I just visited Dr. Shim about an ongoing issue I have had with my hip and back. After having my…read moreprimary care physician help me finally define the issue I was having with symptoms, I was referred to Dr. Shim after an MRI. The radiologist assessed my MRI and said I did not have an issue with any discs, which was essentially the purpose of the MRI (to rule out a lower disc problem). The issue is likely my SI joint but Dr. Shim did not want to talk about my SI joint, despite the fact that my pain seems to be caused by a problem in that area. He just wanted to push epidural injections on me for a "small bulging disc" that he saw on my MRI that no one else saw then or for the 4 years that I've previously had this issue. He kept telling me about the pain in my lower leg which I did not have and how that was from my "bulging disc." The bottom line was he would not listen to me. Relied solely on his assistant's physical examination and something he saw on the film that no one else did. He kept trying to tell me that I was having pain in areas in which I wasn't having pain. Ridiculous. Just trying to get more people through an expensive injection procedure. He was fake and insincere. I would not visit him again.

Billing…read moreagent at the practice told me that she couldn't see where they had sent me any previous emails either. So I paid that bill with a different credit card than the one on file. I thought at that point it was over. Nope a few days later they charge me again on the previous credit card that I had used. Without authorization. The billing department has both people out now so I can't even talk to anyone about the issue. Now, while waiting for one of them to get back in the office... I just received another email saying my payment is due. Be very careful with billing this practice has issues with it.

I also had so many things going on that made my illness a bit complicated. Dr. Moreno immediately began with my back to rule out a fracture. He explained in detail what needed to be done and how he would proceed. He performed a Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (TLIF) and decompression. I left the surgical center the same day and was up and walking right away. I am no longer experiencing the back pain I had. I couldn't be more happier than I am now. I knew something was amiss…read more I was scheduled for an injection on Friday and was instructed to fast beforehand. On Thursday, I called the office twice to confirm the time of my Friday appointment and left messages. No one returned my calls. Friday morning, I called again twice and left another message. Still no response. On Monday, I called to find out what had happened. Again, no return call. By Tuesday, after multiple unanswered messages, I was understandably frustrated and left a strongly worded message. Ashley then told me that I had cancelled Friday's appointment--which I absolutely had not. I called back and spoke with another staff member, who told me, "Sorry, doc is on vacation." So, I'm left wondering what actually happened. Either my appointment was cancelled because Dr. Gerges was overbooked/unavailable, or someone in the office cancelled it for another reason. What I do know is that I did not cancel it. Mistakes and scheduling problems happen. What I find unacceptable is repeatedly calling an office about a scheduled medical procedure, receiving no return calls, and then being told that I was the one who cancelled the appointment. A simple phone call explaining that the appointment needed to be rescheduled would have avoided this entire situation.

My insurance company requested more documentation on several occasions, all of which were ignored. Insurance eventually declined coverage due to incomplete information. So far, 4 weeks have transpired since my office visit when the Dr requested I go get an MRI for a suspected torn meniscus. 4 weeks of pain all to find out they apparently don't plan to do anything. They won't return multiple calls and voice mails or multiple emails. No reply at all. I have switched doctors. There are just too many other very qualified and highly recommended Ortho Drs in this area......this guy and his office are a joke. Totally unprofessional and incompetent.
