I absolutely love love this place! I came to Florida to visit a good friend of mine and decided to give this place a try. Definitely did not disappoint. Environment is super clean and the servers were friendly. You could either pick up dishes from the conveyer belt (which prices are determined by the color of the plate - $1.75-$6.5) or order ramen, sushi rolls, bento boxes with the server. We were craving for sashimi and decided to go all out on my last day here in Fort Lauderdale. Ordered for uni, blue fin, red tuna, eel and many more I couldn't recall. Ushio has been amazing for me during covid. The fish is still fresh as before. My to go orders are always correct and they always take time and care with my orders unlike other japanese restaurants who rush you because they're closing for a siesta. Very fresh fish at a very reasonable price! There are a lot of Japanese places in South Florida, and a lot of them are okay, but this one is really good. So good that I had to go there two days in a row! On the first day, I had lunch and ordered a chirashi bowl for $15. The next day, I went back with my family for dinner and had a few different dishes, including the udon and a chef's special sashimi platter. Both days, the fish was exceptionally fresh. I noticed that they have different types of fresh fish depending on the day of the week, and the daily availability is posted at the door. Some of the ones I was able to get included blue fin tuna. There is also a rotating belt of small plates you can just grab as it passes you. We would also go there for dinner and get food that takes more preparation. The chef would come out to greet us and tell us about their daily specials, and we always trust the chef with our plates, so we just ask him to make whatever he recommends based on our craving that day, sometimes we would tell him our budget ...just in case. We have eaten here several times. The sushi is good. The service not so great. It seems like every time we've eaten here there is always something. There has been many occasions that we have gone with family of 4 and even family of 8 with 2 kids. My dad always gets the Katsu Chicken. No matter what there is always something with his order. Everyone else orders sushi. Food is never brought out together, the first rime everyone was served their sushi & when we said we were waiting for his chicken "oh yeah, we ran out". The 2nd time, again everyone ordered sushi and dad patiently waited for his food 20 mins. Everyone was almost done with their sushi before he got his food. When we went with a big group of family, again sushi was ordered, appetizers, 2 kids meals and a boat of sushi,everyone is almost done and my dad is still waiting for his food. My final straw before writing this review was we ordered 3 rolls, 2 rolls came out and we said we were waiting for another roll...30 mins later still no roll. Now upset I ask about the roll & the waitress says they are deep frying now. 15 mins pass still no sushi and now no waitress. Well, despite all the positive and great reviews left in here for this Sushi Restaurant I would have to say I disagree. First impression was not too bad. The sushi is placed on a conveyor belt type of system and the plates go around you lift the window up and grab your plate. We thought it was pretty neat and my husband thought it wouldn't be too bad because the plates were really icy cold, so we both figured it should be fresh. WRONG! We picked the most basic rolls because that's all that kept coming around I mean how hard can it be to make a California Roll and a Rainbow Roll... smh, the rice was kinda soggy along with the cucumbers in the roll. The Tuna on top of the rainbow roll didn't look very fresh it had a dry glare to it . I questioned it and that's when I don't even bother trying it, because if I have to question any kind of freshness with a sushi roll , I'll simply just pass. We ordered some ponzu and eel sauce and I swear it took the waitress forever to bring us sauces. When she finally did come to our table with the sauces I just asked for the check. .. 2 lemonades 1 rainbow roll & a California Roll .. $20 and we were gone. I've never eaten and paid so fast. For $10 you get a house salad or soup, and then 4 pieces of three different types of rolls. Having tried most of the local sushi joints I can attest to the fact that the assortment you get to choose from for lunch are actually exciting rolls that you will want to eat! We couldn't find the price on the menu, but my mother and I both agreed that we wouldn't have cringed if the lunch cost would have been $15! New manager is running our favorite spot into the ground! We ordered our usual rolls and we specifically asked for no wasabi, instead we got mounds of it and it rubbed all over our rolls. We ordered the fiesta roll and asked for no jalapeño and spicy habanero sauce and instead got tons of jalapeño chopped up and put in roll. I called to nicely let them know and the new manager was entirely rude. The owners are apparently "away for a while" and it shows. Their spicy tuna roll and godzilla roll (shrimp tempura) are my favorites. I also like to order their chicken teriyaki bento box at lunch time. This comes with chicken teriyaki, rice, soup or salad, gyoza, california roll, and vegetable tempura. It's a really good deal for a lot of tasty food. If you feel up to it, try their ramen! They opened last year in February, My partner found them in the Chinese newspaper so we decided to go check em out. 1st visit: we ate the sushi in the refrigerated conveyor belt, which is awesome because it show's the establishment cares for the well-being of it's patrons, that way raw food is not just sitting out and about. I took a bite and the rest was history. I have been going since, and every time I go I always get the Chef's special and u can request for just sushi or sashimi or both.
