I had scheduled my car to be shipped to Ft. Myers Fl. from Canton, Ma. on Sept 28th the same day hurricane Ian hit . I called and talked with Deb and Dale and they said no problem in switching shipping date to Friday November 4th. So I dropped car on the 4th , then flew down Sunday the 6th and they called me Monday morning the 7th and I had my car by noon that day and it was washed and very clean. I transport my car from MA to FL each year with Auto DriveAway in Canton MA. My problem with them is you never know when your car is going to arrive. They pick it up and it sits in there lot until they get a truck to load it for transport. Most recently when returning from Florida it was picked up on a Monday, got put on a truck on Thursday and will not get it delivered to me in MA for a week. This is the problem dealing with an auto transport broker. Next year I'm not going to use Auto DriveAway. I'm going to deal directly with an auto trucker who will deliver your car in three days. I wish I could leave a better review. Myra and Cindy have been very accommodating. I hired Auto Driveway to ship our 2002 Rav4 to San Diego. The car was serviced by my mechanic the day before I dropped it off. Considering it's an old car, it is still in good condition. Or rather, it was in good condition as it shipped out. It took about 10 days to cross the country. As expected. The truck driver was able to turn it on and drive it off the truck, but as soon as I pulled away, I noticed several things: - power steering barely worked, - AC did not work at all (it worked perfectly the week before), - electric windows did not work at all, - the odometer was dead - I could not tell the speed I was driving. Once I pulled it into our parking spot, one-tenth of a mile away, the car died. I also noticed that the front passenger seat had something sticky and orange spilled on it, and an empty water bottle - neither of those things were there when I dropped it off. I called AAA - they came out and said the battery was dead, and had to install a new battery for me ($116 + tax). The AAA guy alluded to the fact that it looked like the alternator needed to be replaced. I assured him it would be unlikely as it was replaced 5 years ago. Then, he said it looked like someone tried to back-jump the car, and recommended to take it to a mechanic right away. I called my Boston mechanic (who has serviced this car for 8 years and whom I explicitly trust). He said the alternator failure is very unlikely, and, if the AAA guy is correct, someone did try to back-jump it and probably blew the fuse for the alternator, and that was why my power steering, windows, AC, odometer, and probably a few other things did not work. I drove to a local mechanic in San Diego on the same day. Luckily, they were able to see me right away. The mechanic in SD confirmed that it was indeed the fuse for the alternator. He also confirmed that it must have been jump-started incorrectly for this to occur. Finally, I had my car back: power, windows, AC - it all worked as before! On the drive home, I noticed that the time in the car had been changed to Mountain Time (Colorado/Utah). I wondered why a truck driver would ever need to do that. So, I finally called Auto Driveway to hear their explanation. Instead, I got an earful - Chis became agitated with me right away, raised his voice, and started blaming me for accusing his truck drivers, blaming my mechanics for not doing their job right, and blaming my car because it's old, and it was probably going to die anyway. It still did not explain why the front seat was sticky, and why the time was switched. I simply let him vent for a minute, and figured it's not worth arguing after the fact. Needless to say, I would never recommend Auto Driveway again. If you are considering this company, I would not trust the truck drivers they hire. There is no question in my mind that they drove my car in between. One of them probably left a light on, drained the battery down, and someone else had to jump-start it, and blew the fuse. But the company did not want to admit it. I did not want my money back at all. Just called to let them know. Instead, they got very defensive. I must say they have reasonable rates (I guess you get what you pay for), and the female coworkers are very pleasant and helpful. read more
