Went here for my passport appointment and was treated like an absolute nuisance from the start. I had a 5:30 pm appointment that I rushed to after getting off work, got there early, and the store appeared to be closed. Luckily, I looked around enough and found a way to enter the building to notify the employees of my appointment (although I would argue they should have a sign with some sort of instruction for this situation). Another man was with me doing the same thing. A woman, whose name I don't know, treated me with such aggression and hostility that I have never experienced before. I opted for a passport appointment rather than a drop off location so that I could double check that all of my materials looked good-- to no avail. She ordered me around, barely reviewed my documents, rolled her eyes and scolded me for anything I said or did, and got me out of there as quickly as possible. Most frustratingly, I just recieved notice from the state department that there was an error on one of my materials-- one she could've easily helped me out with if she just gave me an ounce of her attention and did her job. Incredibly disappointing. This is also my first Yelp review ever unfortunuately-- I've never had such a bad experience. read more

I had to return and fortunately the gentleman was a sheer delight to deal with. He was professional, knowledgeable, kind and just plain nice. This post office is very large with mailboxes, a retail section and a passport services section. The customer experience is very hit or miss in my opinion. The staff is either very cranky or engaging but it maybe take them a bit to look up from their phones before they greet you. The Post Office use to be one of those places I loved going to when I was a child many moons ago. I believed that the Post Office was a place where people who had business went. Similar to the bank and the pharmacy. I still feel important when I need to go inside the Post Office. It is usually only to mail a tax payment or to send an important letter or package that needs insurance or to be sent certified. This Post Office is named after Thomas Morris Jr. and Joseph Curseen, the two black men who died from a deadly Anthrax attack which was an act of domestic terrorism. The contaminated letters were sent to the Brentwood mail facility mere days after the September 11th attacks. Since my own grandfather retired from that facility a few years before, the story really hit home much harder than the tragic events of just a few days before. They shall never be forgotten and a memorial has been erected in their honor. Today the Post Office is in need of a facelift. The interface is outdated and the processes by which customers are handled at the counters could be improved. I went on tax day, perhaps the busiest day of the year outside of the lead up to Christmas. This Post Office also processes passport applications, even the passport photo. There was a long line for this service but it is done on an appointment priority. There is room for enhancement and improvement. The employees seem overworked and understaffed, but they kept a positive demeanor even when other customers were rude. I still love coming to the Post Office and I value the service provided by the employees. Needed enhancements aside, this is a decent Post Office. The two stars are because of a nice African gentleman I ran into at the entrance. The lady at the counter I dealt with was, in my opinion, condescending and impatient. I had several questions regarding different topics but also had my special needs son with me. She only gave me her attention for a few seconds and the rest of the time was looking away in a manner suggesting she was done. I ended up going to a smaller branch a mile away and was quickly and politely helped. Just another reason to get out of northeast as soon as possible. The retail stores are a separate experience from receiving mail at home and dealing with mail carriers & sorting machines. This review is focused on this location only. Brentwood Avenue is a farther schlepp than our old location near the postal museum. The area is industrial and bland, but the retail employees are nice. You can get a passport at this branch. The waiting area has about 50 chairs, which indicates the wait can be long for other services. No one was around on a weekday in the late afternoon. There is a security guard at the desk but he can't see the occasional pan handlers outside. I feel safe but I am hyper alert by my car. I don't look for my keys outside. They are in my hand as I am walking to my car. There are many more choices for stamps at the usps web site than inside the post office. Bonus points for the holiday decorations and giant tree in the lobby at Xmas. read more

I arrived at 9:30am for my Passport needs & I must say it was not what I expected. From the USPS Police Officer (Washington's main post office) welcoming me & giving me sign in directions, to the not too bad of a wait (an hour or less) & interacting with the employee who assist me, all was well. Cash or Debit Card payments only - that generates into a USPS Money Order for your application fees & your original forms of ID will be returned to you in the mail. Suggestions to keep your visit short: Try to come on a weekday (I was told a line forms before the doors open) Have your application already filled out Have copies of your Birth Certificate & old Passport if you have one Have your photo with you (they do take pictures for an extra free) Closest Metro Station is Rhode Island - Red Line, had I know I could have crossed through the Home Depot parking lot, I would have walked opposed to Ubering over. read more

I was much more impressed with this post office than expected! The employees were efficient and truly friendly. My only complains were: 1) lack of mailing supplies available for self-service before getting in line, and 2) there was a very loud incessant beeping that was driving everyone crazy, but was never addressed by anyone working. I was inside for about ten minutes, and the beeping continued. With that being said, I would go back to this post office to mail a package or buy stamps. I'd hope that the low supplies thing was just a fluke. No complaints about personal customer service. read more

I went here to get a new passport since I had lost mine. Overall, it was a fine experience. When you arrive, they have a designated passport area. There is a small table to the side (not the main table) where you sign in and can pick up blank forms to fill out. When I arrived it took me about 5 minutes to realize that this was the process. They guys there kind of acted like you would know.. but how would anyone know since most people only will come here once in their life? Another pro tip about the forms--they must be single sided. I filled mine out online but had to do it again since I printed double sided. After I waited for 40 minutes, my name was called. I recommend bringing something to do while you wait, or just make sure that your phone is charged so that you can browse. They took my picture and then I was sent to one of the booths. The guy came over and just had me sign the form and pay. You pay the state department by check, cash, or debit card, but you can pay the post office itself also using a credit card. Once my name was called, I was out the door in 5 minutes. Overall, this place does the job. The staff is stoic and fairly efficient, the seating area is fine but kind of smells. I wouldn't not recommend this place, but I wouldn't sing its praises either. read more

Went to get minor child a passport. Staff were very helpful, line moved fairly quickly for the volume. Overall excellent experience and a big shout out to the staff working the passport service area. What to expect. No appointments on Saturday. Walk-ins only. Opens at 9 am. There is a large waiting area with seating. Got there at 9:05 and were 14th on the list. Much of the waiting area was full, but we found a few seats and settled in. Only one staffer when we arrived. She was already working diligently down the list. Other staff started to get to their desks and by 9:30 four to five Post Office staff were working passports. I was missing a copy of the back of my DL, but helpful clerk, made a copy for me. Passport photos are $15 and easily done. We were all paid and finished by 9:55. I am very grateful for the men and women at the passport service area at the 900 Brentwood Road NE Post Office. Great job and thank you! PS, parking is limited. Small parking lot and a few street spots. Take Lyft or Uber. read more

Three words: Oh my goooood. So, pretty much had to come to this location OR wait two months for an appointment, so I chose the former as I was going on a cruise and needed to get a passport. Got a nice three and a half hour wait. Had to work from my phone which is a bit harder than doing thru laptop. Can't even imagine if I had an office job how this would have worked. Thank the good lord I pretty much had everything ready to go including photos taken at CVS a few days earlier, so when I was actually up the only thing they had to do was make the copies. Was very fast. Yes, you can use credit card as payment here even for new passport, which was a big question mark I had going in. No checks needed. While this didn't happen to me I saw people in line getting treated very rudely and being ordered around like vermin. Was not a great look. They really should have a staff member going around checking documents for people in line like they did last time I went to the DMV in NYC. I saw a few folks get turned away because they were missing one thing after waiting the ridiculous amount of hours in line. On the bright side, I got my passport docs ahead of schedule in the mail just a few weeks after, though I don't know how much this location had to do with that... read more

I went here today to find 2 packages that had been floating around in purgatory for nearly two weeks. The long was long and slow moving, but that's expected at the post office on a saturday at 1 pm. Everyone I came into contact with was very polite, some were even funny and they were super helpful. After checking in about 3 different stock rooms they found my packages and let me know why they had been held (issues getting into my apartment building). They even gave me the supervisor's number to pass to my landlord to fix the situation. I was in and out in about 30 mins and it was totally worth it. I thought writing a review for a post office was silly, but wanted to give credit where credit is due! read more

I don't get it but I do. Everybody's ordering stuff because we're stuck in the house and employees are sick and you're trying to be safe. Just work on the accuracy of the updates. Don't say you couldn't get in the door when the building has a door person because you don't feel like coming back to the building. Make sure you bring the package back the next day as said in the dishonest update. I'm not about to stress over a package but it has been a month and it's sad that it's sitting less than two miles away for two days with no updates. She stated that she was unwilling to give me the name of her supervisor when I asked and told me I can either give her my name for a "call back" from her supervisor or wait on hold all day. I had a certified letter sent to me on Friday, and the post office left a notice. I followed the instructions on the notice and scheduled a redelivery for Monday. Monday rolled around, no delivery. Then Tuesday rolled around. No delivery. Called customer service on Wednesday morning and was told that they STILL had the left but I would have to pick up it up at Brentwood. When I went to the Brentwood post office, I was treated rudely by staff there, who demanded to see my ID. I had told the customer representative that the certified letter CONTAINED my ID and that she would put a note to that effect. There was no note. I managed to convince the rude employee that my ID was IN the package, but not before she said this gem: "How do I know it's you? You could be the EVIL Twin!" read more

Went there three times to request a USPS lock be placed on a building I own to allow USPS deliveries inside. I was promised each time I would be contacted to have it installed. It never happened. I gave up and mounted mail boxes on the outside of the building. Epic fail. Also..I do not ship anything of value through USPS, they are just too unreliable in the DC area. This is the worst postal location with super lazy carriers. They don't deliver my packages to me but mark it "delivered" under the USPS tracking number. Sometimes they don't even bother with a peach slip to let me know where the hell my parcel is. Or, they'll put the peach slip once, and after I've signed it and asked for redelivery on paper AND went online and completed a redelivery request form, they won't even attempt a second delivery, and won't leave another slip. Then my package gets sent back to Japan or Italy, all because some folks here won't do their job. By far the worst and laziest service ever. read more

I believe this location steals packages and SWEARS that they lost it!! I had a international package come to this distribution center from US customs. The sender placed my address on the package clearly. Then i got a computer generated alert that the package was in transit....this alert came to me via text every day for 4 days!! All of a sudden i start to inquire about the whereabouts about my package, but everyone seems lost like they don't know what i mean when i say i am looking for a package, and i am rushedout of the door. Anyways, a day later the usps tracking status changes from in transit to dead mail! HOW!!? I truly believe these people steals packages! Now all of a sudden its going to a facility in Atlanta. Usps, this is pathetic and you all need some accountability with your less than mediocre way of handling packages. OIG will not investigate unless they see a pattern which is sad. This is only for the passport office, not the post office. I came here to handle a passport issue (my dog ate it, no joke). I wanted to apply in person to ensure they would accept the damaged passport. There's supposedly an office near 20th Street NW, but when I tried to call to set an appointment, I was redirected to the phones at this location. The woman was really friendly and told me to come in and she'd be able to take care of me with very little wait. Upon arriving, I signed in and was almost immediately helped. I was in and out in 20 minutes. The passport agent was really friendly. Based on reviews, I was really dreading my visit and maybe I just got lucky. But outside of being a little far from my apartment, I can't complain. I got what I needed done successfully and without any headache. I hope others can have the same experience. read more

Oh dear. There's a reason the post office is struggling. I went to pick up my package because I had a slip in my mailbox, and when I got to the window, I was told I was in the wrong place. The woman I spoke to told me they put the wrong address on the back of my slip and says she'll find out where I need to go instead. She comes back with two numbers written down and tells me I need to call them to find my package. (They're the post office, why can't they track my package?) Anyway, no big deal, I go to call the number when i get back in the car and the numbers are both out of service. So I called the 1-800 number. I spoke to someone very nice and she told me I needed to go to 18th St to get my box. Ok, great, I went to 18th St, but alas my package was not there either! Once I was there I was told to go to 14th and U because they only have PO boxes there. Once I got there, the rudest employee I have ever spoken to told me they couldn't give me my box because I forgot my photo id. I told everyone who send me packages to use Fedex or UPS because I'm not dealing with any of these places again! read more

After spending the morning at the Social Security office across the street, the Passport office at this post office was a breath of fresh air! I walked in around 10:15am and signed in at the clipboard. I had already filled out a printed passport application at home and had photos taken at a photo shop close to my house. They do have the set up to take passport photos on location though. Plenty of seats and a TV with the news on in case you don't have a phone, newspaper, or book to distract you. I was called back to Ms. Mitchell's cubicle at 10:40am. I gave her all filled out form, ID, citizenship certificate and she processed everything with ease while making pleasant small talk. I paid for the application with a check (you can do check or money order), and I paid the post office processing fee with a credit card. I had to raise my right hand to swear I filled out the form to the best of my knowledge and everything on the form was true. And just like that I was done! i was out of there at 10:53am. If you need to apply for a passport in person, this is the place to go. No need for an appointment, just walk in and sign in. read more

Went for a passport appt for 4 people and needed photos, the line was huge, no one cared if you had an appt or not and then they tell us their camera is broken. Why would that not be told to us when or before the appt was made? Why is the camera broken? We have three kids and now have to come back after we find somewhere to get photos. I'm tired of the letter carriers here constantly scamming the system. They will scan your packages as "delivered" but don't deliver them at all and then your items mysteriously show up days later if they show up at all. This has been a consistent problem with our carrier for months now and remains a problem for everyone in my condo complex. I have time stamped delivery messages saying what time an item was "delivered" when the carrier has never stepped foot on the property (as is evidenced by security camera footage) When they do deliver packages to our building they dump them in a pile outside without sorting them. Sometimes they leave boxes of unsorted mail sitting in our parking lot. read more

Worst USPS location ever. For three days in a row my packages was attempted delivery and never delivered. I finally called USPS and told them to just hold the package at the location. And I will come pick it up. I was called back by a supervisor and told to come pick up a package at 800 K ST. I left home and took an Uber there. Well that location is closed. After calling customer service and dealing with that for 30 mins I was told to go to 900 Brentwood RD. When I get there I waited in line... of course. As Soon as I am next up a lady tells me to go wait at the blue window for pickups. I went to this blue window and rung a bell. A guy came and told me my package was in fact there but I needed to call a phone number to have them bring it downstairs. WTF?! He gave me two numbers just in case one didn't answer. So I called these two numbers over and over for 30 minutes until my phone finally died. Now I was fed up. I rung the bell at the blue window again. An older woman came saying she will go get my package upstairs. She took my info down and walked away. I started shaking my head in frustration. Then some totally different guy behind the blue window sees my frustration and asks me my name and address to where my package was going. I told him my information and he says "Oh your package is right here". And he has the package in his hands. So done. Literally the most ridiculous experience trying to get a package ever in my life. I had a package to be shipped from Pittsburg, PA on January 19, 2022 going to Washington, DC 20019. It was a two day delivery package. The package stayed there being ignored and un-processed until January 24, 2022 when I complainted to usps about not getting it. I had to put in two complaints just to get some results. The package finally started being processed on January 25, 2022. The package arrived at usps facility Washington DC Distribution Center 20066 on January 26, 2022 at 5:05 pm and never left. I have not received any information regarding it after calling the main number and consumers affairs. It is now January 28, 2022 and my package is STILL at the 20066 distribution center. They also are not answering the phones. I should have received the package around January 21, 2022. USPS is a waste of time in my book because of the staff and the management that runs it. read more

The passport staff was extremely helpful in helping me renew my passport. I arrived at 12:45 on a Saturday and they allowed me to take the photo right away instead of having to wait 2 hours with the crowd of people getting new passports. One staff member was especially helpful because he noticed that I did not have my Social Security number and signature on the form. The staff member behind the blue counter "saved" my passport renewal process by walking me through how to complete the money order and identified missing components on the form. I came here to send a certified letter. At the counter i said " Hi, i would like to send a certified letter." The female employee had a blue tooth headphone in and was talking on the phone while processing my request. After receiving my receipt i noticed it was saying standard shipping. I came back and asked what is this? I specifically mentioned certified!!! All what she said was OOO.. i didn't hear you!! Maybe if you wouldn't be on the phone you could hear me! Those post office "lost" two of my clothing packages twice in a row. I have started to mail my items to a different address to keep my packages from coming up missing. Both of these packages were clothing items and both had their clothing company logos branded on the packaging, so I don't find this to be a coincidence. I suspect theft and will be reporting those packages to the OIG. read more

This is the most unprofessional post office I have ever dealt with. They lost/ delivered my space heater to the wrong address so I had to contact amazon for a full refund. Then I order another package and the tracking number first said they couldn't deliver because of an animal but there isn't any animals in my entire building. The I checked again and it said weather was reason for the delay. I spoke to at least 2 different supervisors and no one could locate my package. I honestly see absolutely no reason why this Post Office is rated so poorly. I went in today seeking a Passport Card since I have no other form of ID outside of my passport book. The book itself is rather clunky to have to carry around, so the card would be easier to use. I went in with no appointment, filled a form out, and was taken care of excellently by two lovely ladies in the passport department, Yvette and another very kind lady who's name I wish I remembered. I didn't have a valid driver's license on me due to it being expired, so Yvette and the other lady were kind enough to use my college ID that I had on me for ID. The process was very easy, and I was in and out in about an hour! Yvette and the other lady are AWESOME. read more
