I honestly see absolutely no reason why this Post Office is rated so poorly. I went in today seeking a Passport Card since I have no other form of ID outside of my passport book. The book itself is rather clunky to have to carry around, so the card would be easier to use. I went in with no appointment, filled a form out, and was taken care of excellently by two lovely ladies in the passport department, Yvette and another very kind lady who's name I wish I remembered. I didn't have a valid driver's license on me due to it being expired, so Yvette and the other lady were kind enough to use my college ID that I had on me for ID. Austin, whom I believe is the branch manager, helped me to figure out where it may have been delivered with success even though the branch was busy, he was understaffed, and I was not at the correct branch for my address. Clerk #16 needs to go through Customer Service CLASSES (plural). I arrived at the Post Office at approximately to mail a 2-Day Domestic envelope 4:15pm and did not exit until 4:55pm. There were 10 people in line and the two postal employees working the floor were very helpful in assisting customers and making sure everyone had the correct forms filled out, etc... There were three clerks at the counter and customers continued to enter for service and the line started to build up. At that time Clerk #16 finishes with a customer and ceases work. The employee on the floor looked to see why he did not call for the next customer. Clerk #16 shut down his station, opopped open his till and told the employee working floor that he needed to empty his cash drawer (I'm assuming that there is a threshold on the amount of cash per till). He then grabbed a handful of cash from the till and left the line. Mind you, this is right before end-of-day close and there are people in line. Clerk #16 was away from the line for 15 minutes; returned with the same cash in his hand -- placing it back into his till, and reopened his station. At that time, I was next in line and was not invited to his counter by "Next customer please", "How may I assist you" or by the UPS "standard" greeting. Instead, I was beckoned forth by a hand gesture. I informed Clerk #16 that I did not understand his gesture. He then invited me to his counter using a more professional greeting. He proceeded to complete my transaction, but during this time he was speaking loudly to the line of customers saying numerous times: --"Does anyone have international packages and need to fill out customs forms, 'cause I'm not filling out a bunch of forms when you get to my counter." --"Can some of you come back tomorrow (chuckle...chuckle)? Even though he may have thought this was "funny", he was so unprofessional. It was close to closing time and the customers wanted to be in and out just as much as he was to clear the lobby and end his work day. According o the number of people in line when I arrived and no one in frony of me had packages, I would confidently conclude that my total wait & transaction time should have been no longer then 15 minutes. Instead it took 45 minutes!! Everyone's time is valuablle. Received an alert my package was deliver, and the Postal worker never serviced my building. I have concerns that the numbers provided to speak with someone just rings, and consumer affairs asked to leave a voicemail and no one returns the call. Today our substitute mail person informed us that she would be unable to deliver mail to our condominium because her supervisor did not give her the key to our mail boxes. This is an all too frequent occurrence when our regular mail man is on leave. When we have substitutes, we either get the mail late in the evening or not at all. It is typical when our regular mail carrier returns from a couple of days off that he has several days of mail to deliver. He advises that "the supervisors don't care." I tried calling the Brentwood Post office to complain. The number provided on the website is not manned. The automated message informed me that they cannot take messages. In short, they are unavailable to speak to the public. And they appear to be accountable to no one. read more

This post office has lost two packages of mine in the past month. They have not returned any of my phone calls, nor have they answered any of them. Customer Service has been rude and insensitive every single time I have managed to get through to someone. I made a special trip to this facility to have my passport completed on 2/19/20. Paid the extra money to expedite the process only to receive a letter about the picture that was taken by the postal worker. I'm now at the same post office and must wait behind twelve people just to take another picture because of their screw up. read more

I was suddenly having issues with the wrong mail delivered to my box (address for across the street) Also my mail is constantly damaged by water b/c this delivery person refuses to close the lid to my box. I have had to cash checks that were SOAKED. This has been happening for MONTHS. Furthermore, they would put random pieces of mail inside random pages of junk mail. I'd have to go through every page in order not to throw something out that was important. It seems like doing this would take up a lot of time, right? ... yet they can't close a lid to prevent my mail from getting soaked. A. LID. Oh, and when I would put the incorrect mail out for them to put in the correct box, they'd stick it right back in my box. Really? I finally wrote (after this happened numerous times) a POLITE complaint online (in subsequent emails you can tell I get progressively aggravated when no one contacts me). The post office will "contact you in 1 to 2 business days" (yeah, right) I went to the extent that I bought sticky numbers to put outside my door in case the person was new and didn't know which mailbox corresponded to which house (though it's obvious) and wrote the number of the house on the mailbox AND made a note with my and my huband's names on it so they'd know who lives here because I also get mail for a person who has lived here at least two years ago if not much more b/c this house was not rented for a long time and the person before us was a man and we keep getting mail for a woman. Prior to this when I did my change of address, the other post office, never did mine correctly, only did my husband's, they got my address wrong, claimed they had corrected it yet I call four months later and lo and behold my name is still on the old PO BOX. Tah-dah! They were trying to blame it on this new office which at that point I had never had a problem with, but after that, all this other stuff happened. So anyway, weeks go by, no answer, same crap, box open, mail soaking wet... I write another email and nothing again. Weeks go by, I write another but this time, I send another email to this address which apparently oversees my local office (I guess this is a district office and you have the option to contact them) so I wrote them too. Again, contact within 1 or 2 business days, still waiting weeks later. I write my post office AGAIN. Nada. Today I call the number for the post master, finally after a long hold, I get a nice gentleman who informs me that every single complaint got put as "solved" and "customer contacted" by the supervisor of my local office. Nice job! And nice job to these idiots here for never doing their job and responding as district managers. I hope all of them lose their jobs and end up jobless like the insane amount of Americans who actually WANT to work and can't get a job; and these guys get a job b/c they know someone with pull. Even doing a job for free, I wouldn't be such a disgrace. I've gone out of my way for customers over much less and have been super apologetic when the companies I've worked for screwed up. So this man I spoke to today gave me a different case number starting with different letters (elevated complaint after 5 emails sent and no response) and said that if I don't get contacted, to call Consumer Affairs, which I read now by other reviews, never returns calls; and now I come here and see all the 1 star complaints to this office as well. So I guess this will never be solved b/c no one cares and they obviously retaliate when people say the slightest thing. I had been noticing that my neighbors' lids to their boxes are closed and mine is left wide open every time. Maybe I should get a cop to stand outside my door. It is mail after all that is at stake. These people all need to be fired. I'm happy that they're hiring third parties now. I was all for the post office remaining part of the government and people not losing their jobs b/c I feel that privatizing everything is wrong. Nope. I was wrong. Good luck in the unemployment line. This post office is the central mail processing facility for Washington, DC. It's mail slots and p.o. boxes in the lobby are accessible 24-hours everyday. However, do not come to this post office off-hours looking to mail something WITHOUT A STAMP. You cannot purchase stamps from a machine at this post office. That's right. Let me repeat. You cannot purchase stamps from a machine at this post office. This is a new concept of post offices for me. Bring Your Own Stamps. BYOS! Granted, this post office is not in the best of neighborhoods. And the lobby, p.o. boxes, and any former stamp vending machines with stamps, coins, bills, and I guess credit card numbers inside, were there like a sitting duck, just waiting for thieves to break through and steal. But geez louise, you would think they would post a huge sign outside saying: "NO STAMPS FOR SALE ON WEEKENDS. NOT EVEN FROM A VENDING MACHINE." You have to go to the "Lowest Price" gas station across the street to purchase a booklet of stamps. Or if that is too sketchy for you, you can always go a few blocks farther away to the "Giant" and purchase a booklet of stamps. There, you might witness an arrest, like I did. Why am I giving this "bring your own stamp" post office even 3 stars? Because on the occasions I've been here and the counters were open and the staff was in place, the service has been swift, courteous, and thorough. Because once you actually get a stamp on your piece of mail and mail it from this central mail facility, it gets to its destination FAST! (Case in point, I mailed that letter on Sunday at about 5pm and the recipient called me Monday night to say she'd received it. Wow.) Because once, in the days before you could hold mail on the usps website, I knocked on the door on a Sunday (because I heard Mail People working in the back). I asked the mail person for one of those yellow "authorization to hold mail" postcards. And without opening the door, this mystery mail individual slid the postcard out to me between a crack in the doorway. Wow. And finally, I cannot give this post office less than three stars simply because two postal workers ultimately lost their lives as a result of mail at this facility. Yes, folks, this is the Anthrax Post Office, dedicated to Postal Workers Morris and Curseen. Today, Saturday, September 8 2018, I attempted to apply for my passport at this location as a walk in customer. It was 1pm exact when I arrived, and the man sitting at the front desk did not approach my sister or I. So I asked him approximately about how long the wait time would be, he shrugged. I saw that there was a long list of people ahead of me when I signed in. So then I asked him if I was going to be attended after the only people at the waiting room. Again, he just shrugged. Then I asked him again if he knew about how long it would be. He asked me if I had to be somewhere and I said yes. He asked me where, so I said at work. And he asked me where did I work, and I told him where. Then he asked me what do I do. I did not answer that question, because I did not feel comfortable, especially with the way he was starting at me, as he licked his lips. So I asked him one last time, how long did I have to wait, and he asked for my application. At that point, I felt very uncomfortable and I did not want to give him my application, because he never answered my one question, "how long is the wait time?". After I refused to give him my application, he told me to get out of there, and he said "I have my passport." I got furious at that point, and yelled at him, asking him why he couldn't answer my question. He then raised his voice as well and said "GET OUT OF HERE YOU STUPID BITCHES!" To my sister and I. I never write reviews. And I mean never. But the utter lack of service and disregard by this office has compelled me to do so. I've been trying to get in contact with this office all day. This has been my experience (1) Phone rings 4 times then goes to automatic recording (which leads me to believe that the employees have decided to completely disregard answering the phone. Really? Who does that? Is this not a functioning business where people need to get work done) (2) A voice message starts explaining that, because the office is sooooo busy, they can not get to the phone but rest assured that if you leave a message they will get back to you (OK cool, right?) The service dude was 'cool'. He let me use his tape because i told him its my first time, just moved here from california. "its all good, ill help u out this time". I used his tape, 5 long pieces wrapping my tiny, iPhone box each one time around. I returned it to him and he said ohh dude thats "overkill" im gonna charge you for the whole roll. o. Okay... theres plenty left but whatever, its $3 bucks not gonna make a scene over tape... I hand him my $10bill and he gives me my receipt and starts helping someone else. I kindly spoke up.. "hey, wheres my change I gave you a 10$" He takes my receipt, gives me my change and this time forgets to give me my receipt back. He tried to short change me.. wow.. On a sidenote: When I was waiting in line, some random, super sketchy dude literally walked behind the USPS service counter. Like he was literally next to the service clerk, cracked out, drunk or something while the lady service clerk was super freaked out asking for his id/credentials. The sketchy man couldn't even speak a full sentence he was on drugs, bum appearance and we're all in line like shocked that something was about to go down.. he was able to get inside. When trying to get my kids passports I found that all my local post offices had weeks of waiting to get an appointment. I picked Benjamin Franklin Post Office in DC since it offers walkins and went... only to learn the passport lady was out for the day. Ben Franklin sent me over to Brentwood while my husband called ahead to ensure someone was there and see if they'd be closing for lunch. She said she'd go to lunch when the line was short and maybe someone else would fill in while she left. It turned out pretty nicely. After paying for a parking garage for no reason at Ben Frank, Brentwood had a free lot. Then the staff was clear in telling me where to go to sign in and wait and got me making some photocopies with their 20 cent machine while I was in line. They kept me busy moving from one waiting area to an office to a line back to the office, but otherwise it was pretty painless and didn't take more than 40 minutes. I did overhear someone having a very hard time tracking down a package at the next desk... I am glad I was just doing the passport thing! read more

Honestly speaking, this is the worst customer service experience I've ever had hands down. I ordered an item off eBay for my birthday worth 600$. Apparently the package was stolen at the post office station. It's been six day since anyone has contacted me after filling an complaint. I waited to talk to a customer service agent for an hour and 20 mins only to be hung up on, no attempt to be contacted back. The next day I was told by the morning manager at station 2 " that she had 400 other packages to worry about and that my package was of no concern. Even though the package never made it from the station to my home. I am utterly disgusted and appalled by the lack of professionalism the employees at station 2 at Brentwood possesses. I took screenshots of the inaccuracies in the tracking info provided on their website as well as eBay website. I no longer feel safe ordering things online in fear that my packages are being tampered with at the post office. I was informed by the mail carrier for my block that package was redirected to another station. After inquiring about the where about of that station. Should be no stars. I have been trying to get a package re-delivered for 5 weeks. I got a notice and called for re-delivery (the package needed a signature, so I had to set up the re-delivery for days I was home from work)back in August. The re-delivery date came and went. I stayed home all day on a Saturday for nothing. Called the next Monday to find out where my package was. No one knew. To make a lonnnnnng story short, I now have 5 case numbers, 3 re-delivery promises that were never made good, several phone messages to DC Consumer Affairs (who also have never called me back), and one suggestion from a US Postal Service supervisor to "call my Congressman" for help with my package. Oh, and today, I found out they just sent my package back without even a second notice. They just knocked Comcast off for absolute worst service. read more

Im so sorry that this Brentwood N.E. station is my neighborhood station! This place is the worst for picking up mail when its left here at this station! I have had the letter carrier mark my package delivered, only to not deliever it and return it back to this station, only fornthe station not be able to locate the parcel!!! When given the supervisors number , she just asked for my phone number but never replied back regarding my parcel! Zero stars. They don't pick up the phone no matter how many times you call the multiple numbers they have. They have taken 21 days and still haven't fully processed my change of address. They completely lost a priority mail, one week later, there is an official investigation still open to find it. They don't email back my new local usps either. read more

Oh wow. I seemed to have had a similar experience as the below reviewers. I had been waiting for a package when it finally occurred to me well past the usual mail time that i had never received it. I contacted the sender and was told, per the tracking information, delivery was attempted a couple weeks prior. However, a pink notification slip was never received. I called the 900 Brentwood Post Office to be told my package was still available. I asked if I could swing by to pick it up on a specific day, to which I was informed they will tape a note to it saying I will be there to retrieve it. Once I arrived, I was told the package couldn't be found and must be out with the delivery man. Again, I never received a pink slip saying it was attempted delivery. To top it off, between my neighbors and our house, we have had had multiple packages stolen, to the point we can't really have bulk items sent to our address. Hmmm..... read more

0 stars. This has got to be the worst Post Office in America. Hands down. Mail Delivery: 1. Closing the mailbox after opening it should be second nature. If its raining, forget about it; all your mail is soaked. 2. That is if you even receive mail in your box and not your neighbors box or someone else's on the same block. We're going around playing mailman delivering each other's mail to one another. 3. Don't expect certified letters or anything else marked priority because you won't get it. I was to receive a certified letter (which I was unaware it was coming certified) and by the time they left the pink slips saying they attempted delivery, they had already sent it back to the sender. Now mind you, they left all 3 pink slips at once to cover their butt. Had the sender re-send it and they just didn't even leave anything, just sent it straight back. I spoke to the office manager and she said I need to let them know when someone is sending certified mail so she can inform the driver..... Delivery 1. If it's priority or express, go ahead and get that extra fee back you had to pay. You will not be getting that package 1-3 days like you paid for. 2. They mark packages as delivered but don't deliver them for another 1-2 days. 3. I sat outside ALL day in the summer waiting to see if they actually made an attempt to deliver a package that was to come in by 8pm. At 9pm I checked the status and it said "attempted delivery, no one was home/no place to leave it". Remember, I sat outside ALL DAY. It's almost worth moving to a different neighborhood so they I can get my mail and packages. I stopped ordering anything online if they were going to use USPS. Shut this place down or fire and replace everyone! read more

Re the passports, it's impossible to call and get any information, so hopefully this will help someone. We got there at 2:10 PM and were out at 4:00. They let people sign in until 4:00. Only three people came after us. So we could have arrived at 3:55 and been out around 4:20. I can't vouch that it's like that every day, but there you have it. read more

My experience here is similar to ALL the reviews...unbelievable! Why is this continuing, is no one in charge that has any pride in their work, at the very least, not to mention respect for other people's possessions?? My daughter had a package arrive from overseas, I went there spent literally two hours waiting for the personnel to get it. However, they NEVER found it. Was told it would be redelivered, we never saw it, nor was it returned to 'sender's' destination. Now I have to go back to retrieve a small envelope/package, which when I went to pick it up, they COULD NOT FIND IT. That was sent back, now our friend re-mailed it and hopefully this weekend I will be able to retrieve it. I also have something to mention about the mail carrier's service...a part from the fact that someone is always home here, they never ring to have someone sign...immediately leave the dreaded 'beige' slip AND we always get mail for other addresses that aren't even close by...they just might begin with the same letter...for goodness sake, did these people not learn how to read, or is it truly careless workmanship? I hope someone from the administrator's office reads up on these reviews ... read more

I don't normally review post offices but holy fish what a mess. And it looks like my experience is pretty typical based on the Google reviews. I had a package "attempted delivery" - the mail carrier didn't even put the notice in my mailbox so I had to call 10 times to confirm that this is the post office where my package was before coming all the way out there. I made it to the post office 2 days later, and they told me my package had been delivered the day before. Obviously it hadn't, or I wouldn't have gone all the way there trying to pick it up. While I was there I had to interact with an employee who just kept yelling at everyone. When I told her I'd spoken to someone on the phone who confirmed this PO had the package, she yelled at me for not getting that employee's name. Then she yelled at all of us for being there after 5 even though all of us had arrived before 5 and were made to wait by the staff being slow. I checked the tracking later and it did say Delivered, but it also said the package was placed in my mailbox which, given that it was a box and my mailbox is just a slot, is impossible. I strongly suspect the package was stolen and, again, it seems like a lot of other reviewers had similar experiences. Luckily it was an Amazon order and they were willing to issue me a refund. I also notified USPS of the missing package and the rude employee but odds are slim anything will be done about either. read more

Horrible experience. Extremely rude, unprofessional, inefficient employees in the passport office. As many other reviewers state, no phones get answered, you catch major attitude from the miscreants working here, and they seem determined to intentionally waste your time and then complain that they wish it were "quittin' time". Avoid, avoid, avoid. They literally told us that they "are not equipped for infant/children passports" when, in fact, they are supposed to be. We got it done but it was a miserable 3-4 hrs. Inexcusable considering how few people were waiting for service. Yvette needs to be removed, or retrained if that's possible. read more

Had a great experience today renewing a passport. We arrived at 8:30 on a Saturday morning, and the security folks showed us to the (warm!) outer lobby -- where we waited for the facility to open at 9. We were third or fourth in line. We were out of there, with our business done, at 9:41. The passport staff folks were uniformly helpful, pleasant, organized, and efficient. read more

Actually, I can only give this post office one star, at least for the passport service, because it didn't even work at getting the passport. Weeks after going through the process here, we got a letter from the State Department Passport Service asking for more documentation. Apparently, the service at the Post Office didn't make proper copies and so we had to submit again. Strange. read more

The postal clerk who helped me prepare my mailing for my passport joked around and was also efficient at the same time, and the folks handling the passport office side of things were great as well. No need for an appointment to process an application, they take the passport photo there and extras if you need it for a visa or whatever. Great service with a smile, couldn't have been better. All told, it probably took 45 minutes or so with the photos and preparing the certified mail and paying for the expedited mail back of the passport to me. That's tough to beat if you ask me. read more

Been at my address for 32 years. Beginning Oct. 2012, USPS can't find address and is sending my mail back to senders as "Undeliverable" Package mailed from PA sent back to sender twice. Brentwood has no idea why. They are still trying to find it. Last week, package from Amazon tracking "attempted deliver" - I was home all day. This week tracking on another package "attempted delivery", Sat. Dec. 15. I was home all day - USPS never came. package now missing. Last week's missing package finally arrived, but had been opened by USPS and resealed. Tonight, received e-mail from Amazon stating they had received another package back as "undeliverable. The nightmare news - UPS and FEDEX are now in partnership with this loser!!! They deliver to DC USPS and USPS delivers to local addresses!!!!!!!! This is not so much a post office as a big game of freeze tag, where all the employees are frozen and you're 'IT'. Last time it took 15 minutes of buzzer ringing before someone showed up and then 15 more minutes of waiting for him to actually retrieve the package.
