been great, since the W&M campus is historic, gorgeous, and generally really nice. But the USPS branch had a terrible location in the lower floor of the student union (one of two), and it was hard just finding it! The, assuming that you arrived, you had to wait in line and had no real sense that the staff cared about you. So ... what made this unpleasant: the surly staff or the less-than-stellar location? Or the students who only cared about getting their packages and getting the hell out of there? It's all three, of course, but LOCATION matters. A lot. This is my first major "breakthrough" in my quest to find the formula for the perfect, 5-star post office. Location, location, location.

This is a great historical attraction, but you have to know how to navigate it. The signs around…read morethe historical section are not great at all. We stayed a few miles away, so we drove in and parked at the visitors center (paid parking). Go inside the visitors center to get your passes & maps (make sure you get the clip passes as every person manning the doors at the different houses will ask). Go down to the bottom of the visitors center and catch the WATA bus to go into the historical section. We started at the governor's mansion and walked from there. You'll easily get 10,000 steps if you see the whole property, if you have mobility issues you definitely should rent a scooter (there are quite a few rental spots around the visitors center). You can take the WATA bus to most of the big attractions, but walking through really gives you the whole experience. We made the mistake of going on a 95° day in August and quickly realized there is little shade on property. Be prepared to be in direct sun most of the day. We had someone in our group who was hard of hearing using hearing aids, and it was quite hard to hear a lot of the tour guides in the buildings with the echoes. Emily in the governors mansion was the best tour guide by far. A must see attraction, but do your research and plan your trip before coming

The printed map is surprisingly difficult to use, directional signage is inadequate, and it is often unnecessarily hard to work out where you are and how to get to the next attraction or program. And it wasn't just us. I lost count of how many visitors we saw standing staring at maps, apparently trying to figure out where to go next. This was especially frustrating because someone in our party has limited mobility following recent surgery. Walking several hundred yards in the wrong direction isn't just an inconvenience in that situation. In 2026, a major attraction covering an area this large should have proper smartphone navigation. You should be able to select "Governor's Palace," a particular program, restaurant, restroom, or bus stop and get GPS walking directions from your current location, along with distance, accessibility information, and estimated walking time. Better physical directional signs are badly needed as well. There is so much history here and clearly an enormous amount of work goes into preserving and interpreting it. The problem is finding it. Colonial Williamsburg could be a wonderful visitor experience. Unfortunately, today we spent far too much time trying to figure out where we were and where we were supposed to go. This is a very fixable problem, and I hope they fix it.

So now I have to drive across town because the guy didn't stop me and didn't inform me about this until after I purchased that QR code.

Sophia usually handled that arena by mostly ordering online, but we were running short so I was given the task to pick some up. It was right after I got off work so I stopped by on the way home. Foot traffic was very minimal which resulted in no wait at all. I actually stood in line for no longer than 15 seconds. As stated earlier, it was for buying a book of stamps. To my surprise, the cost for the book was over $14. Back when I used to ship items off by mail, stamps cost under $10. It's crazy to see the prices go up each year. Unfortunately, we have to accept the changes and move on. Besides the price increase, the transaction went smooth as usual. I know this location will always come in handy for yours truly. I showed up at 4:45 because that's when I could get there. This lady was yelling at me the WHOLE time complaining that "I showed up right before they close" I grabbed the 2 bubble wrap packages I needed and went to put the items in there (hadnt even been there 1 minute) and she yelled "I'll do it" and grabbed the stuff out of my hands even though she had no idea which package went with which packing slip. I got irritated and told her she needs to give me a minute, good thing I checked because she had the wrong package with the wrong slip. She complained the whole time talking about "Everyone shows up right before I close, I'm sick of this I need to get off work on time, don't you want to get off work on time, management needs to change the hours we need to close at 4:30 because you guys are ridiculous showing up before we close, I can't do this" blah blah blah. I get it she wanted to go home. But I was hurrying, and would've been done in 2 seconds but her complaining and yelling made everything take even longer. People showed up after me with packages that literally just needed to be scanned, and she turned them down and closed the door, it wasn't even 5 yet. If you hate it that much, get a different job. I was told they "make no money" on packing, but forcing customers into overpriced shipping isn't the answer.
